Exporting Woes

hi...i've roundtripped STP & FCP with no problems (mostly)...a problem has arisen with an audio only project...AIFF files (from old recordings from the 30's)...they clean up pretty well and sound good in application...exported files sound like the originals...i've bounced to realtime, flattened, ect...
i'm unable to export File->Export->Compressor, Tracks and Mix as they are all greyed out...further, the "Save as..." drop down window has no render button...
i'm fortunate in that there is no deadline and i revisit these files and manuals from time to time trying to figure out what's going on...
anybody out there who knows what's going on before i try reinstall as a last resort...?

Hold off the disks; you can't export with compressor
from an aiff file, you have to use a multi-track for
that option.
What you can do is take you're finished audio and add
it as a track to a multi-track file by dragging it
into the timeline.
muZAK
thanks for getting back...what you suggest works...but it's another step or two...if i bring in non-aiff files, can i roundtrip...desktop->STP->desktop (burn folder)...?

  • Import export woes

    Hello,
I am having problems exporting and re-importing with a different application id in the online environment.
    I am getting:
ORA-20001: Errore GET_BLOCK. ORA-20001: Errore GET_STMT. ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small.
According to previous messages this error should be linked with character set but I exported and imported the file with Character set UTF-8 on the same machine, from the same client as DOS files.
When I ran the export script on my test box from SQLPlus, it went in without problems whatsoever, while I keep receiving the same error if I perform the import operation from HTMLDB import application page (on my box).
So, just to make a test, I imported the application script as a normal script and I received a different error altogether:
Error: ORA-20000: Unable to get the block of code: ORA-20000: Unable to get statement: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
ORA-12899: value too large for column "FLOWS_010500"."WWV_FLOW_SW_STATEMENTS"."TEXT" (actual: 412, maximum: 256)
This leads me to ask for some improvement in the user interface, like:
    1) create an optional region where dbms_output messages can be read from.
    2) spawn dbms_application_info lines in the export script so that a user can check what was the last operation performed.
    3) support the "PROMPT" sqlplus command in some way inside the SQL command processor when executing scripts.
    Additional question:
Is it possible to have a copy of the same application, that is working on top of the same schema, while having a different "skin", that is a different UI template?
This is what I was trying to test, but I was stopped by the import problem.
    Thanks and bye,
    Flavio

    Flavio,
You will need to set the character set portion of your NLS_LANG environment variable to match the character set of the exported file. Note that this has to be set prior to connecting via SQL*Plus.
The format of the NLS_LANG environment variable is language_territory.characterset. There is no locale-specific information in an application export file, so it is irrelevant what the language and territory settings are, as long as they are valid. But the characterset value is all important.
For example, if I exported an application from HTML DB and the file character set is "Unicode UTF-8", I would want to set my NLS_LANG environment variable to something like american_america.al32utf8. Likewise, if my file character set is "Western European ISO-8859-1", I would want to set my NLS_LANG environment variable to something like american_america.we8iso8859p1.
The character set portion of NLS_LANG must match your exported file character set, regardless of the character set of the database you are importing into.

  • More epub export woes

I've moved back to CS4 to create and export my ebooks, since CS5 has the [very annoying] bug of failing to properly export intra book document hyperlinks.  Unfortunately, though CS4 seems to make better interactive epub files, I'm running into some other problems.  First off, every time I export a book to Digital Editions, ID CS4 crashes, often reporting damaged files on a restart--some of them so damaged that I can't reopen them and have to recreate them from scratch. The crash appears to be happening as the epub export is completing because I usually find the epub file after the crash and it will open and all of it is there. This has happened with 3 ebooks in a row . . . every time I do a book export to Digital Editions, CS4 crashes.
Another strange thing I just ran across is the inaccurate export of typographical quote marks.  The weird thing about it is, that it can be correct in one book document and replaced by "Äô" in another book document in the same book.  I opened both docs, and they are using the same glyph and fonts, so I can't figure out why it's right in one place and wrong in another in the same ebook file.
Anyone have any ideas about either of these issues?  I have fully patched CS4 (and CS5--though that helps little with the unfixed hyperlink bug) on an Intel Mac running 10.5.8.
While I wait on any replies, I'm going to try the exports from my Windows 7 laptop to see if I have the same problems there.

That was the first thing I did but copying the text to note pad and stripping all styles got me right back where I started. The strange thing is the encoding can be fine in some chapters and displayed wrong in others. whether it's a single file separated by first levels or multiple files in a book file.
I've been told it's the reader's fault but that means ADE (and subsequent readers that use ADE would all see the bad encoding. In another forum I was told to add:
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> in the <head> of the document. I did, but it didn't change things.
One thing I noticed was when exporting you get varying results of the encoding if you sort by unordered and ordered lists as opposed to convert to text.
One will provide less encoding hassles. Anyway my only solution so far is manually editing the code to the html codes. Find and replace.

It might be a worthwhile project to export the epub and convert the epub to epub in Calibre and see if Calibre reincodes it correctly.

  • Tga export woes

Hello-- I posted this on the quicktime forum, but no one has replied.. I thought perhaps someone here might be of help?
    Hi everyone...
I am working on a project dealing with targa sequences.. I've been doing this for months. I open an image sequence, and then I export it out as DVCPRO50 progressive 16:9, best quality... 720x480.........
Suddenly today, out of no where.. anytime I try to export anything in quicktime I get "failed export process terminated unexpectedly (10)"
I tried this with previous tga sequences I successfully converted before. I tried converting to different formats like MP4.. I get the same error no matter what I do.
I have rebooted, flashed pram.. flashed nvram... repaired premissions... nothing has changed.. I don't get it, and I am sooooo annoyed.
if anyone can help, I will love you for ever.
    -patrick

Do you have FCP? if so import them there using a 1 frame duration for still images, then drag and drop them in order in a sequence to export as a QT movie.

  • Keynote export woes

    Hi,
I'm putting together a small (2min) presentation/promo which uses Keynote transitions and animations synced to music. When I playback from Keynote, the timings for all the elements are fine. However, when I export as a quicktime, all of the transitions/animations speed up and are then obviously out-of-sync with the music... Has anyone else had this problem and if so, have a work-around/fix? D

Okay, so my work around endedup hinging on this:
Do not rely on autoplay timing (meaning assigning intro & exits times to your actions/builds within each slide).
If I export as an .mov without doing "recorded timing" I got the problem with the video playing slightly faster than the audio (hugely frustrating).
If I recorded the presentation by just letting it play through my preset builds & transitions, then exported an .mov based on "recorded timing" it was interesting. The total run time was now correct, the slide transitions occurred at the correct time but each slide's individual events/builds played slightly sped up and then there were pauses where the the movie essentially let the audio catch up before the next slide. So overall the audio being out of sync wasn't as bad. It was obviously more noticeable the longer the slide was. Still not a usable end-product.
Finally, I went through and changed my assigned build/action times to on-click events rather than assigned delays. Then I "recorded" the presentation and manually queued each event in sync with the audio. Then I exported a .mov (again based on "recorded timing"). This exported the proper movie, with the entire run-time length, and individual events were kept in sync with the audio.
sigh... this whole export issue created a lot more work that it was supposed to be. hopefully this saves someone else some time!

  • Anamorphic export woes

I'm exporting my first anamorphic project.
Would someone be willing to walk me through the correct sequence and export settings?
I'm trying to export to Quicktime Conversion, h.264, size 480x270.  I have tried several sets of sequence settings, but they all come out horizontally stretched in export no matter what I do.  It's quite possible I didn't set up the sequence settings properly also.
The more I read about this, the bigger a headache I get - I know it will be necessary to go through this in more detail, which I will do next - but I need to get this file exported and would be grateful if someone would help me cut through the maze for now.
    Thanks in advance.

If it's letterboxed, it's not anamorphic.
Anamorphic means that the pixels are squished horizontally to fit widescreen content into a non-widescreen image format. Yours are not that. Your material is not squished, it's letterboxed.
I believe what you're trying to produce is a 16:9 aspect final output. The easiest way to do this is to export your timeline as a quicktime movie (not quicktime conversion), then load that quicktime movie into compressor, pick your preset - for instance H.264 800kbps - then go to the geometry pane and change the crop to a 16:9 cropping to remove the top and bottom black letterbox bars from your output. and set your sizing to an appropriate 16:9 size - say 640x360 etc...
That is if you're going to the web with this. If you're going to DVD and you want anamorphic, chose one of the DVD presets and alter your cropping as appropriate. Leave the sizing as 720x480, then when you load your clip into DVDSP, make sure you set the checkbox to let DVDSP know it's 16:9 material.

  • More Keynote Export woes

I just finished a Keynote presentation for my parent's 60th Anniversary. It looks great and runs great in Keynote '06. I try to export it to Quicktime, and it exports about half of it and then hangs up on a slide transition. I have tried everything! Can anyone help? Thanks

I've this same problem only when I try to export with no compression. Exporting using H.264 works fine, however, that's not what i need. Sooo... I thought maybe it was the codec. I went on the web and checked out other applications and came across SheerVideo. Looked awesome. I got the free trial download and exported my 17 second keynote file using the SheerVideo options (Y'CbCr 8bv 4:4:4,RGB 8b, Y'CbCr 8bw 4:2:2) and it won't even begin to export saying I've not enough disk space. I've 300 Gig free and ready to take that file on, so I don't get it.

  • Export woes

I am trying to export some short demos (1-5 minutes) and I am having the very devil of a time. My project is HDV, and I'm trying to use the quicktime converter to export a few small clips to put on the web. After half a dozen tries I finally managed to get a 1 minute clip to come out in 16:9 instead of 4:3, but the 5 minute clip has me completely stymied. I've tried nearly everything I can think of, and I can't for the life of me get it to work. What it does is almost immediately say it's 7% done, and then it slows waaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy down. I once let it run for two hours (this is a five minute clip) and it got 28% done before it crashed my machine and I had to run disk repair. What could I possibly be doing to cause this? There are no effects or rendering in this clip, it's just a collection of a dozen or so pieces of raw footage.

instead of trying to export and resize/recompress, have you tried simply exporting your 5 minute segment as a quicktime movie, then feed that movie into compressor to do your web compression?

  • Re: Trying to spilt up a imported movie to export to several disc.

Okay I've managed to import a old home movies into i Movie 6 and have a large movie 33gigs i've been able break down the film into smaller segments ( I thought) the last 3 clips are all the same size ( 5.33gigs) even though they are only 4 min in duration. I'm i missing something ?
I started importing several 10 min clips and spliting the clips and creating a new movie. All was well until i thought to import the last 30 min and then Split up the time line. into smaller clips. the new clips are still to large to copy to a dvd as a data file
    Thank you for any help

Splitting a clip into two parts does not split its source file. The source file — which iMovie creates when you import the video from the camera — always remains the same length, normally the length of the scene you shot.
When you split a clip in two, iMovie simply adjusts the two clips' pointers to the source file. The first clip might point to frame 1 of the file, for example, while the second clip might point to a frame somewhere in the middle of the file.
When iMovie displays the size of a clip, it shows you the size of its source file, not the size of the clip. So your 5.5GB file is probably about 25 minutes long.
There is no way to make a source file smaller; iMovie's non-destructive editing feature makes that impossible, for it always let us restore a clip to the original length. To do that, iMovie must preserve the file intact. That lets us recover a clip if we screw up.
One solution for the file-is-too-big-to-burn-a-DVD woes is to export each part of your split clip to its own Full Quality movie. Select the clip, then in the export dialog check the box "Share selected clips only". You can import that file back into the iMovie project if you like, or simply burn it to a DVD if that serves your purpose.
Note that iMovie 6 has a feature that lets us bypass this whole problem. Instead of importing very long scenes — i.e. with large files — use iMovie preferences to limit the length of a scenes to three minutes or the duration you prefer. The project has more clips, but each has its own (much smaller) file. That means you can discard those clips to recover that disk space, or burn them to a DVD.

  • Flash Crashes on Export Every Time

All of a sudden, today, I started having Flash crash on every

I have reinstalled Flash 8 trying to determine if it may be

Well, I'll be damned... I remembered one other thing that people had tried to remedy similar FCPX crash problems:
eject all peripherals (extra hard drives, etc...)
It's working right now. It did not crash on startup. I'll mess around with a project and see how it holds up.
    More later.

PS: in any case, the frustrations people are having with FCPX are quite unacceptable and Apple really should get their act together (from app store woes, to bugs in the program, to crashing, etc...)

Some software, web-browser, Flash Player etc. has reserved your FLV-file. It doesn´t have to be open, speacially if you use Windows. Many softwares reserve files while opening and doesn´t release them while closing... so you have to either reboot your computer or re-export your SWF with another name and target location.

    Boa tarde, Fernando,

  • LR 4 exports to wrong folder, anybody else?

HI, my rig includes Windows 7, Asus P8Z68 Deluxe Gen 3 with i7 2600K, 16GB DDR3 mem, SSD drives, fast Radeon video card.
I'm using Lightroom 4, just upgraded, have this problem:  when I export to Folder1> Subfolder 1, it puts the export images in the next up hierarchical folder, i.e. Folder1.  I select the folder I want in the Export dialog, and I don't have any subfolders selected or created, but it always sticks the shots in the next folder up the tree, it's happened every time I've exported.
    any clues?
    thanks
    Jim

The subfolder is the folder I selected in the dialogue.  c.frans w is right.  In 2.7 I never had to check and create a subfolder, which is what that box is for, unless I wanted to.  Usually I just select the folder I want, but in 4, when I do that, it jumps to the next higher folder.

  • Auto-generated links exported from InDesign do not work in tablet apps

Hyperlinks automatically detected and exported from InDesign CS6 8.0.1 as a PDF work fine on the desktop version of Acrobat Reader. However, on the iPad version of Adobe Reader as well as iBooks and GoodReader, these links are completely ignored, meaning they are just text.
On the other hand, if I was to manually set the hyperlink in InDesign or Acrobat, the link works fine.
It would be extremely tedious and time consuming to manually reset hundreds of hyperlinks in my documents since InDesign use to handle this correctly.
Is this a bug? If so, it's pretty serious and should be Adobe's priority to fix since millions of people read documents on tablet devices.

No, it's a Feature of Acrobat and reader that they attempt to create links from anything that "looks like" a URL. Other readers lack the feature.
It's not good practice to depend on this in any case as it's hardly foolproof even in Acrobat. Links that break across lines, for example, will not be properly recognized.
