External drive refuses to work and the other is very slow
I was not sure if I should put this in Lion or macbook pro section since thats what I am trying on (mid 2010) version.

it makes no sounds or noises on my mac but when I plug it into my windows machine it does make a noise but then there is nothing in my computer and it will not recognise the device at all

warranty is valid but I really hope I can save the files
I am getting a message from my macbook pro saying that its disconnecting it due to too much power or not enough, why would it say this and how can I re enable the drive?
Also I have a second DW or is it WD I forget but it works but its just runing 10 times slower then normal and I cant figure out why as I never touched them they just one day started acting this way after I had my macs scren replaced one of the ports is 3.0..
do you think the guy could of swapped out the usb t a 2.0 one? but then why would my mac keep telling me that its ejecting the drive
Have you tried updating your software? The issue with the keys will either be a software issue or an issue with your hardware, if you're on the newest software try re-installing it. It's very simple to do using the desktop software, if this does not work it seems to be a hardware issue, meaning repair or replacement is needed.
Also, updating/re-installing your software should also resolve any slow/freezing issues and hopefully stop your dialling problem.
Hope this helps

Letter "E" will not work and the phone is very slow.
HI Everyone,
I would greatly appreciate the help of anyone who can help me solve my issse with my phone. i have a blackberry 8520 which was working great until yesterday.
Now i cant do the following:
1. Press the lettee E as it does not work
2. The ALT key when pressed does not work which means i cannot use a comma, full stop etc..
3. The phone seems to have a life of its own where it automatically speed dials the no 2 (letter E key) wheneever i just scroll my finger on top of it.
4. It also is quite slow and keep coming up with the jar telling me to wait. This is not soo much an issue, but just means i have to wait for the processor (in the phone if any) to get its act together.
i would really appreciate any insights you may have available.
thanks, Niraj.Have you tried updating your software? The issue with the keys will either be a software issue or an issue with your hardware, if you're on the newest software try re-installing it. Why is one of my earphones working and the other is not?
why is on of my earphones working and the other is not?
Either it isn't plugged in all the way, the headphones are defective, or the headphone jack on your Touch is broken.

I work with photoshop CS5 and the stamp is very slow. Why?
I work with photoshop CS5 and the stamp is verry slow. Why?
If you can afford it, go with a Crucial M4 SSD.
If your in a limited budget, go with a Seagate Momentus XT 750GB.
The SSD will be the fastest one and the Seagate being faster than a conventional drive.
If you decide to go conventional, avoid the Western Digital Scorpio Blue. They tend to have issues with Macbooks.

I want to put my itunes library on my time capsule as external storage to free up space on my computer. How do i partition or create a disk image or do whatever it is i need to do so that my itunes library runs directly off my time capsule and is separate from the time machine backup?
Not sure what the guys were smoking in the Apple store but you have never been able to partition a TC.
See Pondini for doing disk images.
Q3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html
Note very carefully.. if you move your itunes library to the TC.. apple have specific instructions for moving libraries.. you must follow it precisely...
The TC has no way to back itself up.. and TM cannot backup a network drive.
Any corruption of the drive will cause you to lose your itunes library.. please do not ignore this. I have fixed a fair number of TC for people who lost their 200GB plus itunes library.. you should see the sweat pour off their faces. -
Can I use an external drive for Time Machine and storing other data?
At the moment I have one external drive, a 500gb LaCie. My internal drive is 160gb. I don't think I'll be using all 500 of those gigabytes for a while, so I want to put them to good use. Can I make a partition on this drive and use that for Time Machine, leaving the rest of the drive for my documents and other files? If so, how would I partition the drive? I'm not fluent in Disk Utility and even though I'm pretty sure I know how to do it, I don't want to screw up. Also, how big a partition would you recommend?
While we're here, I have a second question, somewhat relevant to the first. Could I move my Time Machine backups to a second drive if I wanted to? Also, if I used a big drive (say 1tb) could I use Time Machine to backup my current LaCie to a partition on that drive? Thanks in advance.videoCWK wrote:
Does that also mean that I could back them both up on a very big drive?
Yes. Time Machine will, by default, back up all of your external drives unless you specifically exclude them.
Also, will Time Machine backups eat all my space after a lot of usage?
It depends on what you do on your Mac. If you work often with very large files (video editing, heavy photo editing, big disk images, Microsoft Entourage data file, Parallels disk image file, etc) then your backup drive could fill up very quickly.
I use my Mac mostly for e-mail, web browsing, iTunes, iPhoto, and the occasional iMovie project. I have 92 GB on my main hard drive (60 GB of which are my iTunes and iPhoto libraries, and one iMovie project.) My Time Machine backups consume 155GB on my backup drive, and that's after using Time Machine for a full year. -
Can someone explain why one code works and the other one doesn't?
Hi,
I have been doing a little work with XML today and I wrote the following code which did not function properly. In short, it was as if there were elements in the NodeList that disappeared after the initial call to NodeList.getElementsByTagName("span"); The code completely drops through the for loop when I make a call to getTextContent, even though it is not a controlling variable and it does not throw an exception! I'm befuddled. The second portion of code works. For what it is worth, tidy is the HTML cleaner that's been ported to java (JTidy) and parseDOM(InputStream, OutputStream) is supposed to return a Document, which it does! So why I have to call a DocumentBuilderFactory and then get a DocumentBuilder is beyond me. If I don't call Node.getTextContent() the list is processed properly and calls to toString() indicate that the class nodes are in the list! Any help would be appreciated!

}Thank you Dr but the following is true:
I placed this code in the for loop before I posted the question :
for (int i = 0; i < numSpanTags; i++) { // Loop falls through here!
System.out.println("Span tag (" + i + ") = " + spanTags.item(i));
}And I receive 29 (The correct number) of non-null references to objects (Node objects) in the NodeList.
When I replace the exact same for loop with this code :
for (int i = 0; i < numSpanTags; i++) { // Loop falls through here!
System.out.println("Span tag (" + i + ") = " + spanTags.item(i).getTextContent());
}Nothing prints. This discussion has never been about "clever means to suppress exceptions" it has been precisely about why a loop that has the
exact same references, exact same indices prints one time and doesn't print the other and does not throw an exception. If you can answer
that question then I am interested. I am not interested in pursuing avenues that are incorrect, not understood and most importantly shot from the hip without much thought. -
Hi there, since I installed Mavericks, when I am having a video conference with Facetime, and I maximize its window, the other person stops seeing me (my camera turns off.
Is this a bug? or do we have any solution to this annoying issue?
Thanks!Hi cpfrances,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. This article has some steps you can take to isolate and troubleshoot the issue with your built-in iSight camera:
How to Troubleshoot iSight
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2090
Important: Follow these instructions in order. Test the camera between steps to see if the issue is resolved.
Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
Cheers,

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Unsync all music and resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup. See:
iOS: How to back up
- Restore to factory settings/new iOS device. -

Not sure what the problem is here, although it looks like you have different Mac builds and maybe different OS's, Leopard on your old Mac and Snow Leopard on the new one. I don't know if that is why the files won't open or if there is some other problem.
Here is a link that might be helpful:
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=0
One thing you could do is to make a clone of your old Mac's hard drive using Super Duper or Carbon Copy Cloner on an external drive:
http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
You could mount both the old Mac's drive and the external drive on your new Mac and use Super Duper to make the clone of the the old Mac's drive onto the external. I have done this myself so I know it works. That would at least put the files on the external drive so you could send off your old Mac.
I don't have an iTunes store account, so wouldn't know how to authorize or deauthorize that. However, I would think the Apple Store could help you with that.
Good luck! -
My iMac keeps on diconnecting from my network and The internet is very slow on it too.
Hi
My iMac has been acting wierd for the past month. It has been disconnecting from the internet/network and also it has a very slow speed when using Safari or any other internet application (eg. Skype). Im not sure why this is happening. My iMac has Windows installed (100GB partioned) and yet the internet is fast on it than the Mac side. On other computers and mobiles the internet is very fast, and does not disconnect. I scanned my computer and it came up with nothing.
Please Someone Help...If you connect to your router with with Wi-Fi, please try connecting with an Ethernet cable. Turn Wi-Fi off and test. Any difference?

Why does one CSS min-width work and the other does not?
In order to deal with different browser/screen widths, I put a min-width on both the light-colored box that contains the images and article text on my Web pages and also on the text itself. When I test this in Firefox, IE8 and Chrome, only the container box shrinks. The article text area width does not narrow when I shrink the browser window. Any tips?
