External monitor not working - software upgrade

Use an external LG monitor with my Macbook at work - has worked like a charm. There was an Apple software upgrade this weekend - today, when I came back to work, I can't get my external monitor to work. The Mac doesn't see that it's there and the monitor's stuck in Power Save Mode.
Thoughts?

I have reset the PRAM and confirmed that the monitor and cable are functioning properly, but still no change.

  • External Monitor Not Working After Upgrade

    Hello friends.
I upgraded computer and software (Production Premium CS5.5). I use an external deck that is connected through Firewire. Premiere Pro sees the deck but does not output the image/video to it. I even managed to capture from the deck into Premiere without a problem. No matter what I've tried Premiere won't export to the NTSC monitor. It did in Production Studio Premium. With the Premiere software I had before it would export any SD NTSC image or video. I produce a weekly television show and my external NTSC monitor is a must for color calibration. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • External monitor not working after ML upgrade

I have a late 2008 Unibody Macbook and normally use it in clamshell mode with a Samsung 2043NW monitor if I'm in the office. Previously working fine in 10.5.8 through mini display port adapter. Upgraded via fresh install of 10.6.8 to ML, and the monitor flickered on occasionally but otherwise would not work - when it did display it showed the same resolution as the macbook screen i.e. 1280 X 800 instead of 1680 X 1050.
There's a thread here related to this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2387462?start=15&tstart=0  but this software was not the answer. I can now view the screen, but it is still being sent a resolution of 1280X800, rather than 1680X1050 (i.e. a fuzzy mess). It also will not work in clamshell mode at all, and just goes to sleep when the case is shut.
Anyone have a solution for this, or have I been 'obsolesced'? Does anyone have a unibody Macbook that DOES work with an external monitor?

OK, now here's an interesting thing - the macbook has begun to work in clamshell mode. This is REALLY weird. Tried again this morning in the hope of getting back the monitor control icon in the toolbar and it booted straight into clamshell mode with the lid shut.
When I first had this running 10.5 it would only work in clamshell mode if you pressed the power button and immediately closed the lid before the screen lit up grey. More recently it has been perfectly happy to enter clamshell mode after a period of use normally, just plugging in the monitor and shutting the lid. It would be nice if this behaviour were to start again soon.

  • External Monitor Not Working after Mavericks upgrade

I just upgraded to Mavericks and my USB external monitor & VGA external monitor is not being recognized.

I just upgraded to Mac 10.9.
My Sony KLV-32S300A LCD HDMI TV is no longer recognized as external display (neither in mirror nor in 2nd window mode).
External display used to work flawlessly under Mac 10.8.5.
My hardware: MacBook 13-inch, aluminum, late 2008.
So far I have found no workarounds.

  • IMac external monitor not working after lion upgrade

    Hi,
I have had an external monitor hooked up to my 09' imac for over a year now. I upgraded to Lion and ever since then it hasnt worked but one other random time when I moved and hooked everything back up. Im very tech savy, but this just doesnt make sense. Have combed google to find a solution. I have a Samsung 22in moniter and all the blue power button does is blinks at me. I am using a miniDisplay to DVI connection.
Does anyone have any suggestions other than resetting the ram?

I guess it's possible you've got some kind of hardware problem.... but not likley given it started with you installed your OS.
Here's a few things to try:
    1. see if you can borrow another monitor just to be sure your monitor isn't the problem.
    2. in System Prefs, and the Displays pane, click on the Detect Displays, then then the Gather Displays. If you get two diffenet display panes, that would lead me to think it's a monitor problem.
    3. Lastly, disconnect your 2nd display, and restart. Then Shutdown, reconnect it, and see if that helps.
    and of course..
    4. make sure that all of your connections and adaptors are tight.

  • MBP i7 15" - External Monitors not working

    Hi All,
Ive been using HDTVs over HDMI and Dell Monitors over DVI fine for the last 2 months, but as of a few weeks ago. I cant get any output at all on either connection!
When I plug in my Miniport adapter, the MBP screen blinks blue (as it usually did, when about to change display settings) but then nothing happens. No external monitor output at all, in any shape or form!
Similarly, when I plug the HDMI/DVI into the TV, it auto-detects that something has been plugged in and begins trying to auto-detect a signal but to no avail (mean while the macbook screen flicks to blue as described above).
I refuse to believe that my adapter is knackered, as when plugging and unplugging, both TV and MBP show signs that its trying to connect.
I've rebooted, and done the SMC reboot, and even uninstalled gfxCardStatus in case that was affecting it, but no Joy.
I have upgraded to 10.6.5 but I cant be sure when this actually occurred, and as to whether or not this caused the problem.
    Any help would be lovely.
    Kind Regards
    Oli

    I'm struggling with a very similar problem. (Thinkpad W540, K2100, Ultradock 170W)
I am using 2 external monitors right now in bios display standard mode - it's the only way they work at all for me right now. I have tried uninstalling graphics drivers, enabling advanced mode, and restarting, but none of the external displays are detected. I've also tried updating the dock's firmware, but it doesn't seem to be updating (this may have already been updated).
    Current working setup:
    - 2 x 22" external LCDs connected to Ultradock via DP -> DVI cables
    - Laptop integrated LCD
Related but not quite as equally frustrating, the integrated LCD does not resume when waking the computer from a sleep state. Only a reboot brings the display back.
I'd like to connect another 24" display over HDMI, but don't have any confidence of it working since advanced mode is utterly worthless for me at the moment. I'm quite dissatisfied especially since I purchased an extended warranty and last time I called for support Lenovo tried to sell me an additional support plan claiming that software was not covered under my current warranty.

  • Ultra dock + three external monitors not working

    Hardware:
    W540 + Ultra Dock (170W)
    2x 24" LCDs @ 1920X1200 (DVI only)
    1x 30" LCD @ 2560x1600 (DVI only)
1x Display Port to DVI Active Converter (for the 30" LCD)
What I want to have is four displays: W540 LCD + 3 external monitors as described above. However, I can only get two of the external displays to turn on regardless of how many chickens I sacrifice. Note: I've searched extensively to see if others have had this problem, which they obviously have, but none of the solutions worked.
I think the issue is the 'advanced' mode, but I already turned it on in the BIOS. The laptop LCD works correctly (2880x1620), the 30" LCD works correctly with the display port to DVI active adapter (2560x1600), and one of the 24" LCDs works correctly (1920x1200). However, the other 24" LCD isn't available in Windows as a detected display unless I start swapping cables, which will then enable it while disabling the other 24" LCD.
For reference, the connections are as follows:
    Laptop LCD (built-in)
30" LCD: DisplayPort to DVI (active); Ultra Dock DisplayPort 0
24" LCD number 1: DisplayPort to DVI cable (passive); Ultra Dock DisplayPort 1
24" LCD number 2: DVI to DVI; Ultra Dock DVI Port 0
It's my understanding that the K1100M discrete graphics card should be driving all three of the external displays, but that isn't the case right now. I see one 24" and the 30" displays in the Nvidia Control Panel and I see all three working monitors (including the laptop LCD) in botht he Nvidia Control Panel and the Windows Display area.
    Things I've tried:
Uninstalled + reinstalled Nvidia Quadro drivers
Uninstalled + reinstalled Intel 4600 drivers
    Enabled Advanced mode in BIOS
    Restarted 5,000 times
Swapped cables until my fingers started to bleed
Updated the firmware of the Ultra Dock (it was already fully updated)
According to this page, I should be able to connect six displays including the built-in LCD. When I first looked at it, I thought I could use both Ultra Dock DisplayPort ports as well as the Ultra Dock DVI port, but it's very unclear if that's actually the case. What does it mean by DP or HDMI and DP or DVI? Does that mean I can use both DisplayPorts (which I'm currently doing and it works) only? Does it mean I can use both DisplayPorts as well as HDMI and DVI? Does it mean if I want to use HDMI and DVI that I can't use either DisplayPort? Does it mean DVI and HDMI both share an output with one of the DisplayPorts so only one of each can be used at a time? TERRIBLE DOCUMENTATION.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this has been extremely frustrating. I have a feeing the solution is going to be a disappointment as well because it's probably going to involve buying yet another adapter and/or using the Mini-DP output on the laptop instead of, you know, actually being able to use the expensive Ultra Dock...
    [rant]
I have no idea how to tell if everything is working because the graphics card situation is extremely confusing. I didn't realize when I bought the laptop that the discrete card couldn't drive the laptop's built-in LCD, which is very annoying. Or, maybe that's not true, but the documentation is so confusing that I can't be sure either way. Also, and this really pissed me off, the Ultra Dock DVI connector can't drive a dual link display. What the hell??? Why was this not clearly annotated somewhere? I really hated needing to purchase a DisplayPort to DVI active adapter to make my brand new laptop dock work as advertised. UGH.

  • External monitor not recognized after upgrading to win 10

After upgrading to Windows 10, my external Samsung monitor isn't recognized.  Not sure if I need new drivers from HP or Samsung (they say they don't have anything for me, of course).

Hello I managed to solve my problem of brightness key not working by Installing the Intel HD Graphic 3000 Driver from Intel official site. • External Monitor Not Working With Macbook Pro

My computer was working fine with an external monitor, then my computer froze, and I had to hold down the power button. When I turned it back on, my computer would not work with an external monitor. I've tried different cables, so it's not the cable. The monitor is being detected by the computer, but nothing is showen on the external monitor. When connecting the monitor to the computer, the computer's screen goes blue, then turns back to normal. I
I cannot reset the SMC by removing the battery, I do not have the confidence to remove my battery, and do not have the time to send the computer to someone else to do it.
I also tried updating my OS from 10.7.4 (Might've been 10.7.3) to 10.7.5.
My computer is a MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2010), running OS X 10.7.5 Lion.
I need to get this problem fixed ASAP, any help is appreciated.

I forgot to mention, I'm connecting the monitor via MiniDisplay -> HDMI. I've also tried USB -> HDMI and USB -> DVI -> HDMI but none of them seem to work.

  • External monitor not working after installing latest NVIDA drivers

I have a mid-2010 MacBook Pro. I installed bootcamp and Windows 7 x64. I performed all the Windows updates then installed the Apple Bootcamp driver CD. Everything was working fine and I was able to connect an external LCD monitor using a mini display port to HDMI cable (the LCD only has HDMI ins).
I then came across a piece of Windows software that requires the latest production NVIDIA drivers so I went to the NVIDIA web site and downloaded their installer for the GT330M which is the chipset in this MacBook Pro.
The NVIDIA installers ran fine and installed version 275.33 of their drivers, however, when I hook up the external display the primary display goes black and the external monitor simply cycles through all the inputs like it can't find a signal. When I unplug the mini display adapter from the MBP the MBP screen returns to normal.
    Thoughts?
    TIA,
    -Noah
PS. Windows 7 *****. Took over 3 hours to install and apply all the Windows updates with countless reboots. Lion took under 20 minutes to fresh install.

Well low and behold I tried clearing PRAM again and I reset my monitor to factory defaults. Reconnected my monitor and the thing works now. Very strange but I'm Happy that it's working again. *WHEW*

  • External Monitor Not Working after 10.9.3

I have two Macs which are not working with an external monitor anymore through the thunerbolt port. I have tried different types of connections (HDMI and DVI) and two different external monitors in an attempt to determine the issue. The only common denominator to the issue is the update to 10.9.3 OS X. I have also reset PRAM and changed between mirroring and non mirroring to no avail.
    Mac #1:
    MacBook Pro8,1
    Intel Core i5
    2.4ghz
    Intel HD Graphics 3000 512MG
    External Monitor: Resolution 1920X1080 @60hz
    32 Bit Color (ARGB8888)
    Main Display: Yes
    Mirror: Off
    Online: Yes
    Rotatino: Supported
    Mac#2:
    MacBookAir6,2
    Intel Core i5
    1.3ghz
    Intel HD Graphics 5000
External Monitor: No information as it's not connected at this time.

  • 3 DVI monitor not working after upgrade

I have three monitors connected to my new Mac pro via Active Minidisplay port to DVI adapters. They are all Dell 24" (1 2407,and 2 2405) they worked fine on 10.9.2 but after the upgrade to 10.9.3 only two monitors will work now. Verfiied that I was following Apple's document on connecting the three monitors.  If I Disconnect one of the two working monitor the previous blank one would automatically go active.

This issue is caused by a bug in OS X 10.9.3. The following steps have been reported to resolve it in some cases (not all.) If none of them works for you, the only other option is to revert to 10.9.2, which can be done by restoring a pre-update backup. You may prefer to wait for Apple to release another update, but I don't know when that will happen.
    1. Reset the System Management Controller.
    2. Reset the PRAM.
    3. Install the Combo updater.

  • Toshiba Satellite A355D External Monitor not working

Well in a nut shell, My wife grabbed my laptop by the screen and shattered it. I am trying to use it with an external monitor. It was working a month ago and I haven't used it since. I am trying to use it again and the external monitor is not working.
Anything I can do? I cannot see the screen on the laptop itself.
I tried to boot it up and press the FN + F5 but it didnt work.

Please include your full model number when posting problems on the forums. It can be found on the bottom of your laptop. "A355D" is only partial.
Does the external respond at all? Does it seem to get anything from the laptop?
Does it still sound like the laptop is booting?

  • External monitor not working

    Hello all,
I have a PB G3 Series (Wallstreet), running OS 10.2.8. Having trouble running an external monitor. When I start up the computer, I get (on the external display) the Apple logo and the ticking dial for about 15 seconds, but everything after that is displayed on the PB display, and I can't find a way to switch the display in the Preferences.
I'm sure I'm overlooking something obvious, so be kind, please! Any ideas?
    Thank you!
    Brad

    Brad,
When you open up the System Preferences do you see a Displays pane?
I hooked an external monitor to my Wallstreet running 10.3.9. When I opened the Displays preference I had settings for simulcast (mirroring), external and the laptop display in the resolutions window. After unhooking the monitor the only settings that remained where 640x480, 800x600, and 1024x768 resolutions for the laptop.
Hope this is something new and not something you already know.

  • External Monitor Not Working (Can't Hear Vocals)

    Hi all.
I am about to tear my hair out with monitoring problems I have started experiencing with Adobe Audition.
I want to use the External Monitor feature to monitor my vocals whilst recording a track (Don't like the latency of Audtion monitor).  However the problem I am having is that I cannot hear my voice when recording.  The vocals record on the track just fine but I cannot hear it whilst recording.
I don't know whether it has anything to do with the fact I recently upgraded to Windows 7 (64bit).  I never had this problem before and it gave me no issues before.  It has rendered me useless as i am unable to get anything recorded.
My sound card is Audiophile 2496 and I record using SE2200a through a Xenyx 1204 Mixer
Does anyone know how to fix this so i can use external monitor once again
    Please someone help!

You need to set this up correctly in the 2496 control panel. On the Mixer tab make sure both 1/2 In and SW 1/2 rtn are faded up. Then on Output tab select Mixer as Output Source under the fader. You should then be able to hear both yourself incoming and playback from Audition.
