External speakers don't work with Yosemite

I have just upgraded my iMac to Yosemite and now my external speakers don't work.
They are there to be used under System Preferences -> Sound as "Bose USB Audio"
But when I select them I get no sound and "The selected device has no output controls"
I do get sound if I select the Built-in Internal Speakers
The Bose speakers worked fine under Mavericks.
Can anyone help me get them working again ?

Had similar issues with Bose Companion 5 after Yosemite installation. Tried most suggestions posted here without success.
But Birkers' post about plugging in/out analog headphones from Bose puck gave me an idea.
1. Removed Bose USB cable from iMac (Late 2014 Retina 5K / Yosemite 10.10)
     - confirm that Bose disappears from Sound panel in System Preferences
2. Played music through internal speakers - OK
3. Played music through 2nd Display speaker - OK
4. Re-connected Bose USB cable to a different USB port
     - confirm that Bose appears in Sound panel in System Preferences
5. - Bingo! Sound now playing trough Bose system

  • External speakers don't work with Maverick

My external speakers will not work in Maverick....internal speakers ok. Tried rebooting, unplugging external speakers from back of computer, etc.......going to "sound" in System Preferences, only "internal speakers" is listed. Had external sound PRIOR to Maverick.....

Boy, do I feel like an idiot !!!  I had the speakers plugged into the input RIGHT NEXT TO the headphone port !! I could have sworn that's where I unplugged them when I did some "housekeeping" on my desk ! I even labeled that port "speakers"............I must say though that the"output" in "sound" in sys. pref. NOW SHOWS UP AS HEADPHONES !! So SORRY for taking up your time, but you got my external speakers working, and for that I am VERY grateful !!  I guess in all your experiences you've seen it all, but................THANKS AGAIN !!!!

  • Old G4 Mac external speakers don't work with Mac Pro - Please Help

Does anybody know if there's an adapter, so I can use the old clear plastic orb speakers that used to work with the old G4s with my new Mac Pro? Thanks.

    Hi-
The Apple Pro speakers only work with a special jack available on some G4 towers and iMacs.

  • EXTERNAL SPEAKERS DON'T WORK

External speakers don't work. They are LABTEC LCS 2420 speakers. The internal speakers with RealTek driver works fine. I have an HP Pavilion 23 touchsmart All-In-One PC with windows 8. I plugged the speakers in the headphone port then tried the audio jack in the back with the same resullt. When I right click on the sound icon and click on playback devices and riight click  in the open area i checked  show disabled and disconnected devices only the speakers realtek icon appears. Do I need to download other drivers and how should I do this?

Try the following: Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Manage Audio Devices > in the 'Playback' tab you should see the ports (rear and headphone) > R-Click the one that you are using for your external speakers and make it the default device.
    Trust this helps.

  • My iPhone 4 speakers don't work with music it only works when I get calls

When I try to play music or videos my iPhone speakers don't work but when I get a phone call it works and I've tried everything to get them to work but no result yet. The first time it happened it was because there was lint in my speakers but I cleaned them out and now that its happened again I can't figure out what's wrong.

    OK, let's try a reset.
A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.
No content is affected by this procedure.

I have surround sound speakers and mine are working fine with iTunes 7. Now, I don't want to state the obvious, but my surround sound speakers have a bass box attached and the leads go into the back and sometimes they come loose. You've probably already checked this but I thought it worth a a mention.

  • Speakers don't work with Vis

I have a set of four/fi've including woofer 4. FPS 000 FourPoint Surround. Yes, I know that they are old (2002) but they work fine in with my previous system, XP. Purchased a new Dell with Vista and only two of the four work now. Dell says to toss them, they are outdated. Is there some kind of patch or something I can download as I hate to get rid of good speakers I have two plugs, a black/green. There are two ports on the back of the tower, black/green. Whichever is plugged into the green port, I have sound from those two speakers only, white noise from the plug plugged into the black. When I configured my speaker setup on this computer, I can hear all four they way that I should. Once I put in an audio/dvd, sound only from whichever two are plugged into the green port and white noise from that which is plugged into the black port.
Any thoughts would be most appreciated...

    Hey Adam,
Dell spent several hours, three differnt times in "Screen Sharing" trying to configure the speakers through the control panel In the control panel, they all work fine. As soon as you play an audio/dvd, it then goes to sound only at of the plug plugged into the green port and hissing (white noise) out of the plug plugged into the black port. Dell told me finally that my speakers are not compatible with Vista as I did not experience this problem when I had them hooked up to my previous system, XP. I am pretty sure my previous system had Sound Blaster card, my new Dell has what I told you, the "Integrated 7. Channel Audio."
What I don't understand though and Dell really could not answer this either is why when the speakers are plugged in, both plugs plugged, why is it that they work fine when configured in the control panel but then as soon as I insert an audio/dvd, it returns just to the two plugged into the green port

  • External speakers no longer work with airport ---- what gives please help

Itunes 8.2 no longer shows the drop down menu where I can choose 'computer' or 'external speakers'. I've used this feature for years, and now, it's gone. Where'd it go?
There is a green light on the Airport. The 'Look for remote speakers connect with AirTunes' is checked. The Imac is reading the wireless network. The external speakers are connected correctly.
Where the heck did it go....and more importantly, how do I get it back?

  • Speakers don't work with my mac mini...

So i just got a mac mini, and my speakers or headphones don't work when i plug them in. I used these speakers and headphones on my old mac so i know they are compatible. I have gone into the system preferences and clicked on the sound option and saw that the output volume was muted and would not let me unselect that. Also when i plug the speakers in it doesn't even show them registering on the output. How can i fix this so that i can use my speakers?

I realise this is pointing out the obvious but are you sure you plugged them into the headphone/speaker/line out port rather than the microphone/line in port?

  • External microphones don't work with audio input

Tell me its not true that an ordinary mic won't work with the audio input....I have 2 mics which I know to work mini jack [tried both stereo and mono] and zip! nothing....what is wrong with this equation
any ideas from the floor? [do I really have to go and buy another usb headset or an iMic to resolve this??
please tell me there's another option!
    thanks
    Tony

I have been unable to get the microphone input with a Viewsonic 22" monitor with webcam to work with either iChat or iVisit with my Mac Pro. There have been other reports on the web about newer versions of the OS 10 inactivating the audio input for several programs. Is this why the microphone does not work or is it true that the audio input does not act as one? If the audio input does not work with an external microphone, what is it for?

  • Speakers don't work with Itouch 4?

Just updated to the iOS 4 for the Itouch 4 and my speaker I got for christmas now longer works with it. A few days ago it was fine. any Suggestions?

Have you tried restarting the iPod? That is, powering off and then powering back up by holding the Sleep/Wake button and then following the prompt.
If that doesn't work, try a reset and if necessary, a restore.

  • RE: External speakers don't work while watching DVD on MacBook

Hello, I have a late 2006 white 13-inch MacBook. I have been trying to use an Altec Lansing external speaker while watching a DVD movie on my Mac, in order to increase and improve the sound, but when I plug the speaker cable into the headphones jack on my Mac, no sound comes out of the speaker. The speaker works fine when I plug it into the same jack to listen to music in my iTunes library, so I know the problem isn't with the speaker per se.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? I have tried to play around with the Sound on System Preferences and with the Audio MIDI setup but I'm not sure which setting is at fault. Thanks very much.

Hi, thanks for your response. When I got into Preferences>Disk Setup, under Audio Output, "System Sound Output" is selected (there are no other options listed). Also, "Disable Dolby dynamic range compression" is checked.
