Extproc causing Dr. Watson

Extproc.exe is causing a Dr. Watson error every time I attempt to access it. I have setup my tsnames.ora and listener.ora files exactly how the documentation has said.
I am running NT 4.0 server with SP6a. Oracle 8i 8.1.6. It is not specific to one particular machine either because I have tested it on 2 separate machines.
I have attempted to access the extproc_connection_data throught the test on the Net80 Assistant and by running sqlplus /@extproc_connection_data from the command prompt.
Here is a copy of my tsnames.ora and listener.ora files:
listener.ora:
LISTENER =
(DESCRIPTION_LIST =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = oradbms)(PORT = 1521))
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC0))
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
(SID_LIST =
(SID_DESC =
(PROGRAM = extproc)
(SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
(ORACLE_HOME = D:\Oracle\Ora81)
tsnames.ora:
EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
(DESCRIPTION =
(ADDRESS_LIST =
(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(Key = EXTPROC1))
(CONNECT_DATA =
(SID = PLSExtProc)
(PRESENTATION = R0)
Any help is greatly appreciated. This appears to be a bug in the extproc but in all of the discussions I have yet to see another with the same problem.
Thanks,
Jeff

I have received the same error on the 8.1.6 install. Also running NT 4.0 SP6a. I am running a canned install - nothing special with the exception of upgrading from 8.1.5 to .6
I'll re-post if I find out what the problem.

When I run my application (LV 6.0.2) on a Win NT system and close the application window, I get a Dr.Watson Error. Stopping the Application without closing the window causes no error. The error occures only in communication with my CAN-Interface. LabView 5.1.1 causes no error.

    The CAN-driver I use, is no NI-driver.
Yes, the application is a stand-alone exe generated by LV. I have no LV on the System, only the application (because of disk space).

  • MediaSource 5 Organizer cr

Hello. I'm having a problem with MediaSource 5.0.38 Organizer.
MS5 Player opens and runs just fine, except when I try to open OGGs. I haven't tested this too much, but when I tried to open a Wiktionary pronunciation OGG (the one for "hat" specifically, chosen at random), the player started up, started asking about file type associations, said "hat", and then promptly crashed. I didn't check the error specs for that, because it only happened once. I tried opening an MP3 from another website and it played fine without crashing.
Organizer, on the other hand, starts up (regardless of whether it's through the Start Menu, opening an Internet file through Firefox, etc.), displays the Sources and Now Playing fields (the latter usually contains another Wiktionary OGG for "assuage" which I played before the crashes started), starts the file type association bit, and promptly crashes with a Windows XP "program has encountered an error and needs to close"-type error with these specs:
    AppName: ctcmsu.exe
    AppVer: 5.2.3.0
    ModName: ctpcmlu.ecd
    Modver:5.2.4.0
    Offset: 000e5bc
Sometimes, the crash is so nasty that it also causes Dr. Watson Postmortem Debugger to crash. This doesn't seem to happen every time, but it happens enough. After the crash, Organizer remains open but frozen until I right-click it on the Taskbar and select close, at which point I am informed that it's not responding and have to click End Task before it closes.
I've updated my sound driver, thought I uninstalled all Creative software (apparently not since "assuage" was still in Now Playing, so I don't know what I missed) and reinstalled, and it still crashes.
After the Player crashed with "hat" I figured I'd try a different file-type. I opened an MP3 from the Internet with Player, and as I said it worked fine. Then I switched to Organizer view and it crashed in the same spot.
Is this something to do with my Library? Other threads lead me to believe it could be, but I don't know how to edit my library besides through Organizer.
I'm using a NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, and have the appropriate driver (ZEN and NOMAD Jukebox Plugin 5.00.22 for Creative MediaSource 5 Player & Organizer) from Creative.com installed. It crashes regardless of whether the player is plugged in. I'm on Windows XP SP2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    The same bug!
Yesterday I've uninstalled all Creative software with registry cleaning and complete file deleting to solve this problem.
I've installed latest version of drivers. MS5 (only skins and player was selected). Than NEO 6 + from original disk THX Console and Ent/Game/Audio consoles.
Organizer successfully imported my entire collection with mp3's and ogg's. Organizer worked fine for 5 hours and than crashed with error Offset: 000e5bc in ModName: ctpcmlu.ecd.
Now Organizer plays music, generates and plays Smart Playlist, but every attempt to access PC Music Library by clicking on it in the tree leads to error with Offset: 000e5bc in ModName: ctpcmlu.ecd.
I've manually deleted PC Music Library files in Doc_Set_User. No use. Crash during entire collection import. Even tried it with only one MP3 file. Successfully imported, but Organizer crashes every time when I click PC Music Library. So I think I need reinstall all Creative software once again.
    Is there any solution?

  • WebLogic 5.1 failing on Windows NT 4 SP6

We have a customer that has implemented the Financial Fusion Server in WebLogic 5.1 running on Windows NT 4 Server Service Pack 6. They have indicated the server is failing daily with an Access Violation occurring in java.exe. The Dr Watson log is showing the following exception: Exception number: c0000005 (access violation). While this may be true, the latest certified Sun 1.2.2 JVM causes

    Hi,
    1. Stop the DBConsole. (set ORACLE_SID first & ORACLE_HOME)
    cd %ORACLE_HOME%\bin
    emctl stop dbconsole
    2. Update the <ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/config/emd.properties file.
    Change line from:
    tracelevel.main=WARN
    To
    tracelevel.main=DEBUG
Decomment this line, so that the line becomes :
    EMAGENT_PERL_TRACE_LEVEL=DEBUG
    3. Update the <ORACLE__HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/config/emomslogging.properties
    Change line from:
    log4j.rootCategory=WARN, emlogAppender, emtrcAppender
    To
    log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG, emlogAppender, emtrcAppender
    4. Remove/backup all log files from ORACLE_HOME/<hostname_sid>/sysman/log
    5. Start the dbconsole and upload the output of each command
    - start the dbconsole: "emctl start dbconsole"
    - issue "emctl clearstate"
    - status the dbconsole: "emctl status dbconsole"
    - check the status of the agent until it comes up: "emctl status agent"
    - force an upload: emctl upload
    6. Check If you are able to view the dbconsole Page & login
check below logs may be you can see the close error messages to solve the issue.
    <ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/log directory
    <ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/config/emoms.properties
Otherwise re-create the DBconsole using the metalink doc 278100.1 : How To Drop, Create And Recreate DB Control In A 10g Database. (Please check the steps from Recreate/ReConfig DB Control, if you want to re-create)

I have 3 tier setup. Database 81741 on windows2000 SP3. Webserver on windows2000 SP2 using forms6i patch 11(6.0.8.20.1). Clients using IE5.05/IE6 to access database. Sometimes, a user hangs the process and kills his session from his PC, even reboots client. The process is still there on webserver and goes on taking more CPU and more memory till it cloggs the webserver. It has taken almost 100%CPU. How can we eliminate this process without rebooting the webserver.
I tried killing the session from the database end, it is still there on webserver. The user says he waited for 2 mins to respond the application and then killed using ctrl-alt-del. Is there a way to kill the session on the webserver. When we try killing using Task Manager, it says 'access denied' and wouldn't let us kill. Even, tried with FORMS60_TIMEOUT. IN normal situation, this worked but in this case where a application hanged & user killed, FORMS60_TIMEOUT even didn't kill the process ifweb60.exe.
Someone has a idea how to prevent from rebooting webserver again and again...other than to check all 100 forms for any infinite loops and fix that.
    Thanks a lot.

I believe this is a known bug.
As a work-around you could try to add FORMS60_CATCHTERM=0 to the registry.
This probably will cause Dr. Watson on the webserver box, but should kill the process.
    Slava.

  • How finalize program works

My question is how to make this finalize method to return "garbage collected" since the 3 object below is eligible for garbage collection.

  • Can I get a native dump (Dr. Watson) when JNI code causes an exception?

Is there a way to get the JVM to just not trap an exception, so that we can get a native dump? I have tried -XX:OnError="drwtsn32 -p %p". This did produce a Dr. Watson dump, but not a good one. I placed a deliberate error in the code, and called it outside of java, and got a good log file (with the fault in my DLL), but the same module called via JNI gave me a bad log file, with the fault point in ntdll.dll.
This is happening in java 1.4.2. In the field, the jvm is provided by IBM Websphere 6 on Windows 2000. I'm unable to duplicate the error, but am running the above mentioned tests in my Eclipse 3.1 + Weblogic 8.1development environment on Win XP.

    Queer!
This is not an error message I see when I try to execute a program not in my path!
And when I do not specify libraries to be linked, I get a linking error!
This seems to be a preprocessor error.
    What could it possibly be?
Do you have the correct calling convention in the case of #ifdef __cplusplus ??
I guess that should have been already done by your javah.
    I wonder.
I also wonder if cl.exe actually stands for "command line" exe
Can you pls send me all the files at [email protected] ??
    cheers

For the record, the JAVACLASSPATH should only contain the boot classes (and the JDK

To isolate the JDBC related errors, set the trace on for JDBC.log in your properties

I thought this might be a permissions problem, so I tried running the Administrator Server service as the local admin account instead of Local System Account. I get the same result either way.
Any ideas on what might be causing the problem?

Just a little further info. I installed Windows 2003 with SP1 and the latest updates available through Windows Updates and Sun Java System Web Server SP5 on a new server. I did not do any of the security configuration lockdown as I had done on the other server. I am still getting the Dr. Watson error when trying to generate a report, but I am also getting the following error:

  • Why does labview generate Dr. Watson error "C0000005 access violation"

I am running Labview 5.1.1 in Windows 2000 Professional on a machine with the following configuration
    *----> System Information <----*
    Computer Name: ANDANTE
    User Name: Administrator
    Number of Processors: 2
    Processor Type: x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 3
    Windows 2000 Version: 5.0
    Current Build: 2195
    Service Pack: 4
    Current Type: Multiprocessor Free
I have all of a sudden begun to experience labview crashes. The crash occurs systematically after tens of minutes; not just a few minutes, but not more than an hour or so. I am running a vi but not actively interacting with the machine (no other applications running, not even moving the mouse around). The problem happens even when running a vi that I have run successfully for extended periods of time (overnight) only 3 months ago. I have tried it with two different vis, one that I have recently made a lot of modifications to and another that has not been touched for months (since before the crashes began), and it happens with both vis. They do much different things (communicate with different GPIB or PCI boards, write to different kinds of files in different locations, etc.), so the problem seems to be vi-independent.
When the crash occurs, I see a dialog appear with the error
labview.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log has been created.
The Dr. Watson error log is generated and the error is
    Application exception occurred:
    App: (pid=1160)
    When: 4/25/2004 @ 01:57:56.640
    Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)
I always get the same Dr. Watson error information -- i.e., it is very reproducible. I don't really know how to interpret the rest of the Dr. Watson log, but I include the report on the first thread, which is the one with the "FAULT" in it, at the end of this email.
Looking around on the web, it may be that a temporary virus infection could have created the problem. In the period since the machines was last successfully used, I have seen two files be infected by the W32.Welchia.B.Worm virus, the files were svchost.exe and WksPatch[1].exe. These files have been quarantined and no other infected files have been found since this error began to appear.
Any ideas? I've seen on the web that reinstalling Windows 2000 and/or upgrading to Labview 7.0 might solve the problem, but it would be nice to get some confirmation before taking the time/spending the money.

For questions like these, you are better off contacting NI directly. Goto www.ni.com/ask for directions. It has been my experience that Dr. Watson error logs are only useful as supplementary information. It is best for support and for the forum if you can provide a clear description on how to cause the error consistently.

  • What causes NIDSTerminateApp call in LabVIEW application?

I have an application which periodically crashes with an exception c0000005 error. It is running on 2 different machines and has occurred on both machines (Windows 2000).
The Dr Watson log file shows very little information about the thread that crashes (it seems that it is pretty seriously trashed) but the back trace includes a call to NIDSTerminateApp. This is exported by nids.dll (the DataSocket library) so it leads me to think the problem may be there. However, I don't know if this is a response to an earlier problem (hence "terminate") or the cause of the problem.
I will include the log file below.
    Ciao
    Bill

    Bill,
The first thing I would try and get a handle on is whether the program is crashing on a common operation each time. Since the time elapsed between crashes varies so greatly, it doesn't really help in the process of narrowing things down. In this case, I would try and implement a log file for your program. Basically, place file write operations at various points in your program. They will serve as "checkpoints". When the program crashes, open the file and see what the last checkpoint that was passed. You will then be able to zoom in on the offending code if it is in fact the same piece of code causing the problem each run.
The drwtsn32.log file is an appended file, therefore the latest event is at the end of the file. Within Notepad, Scroll to
the bottom and search up for 'Application' . Somewhere beneath 'Application' is PID (process ID) this value is the process that was running when the Error was generated. Scroll down to check the list of processes and locate that number. In your file, this process is HeatTreatMain.e.exe.
Look for 'FAULT ->' and this is the place within the processes where the application error occurred. The new section shows the stack, however the function names are usually NOT correctly identified by the Dr. Watson.
In the vast majority of cases the drwtsn32.log file does not contain sufficient information in order to debug the failure. It only gives you an idea about the failure. It is the user.dmp file that might lead to a solution. The utility only creates the Dr. Watson log file (drwtsn32.log). You have to instruct the Dr. Watson to create the crash dump (user.dmp). Launch the utility by typing drwtsn32 in the Start»Run. You are going to get a new window similar to the one attached below.

  • How to localize cause of GPF at RunUserInterface (unknown position)

    Hallo,
I'm facing the random GPF pointed to the RunUserInterface thread at unknown position; unfortunately the condition of the crash is really random (sometime suddenly after the initialization the application, sometimes after quite log run, sometimes after mouse cursor pointing to tooltip, ...).
The developed application (under CVI 2012 SP1 as 32-bit app for Win) is quite complex user interface to distributed control system using external dll library as the data layer. This library is running it's own threads and I'm using the multithreading library TSQ concept to get data from data layer.
Have anyone some hints to reveal the cause?
I've digged this, this, and this - but not have no success to follow the hints. After the crash (release mode) there isn't obvious "crash dump" Windows dialog. Iinstead of this a dialog box to start the (CVI) debugger appears - but it leads again in the blind way. After start of the CVI, there is message no debugging information (?), "unknown position at thread id  XYZ ..." (note the XYZ corresponds the main thread id again).
    Thanks for any help!
    George

    Hello,
    thanks Roberto for your concern!
Unfortunately there isn'n any explicit and direct relation to the gui operation (there involve duplicating of tab panels with tooltip enabled, creating the panels from hidden template - again with the tooltips etc.)
But! If I'm not on wrong path, there are circumstances indicating a problem in toolbox library - see the attached picture (I'v gained a little progress in collaboration with WinDbg and Dr. Watson ... ). On the left is WinDbg interpretation of crash dump, on the right is the map file content.
Thread list sems to be correct, I'v found ThreadsId of some used threads, the 000:1244 belongs to mainTheadId.
The call stack probably shows activity of tool tip function:
    cvirte!clock + 0x9F3
    cvirte!clock + 0x60A
    cvirte!SetIdleEventRate + 0x7A3
    cvirte!SetIdleEventRate + 0x23F
    Siimon + 0x27204
    Siimon + 0x1A780
I'm a little confused discrepancy with the table of symbols (map file) - the offsets of function doesn't perfect match. Could someone knowledgeable shed light on this, please?
Or is it just a coincidence and I have nothing to do with tooltip and I'm facing problems with overwriting memory or something similar?
    Thank for any expert voice!
    George
