[extra:editors] nvu 1.0 with KDE mimetypes

Introduction
The Nvu WYSIWYG web editor is available on two flavors:  the standard build which do not require KDE, and another one which use KDE to provide mimetypes icons on the Site Manager. This thread supports only the KDE mimetypes version.  For the non KDE version, look here.
Below is a comparison picture of both Site Managers so you can compare and decide then which version do you want to install.
Note: Both packages share the same directory structure, which means only one of them can be installed at the same time. That's the reason a conflict restriction exists between them.
Pre Install Notes
1. If upgrading from 0.80 or earlier, remove the .nvu dir in your home folder.  Already have 0.90 or later?  Can keep your dir and settings.
2. Look the Change Log at the botton for a summary of the changes.
Installation
1. Grab a gziped tar from on AUR site here, or the splited files below:
a. PKGBUILD
b. mozconfig
c. nvu.desktop
d. mozilla-1.7.3-ft2.patch or get it from /var/abs/network/mozilla-firefox (or mozilla-thunderbird)
e. nvu-0.70-domainfix.patch
f. launcher.patch
g. mozilla-ext
h. nvu-browser-ext
i. nvu-1.0PR-kdesitemanager.patch
j. nvu-nonroot.tar.gz
2. Create the folder to store the files with the name nvu-kde on your abs/local folder
$ mkdir /var/abs/local/nvu-kde
3. Put the files on that directory
$ cp * /var/abs/local/nvu-kde
4. Change to /var/abs/local/nvu-kde dir and build the package
# cd /var/abs/local/nvu-kde && makepkg
5. Install the package
# pacman -U nvu-kde-1.0-1.pkg.tar.gz (Upgrading a previous version installed, or)
# pacman -A nvu-kde-1.0-1.pkg.tar.gz (Adding or installing a new program)
Post Installation & Enhancements
After installing Nvu and recommended prior to its first execution, but can be done anytime, visit this link which allow the normal user to add themes & extensions to Nvu and in fact, to all mozilla product line installed on your computer.
This step will not be included on the package until the changes explained on that HOWTO became adopted by other Arch mozilla packages.
Troubleshooting:
Click the icon and doesn't run:  Run it from the console, and if you got a loop message with the phrase "Loading the extensions datasource", then as root type:
$ nvu -register
and run nvu again as a user, and report your sucess or failure here.
Loading the extensions datasource message on shell:  Look above for the workaround.
FAQ
1. Browse button and help hyperlinks open mozilla-firefox and I would like to open another browser. Edit your /opt/mozilla/bin/mozilla-ext, comment the line exec $MOZILLA_FIVE_HOME/firefox $url and uncomment one of the other lines.  Currently you can choose between firefox, mozilla, opera and konqueror.

Change Log
Doc modified 2005-07-01: Updated info.
Files modified in 2005-06-31:  PKGBUILD, nvu-nonroot.tar.gz
2005-07-01 (1.0-1) Upgraded to 1.0, smaller nonroot patch.
2005-04-15 (1.0PR-1) Upgrade to 1.0PR, return to nonroot patch so Gnome users can compile without root.
2005-03-11 (0.90-1) Upgrade to 0.90.
2005-02-13 (0.81-1) Upgraded to 0.81, nonroot patch replaced by nvu -register, new script to activate browse button and help hyperlinks. Locale dirs of win and mac removed.
2005-02-05 (0.80-1) Updated to 0.80.
2005-01-19 (0.70-2) Freetype2 fix, file structure matches other mozilla apps. Mozilla-common dependency added.
2005-01-12 (0.70-1) First version with KDE mimetypes support.
Hope you enjoy it.

New package for the 0.81 version.
In addition to the updated version, I made the following enhancements or changes to the package:
1. Remove some locale directories bundle with nvu which belongs to mac and windows architectures.
2. Added a mozilla-ext script which is execute a predefined browser either when the browse button is pressed or a hyperlink from the help menu entries is clicked.  Previous versions do nothing on those actions.  The default browser is firefox, but the file can be edited if your current browser is other.  Just edit /opt/mozilla/bin/mozilla-ext, comment the first browser which is firefox, and uncomment the one you want to use.
3. The most important in terms of usage and future package maintenance is the replacement of the nonroot.tar.gz file with  the -register option.  That change takes out the most difficult and time consuming patch  of the package.  That means faster releases.
Since many changes were done to the package, please test it and post any success or failure.

  • [Solved] KDE mimetype issue?

    Hi all.
I'm having a rather annoying issue with KDE/Ktorrent/Kiso. Whenever I choose one of the "Open directory" options from within Ktorrent, it KDE uses Kiso for it. I'm pretty sure that I caused this myself a while back by messing with KDE's mimetype settings but cannot remember which. Eventhough I removed Kiso, the problem still persists and was carried through different versions of Ktorrent but IIRC not KDE3/kdemod3 to KDE4. Any suggestions/help will be greatly appreciated and I'd be happy to supply any information you might need.
Currently using kdemod3 and also had the issue while using the official KDE3 packages. I know that wiping ~/.kde/ might solve it but I'd rather use that as a last resort.
    Cheers.
    Edit:
Seems I messed it with with a custom ~/.local/share/applications/kiso.desktop. Deleted it and all is well.

Yes, I made sure these settings are correct...
It's really odd, I have localised texts in the system settings, but menu  bars are English. Also it says "Arbeitsfläche settings", not "Desktop settings int he contect menu on the desktop.
At bootup today I realsized the Samba server also complains about locale:
/etc/rc.d/functions: line 67: warning: setlocale: LC_CTYPE: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8): No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/functions: line 67: warning: setlocale: LC_NUMERIC: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8): No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/functions: line 67: warning: setlocale: LC_TIME: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8): No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/functions: line 67: warning: setlocale: LC_COLLATE: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8): No such file or directory
/etc/rc.d/functions: line 67: warning: setlocale: LC_MESSAGES: cannot change locale (en_US.UTF-8): No such file or directory
    I really don'T know what's going on.

  • [SOLVED] Post installation issues with KDE 4.7.0

I reinstalled my machine (DELL Studio 540 PC) with Arch Linux 64 bit. I did an install using LVM2 and RAID (have 2 500 GB drives in my machine). Everything went fine with the installation and bootloader (grub2) but I'm having a few issues with KDE and grub2.
    1. When booting my machine grub2 gives an error saying "error: fd0 not found" (twice). My machine does not have a floppy drive and has never had one. There is no option in the BIOS to turn floppy off. So why is grub2 complaining about it?
    2. With KDE 4.7.0 thumbnails of pdf files are not generated anymore, they were with previous versions of KDE4. Anybody else have that issue with 4.7?
    3. I have and Brother DCP-7045n printer in my network and when try to print from a KDE program (Koffice, Kate, Kwrite, Kile etc.), the margins are completely messed up. The print preview on the screens looks right but the actual print everything shift upwards to the right. So things on top of a page are cut off for example. Printing from Gnome/GTK apps (Acrobat Reader, Libreoffice etc.) do not show this behaviour. I 've had this issue with KDE4 since KDE 4.3. Here is the original ustream bug:
    https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=196590
Anybody got an idea how to fix this?
    4. Skype is crashing on me on startup constantly several times before it finally runs. I've had this problem since the 2.2.x series got released? Anybody got a fix for that. I was hoping a reinstall would fix that problem (same with the printing issue) but no luck.
    5. I'm using KDE's microblogging plasma app to check my twitter account but I can't get to remember my password. Everytime I log into I have to manually login to my twitter and kdewallet is running and has my password stored and everything. This one really pusles me.
    6. The final issue I having and issue was also the  reason why I wanted to reinstall my machine in the first place. I originally used KDEmod as my desktop but they stopped making KDEmod some time ago when they started working on Chakra. So I removed KDEmod and installed KDE from Arch directly. A nice feature of KDE4 is its ability to generate previews on folders containing images and videos. When I switched to KDE that feature stopped working. So I was expecting that with a fresh install that this work and it does except for folders containing jpeg files. If I have a folder containing only jpeg files no previews/thumbnails are generated on the folder but previews the jpeg files themselves are generated. Does anybody else have that problem with jpegs and folder previews?
Hope somebody can help me with these few issues...

Have you installed grub2 with that --no-floppy flag as described in:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Grub2#BIOS_systems?

Nope. Is it selected in dolphin>settings>general>previews.
fettouhi wrote:5. I'm using KDE's microblogging plasma app to check my twitter account but I can't get to remember my password.
Well that won't be a solution, but you might use choqok instead - at least it stores the password.
To answer your first answer, yes I installed grub2 with the --no-floppy option as mentioned in the wiki. Regarding 2 I don't understand why that works for you then? I have all things turned on under previews (folder, video, jpeg etc.) but as mentioned in my first post I have no previews with pdf files and jpegs do generate on folder previews. Finally regarding 5 the microblogging plasma app worked fine on my old installation even after I updated to KDE 4.7.0. The password issue I'm having is on my fresh install.

  • Charge of extra 1% when I buy with my credit card ( itunes.mx in MXN )

Charge of extra 1% when I buy with my credit card ( itunes.mx in MXN ) if itunes receipt is $ 360 MXN, why the charge is $ 363.59?

However my bank called me and said that Apple charged me 4 times the amount of 1 dollar. At the end I still can't use the iTunes store, and I have 4 dollars down
Note that the $4 is not really a charge but a hold used to verify the card.
It will be released back to your account.

  • Strange problem with kde 4.12 suggestions

Hi, i have a strange problem with kde 4.12, with the video below is much simple to explain, any idea?
    https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7vmSq … sp=sharing

Some of us experienced crashes after 4.11 update. I am not sure if this is related to your case or not but downgrading some packages solves the issue.

  • How to eliminate extra white when hovering over with a back ground color?

I just finished my menu and I notice that the hovering color is not hiding all the white.  Does someone know how to eliminate extra white when hovering over with a back ground color?
    http://www.tammyfarringtoncreative.com/test/index.html
    Thanks!

You have heights on the ul, li as 36px and a line-height of the text of 35px so they are not matching up.  Personally speaking I would normally recommend using padding on the links to create the height and not set the height on the ul or li elements.

  • System Clipboard with KDE

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this.
I have a bunch of users using an application mostly on either windows, Linux with Gnome and Linux with KDE. Sometimes, and only on KDE, pasting stuff from the System clipboard causes the application to totally freese up (no CPU time is used, but the application becomes totally unresponsive). I have asked the KDE users to switch over to Gnome, but would really like to know the underlying reason for the problem.

toxic, from what I understand from t-dawg's questions is that he wants to emulate what you can do in gvim, but with vim instead.
In gvim, I can click the mouse button; hold; drag downwards and then gvim will start scrolling downwards, whilst highlighting the passing lines. This is how you highlight large amounts of text (greater than what can fit in a single screen at a time) with a mouse.
However, terminals are slightly dumber. Whilst you can highlight areas of text, that's a console function and not something that vim itself is monitoring. Therefore, you can't achieve the same effect with the mouse in vim as you can in gvim.
Of course, vim is perfectly capable of selecting more text than can fit in a single screen. It has a visual mode. Press v and then move down with your cursor keys, et volia - highlighted text.
Now when it comes to shifting this to X11's clipboard, I've never tried (hence the link I gave for possible help). I'm sure it can be done.

  • Help with kde/gnome

hello everyone .. I have just install arch linux ( installed all packages on cd )
and now im stuck with runlevel4 .. I tried to startx but that brings me into a version ugly graphical desktop . I guess my real question is . How do I get KDE or Gnome running ?

    sysboy wrote:
hey scarecrow where and how can I get 3.4.2 on my system
    pacman im guess ???
Simply edit /etc/pacman.conf and uncomment the lines related to "testing".
After that, "telinit 3" (as root), login as root, and "pacman -Syu" (or maybe "pacman -Sy kde", as the previous command will also fetch you the new xorg version from testing, which seems being OK, but I'm not 100% sure....)
This should effortlessly upgrade you to 3.4.2 (after some time, of course!).
To avoid nasties, get sure that NO external kde apps are installed (else uninstall them BEFORE the upgrade and recompile them after the upgrade...), and for safety rename your old .kde user (hidden) directory to something else (in case that some useful data were stored there- else simply delete it before logging to KDE again).
The biggest worry with KDE 3.4.2 is that it also brings gcc 4.0.1 with it, which still has some quirks (maybe this is the sole reason it's still at "testing"), but IMO we all should get accustomed to it- sooner rather than later...

  • Problems with Kde Devil (Bluetooth)

    Hi!
I have a very strange problem with Kde Devil. When you open any part of the program I get the cancel button covering most of the window.  It is impossible out of the way and when pressed, it cancels everything.  I take two Screenshots:
It happens with KDE4. Is there any way to solve it?
    Thank you so much

Well, I think I fixed it. I had to tell my phone to forget the headphones, then restart my phone and start all over from scratch. I really hope I don't have to do this every day.

  • Chromium random and frequent freezes/crashes with KDE

    Hello folks,
as sated on the topic I keep on getting random and frequent crashes with either Chromium and Chrome with KDE 4.13.3.
The freeze/crash doesn't happen when doing a specific task and can occur at anytime.
The way it happens is that Chromium freeze up and than if I minimize the window and maximize it again the Chromium window just disappears and at that point all I can do is killing it manually.
The wiki suggests that libcanberra-pulse is the reason that cause those freezes and should be removed, however after a quick look up into the system it doesn't seem that I have it installed.
    [latrina@chromebookC720 ~]$ sudo pacman -Q |grep libcanberra
    libcanberra 0.30-4
Here's the output of the crash .

I will reply to myself.. I am not sure anymore that this is an issue that has to do specifically with KDE, since according to this guy it might be something related with libglx.
A quick look at my Xorg.0.log tells me that glx is loaded correctly.
    [ 302.233] (II) LoadModule: "glx"
    [ 302.234] (II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/extensions/libglx.so
    [ 302.235] (II) Module glx: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
I am going to shoot a noob question here, is this a generic open source driver or do I need a specific one for my graphic card? I do have a intel i915.
Also what's the package that handles libglx*? I'd try removing it and install it again. I mean until yesterday I had Chrome and Chromium perfectly working on Arch and the same kernel, than I had to replace the ssd with a bigger one and I decided to start from scratch with just what I needed, and here you have it both Chrome and Chromium miss behaving ..

  • DRDY ERR I/O Errors only occur with KDE. HDD or kernel related?

This isn't too urgent since I'm not having this problem anymore, but I would like to know what caused it in the first place.
A few months ago, I think it was in May, when I was booting into KDE, the desktop wouldnt load. After logging in it goes to a black screen with a cursor. I check my tty consoles and they are all spammed with DRDY and I/O errors.
Today my log files don't go back to that time, but I apparantly wrote them down:
    [timestamp] ata1.00: irq_stat 0x40000001
    [timestamp] ata1: SError: { CommWake }
[timestamp] ata1.00: failed command: READ FPDMA QUEUED
    [timestamp] ata1.00: cmd 60/08:00:79:c5:e9/00:00:38:00:00/40 tag 0 ncq 4096 in
[timestamp]                res 41/40:08:7c:c5:e9/00:00:38:00:00/60 Emast 0x409 (media error) <F>
    [timestamp] ata1.00: status {DRDY ERR }
    [timestamp] error: { UNC }
[timestamp] end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 9540445540
It repeats this over and over again on all 7 consoles. I believe the hex numbers and sector # change slightly each time it repeats.
I restart the computer and it does the same thing. Then one day it booted into the desktop after sitting at a black screen with a cursor for 10 minutes.
When I saw Media and I/O error, I immediately thought it was my hard drive failing (which sucks because I had this computer for less than a year). But the weird thing was that once it finally boots into a desktop enviroment, everything works fine. I can access any file without any error, I can boot into my windows partition perfectly, and everything runs as fast as it did before. I ran fschk and chksdk several times, I passed with 0 bad sectors. SMART tests come out perfect.
The strangest thing about this is that the errors only come about when I boot into KDE. If I boot into any other enviroment I do not get these errors. Completely reinstalling KDE did not fix it. I don't remember updating or changing anything before these errors started appearing. I did do a full system update once I was actually able to get into my KDE session, but it didnt do anything. I eventually solved it by using another desktop enviroment, which was xfice at the time but now its cinnamon. I never got those errors ever since.
I posted something similar to this on KDE's forum, and no one could figure it out. One of the admins told me its very unusual that something like this would happen only with KDE, and the READ FPDMA/DRDY ERRs "are sourced from the kernel - and are disk/kernel related according to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... bug/550559."
As of now I can install KDE perfectly without any sort of issue, but I know several kernel updates occured since then. So could this be a issue with the kernel? Or is my hdd really starting to fail? I backed up the computer already, but I record music constantly and don't "aggresively" run backups (i.e not every day, but every month or so). Should I start doing so?
    Thanks

The READ FPDMA QUEUED errors come up in SMART's log, so those problems I had have to be HDD related, not kernel. Other than that I really don't know what I'm looking at here. I don't like the numbers for UDMA_CRC_Error Count or Multi Zone Error rate, but I don't know what those mean. Until someone explains to me what I'm dealing with here, I'm going to assume it is an HDD problem and start furiously backing stuff up.
bart_b wrote:Some of these issues are related to interference of the Spread Spectrum Clocking (SSC), SSC is a way of eliminating interference. Now some BIOSes let you tweak this setting and some harddisks like WD have a jumper setting to disable/enable the spread spectrum frequency. But since it is more of a RF issue rearranging your sata cables might help or replace them with a better quality cable could do the trick to reduce interference. If you have overclocked your PC, try to re-tweak it to a more sane level.
I forgot to mention that my computer is a Dell Inspiron n5110. Its a piece of garbage, its the only computer I am aware off that has programs that PREVENT you from connecting to the internet when you don't buy their stupid extended warranty. I'm saving up for a thinkpad t420 but thats another story
Woah. Radio signals interfering with data passing through the SATA cables? I've had poorly sheilded guitar cables that pick up odd AM stations, but SATA cables? Thats bizzare. I don't own a PC yet, but I'm going to build one for my brothers once the parts come in, and I'll definitely make a note of that. I didn't even know you could overclock a CPU to the point where it GENERATES RF signals powerful enough to interfere with the HDD. Thats really interesting.
Another note I should mention is that the motherboard on my dell died maybe a month or 2 after the I/O errors. Gotta love dell. Every single dell computer I owned died of mobo failure without any warning. Even their printers. Good god.
Anyway, could the mobo have been a factor? I know the tech that replaced the mobo told me that the LCD cable wasn't seated correctly, so could the SATA cables have been bad as well? I really doubt it though, but who knows
    Edited for embarrassing spelling mistakes
I think it's rather interesting that both you and I have Toshiba hard drives.  I've heard that they're supposed to be as delicate as glass, but mine's held up all right, until these weird errors and stuff.
As for motherboards.  If the motherboard is messed up, everything will seem messed up, but may or may not.

  • [SOLVED] How to start JACK with KDE 4? (and which JACK should I use?)

    Hi again
I'm using KDE 4, and I've just installed JACK again, and since I can't find any decent documentation on this, I'm having a bit of a problem.
Currently I have jack from [extra] installed, rather than jack2. When I try starting jack as the ArchWiki suggests, i.e. by typing "jackd -d alsa", I get the following error:
    $ jackd -d alsa
    jackd 0.120.1
Copyright 2001-2009 Paul Davis, Stephane Letz, Jack O'Quinn, Torben Hohn and others.
jackd comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY
This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it
under certain conditions; see the file COPYING for details
could not open driver .so '/usr/lib/jack/jack_firewire.so': libffado.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
JACK compiled with System V SHM support.
    loading driver ..

    control device hw:0
the playback device "hw:0" is already in use. Please stop the application using it and run JACK again
    cannot load driver module alsa
I've also tried jack2 from [community], and after starting it with "jack_control start", I get this...
    $ jack_control start
    --- start
DBus exception: org.jackaudio.Error.Generic: Failed to start server
So how do I start it? I'm guessing jack doesn't want to start because some other KDE application grabbed alsa before jackd (but I've been wrong before), and I don't have the slightest idea what jack2 is about with that "generic" error. If anyone would help me shed some light on this, I'd appreciate it a lot.
    Thanks in advance!

    @schivmeister thanks that one worked
Yes, it was knotify4. So now this part works. I've switched to jack2 and it works flawlessly when starting it with jackd
So this part is solved... now, would you be so kind (if you know) as to point me to some tutorials or howtos (or proper documentation, cos I can't find much of that either) on how to connect various ALSA channels with JACK?
Basically, I want to route my PCM channel and the Mic channel into Capture 1 (or one to Capture 1 and other to Capture 2), since my Intel HDA audio card doesn't have the "Mix" or "What-U-Hear" or whatever as an available capture source. Any leads on that? (or do I have to open another thread for it?)
    TIA

The X server is started by KDM. And don't know if there is some sort of way that I should configure KDE to start X with the bumblebee configuration.
Anyway, does somebody came across this kind of issue? How can I make my external and laptop screen work properly ?

I solved it by brute force:
    pacman -Rdd libgl
(delete conflicting package without checking dependencies)
    pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils
And now I can watch high-quality video on a  big external TV through HDMI (driven by Nvidia card), while also independently using internal monitor.
