Extractions from Searchable PDFs - Even After Auto-Tagging Cannot Save as PDF/A

I'm currently extracting relevant parts from 100+ page PDF files, but cannot save the extractions as PDF/A if they come from a searchable version, even after adding auto-tagging via the Accessibility function, but I can do so if they come from a non-searchable version of the PDF. Is this normal? If so, how do I convert a searchable PDF to a non-searchable one so that I can save its extracted pages as PDF/A?
After looking into this further, it now seems as though I cannot convert certain documents, whether searchable or non-searchable, into PDF/A. Could the person who sent these to me have saved them in a way to prevent conversion into PDF/A? This is a required standard for legal documents.
Message was edited by: Paul Ulrich

In Preflight, after I use "analyse and fix", three red X's appear next to
(1) Convert to PDF/A-1a;
(2) PDF document is not compliant with PDF/A-1a (2005); and
(3) True Type font has differences to standard encoding but is not a symbolic font.
Does this mean it could be compliant with PDF/A-1b, which would be good enough for legal documents (just need to be PDF/A)? However, with other documents that reached PDF/A-1b, when I open them, I light grey band appears at the top saying they purport to be PDF/A Compliant. That, however, does not happen with these documents... so how do I know if they are PDF/A okay?

    The iphone is not  storage/backup device.
    The sync is one way - computer to iphone.
    The only exception is itunes purchases.  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
    You should copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old computer, to your new one.

    If you do not have, or remember, the passcode for Restrictions, the only option available to you is to reset the device to factory settings via itunes.

  • Cannot save Adobe PDF Settings File error

    I'm using Acrobat X Pro with Windows 8. I've downloaded a .joboptions file to add to Distiller. I select Settings > Add Adobe PDF settings, browse to the file's location, select the file, and click Open.
    Distiller says, "Cannot save Adobe PDF Settings File."
    In the Start menu, I right-clicked Adobe Acrobat X Pro and selected Properties > Compatibility > Run this program as Administrator. It didn't help. Suggestions welcome.

    I downloaded it from the linked website, and installed it successfully in Distiller 10. I don't know of a "Repair" utility for Distiller, so maybe you should uninstall and install Acrobat X in order to reinstall Distiller 10.

    Firefox no longer opens PDF files. Explorer works OK. I have checked the Applications window in the Tools/Options and it says I am using PDF-xChange viewer....It just does not do anything. I get the message in the Download Error window which says...."could not be saved, because you cannot change the contents of that folder. Is the same error which I get when I attempt to open a PDF file on a webpage using the Firefox browser....Explorer works OK so I am now forced to Explorer to read PDF files via a browser.
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == After removing a old copy of PDF-xChange Viewer and updating to the last version

    The error message suggests that the file (pdf) that you're trying to download cannot be saved in the folder Firefox tries to save it in.
    This can be due to several things - it could be a non-existing folder (could be a problem with the updated application), the hard drive could be too full to store the file (less likely if you can generally surf the net without error messages) or it could contain an error.
    To complicate things a little further, it seems to me that you have (at least) 3 different PDF-handling plugins in Firefox from different programs:
    PDF-XChange Viewer Netscape Gecko Plugin
    Adobe PDF Plug-In For Firefox and Netscape "9.3.2"
    Zeon PDF Plugin For Mozilla
    This shouldn't matter too much, thou, as it will most likely simply use either the latest installed or the first one it finds when looking up associations for files of type 'pdf'.
    First, in Tools > Options... > tab General > section File download, select "Save files in" and Browse your way to a (non-writeprotected!) folder on a drive where you're certain there is enough free space - like the Desktop folder to make the files end up on your Windows desktop.
    Second, under Applications as you mention yourself, find all document types related to PDF files, and set these to one of the programs. Check the entire list to be sure there isn't one hiding under one of the other programs' document types (Adobe Acrobat document, PDF X-Change and Zeon).
    Restart Firefox, and try opening a PDF again.
    If it fails once more, try changing the documents again to one of the other programs, like "Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)".
    If it STILL fails, change it to simply "Save file". Then you can simply browse your way to the download folder with Windows Explorer, and doubleclick the PDF file to see which program actually handles PDF files as default on the machine, and if it works properly.
    If Firefox flatly refuses to save the PDF files in a folder which you're certain both exist and has space for the file, some (probably security related) program is most likely interfering with Firefox, preventing it in storing PDF files on the system.

  • Cannot save as PDF - "Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use..."

    I have a number of PSD files I've created and I'm trying to save them as PDFs.
    I can Save for Web and Devices, I can save as a .gif, .eps., and every other format I've tested, but I cannot save as a PDF. I get the error:
    "Could not save a copy as (filename) because the file is already in use or was left open by another application."
    I'm running Adobe Master Collection CS5 with Photoshop CS 5.5 (12.0.4 x64) on a Windows 7 64-bit machine.
    I have a 928 GB HD with 697 GB free.
    I have rebooted and tried saving the files immediately after I reboot. I have killed my virus scanner. I have killed a number of other possible culprits including Acrotray.exe and CS5ServiceManager.ext
    I have run Process Explorer as recommended by Microsoft and found no applications using the file. I've also tried saving the file to my external hard drive and/or renaming the file with only rare luck.
    Nothing seems to fix it.
    The boards seem to suggest Adobe isn't taking responsibility for this and pointing it back to the OS or other software. I'm willing to believe them if someone can show me how/where to kill whatever process it is - but at this point, all my indicators point back to Photoshop.

    Here is a clip from a past post where user could not drag and drop files to hard drive.
    To my great relief I have now sorted this issue and offer the following as the Correct Answer. My sincere and grateful thanks go to Curt and Yammer, above, who have helped me so much in sorting this Windows 7 issue which is clearly very relevant to Bridge users also. Any slowness to grasp what they have been saying is down to me!
    The key to solving this issue lies is understanding that in terms of Windows 7 Security, every internal or external hard drive, plus folders, sub-folders and files thereon has an OWNER. Also each OWNER has a certain level of PERMISSION to do things such as moving files to a different folder, deleting or re-naming them etc. If you try to do things that you don't currently have Permission to do, that is when you get an ‘Access Denied’ error message. Also your system has an Admistrator or Administrators and at the outset you need to ensure through the Control Panel that you are listed as one of them. .
    If, like me, you didn't realise these things, (and why would you if Microsoft or your computer or hard drive suppliers couldn't be bothered to really make sure you knew about them), then trying to fathom the ‘Access Denied’ problem becomes a stressful and frustrating nightmare as I can testify having spent a week at it!
    The steps that I took to resolve the issue and which I believe now constitute the 'Correct Answer' are as follows:
    First make sure that you have Administrator rights on your system via the Control Panel
    Next ‘right click’ on the Drive whose files you want to gain full access to, for example the drive that your pictures are stored on, and click on 'Properties'.
    Under the Security tab you will see a list of Groups and Users on this drive and the Permissions that they have to do things.
    Before doing anything to edit these Permissions, first click on the Advanced button. This opens another window with a tab showing the Owner of this drive.
    Click on the Owner tab and if you are not already listed as the owner, make yourself the owner by selecting your name from the list. I believe it should appear there if you are an admistrator or user. (In my case at this stage the owner was initially shown as an obscure string of numbers and letters which I believe identified the drive when it was connected to the lap top I was using before I upgraded my machine)
    Now be sure to check the box that says "Replace Owner on Subcontainers and Objects" and the click Apply. On completion of this step, the drive in question and all the folders, subfolders and files thereon should now be 'owned' by you. You could check this out by right clicking on a particular folder then clicking Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner. Your name should appear. So far so simples!
    Now go back to the Security Tab for your drive (Step 2 / 3 above) and look at the Permissions you currently have. Your aim now is to allow yourself 'Full Control.' If you don’t currently have this level of permission click Edit, select your name on the list, check ‘Full Control’ and 'Apply' the change.
    I think I'm right in saying that at this point whilst still working in the Drive directory you are now given the option of ticking boxes which allow you to, in effect, cascade the permission you have just granted yourself to all the files and folders on that drive. Tick the box to allow this and Windows should then take care of the rest.If I'm not quite correct here then in my particular case, for example, all my images were stored on my external drive. The top level, or 'parent' folder in which all my pictures could be found was the 'My Pictures' folder and I had created a number of folders and subfolders ('child ' folders) within that folder. The permissions I gave to the Parent folder – My Pictures – were cascaded down through the Child folders.
    On completion of the above step I tested the result in Windows Explorer by dragging a few files back and forth between folders and it now worked perfectly - I was now able to move / delete / rename etc all files without now getting the dreaded access denied message. What a sense of relief! This meant that I could now open Bridge normally rather than having to right click it and 'Run As Admistrator' - albeit that is a very useful thing to do until you get the problem sorted as described.

  • I downloaded Redear to see if it could open an old .pdf file.  Now I cannot open any .pdf files.

    What is wrong with Reader?  Having loaded it I now cannot open any .pdf file in my computer or on email.

    Cannot get over the impression that the fault is deliberate.  Building in the requirement for all users then loading a weak link, that drives you to purchase.
    Shockwave is FREE... Flash Player is FREE.... Adobe Reader is FREE... Adobe AIR is FREE... Those four products are, and always have been, FREE... Flash Professional, which is for creating and editing Flash animation and video files, is a paid licensed product. Acrobat Professional, which is for creating and editing PDFs, is a paid licensed product. Neither Flash Player nor Adobe Reader have any links to prompt an upgrade to the professional version of software for the file format. Never have. Viewing Flash content and PDFs needs to be universally available to the public who receive such content over the Internet. Creating and editing Flash files and PDFs is not something that everyone needs, so it's only available at a cost for those who need it and choose to use Flash Pro or Acrobat.
    There are Creative suites with several Adobe applications for everything from photo and graphic editing, to video editing, to making e-readers, to web design, but those are for developers of the individual media.

  • I've followed instructions but cannot save a PDF as a JPEG file. It appears like I'm saving the file but no file gets saved.  Help!

    My Acrobat Professional 7 will not save a PDF file as a JPEG. I have followed the instructions to the letter and it appears like all is fine, but when I go back to retrieve the file, nothing got saved.  How do I fix this?

    Hi ssiequ,
    Which OS are you using?
    Does this issue occur with other pdf's as well?
    Is Acrobat 7 updated to the latest patch? Did you try repairing Acrobat from the 'Help' menu and check?
    Was this working fine for you before?

  • Cannot Save generated PDF, and associated data file is in french not english

    Hello,
    So I have 2 weird issues.
    First, after I save my newly created form as a PDF, I send it off to my coworker, they cannot save the document after filling it out, only print.  Checking the security settings on the document, everything is allowed except document assembly, changing the document, and creation of template pages, yet they cannot save the filled out form only print.  Created in LiveCycle Designer ES 8.2 with Adobe Reader 9.
    When I generated previewed data, the saved data is in french yet all of my settings are English including program, OS, and regional settings are all English US.
    Need help asap.

    Thanks for the reply.
    The option I was trying to do is:
    User has the Reader (form Reader Enabled using the full version of Acrobat before deployment. See licence restrictions)
    user can open form;
    fill it in;
    print it;
    data connections to databases and web services will NOT work;
    user can save the form.
    The actual answer to the question is this:
    Enable Reader users to save form data
    Ordinarily, Reader users can’t save filled-in copies of forms that they complete. However, you can extend rights to Reader users so they have the ability to do so. These extended rights also include the ability to add comments, use the Typewriter tool, and digitally sign the PDF.
    Open a single PDF, or select one or more PDFs in a PDF Portfolio.
    Choose Advanced > Extend Features In Adobe Reader.
    The other question regarding the data in french is still unknown why it is doing that.

  • Cannot Save as PDF

    When I try to save as PDF, the screen goes blank & Frame stops responding. When I close that window, I see the message about turning off the Rely on system fonts only in Adobe PDF. However, I already did clear that check box, both in Printer properties (Adobe PDF Printing Defaults) and in Printing Preferences. (I don't understand what the difference is between Properties and Preferences except that the same troublesome check box appears is two different locations.)
    Does anyone know what else I might do to get Frame to "accept" that that check box is cleared?
    There is another problem that might be related. I have two Adobe PDF printers listed in Printers and Faxes. One is named Adobe PDF, and the other is Adobe PDF Converter. I cannot find version information on either to decide which is the most recent. Should I delete one of them? Does anyone know which?
    I got Save as PDF to work previously, but not sure what has changed. Do I HAVE to set the PDF printer as my default printer for Save as PDF to work?
    Using Frame 9 on Windows 7.
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    John

    OK, Save as PDF works as long as the Acrobat PDF printer is set as system default. It doesn't work when another printer is set as system default and Acrobat PDF is selected as FrameMaker's printer in Print Setup. This makes no sense to me, but what do I know?
    Thanks again, Art.

  • Saving iCal as PDF...don't have Save As PDF in Print drop down

    Can someone help me figure out how to save iCal as PDF?  I read the thread about saving as PDF in the print drop down however I don't have "save as PDF" anywhere in the iCal print drop down.  Am I just blind ?:)
    thanks

    You should find Export... in both the File menu and the Share menu.
    For PDF, you may find it simpler to go through the Print dialogue:
    Press command-P to open the dialogue,
    Choose one of the options in the menu of the PDF button at lower left of the dialogue,

  • All of a sudden if I amend a PDF files title in Goodreader or Save to PDF, then transfer it to iBooks the file shows up in IBooks with the title, UNTITLED. Has anyone else experienced this?

    I change the title of certain files I use for work in Goodreader or Save to PDF then transfer to iBooks for use. All of a sudden no matter what I name the file it turns up in iBooks as UNTITLED. Anyone know why?

    If you add the files to the Books section of your iTunes library, then change the title field by right-clicking and 'Get Info' and then sync it, it should display correctly in iBooks' Library view.
    However, in my experience, it's best that the filename matches the document name as it's the filename (minus the .pdf) that displays as an overlay when you're in Read view.
