F4235 Can't scan to text file though I did a custom installation of OCR

Several hours of frustration have driven me to write. I am trying to scan a text into my computer (MacMini with OS 10.9.3) - I can scan it in as a PDF, but I would like to edit it in my Open Office program. I have not been successful. What am I doing incorrectly?

Hello Dan,
When you scan to PDF, can you select and search for words in the document or is it just an image? If it's just an image inside the PDF your OCR solution is not working properly.

  • Browser can't find a text file opened via the save as dialogue box

    Hi there,
    I have a servlet which outputs a file using the servlet output stream, with the following lines set:
    response.setContentType("application/msword");
    response.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachement; filename="+ fileName);
    servletOutStream.write(myBytes);
    servletOutStream.flush();
    It works fine for .doc files and it seems the mechanism is that it is saved to the Temporary Internet Folder and delivered from there when the user clicks on the 'open' or 'save' option in the browser popup dialogue box. However... when I try this with text files, (setting the content type to "text/plain") I get the open/save dialogue box up correctly but if I try to open the file it says it cannot find the file, and gives the path under the Temporary Interenet Folder. If I look in there the text file isn't present - though the .doc files are.
    So... it looks as if the problem is that for some reason it doesn't save the text files correctly to the Temporary Internet Folder.
    I can't deliver the text files inline as a solution as the filename is lost and it thinks it's an html file (which the client doesn't want).
    Any ideas?
    Alison

    At least also set the content length. Your browser may be configured be the default application to open textfiles. If the contentlength is not set, then most applications would refuse to open the file without choosing for 'Save' first and manually open it.

  • Want to scan to text file on hp oj8600, software indicates only pdf or jpg file creation

    want to scan to text file on hp oj8600, software indicates can do. However printer system software only allows pdf or jpg file type creation.

    Hello @Richf95,
    Welcome to the HP forums.
    I understand that you are trying to save scans as a text file.
    I would like to help.
    PDF has become the standard file type used when scanning/saving a document.
    Most printers will not have text as a default option.
    Try the following:
    Open the HP scan utility
    In the lower left hand corner select 'Create New Shortcut...'
    Name your new short cut. I went with Text.
    In the next window select the file tab.
    In the drop down menu, select Text.
    This should create a shortcut that will allow you to save scans as a .txt file.

  • I can´t edit the text files with SAP BODS 3.2

    Hello
    I can not edit some text files 9-20 megabytes to replace two words in each file, the source is a text file and the same destination but with different name, because with the same name have been unable . My idea is to remove the original and stay with the new performing edition but that if he does , let me file this way:
    SALES_ORDERS_FULL_20140223_150051_006.xml ( ORIGINAL )
    should leave it with me so : SALES_ORDERS_FULL_20140223_150051_006.xml _OLD (AMENDED )
    but strangely leaves me so :
    MICROSOFT_SQL_SERVER_KCC-BI_REPO_KHSA_XI_REPO_KHSA_XI_1543_5434_2_3_Long_INVOICES_INCREMENTAL_20140225_034004_001_xml_dat.txt  (not deseased)
    The type of data you use is long since varchar not allow me because it cuts my data file , use varchar (50000000) but takes the information and short .
    I am using long data type , modify the file and I pass the name of the text files of sap bods for global variables. They are a series of files that are called by a while loop
    Thanks for your answers
    regards

    HIr
    Yes, first I convert long_to_varchar for edit, and convert varchar_to_long.
    I edit before before and later

    I'm creating an epk and I need to add a bio to the menu.  Can I import the text file or do I need to retype the bio somewhere?  What is the best way to proceed?

    Electronic Press Kit.
    Usually in the form of video outtakes, movie trailers, cast and crew interviews. Basically, the stuff that gets bunged onto commercial DVDs as extras or ends up on late night TV "Making Of..." shows.
    To answer the OP, you want a button on the menu that leads to a still image, or series of them, set up as a slide show. You can copy/paste the text in DVD Studio and then add formatting via the Text menu. (Highlight the text and right click to access formatting controls). Or do it in a graphics application using the appropriate video image preset.

  • Can I Export to Text File?

    hi,
    can i export my ical events to a text file?
    thanks.
    samantha

    I have figured out a way to do this with free available programs:
    Download this program:
    http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/faview.html
    Faview will allow the bookmarks exported in html format to be saved as a text file. This text file is in a uniform state.
    Open the text file with a spreadsheet program. I used the free program called spread32.exe that can be found anywhere on the internet.
    Highlight all the columns and do a sort by Column A. The urls will now be in alphabetical order at the bottom of the spreadsheet. Cut and paste into a new text file.

    What I wanna do is to read all the data above and buffer them in a queue for each user( there are only 10 users in total).
    I already created a class called Class packet:
    public class packet {
        private int timestamp;
        private int user_id;
        private int packet_id;
        private int packet_seqno;
        private int packet_size;
        /** Creates a new instance of packet */
        public packet(int timestamp,int user_id, int packet_id,int packet_seqno, int packet_size)
            this.timestamp = timestamp;
            this.user_id=user_id;
            this.packet_id=packet_id;
            this.packet_seqno=packet_seqno;
            this.packet_size=packet_size;
    }then I wanna to create another Class called Class user which I can create a queue for each user (10 users in total) to store type packet information. the queue for each user will be in the order by timestamp.
    any idea and sample code will be appreciated.

    Doesn't sound too hard to me. Your class User (the convention says to capitalize class names) will have an ArrayList or Vector in it to represent the queue, and a method to store a Packet object into the List. An array or ArrayList or Vector will hold the 10 user objects. You will find the right user object from packet.user_id and call the method.
    Please try to write some code yourself. You won't learn anything from having someone else write it for you. Look at sample code using ArrayList and Vector, there's plenty out there. Post in the forum again if your code turns out not to behave.

  • How can I write to text file colorful texts

    I save system events in a text file,for example when system give warning message i want to write it red

    As others have mentioned, if you want to view text in different colors with an viewer/editor tool outside of LabVIEW, you must provide the necessary formatting for that tool.
    If it works for your application to view the file using LabVIEW you can do this:
    1) Place a unique key in each line that identifies an error.
    2) Display the text in a Listbox and color each line based on that unique key.
    You can fairly easily provide a stand alone viewer if needed.
    This technique can also be expanded to provide multiple colors.

  • Can't read a text file using java

    Hi All
    I am trying to read a log file.
    ProgramA keeps updating the log file, while my program ProgramB reads it.
    For some readson my ProgramB is not able to read the last two lines in the log file. If I run the program in debug mode it is reading all the lines.
    This is having me frustrated.
    Please let me know if there is a way to read entire contents.
    Here is how I am reading the files ( 2ways)
         private static String readFileAsString(String filePath)
        throws java.io.IOException{
            StringBuffer fileData = new StringBuffer(1000);
            FileReader fr = new FileReader(filePath);
            BufferedReader reader = new BufferedReader(fr);
            char[] buf = new char[1024];
            int numRead=0;
            while((numRead=reader.read(buf)) != -1){
                String readData = String.valueOf(buf, 0, numRead);
                fileData.append(readData);
                buf = new char[1024];
            reader.close();
            fr.close();
            return fileData.toString();
           * Fetch the entire contents of a text file, and return it in a String.
           * This style of implementation does not throw Exceptions to the caller.
           * @param aFile is a file which already exists and can be read.
           static public String readFileAsString(String filePath) {
             //...checks on aFile are elided
             StringBuffer contents = new StringBuffer();
             //declared here only to make visible to finally clause
             BufferedReader input = null;
             try {
               //use buffering, reading one line at a time
               //FileReader always assumes default encoding is OK!
               input = new BufferedReader( new FileReader(filePath) );
               String line = null; //not declared within while loop
               * readLine is a bit quirky :
               * it returns the content of a line MINUS the newline.
               * it returns null only for the END of the stream.
               * it returns an empty String if two newlines appear in a row.
               while (( line = input.readLine()) != null){
                 contents.append(line);
                 contents.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
             catch (FileNotFoundException ex) {
               ex.printStackTrace();
             catch (IOException ex){
               ex.printStackTrace();
             finally {
               try {
                 if (input!= null) {
                   //flush and close both "input" and its underlying FileReader
                   input.close();
               catch (IOException ex) {
                 ex.printStackTrace();
             return contents.toString();
           }

    If you're using JDK 5 or later, you could use the Scanner class for input information. See below:
    try {
                   Scanner reader = new Scanner(new File("C:\\boot.ini"));
                   StringBuilder sb = new StringBuilder();
                   while (reader.hasNextLine()) {
                        sb.append(reader.nextLine());
                        sb.append(System.getProperty("line.separator"));
                   System.out.println(sb.toString());
              } catch (FileNotFoundException e) {
                   e.printStackTrace();
              }

  • How can i insert the text file in a hashSet???

    Hi, here's the code to feed the text file into the program, i need to put the words from the text file into a hashSet, im not too sure how to go about doing this, can anyone help please?
    import java.io.*;
    public class FileIn {
    BufferedReader in;
    public FileIn() {
    try {
    in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("\\C:\\Program Files\\java.txt\\"));
    String line = in.readLine();
    System.out.println(line);
    in.close();
    } catch(IOException ioe) {
    System.out.println(ioe.toString());
    public static void main(String args[]) {
    FileIn newFile = new FileIn();
    }

    First you need to break each line into words. You'll need to decide on your rules for doing that. A simple approach would be to just break on whitespace. This assumes there are no hyphenated words at the end of a line. You'll also want to strip out punctuation.
    Once you've got a word (or an array of them, if you used String.split), then just iterate over it and call HashSet.add for each one. There might even be a helper function in java.util.Arrays or java.util.Collections or in HashSet to add everything from an array.

  • How can I save a text file to disk from Illustrator ?

    Hi,
    I was looking through the Javascript reference and couldn't find anything related to writing strings to a text file on disk.
    Is this possible ? If so where should I look ?
    Otherwise, can I run a bit of code in Terminal/CommandPrompt from Illustrator (.e.g. echo 'Hello!' >> file.txt) ?

    Here's something that I think Muppet Mark or Carlos Canto posted earlier
    #target illustrator
    var textFile = File('~/Desktop/AI.txt');
    var doc = app.activeDocument;
    var docText = '';
    for (var i = 0; i < doc.textFrames.length; i++)
              docText += doc.textFrames[i].contents + '\r';
    textFile.open('e');
    textFile.write(docText);
    textFile.close();

  • How can I read a text file inside the .xsjs?

    I need to read line by line of a text file just like FileReader and BufferedReader in Java. It contains a script SQL to insert data in my DB. Can I use some API?

    There is no API that allows you to access the file system of the server in XSJS. You would need to upload the file from the client side and it will appear as a array buffer in the request object.  From there you can convert the array buffer to a string and process however you like.
    For example:
      var content = "";
        content = $.request.body.asArrayBuffer();
        var array = new Uint8Array(content);
        var encodedString = String.fromCharCode.apply(null,array),
             decodedString = decodeURIComponent(escape(encodedString));
            content = decodedString;
        var lines = content.split(/\r\n|\n/);

    Hi,
    Yes it is certainly possible and there a number of ways to achieve it.
    It will be achieved in a pretty straight forward interface, you can ignore the first few lines in your file datastorre ( you could even read them lines in and set variables, personally I would set variables based on the first 3 lines and then use the variables in the interface)
    The rest will be simple mappings in the interface, you could hard code some of the values into the target mapping or use variables which would be better, if you are going to use variables then you will need to use a package, declare/refresh/set them and add the interface.
    Cheers

  • Where can i find my text files?

    I am working in a xaml app and am trying to make a text file, and then open it in like note pad. My code does not give me any errors but I can't find the file any where. Here is what I have:
            async void test()
                StorageFolder folder = Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.Current.LocalFolder;
                StorageFile sampleFile = await folder.CreateFileAsync("sample.txt", CreationCollisionOption.ReplaceExisting);
                await Windows.Storage.FileIO.WriteTextAsync(sampleFile, "Swift as a shadow");
    I don't know if I can't find it or it is just not being made.
    Thank You for your time.

    Hi TomatoMan,
    A better way to find where the StorageFile points is to examine its Path in the debugger after calling CreateFileAsync. The path Anne mentions is common, but it is not correct for all systems.
    It should exist for your original app so long as the app hasn't been removed. This isn't the appx package itself, this is the application data. The app package will be in the Package.InstalledLocation and is not writeable (in production- it may
    be for a test app running from the VS project directory).
    The app data location shouldn't be exposed to users, but is only available through the app. If you want the user to be able to find the document outside of the app then you should use a FileSavePicker to let the user choose where to save it.
    If you want to programmatically open the file you can call
    Launcher.LaunchFileAsync with the sampleFile StorageFile object.
