FaceTime (and Photo Booth) do not recognize my internal camera

I don't believe I have made any substantive changes to my system but my camera is no longer recognized on my iMac (late 2009, 10.8.2).  Facetime is working on my MacAir and iPhone.  It isn't working on the computer as I tried another account.
It just stopped.  Any ideas?

If it doesn't work in multiple applications and in multiple users then it's either a general OS issue or a HW issue.
I would turn off the Mac and reset the SMC and PRAM and see if you get any better luck. If not then you could also try booting to Safe Mode and testing it there. If none of that works then you skip right ahead and reinstall the OS (won't affect your files but make sure you have a backup just incase). If after all of that it still doesn't work then you may want to look at getting it into a store for some diagnostics.

  • Facetime and Photo Booth will not work in my regular user account.

The camera is not recognized.  In Facetime preferences is greyed out.  If I switch accounts it works fine. What now?

If it works with the other account, the Flash Player is installed and able to work properly.
There's something with the admin account that's blocking it.
What that could be, is not possible to troubleshoot in a forum environment, unfortunately.

  • Camera app won't work camera works (FaceTime and photo booth, etc) but not in camera mode what is wrong and howmdominfix?

When I open the camera app all I get is a black screen. If I choose FaceTime or photo booth it works just fine so camera itself is fine. It seems to be the app that is not fine.
What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Quit the camera app completely and then try it again..
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the task bar will appear with all of your recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button.
    Try the camera app again.

  • Video on skype not workin only in facetime and photo booth appears to be a common problem amongst user with a recently bought macbook air

Video on skype not working. Only functioning in facetime and photo booth. Seems to be a common problem amongst users having bought a new macbook air recently. When you go to Preference and click on audio/video item video works but when clicking on another menue and returning to audio/videio picture is gone. Understand has something to do with a recent update von Apple (10.8.5... missing file for 32 bit version).
Anybody there to give me an advice?
    Thanks.

Wait until a fix is available from Apple or Skype.
    Best.

  • I've deleted FaceTime and photo booth how do reinstall

I've deleted FaceTime and photo booth and can't seem to reinstall them.ive looked in app store the ones that came with my iPad are not on there! How can I reinstall deleted apps please help x

Try this as well - go to Settings>General>Restrictions. If you turned on restrictions you may have disabled those apps - or at least Facetime - and they/it will not appear on the iPad until you turn off the restrictions.
You will not lose anything if your restart your iPad.
Swipe to the right from your first home screen to get to the iPad Spotlight search. Type in FaceTime or PhotoBooth and hit go on the keyboard. If they show up - you will know they are on the iPad somewhere.

  • No video for my FaceTime and photo booth,

No video for my facetime and photo booth.

    Hi,
First restart you computer  (if iChat is set to start when the Computer starts up then Disable this)
If that does not work go to iChat > Preferences > Video section and set the Bandwidth Limit to 500kbps
Mostly this tends to be about Internet Speed or what iChat thinks you have.
Make sure you are not doing any Downloads or another computer is doing so (there is never an equal split on the internet Bandwidth between different devices)

when open FaceTime and photo booth ,it shows no camera connection

As just said there is no built in camera in the mac pro, so just what kind of "built in" camera are you talking about?  Apple's 27" LED "built-in" camara?

Photo Booth will not open.  My camera works well with other apps.

try running it in either 32 or 64bit mode and see if this changes the experience. Locate the icon in Finder, right click "get-info" on it and see the checkmarks "run in 32bit mode" ..
on Lion some users had trouble opeining pb when "iglasses" was installed, also a thing to check.
Else repair permissions of the disk, using Apples disk utility app.

  • Installing a Google Apps mail account as an Exchange cause Camera FaceTime and Photo Booth to disappear from the Deskotp and are not retrievable. A deletion of the mail account returns the functions immediately

Brand ne iPad 3. Installing a Google Apps mail account as Exchange kills my Camera, Face Time and Photo Booth. They disappear from the Desktop and are nowhere to find or retrieve. Deleting the mail accoun t brings them back immediately. I have already full reset the device and updated the software with no result.
    Is there a solution?

Yep, Meg, you were right and here are the steps which cure the issue. Disable camera is actually a basic Google Apps setting .
Log in to your Google Apps Control Panel.
    Click on your 'Settings' tab.
Under the 'Org Settings' tab locate 'Mobile Settings/Device Settings'
    Enable 'Allow camera'.
    Save changes.
    Re-Install Google Apps E-mail account
    It works perfectly fine now.
Footy, my cat, sends you nice regards as well.

  • TS5216 Can not find camera in facetime and photo booth after the update of 10.8.5(12F45)

I can use it before but after get it update, the MBA cant find the camera.

After the original (flawed) update to OS X 10.8.5 was installed, the internal camera of a 2013 MacBook Air would not work in Skype and some other third-party applications. The flaw was fixed in a supplemental update. However, if you followed some questionable advice that was circulating on this site to hack your system before installing the supplemental update, then it will not restore camera functionality; in fact, the camera won't work at all. The solution in that case, most likely, is to install the 10.8.5 Combo update.
In the future, I suggest you ignore advice to hack your system by replacing, removing, or changing built-in system components.

I haven't used my built-in webcam recently, but when I tried to use FaceTime, the screen is showing bright red with no video. The Photo Booth shows the same thing. Any ideas or fixes?

  • Mail, preview, photo booth, will not open

After installing Leopard (on my 3rd attempt, clean install) mail, preview, and photo booth will not open at all. i'm opening them from the applications folder, not from the dock. i get an error message that says the programs unexpectedly quit. hopefully i don't have to do another installation. 3 is enough.
i thought it was interesting that these 3 programs are in order alphabetically, and every other program has opened fine.
    any help/ideas would be great

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
You might check whether this is a preference corruption issue. For example, you can find the Mail preference file in [Username]/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
Drag this file to your desktop (so you don't lose it). Then try relaunching Mail. If that works, a similar process might fix your problem with the other applications, too.
Please post back here if that helps. If it does, please mark this posting as having "Solved" your question. Thanks

  • Reinstalling Front Row and Photo Booth?

    Hi,
I had a hard drive failure a couple of months ago on my 20" G5 iMac. The Apple store replaced it in a day and reinstalled the OS. Thanks. Only after I had my entire computer set back up with all my apps, music, movies, etc., I realized that Front Row, and Photo Booth were not installed. How can I get them back on my machine without reinstalling the OS again? I tried Pacifier, but I don't know all of the different files and packages needed to intsall those two apps. Anyone know of a different solution?
    Thanks

Hey there ... Go search for a program called Pacifist. Its a shareware but it will let you do the job. I used it before to Install Mail which I accidently trashed it. It should absolutely work for Front Row too. Hope this will solve your problem. Sawadee Krub

  • Went to use Facetime and my MB Pro said there was no camera available.

Hi, I tried to use Face Time and my MBPro said there was no camera available.  Same thing happened when I tried to use Photo Booth.  Any ideas?
    Thanks.

FaceTime and Photo Booth both require the built in iSight camera.

Facetime, Appstore and Photo booth not working OS X

I would recommend first doing a PRAM reset. You can find instructions for that in https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3603.
Please let us know if that works or not, there are several other things you can try.
