"FaceTime Failed"

I have been trying to FaceTime with my MacBook Pro and contacting my friends Ipad.  It worked great until two days ago.  Now when either of us try to call one another we the same problem occurs.  FaceTime will ring and when accept is selected it errors "facetime failed".  We have both tried trouble shooting and made sure our systems were up to date.  Can anyone help me fix this?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this test is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The "Guest User" login created by "Find My Mac" is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.

  • FaceTime Failed: Calls between iPod Touch and Macbook Pro

when i try to place a call to someone who has FaceTime on an iPod Touch, she says she doesn't receive any calls and i get eventually get a "FaceTime failed" after a few rings. if the other party calls me (i'm using MacBook Pro with OSX Lion 10.7.1) and i answer, at first, it will say "Connecting..." then it will then show a "FaceTime failed". We both powered off our devices to no avail. Any ideas?

    Somehow, it just fixed itself.

  • FaceTime failed - why?

I am running FaceTime on MacBook which is running Lion 10.7.3.
I can't get FaceTime to connect. I have tried various changes to Firewall settings, logging out and in of FaceTime, checking clock settings and still no joy.
My Wi-fi connection is running fine
I have a 9MB download speed and 0.82MB upload speed
My brother is on a new iPad and can FaceTime other people but when ever we try to FaceTime each other it rings on the device and tries to connect, but then says "FaceTime failed"
    PLease please please help

    This solved my problem...
I took some advice to add a new (unregistered with apple) email address to my facetime account.
I did this and was asked to login with my registered email and password.
    I then got the dreaded
"The server encountered an error procssing registeration, please try again later " issue that so many others were getting.
I then folowed this thread which solved the problem.

basically I had to comment out some extra server rows I had in my host file. Then a restart was required.

Welcome to Discussions, Bebjan +(and Kerato, too)+
    (1) iPhone 4 requires iOS 4.1 or later to place or receive FaceTime calls with a person using an iPod touch (4th generation). Update your iOS *if you are still using iOS 4 as shown in your posted system info or anything else less than 4.1.*
    (2) If your iPhone is already updated, the first thing to check is your wi-fi connections. Try connecting to several of your iPod friends from your Apple retailer's store, an internet cafe, or some other wi-fi location known to offer FaceTime-compatible wi-fi connections.
*If you can connect from more than one other location but FaceTime continues to fail at your home wi-fi network*, use the Troubleshooting suggestions in
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4319
to troubleshoot your home wi-fi network. If your wi-fi network is the problem, and if you want to manually open ports instead of merely enabling UP-n-P, see this article:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4245
    (3) *If your problem is the same at more than two wi-fi locations*, try restarting or resetting your phone:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
    (4) *If nothing else works*, see your retailer to have your phone checked. It may need service.

you have a ps cs4 license for mac and you have some way of finding your serial number.
if yes, download an install the installation file.  if you already have the installation file, what is its name and file extension?  (eg, if it's one file, it should be a dmg file.)
if you need the installation file,

help. tried for first time to use FaceTime with another iPhone user & call refused to connect. Call would dial, allow us to accept call, then error message "FaceTime failed" would appear & call disconnect. we are both on wi-fi networks, both phones have updated software & both enabled FaceTime with iTunes logged in. don't know what else to do to get FaceTime to connect. Someone please help.

Thanks Helen for the response. At least you can get some of the contacts to work. Absolutely none of mine will. Feel like my phone is cheating me out something it should do. Think I'm going to just have to dump all the Apple products in general because this phone hasn't worked right since I got it.

  • Keep getting "FaceTime failed" when trying to make calls from my iMac

I am trying to make FaceTime calls from my  iMac.
So far it has not worked at all. No matter what number I try to call (I am calling people who have FaceTime enabled iPhones), it rings for a while and then I get "FaceTime failed".
Any ideas what it could be?

  • FaceTime fails with "WiFi Connection Lost"

My Google skills haven't found any matches for this, but perhaps others have seen it in passing at least.
I've noticed recently that I've been having problems with FaceTime calls to a friend of mine. For the past month since he got his iPhone 4, he'd end up losing the WiFi connection, but now it's happening to me, too.
The symptom is that the FaceTime call will be going fine for a while, and then it will just hang with no motion in the picture from the other phone for about 10 seconds, then the phone will beep and display this error:
    FaceTime Failed
    WiFi Connection Lost
    <OK>
At this point, I find that my WiFi indicator in the status bar is gone and replaced with "3G". It has indeed lost its connection to the WiFi access point (a Time Capsule).
Going into the iPhone's settings, I see that it shows there that it is still connected to my WiFi network (showing a checkmark next to my WiFi network name, although it still says "3G" at the top). Cycling WiFi off and back on corrects the problem.
My friend is also using his iPhone 4 connected to a Time Capsule, so we have similar setups. I'm beginning to wonder whether there's some problem either in iOS 4 or the Time Capsule that causes the wireless connection between them to disconnect in an aberrant fashion.
So, anyone else seen or heard of this?

FaceTime connection problems on my iPad2 was magically solved by changing the DNS number (in the Settings > Wi-Fi menus) to:
    208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220
(yes, there is a space after the comma, and a space after the numbers 7)
I recommend that you write down your present DNS number for safekeeping before you make this change.
I hope this solves your FaceTime connection problem!
    All the best,
    Brad P.

  • Why does FaceTime suddenly say "FaceTime Failed" just after connecting?

    1. I place a Facetime video call.
    2. The call rings.
    3. The call screen says "connecting"
    4. The "connecting" message goes away (this normally happens just before the other party's video clicks on)
    5. The call screen remains silent with my webcam on and then reads "FaceTime Failed"
This is a problem. Please help.
    Thank you

    Thanks Shananigan,
I'll add that to my list of fixes to try tonight. Will that diagnose if it's my setup or theirs?
    * Fixes I've tried:
    - Restarting my machine (haven't tried both machines yet)
    - Software is up to date (running Mavericks OSX 10.9.1)
    * Fixes I'll try soon:
    - Restarting both machines
    - Double check WiFi fan for connectivity
    - Try to FaceTime call someone else
    * Outcomes
    - Restarting my machine only (no change)
    - Updating software (software is up to date) (no change)
    - Double check WiFi fan for connectivity (PENDING)
    - Restarting both machines (PENDING)
    - Try to FaceTime call someone else (PENDING)
