Facevook sharing in iWeb

I'm definitely a layperson in dealing with web design. I hardly ever use iWeb but for the most part I get what I need.
I've been pulling my hair out over this. I've googled it, found answers that were supposed to help, but in the end its not.
I'm using the "HTML Snippet" to insert the code from facebook share generator, and have 2 problems.
1) The button shows up in my browser when I launch the file locally, but not when accessing on the web. I've deleted the site & reuploaded, republished locally & reuploaded, a dozen times with the same result. This makes no sense to me.
2) How do I customize what info get posted via the "Share" button? I've tried editing the META tags in text edit, but I'm seeing no change when I try the button. Facebook says to edit the name & description tags, but which ones? Of course with the problem above, I'm only trying the button locally since that's the only place I can get the button to show up.
Does anyone have any example code that shows which tags get edited for "Facebook Share" customization?
Thanks in advance for any help - I'm so close but it feels so far.....

I'm still having a lot of trouble customizing the data that gets shared when the button is pressed. Any tips on where to put info for this is appreciated. I've tried editing the top level index page, the page the button is on, and nothing ever changes when I press the share button.
I did get the button showing up on the web though. I'm guessing it was a browser cache issue, but that's just a guess.

  • Bad Quality When Sharing with iWEB

    Sorry if this is posted somewhere on here. I could not find it.
    I am having a problem with real choppy video when sharing with iWEB. My videos when viewed on my website are very blurry to the point that you can not see faces. Any help would be most welcome.

    I am importing from miniDV. I believe it is HD, not sure if that matters or not. I recorded a clip off of the cam into iMovie. I added a soundtrack and a few sound effects. I saved my project and then shared it with iWEB. It is now on my website but just real blurry and the sound effect don't hit at the right times. It is perfect when view in iMovie (great picture quality). I also shared the same movie with iTunes and noticed, while better then iWeb, it is still not as good as when viewing in iMovie. Thanks for any help

  • Sharing My IWeb Pages

    I posted my resume on iWeb and when I originally finished the webpage, iWeb allowed me to announce the web page through Apple Mail and attached within the e-mail the name of my webpage that hyperlinked anyone that clicked on my name to the webpage that I sent the e-mail to.
    Now I want to send it to other people and so I thought that I could simply goto my .mac main homepage and share it just like you can with putting files on homepage within .mac. However if I goto My Pages(third column down on the left handside of .mac homeage) and click on my resume page it will load but not allow me to share or announce it in an e-mail again. Is there a way to make this happen through .mac without going through iWeb? Or do I need to move my resume page to .mac's homepage in order to make sharing it easier through .mac?
    Thanks for your help.

    Lee,
    Thanks for the compliment on my site and "Pastoral Dreamer"
    I'm not sure how to answer your question on the size of the site.
    If I check the site's folder size (on my iDisk) with "get info" it says I'm using 68mb of space.
    If I check the folder size of the same site published to my hard drive it says 116mg. As far as my account goes, I have the basic $99.00 a year plan and it seems to be plenty.
    I hope this answers your question, if not ask me again.

  • Sharing selective iWeb sites through DropBox

    Okay, iWeb rocks.
    Dropbox rocks.
    I am using a consultant to work with me on our company's web site. We both have Macs and iWeb. We both use DropBox.
    I know that I can share the domain.sites2 file (or a copy of it) in our mutually shared DropBox, but here's the deal.
    As a consultant, she manages multiple web sites for her clients. So inside of HER iWeb, she has her own web site for her own company, and she has the web site of another client with whom she works.
    We're trying to figure out how to use DropBox to share only those portions of her domain.sites2 file that pertain to to the specific client. I.e., she doesn't want me to be able to edit her  and her other clients' web pages, and I don't want her clients to edit my pages.
    But the domain.sites2 file contains multiple web sites.
    How do you share a domain.sites2 file in such a way that you can select which web site is shared with which Dropbox client?
    Or what's the work-around?
    We tried making a copy of her domain.sites2 file, then "show contents" and then delete the folders that hold the other two web sites in it. But I could still see those sites when she put domain.sites2 in the dropbox.
    I look forward to a successful, favorable answer! ;-)

    Okay, changing the publishing settings (from FTP to Local) enabled the deletion of the sites in the copy.
    BUT WARNING: You must first make a copy of the domain.sites2 file that is sitting in the dropbox AND move that copy out of the dropbox onto some other part of your computer.  I say this because:
    1. The consultant made a copy of her original file (that had the multiple sites in it).
    2. She moved the COPY into the dropbox folder on her computer.
    3. She went into that copy and changed the publishing settings to Local.
    4. Just out of curiousity, she went back to her original file and checked the settings. THEY TOO had been changed to local. WHY???? Why would changes made to a COPY in the Dropbox result in changes to the original in the iWeb folder (that even had a different name)?  Seeing this, the consultant was too afraid to delete the sites from the copy in the Drop Box.
    The only way we found around this was for me at step 3 above to first make a copy of the file that was in dropbox, pull that copy out of dropbox onto MY computer, open it and change publishing to local, and then *I* delete the sites that were not mine.
    So that's really not a solution.
    I also have another problem, but I'll start a new topic for that.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Photo Sharing in iWeb.

    Why is it that you can only lock the photo sharing for a photos page and not a welcome page or a blog page? This is stupid. You should be able to lock all photos if you want. Why has Apple disable this feature for a Welcome or a Blog page? There are photos one can use on those types of pages that can be equally pirated, and I don't like any of my photos being shared, no matter what size they are. I want the control of NOT sharing any of them.

    There is no way to prevent anyone from getting a copy of a photo that's in a web page. The photos page just prevents downloading the photo files that were used in the slideshow but not from making a screenshot of them`.
    Any screenshot of a photo will be at the pixel dimension as seen on the screen and 72 dpi resolution and can be printed as a quality photo only at a very small size.
    The best way to show ownership of a photo is to put a watermark on each photo like this example . It was done with Photoshop. There are a number of watermarking applications available. Go to VersionTracker.com and search for "watermark" to get a list of possible candidates.

  • Sharing with iWeb

    I share my podcast with iWeb, but when I visit the site the podcast doesn't show. It only shows with a broken quicktime logo, and won't play (obviously). I've installed the latest version of quicktime, and haven't found how to fix it. What can I do to have this podcast work properly?

  • Two people sharing one iWeb-site and contributing?

    Is there any possiblities in iWeb for me and my brother to create an photoalbum with iWeb and share the same photoalbum from different .mac-accounts?
    Tip me of other solutions if not possible Thnx.

    Not easily without some extra messing around with files behind the scenes.
    Have you tried flickr? http://www.flickr.com Many people swear by this site and, since it's internet based instead of being based on a file in your computer, you can place photos there from multiple users logging into the same account.

  • File sharing with iWeb

    iWeb was very cool about creating and publishing a page for my Mexico vacation pictures, but the files there appear to be a reduced resolution version for screen/web use, which if fine for that purpose but not to trade files with the rel's. I published the native files from my iDisk Public folder via HomePage and that works too, but now I have two URLs to pass along and somewhere two copies of the files.
    What I'd like is to find a way to fileshare my iDisk Public folder (or Pictures folder) via iWeb so there could be one "look" and one URL but that doesn't seem to be one of the choices in the templates - is there a way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Michael
    MacBook 2GHz Core Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   Dual USB iBook, MacBook 2.0 Duo2, ruby iMac (Windows-free home since 1984)

    Progress, but now the problem is that while http://idisk.mac.com/username-Public gets a guest to my Public folder, at least in WinXP (my rel's haven't seen the light yet) the window that opens only has room to show about 20 files AND DOESN'T SCROLL in any way I can find. Yes, there are more than 20 pics to share. How dumb is this?

  • Sharing the iweb website creation between two macs in the same house?

    I have an imac. Just purchased a macbook for the wife that arrives tomorrow. She wants to be able to update our website using her imac (a website I've started and maintained on the imac).
    My question is...is it possible to "sync" the iweb application or to otherwise let her have access to the same info I see on the imac so she may update the site as well from her own mac?
    We are connected in the house via a wireless network.
    Thanks.

  • Sharing with iWeb from iMovie- 2 questions

    I asked this question in iMovie forum and was told to repost here:
    I was wondering where the quick time file goes when you choose "share with iWeb" locally. I have been able to find it on the iDisk, but thought it possibly was saved locally too.
    Also - I'm extremely confused with iWeb when viewing the pages it creates through Internet Explorer on Windows based PC's. I am able to see it on 25% of PC's, hear it on another 25% of PC's, and on 50% can't see or hear it. I have done searching and found no concrete reason why this is. I have updated the QT player, updated IE, and also gone into settings and allowed QT to be the default for all file types it wants. Any ideas?

    ezweeb:
    The movie files is copied into the Domain.sites file that's located in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. That is the most important file of your site. It contains all of the building blocks of your site and if it gets damaged or deleted you'll have to start from scratch to recreate your site.
    I strongly suggest you download and use varkgirl's Automator application to backup the Domain.sites file every time you make any changes to the site. You can get it here.
    Many of the PC browsers do not handle the png files that iWeb uses frequently. The following are a number of tips I've gathered from this forum on how to help avoid creating png files and making the sites more compatible with the darkside.
    1 - do not use and frames or borders, etc. around photos.
    2 - don't use any reflections.
    3 - create your own navigation bar with linked text* and turn of the iWeb Navigation bar. That's because the nav bar is all png based.
    *Put your linked text directly under the Navigation bar. Then turn off the nav bar in the Inspector window. The nav bar will disappear and the linked text will move up to the top of the page.
    4 - use only the web safe fonts from the Font pane.
    5 - do not use drop shadow on fonts.
    6 - turn off smart quotes
    7 - if you add a jpg to a page don't resize it in iWeb as that will cause it to be converted to png. Resize it to what you need before adding to the page..
    The above will reduce the number and size of files associated with a web page quite a bit. Photos with fancy frames and reflections can generate a thumbnail png of around 110KB whereas the plain version will be a jpg of only 28KB. Although it doesn't sound like a lot, it will speed up loading of the page and be more darkside (i.e. PC) friendly.
    Run a test with a test site and publish to a folder. Then follow the hints above and publish to another folder and compare folders.
    This site will show you how IE 7, 6 and 5.5 will display your site. I don't have access to a PC to determine how accurately it renders a site as Internet Explorer would. But you can try it out.

  • How To Change Hyperlinks And Nav Menu Colors

    I continue to see people stating that it's impossible to change hyperlink colors and navigation menu colors until after you publish your site. This is not true. It's quite easy to update your templates with the colors YOU want and when you update the template, you never have to mess with any post-processing. You make a new page? Your colors are already there.
    I've gone over this before in this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3288533&#3288533
    But I'll go over the quick and dirty version here as well. Those who want more detail can post a question and I'll elaborate.
    First, do you know how to get into iWeb's inner folders? You right click or control click on your iWeb icon and select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu.
    Step 2
    Once you've done that, you'll see a new Finder window that shows a folder called Contents. Open that and then open the next folder Resources. Within Resources there's a folder named Shared. Open the Shared folder.
    You're now looking at your collection of iWeb template files. You'll notice that each template has seven individual page files - each file defines the layout and styles for the page for which its named. This is actually one of the two places where you'll find the data/images that make up your iWeb pages. This location only contains the images. Now I'll show you were to find the data file.
    So you're currently here:
    /Applications/iWeb/Contents/Resources/Shared/
    You want to go here:
    /Applications/iWeb/Contents/Resources/English.lproj
    Now if you speak another language and your Mac's system language is set to the language you speak, substitue English with that language. If your system is set to English regardless of the language you speak, and you use the English templates, then stick with the English folder.
    When you're in the English.lproj folder, you will see seven sub-folders and one file named TemplatesInfo.plist. TemplatesInfo.plist is the file that registers the templates and tells iWeb what you've got in your collection. But we don't care about that file for now. We're after the template data files.
    The seven sub-folders are aptly named for each of the seven page-types as you can see. Open the About Me folder.
    Now you will see an "about me.webtemplate" file for every template you have in your collection. Good job. You've learned something new. Move on to Step 3.
    Step 3
    If you haven't decided yet, now's the time to decide which template you'd like to update. If you're just along for the ride to learn something new, no worries. We won't do anything you can't undo.
    Pick a template file now. Perhaps you chose the White template, or:
    White About Me.webtemplate
    Right click or control click on this file and select Show Package Contents from the pop-up menu. This will launch a new Finder window that displays the contents of the White About Me.webtemplate file.
    You will likely see a handful of different files, but the file you want is the one named Index.xml.gz.
    Index.xml.gz is the brain behind the template. Within this file are all the settings for the page you chose and it's really not hard to find what you want and change it. So let's take a peek.
    Step 4
    Double-click the file Index.xml.gz. This will reveal a new file named Index.xml. You might have to scroll down in your Finder window to see it. Rename Index.xml.gz to Index.xml.gz.backup in case you screw things up, you have your original.
    Now, open Index.xml with TextEdit. Do not open the file with a code editor unless you have already formatted the file.
    When the file opens, you'll notice it's one gigantic jumbled mess of stuff. No worries, we'll straighten that out. All you need to do is a find/replace.
    Find all instances of: ><
    And replace with:
    <
    The line break is important so maybe just copy the lines right out of this post. When you replace all of those, the file will be far more easy to view.
    Assuming you've completed that step. You're basically ready to make your change and test it out! Not hard ey?
    So let's say you want to change your hyperlink color from grey to blue. Search for this string:
    BLDefaultHyperlinkCharacterStyleIdentifier0
    When you find that string, you will see a few lines below it, two lines that look similar to this:
    <sf:fontColor>
    <sf:color xsi:type="sfa:calibrated-rgb-color-type" sfa:r=".8" sfa:g="1" sfa:b="0.4" sfa:a="1"/>
    This is how the template specifies color. It's RGB100. Your Mac came with a program called Art Director's Took Kit and that application can tell you the RGB100 values for any color you want. Tinker with that and you'll have a lot of fun with this.
    So I picked out a nice royal blue for you. The RGB100 values for it are:
    R:0 G:25 B:100
    What you need to do is update the color line to match those values:
    <sf:color xsi:type="sfa:calibrated-rgb-color-type" sfa:r="0" sfa:g=".25" sfa:b="1" sfa:a="1"/>
    Notice that you specify these in terms of a percentage, where 25 became .25 and 100 became 1.
    Step 5
    Save your file. It's time to see your work in action. Open iWeb if it isn't open already and create a new page using the template you've just altered. If you altered the White About Me page, then select that and create the new page.
    It there are hyperlinks already on this page, you should already see that they reflect your new color. If there aren't any hyperlinks, then type some text and create one. You should see your new link color right away!
    Now if you don't see the new color, either you picked the wrong page or you neglected to rename the Index.xml.gz file a few steps back. If you did not rename that file, then it's still in control of your template. Rename it now and try again.
    If you don't like that color, simply swap back to the TextEdit page and change it until you like it - switching back and forth between the file and iWeb to view your changes. Once you're happy, make note of the color you chose and make the change for the remaining six pages in the tempalte you selected. Just be sure to follow the steps for each page you edit. If you fail to see your change, again, check to see that you renamed Index.xml.gz.
    Side Notes
    For the more technical, rather than editing an existing template, you might want to duplicate and rename a template. This essentially creates a brand new one. If you're pretty good within Finder then go for it, just be sure that you duplicate the files in both locations:
    /Applications/iWeb/Contents/Resources/Shared/
    /Applications/iWeb/Contents/Resources/English.lproj/...
    Choose a unique name for the duplicated template and change every single file so that the new name replaces the old one. You would have to register this new template in the TemplatesInfo.plist file as well, but I'm not going to get into that here.
    The thread I referenced at the top has all kinds of search terms to find the other hyperlink styles (rollover and visited) and all the navigation menu styles plus a bunch of other fun stuff.
    Now, it seems long, but that's because I wrote it well. The shortest version of this I've ever written was two sentences, but that was for a UNIX geek and he got it. It's just as easy for you, but I write it out so that anyone can do this, because anyone can. It's just not hard.
    If you have questions about any of the steps, go ahead and ask.

    Good. Okay here's how to apply a background color to your nav bar buttons. For example, my Aerolite template sets the selected page to a black background color. The rollover effect uses a gradient fill. I'll describe both of those here.
    First, here are the navigation menu search terms:
    navbaritem-style-normal-default
    navbaritem-style-rollover-default
    navbaritem-style-selected-default
    navbar-pargraph
    The first three set the button effects and text colors. The last one there sets the font, font size and other paragraph styles.
    To change the selected page button background color, or gradient or image, first search for it using the search term above. Start from the top of the file because there are two instances of those terms, one where you can set the values, the other is only reference to the first and does not allow you to change settings.
    When you find the search term, you might want to insert an empty line above it to help separate it from the rest of the code. You can also insert an empty line below the section. The end of this style ends with:
    </sf:navbar-item-style>
    Be careful not to mix that up with </sf:navbaritem-character-style>
    Now, within this section, you'll find all kinds of settings... stroke, fill, character styles, etc. Notice you can change font color in there. But for this demo, you want to find the section that looks like this:
    <sf:fill>
    <sf:null/>
    </sf:fill>
    I'm assuming you're editing an Apple template that does not already have a fill effect. If it does have one, then your example might not look exactly like that.
    To apply a color fill, change those three lines to these lines:
    <sf:fill>
    <sf:color xsi:type="sfa:calibrated-rgb-color-type" sfa:r="0" sfa:g="0" sfa:b="0" sfa:a="1"/>
    </sf:fill>
    You can see that we've inserted the line that specifies color - something you should be familiar with by now. Here you can specify the color that will become the background of your nav bar button. This example specifies black. Easy no?
    If you would prefer a gradient fill, then replace those three lines with this:
    <sf:fill>
    <sf:angle-gradient sfa:ID="SFRAngleGradient-1111" sf:opacity="1" sf:type="linear" sf:angle="0">
    <sf:stops sfa:ID="NSMutableArray-1111">
    <sf:gradient-stop sfa:ID="SFRGradientStop-1111" sf:fraction="0">
    <sf:color xsi:type="sfa:calibrated-rgb-color-type" sfa:r="0.40" sfa:g="0.40" sfa:b="0.30" sfa:a="1"/>
    </sf:gradient-stop>
    <sf:gradient-stop sfa:ID="SFRGradientStop-2222" sf:fraction="1">
    <sf:color xsi:type="sfa:calibrated-rgb-color-type" sfa:r="0.64" sfa:g="0.66" sfa:b="0.54" sfa:a="1"/>
    </sf:gradient-stop>
    </sf:stops>
    </sf:angle-gradient>
    </sf:fill>
    Now, don't panic Here's what this is. The first line allows you to specify the angle of your gradient. Play with the numbers from 0 to 359 until you have what makes sense for your design.
    Then, you will see two familiar lines again - the lines that allow you to specify color! The first line is the first color of your gradient and the second color is the second color of your gradient. That's all there is to it!
    SECRET: It might be possible to add additional colors, not just two. Do you see the part sf:fraction="0" and sf:fraction="1"? These are gradient stops. I'm willing to bet that if you inserted a thrid gradient stop with a fraction setting of .5, you'd have a three-color gradient!
    <sf:gradient-stop sfa:ID="SFRGradientStop-3333" sf:fraction=".5">
    <sf:color xsi:type="sfa:calibrated-rgb-color-type" sfa:r="0" sfa:g="0.25" sfa:b="4" sfa:a="1"/>
    </sf:gradient-stop>
    I have never tried this - it just occurred to me as I was looking at this code. Big prize for the first person to prove the theory
    NOTE: You will notice that the number 1111 and 2222 are within this code. iWeb XML relies on identification tags here and there. It's nothing you really have to care about except if you insert gradient fills in more than one area. Those numbers need to be unique so if you paste that code in for your selected page button and then paste it again for your rollover buttons, you'll need to update the numbers for the second button. Any numbers are fine. Use 3333 and 4444 for the second set, 5555 and 6666 for the thrid and so on. I often just type 4345781476 - doesn't matter.
    Next lesson will be images.

  • Audio Podcast listed as Movie file in iTunes

    Hi
    Our most recent podcast (yesterday) (produced in Garageband 09 and iWeb 09, uploaded to our MobileMe account) appears in iTunes>Podcast folder with a Movie Icon next to it. The downloaded file does not open/play (no error message appears), nor will it synch to my iPod Touch. Other subscribers have noted the same problem. The warning message from the iPod synch: "xxx was not copied because the video format is not supported by iPod". This is the first time I have encountered this type of problem. Our iTunes page may be found here.
    The latest version of the show appearing on our web site may be found here. Not sure why iTunes is now interpreting this file as a Movie? Perhaps this is an iWeb 09 bug?
    All previous downloaded shows play correctly in iTunes and synch to the iPod Touch. Oddly, if I simply double-click the current show in iTunes i.e. don't download it, it plays as a Movie file would play. A separate screen appears with the slideshow magnified (blurry) to the full size of the screen. Other shows play as an audio file would play.
    I read this Apple article, however it does not apply as I'm using the latest version of Quicktime -7.6. Our iTunes page may be found here.
    In My User Account>Applications Support>iWeb>Domain Sites2> I see all shows, including the current one correctly coded as .m4a.
    Appreciate any feedback or steps I can take to resolve this conundrum.

    Thanks Roger. I appreciate the feedback. I did a search, but it seems I didn't go far enough back in time. As I haven't had this problem before, I suspected it was something new brought about by either Garageband and/or iWeb in their latest renditions.
    As a test, I shared the podcast directly with iTunes. Then, via the Finder I had a look at the shared file in my iTunes Library folder. The file was saved correctly as a m4a file. So, I copied the file, then opened iWeb. In the Quicktime panel which held the original file shared from Garageband, I pasted the copied file. After saving, then publishing to MobileMe, I pinged iTunes again. By this morning, the m4a file had replaced the .mov file. All now is well.
    Crazy to have to go through this type of workaround just to publish a podcast. Bug must be in the Garageband sharing to iWeb process. Finding it is another matter. I posted feedback to Apple via Garageband.
    Thanks again for pointing me in a different direction. Appreciate it.

  • Unknown Error on trying to publish my podcast

    I've been publishing a podcast for over a year and for the last two entries I can publish the website but not the podcast. I'm using iWeb from iLife 06 and have all my software upto date. I get an Unknown Error when trying to publish the podcast. The podcast is recorded as an MP3 file, edited in Garage Band and shared with iweb. I am doing nothing different but am struggling to work out what is wrong. Its doing my head in!

    Interesting as I came to this site to see why i too was receiving 'unknown error' messages when publishing my garageband podcast to my .mac account and I have tons of room left there- never had any trouble when i was just blogging from iweb - is there some trick getting garageband to communicate with iweb? anybody else?

    Can someone please help me...
    I have recently created a Podcast in GarageBand, which I have shared to iWeb to be included in my website. I don't have a .Mac Account, so publish the site to folder which I then upload to my ftp.
    When you view the site, www.blacklightaudio.com you can subscribe to the Podcast without problem, iTunes opens and the episodes download. However, I am under the impression (quote me if I am wrong) that I need to submit the podcast for inclusion in iTunes. I therefore go to iTunes, online store, submit podcast.
    I enter the url www.blacklightaudio.com/Site/Podcast/rss.xml and get the following error, "We Require That Feeds Include a Title".... Keeping this in mind I thought that there might be a problem with the /rss.xml file, therefore I manually changed this to /blacklightaudio.xml but I still get the same problem.
    Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?
    Many thanks in advance.
    - Neil

    Yep, there is something missing there, but perhaps it is because you have entered the same data twice (or in the wrong place).
    If you look at a Feed, for example in Safari, there is a line at the top which is (of course) a title. I have one at feed://www.extensions.in.th/ext_link.xml and when you link to that, you get "Macs in Bangkok - Information" on the top line. This information is entered in the "Channel" section, and I have <title>eXtensions: Macs in Bangkok - Information</title>
    What I see with your however, is "feed://www.blacklightaudio.com/Site/Podcast/rss.xml" instead of descriptive information. If you go back into the application you created it in (or even a text editor) you will see the relevant line.

    As an additional point, I see that the links themselves within each item are not right. They show with a % sign between the parts, which I am pretty sure is an indication that there are spaces that should not exist.

  • Corrupted movie file including AAC audio

    Hi,
    I was resently recording a discussion with my PowerBook and I used QuickTime Pros "New recording" function. A friendly member of the discussion board pushed the reset button in my computer resulting it to shut down.
    As a result I have now a 150 megabyte .mov file with 44kHz stereo AAC audio. QuickTime still won't open it (error -2048). Nor will any other program I have tried.
    Are there any ways to recover this recording?
    Thanks,
    -Artturi
