Factory recovery cd doesn't work

I have a Satellite P205-6237 that I am planning on giving to a local charity as I have recently bought a new computer.  As I do every time I give a computer away, I desired to restore the computer to "out of box" condition using the factory supplied recovery disk.  I started the process which reformatted my hard drive.  Halfway through the process of loading files from the cd, I got a message "cannot read from the  source file or disk, PREINST3.SWM.  I told it to try again several times with same results and finally told it to skip the file, hoping for the best.
Of course the best didn't happen.  After inserting cd #2 and copying several files, got an error 10-FC06-0002.  Now I have a computer with a slicked hard drive and no operating system.  Any ideas how to recover without buying a full operating system?

Here's a link to a similar post with the same error code, and similar computer.
10-FC06-0002 Error
Hope it helps.

  • Application Restart and Recovery APIs doesn't work for windows services

I am using the Application Restart and Recovery mechanism (provided in Windows API Code Pack for Microsoft.NET Framework) to collect some information (i.e. stack information when there's an unhandledexception)  before my windows service crash down.
It works well for windows form applications, but the callback method wouldn't be called if the host is a windows service.
I have checked the article: https://msdn.microsoft.com/zh-cn/subscriptions/downloads/cc303708
But it doesn't specify clearly whether it works for a windows service. It seems that the recovery will only be activated when the user interacts with the error dialog of Windows Error Reporting (clicking "close" on the dialog, for example).
So I am wondering is my guess right that the Application Restart and Recovery mechanism doesn't work for windows services. Or is there a better way to meet my requirement?

I would suggest trying ARR if that's what you want to use.  The restart portion won't work, but it doesn't need to as if you fail out of your service, the Windows service controller will handle recovery (up to and including restarting your service).
You configure those recovery actions either through code or one of the built in administrative tools for services such as services.msc.
DebugDiag/ADplus and similar tools ultimately do use built-in APIs; you don't need to add anything external to collect debugging information.  You do however have to write a good deal of code to do somethings.  It's pretty simple to use the unmanaged
function that I pointed out before and
MiniDumpWriteDump to write a minidump when you hit an unexpected error(the dbghelp.dll that comes installed with Windows has it so you don't need anything additional installed).  You can even write a basic debugger that literally debugs a process using
    only kernel32 functions (see
    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/ms679301(v=vs.85).aspx if you're interested).

  • Satellite L650-12Q - Windows 7 recovery procedure doesn't work

    Hello,
I have Windows 7 Home Premium edition (64 Bit) in my Toshiba Satellite laptop (L650-12Q) and after a fresh start the Windows stopped working. I have a recovery disk which didn't load (I ended up with the pointer in a blank screen) and the windows 7 installation disk wouldn't work either (same thing). Safe mode doesn't work either.
This probably means that the partition has a problem am I right? - I have used Ubuntu Live CD which confirmed that c:\ cannot be mounted although d:\ can.
The problem however, is two fold: a) I'm not sure whether aspects of my data are accessible or not (I can't check this) and b) I can't re-install Windows, as the Windows 7 installation process doesn't work.
Any ideas please on what to do next? I would like to access the partition, have searched the internet (even tried with a Windows 98/XP boot disc) but didn't have any luck as the partition is written in a newer way, which isn't detected by them...
    Thank you in advance.

    > I have a recovery disk which didn't load (I ended up with the pointer in a blank screen)...
Do you use it for the first time?
Anyway, try to start recovery disc following these steps:
-Start notebook model and when you see Toshiba welcome screen press F12 several times to enter Boot options
-when the boot menu is shown put recovery disc into optical disc drive
-in menu choose CD/DVD drive and press ENTER
ODD should start reading recovery disc.
What happen when you do this?

  • Win 7 64bit HP recovery CD doesn't work

    Hi all,
I ordered the 64-bit Windows 7 HP recovery CD and it doesn't work.
When it separates the partitions, and it displays it's progress as usual e.g.
    1/7 complete
    2/7 complete
    3/7 complete (files copied etc.)
but around either 3/7 or 4/7 the sound of the CD in the drive changes, and it sounds like it's constantly restarting.
I'm confident that the problem is isolated to this CD since other discs are working fine and the 32-bit recovery CD I got with the laptop reinstalled Windows fine.
I'm wondering what might be happening? I've contacted the company about it and am waiting for news. I can't see any evidence damage to the disk, and I take great care generally. All I know is it's not working. Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Factory recovery dvds will not work. hp g62t vu636av

    windows 7 home premium 64bit
it's been so long i dont remember how/when this started.  it was either a windows update or a hp total care update, after the update my computer would load the hp logo bios screen then would either say boot mgr missing or no bootable device. i got out my factory recovery dvds and ran them.  it would read the disksload the files but when writing them onto the hdd it would stop at 12% i tried it a number of times with the same result.  then i found a win7 disk of the same release, loaded a fresh copy of win 7 and it worked great.  then my computer did a few updates and the exact same thing happened, no bootable device, etc.  called hp customer care. they decided i needed new recovery media.  did not work.  same 12% result.  hp decided it was a hdd issue.  they sent me a new hard drive, and new recovery media.  same 12% result with new hard drive and new recovery media.  i have no idea what to do now.  help.

If all has been replaced except the system board then it is time to contact warranty services again.

  • How do I log out of icloud on my iphone when my password or email recovery address doesn't work?

I switched my email address to a more current gmail one (which works as my apple id) from an old hotmail one. It switched my apple id over, but it didn't switch my icloud email over. Now the hotmail account is gone, the old password doesn't work, and I can't log in to icloud with my current gmail one. I can't delete it becuase the password doesn't work. I can't even wipe my phone out and start with whole new accounts because I can't turn off 'find my iphone'!

What it says is that Photostream photos will be deleted on your phone & any documents stored on the phone will be deleted...that's the way it works. If you want these photos, you need to save them first. For contacts, calendars, etc., you'll be asked if you want to keep on the phone or not.

  • Qosmio F10: Recovery DVD doesn't work?

Hi. I have a F10 series qosmio series lappy and well and well i keep getting random shutdowns, freezes, and a logon error every time i start up.
This has got very disturbing for me. I tried to use the system recovery cd i got with my laptop and when i follow the procedure stated in the user manual it starts the recovery then flashes that my system does not support the recovery.
Is this normal especially when i got my recovery disc with my laptop. I wish to reformat my hard drive back to factory settings and have it completely wiped with out having to buy a totally new hard-drive and windows xp.
What do i do and how can you assist me in this? I'm at the end of my teather as one of my jobs is an internet dj and I cannot keep crashing in the middle of my streaming. I do not wish to loose my job!!
    please help!

    Hi
Very strange! The fact is that you cannot use different recovery CD because every Recovery CD was designed for one Toshiba notebook model. For example you cannot use a Qosmio F10 recovery CD on a Qosmio G20.
However, I assume you use the delivered recovery CD (as you said) and usually the recovery procedure should works without any warnings or error messages.
In my opinion there is something wrong with the CD. Maybe the wrong CD was shipped with this notebook?
I recommend asking the Toshiba ASP in your country. There you can also order the new CD.
    bye

  • Lenovo G570 - I delete my recovery partition, recovery DVD doesn't work.

    Hi!
First of all - sorry for my english.
I have problem with my Lenovo G570.
I make a backup DVD with system by OKR (4DVD). Then by accident i DELETED my recovery partition. When i try to boot from these DVD i get error: "The program cannot restore the system partition because its structure is incorrect ,you may have to recreate the partition to continue".
    My partitions looks like this:
C: New installation of Windows 7 enterprise trial
D: Lenovo (default partition with drivers and backup)
Hidden empty partition where recovery was.
    What should i do now?

one key recover won't work when you delete the hidden partition. there is only one way to fix this issue that is shipping back to service to reset the hdd its default ( lenovo may charge you )

I put in the CD and boot from the CD drive, I can hear the drive working and the screen says "Windows is loading files" and a bar appears at the bottom of the screen, after this the screen goes blank and all I am left with is a mouse pointer and a black screen.

    Hi
Did you test if the notebook would boot up using another bootable disk like Linux Live CD, WinPE or Win XP?
Please check thisthis would help to determine if the issue is related to Recovery disk or notebook.
Please check also if the HDD is ok. For this test you can use an free HDD testing tool called Drive Fitness Test. Google for that.
However, it could be also an faulty recovery disk and in such case you should get in contact with the guys where you have ordered this disk maybe you need an replacement.

  • Recovery HD doesn't work when I hold Command and R on startup / restart. I am running os x10.8.4

Hi Folks, I can't get Recovery HD to open when I restart / start my MacBook Pro whilst holding down Command and the R keys. I have tried at least a dozen times. Any suggestions?

    hemelm wrote:
I am guessing I will have to do a re-install or reformat?
Yes, reinstalling Mountian Lion should recreate the missing Recovery HD partition. See this CNet article for an in depth discussion about that. (It is about Lion, not Mountain Lion, but the same considerations apply.)
Also, for future use, you might want to consider using the Recovery Disk Assistant to create a bootable copy of the Recovery partition on a small USB drive. This won't help you now (because you must have an existing copy of the partition on your Mac it can copy to the USB drive) but it could be handy if you ever find yourself in this situation again.
