Factory unlocked phones - iTunes store
I am in manila for the next year and contemplating trading in this piece of garbage Blackberry for a factory unlocked iphone4. Supposedly I can use it on any carrier, but I don't understand the details, its hard to get consistent information here.
Can anyone tell me whether these factory unlocked iphone4's can access the itunes store? I had an Iphone3G(ATT) before this and many apps that I already paid for, etc, which I would want to migrate over to this phone as well.
I don't really want to have to jail break. Just want to continue using one of the prepaid phone plans here that includes unlimited data and use the phone, including with itunes to get my apps, etc.

Yes, if officially unlocked iPhones were available in the Philippines, but unfortunately, they are not. All iPhones from sold in the Philippines are sold as carrier locked to Globe with no way to get them officially unlocked as Globe does not offer unlocking.

iPhones purchased in the UAE do not have FaceTime installed and FaceTime will not appear regardless of where the phone is taken.
Jailbreaking will void your warranty with Apple, may permanently render your phone unusuable, and will eliminate the possibility of getting help from Apple or its forums including this one.
If you want FaceTime on an iPhone, sell that phone and purchase one from one of the authorized iPhone dealers in India. -
When I tried to sync my 4G iphone factory unlocked to iTunes I got this message "An update to the carrier settings for your iPhone is available. Would you like to download it now?" Should I hit "Download and Update"? or "Learn More" ?
I have a factory unlocked iPhone 3GS (eg: purchased from Apple). I received the same message at some point and eventually (after reading a bit more) accepted "Download and Update". No problem. No apparent bad effects. It just seems to update things specific to the carrier (Bell Mobility in my case).

However on using the same in India with Vodafone, i am facing a problem where the connectivity keeps switching to EDGE most of the time. I have a 3G plan but most of the time it switches automatically to EDGE. Thats when i have to either switch Airplane mode - On/Off and then it acts normal. Will an iphone 4 that was originally purchased from apple directly as a factory unlocked phone remain unlocked or will it have now locked to the network it was used on. I've been told by carphone warehouse that the iphone will lock to first sim used in it (in this case Orange) and will need to be unlocked again. Just wanted the view of anybody who knows about this for sure. Thanks
If you bought it directly from Apple as unlocked it should be unlocked for all networks. There are phones sold that WILL lock to the first carrier it is used with, but this does not apply to phones where the receipt says "unlocked".

How come when I try to restore my iPhone 4 GSM (factory unlocked) with itunes, it starts ok, then at 60% blocks like for about 5 min, then continues till 100% and itunes give error msg (-1) ??? what can be the problem.

To the best of my knowledge, all iPads sold directly from Apple are unlocked. The only caveat would be if you intend to puchase in the US; if so, you'll need to make sure you purchase the GSM (AT&T) model, not the one intended for use on Verizon's network.
