Fade effect causes audio popping

Hello,
I have had a recent issue with iMovie which is only getting worse. Whenever I use the video effect of either fade in or fade out, there is a popping sound which get written into the audio track.
I have tried various fixes but nothing seems to work. It started out as a few quiet audio pops, but now is completely warping the audio. Any ideas?
Basically I have had to go through the painstaking process of extracting the audio and then fixing it in Garageband. This works, but is tedious and takes about 4 times as long. Since I have quite a few clips to process in this way, I need to fix this issue. I really appreciate any help that others could provide with this.

If anyone else has this problem - you fix it by making sure you pan the audio to the center, not left or right.

    Libby,
    Backup is unable to make a restorable by Disk Utility backup. You can restore pieces of the software as outlined in my FAQ about backing up user data:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    But to be able to restore a backup with Disk Utility, you need a cloning utility to have made the backup.
    I suggest starting a new thread here, where someone else could help you out better:

    First off, you'll get a wider audience who may be able to solve your problem. Secondly, responses to you won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them. And thirdly, you'll know for certain whether or not a response applies to you.

  • MAstering nested sequences causes audio pops

    I've noticed that if I apply dynamics and denoiser to the master audio channel of a sequence, and then nest that sequence within another sequence, when I export the movie (DV AVI) the sound has pops in it. The only way i've been able to get rid of the pops is to take the dynamics and denoiser off of the individual nested sequence and instead apply them to the master sequence (that contains the nested sequence). Bug? Any ideas why this would happen?

    I've also had some weirdness like that such as bizarre volume changes in the master sequence that aren't in the nested sequence. Several "quirks" I've encountered were remedied by re-rendering or deleting the preview and media cache files then re-rendering.

  • Garageband Audio Pop Causes Silence

    Hey Guys,
    This is my first time visiting, so forgive me if this error has already been addressed in previous posts. I've been having a really annoying problem with GarageBand lately. Every so often, the when shuttling through a track that's playing, I'll hear a loud audio pop and my audio card will completely stop working. I have a USB receiver/speakers that I plug in from time to time, and they do the trick as a temporary workaround, but eventually GarageBand even crashes them. The silence is across all other programs as well, and the only fix is a restart.
    Is there some sort of failsafe within GarageBand that causes the audio card to disable when it hits a certain dB level? Am I doing something stupid? I might add that I recently installed the YMCK magic 8-bit plugin and that will do the same thing as soon as I select it as a voice for a software instrument. Suffice it to say, I don't use that plugin anymore.
    Any ideas what might be going on here?

    I've been searching all around, there doesn't appear to be a user fix, or a fix from Apple. I hope it is fixed in Snow Leopard.

  • Audigy 2 ZS enabled audio effects causes unwanted noi

    The following effects causes unwanted noises when i enable them:
    Advanced EQ : Drumb & Bass
    Environmen : ALL of them
    The noises are sound like when you are searching for a TV channel... is this a hardware problem?

    I can only make some educated guesses, in part because I've never used Cubase.
    If you open the EAX Control Panel, and play around with it, the Master tab will show you the effects that are loaded into the Mixer/Effects DSP. You will find that the first two of these are Reverb and Chorus. You will also find that you are not allowed to remove either of these two. These are followed by a third Original Sound "effect" which you are also not allowed to remove. Additional effects can be selected and Added, which evidently loads them into Mixer/Effects DSP program memory.
    I would guess that the order in which effects are loaded corresponds to the effects channel numbers in Cubase. That you're not allowed to remove Reverb and Chorus is why they would appear dedicated to channels 1 and 2. I'd guess Original Sound would be skipped in this, and that function handled in other ways in Cubase.
    The Mixer/Effects DSP operates at 48kHz. ASIO tends to be a fairly low-level mapping, which is why effects would be expected to be disabled at 96kHz.

  • Audio pops in PPRO CC 2014

    I am getting PAINFUL audio pop in Ppro with MP3 audio tracks. As I move the CTI, it will max out and blow my eardrums to pieces. Any idea as to what would cause this?
    -gl

    I made a post about this a little over a year ago it looks like (Loud Pop On Moving of Playhead). I've found that adding a simple single-band compressor effect to all my audio prevents the popping. Only trouble is, any compression effect (apart from Multiband (Legacy)) makes Premiere crash when trying to queue a sequence to Media Encoder (though you can still drag and drop from one app to the other).
    I guess all we can do is keep filing bug reports.

  • Fade Effect

    I have a code on my buttons, which makes a blank image
    currently on stage get replaced with a different one when a button
    is rolled over.
    The code I am using is this:
    on mouseenter me
    sprite(3).member="a"
    on mouseleave me
    sprite(3).member="blank"
    end
    Very simple lingo. Is there a way that when the new image
    comes to view, it fades in when the mouse rolls over the button,
    instead of just popping in, and fade out once the mouse leaves the
    button, so that I end up with a smooth transition.
    Thank you.

    Guys:
    Thanks for taking your time to help me with the issue.
    I actually got an answer from another member that solved my
    problem. The code that was posted here was making the button sprite
    do the fade effect.
    My friend did some tweaking to that code to achieve what I
    needed.
    Here is the code:
    property fadeSprite
    property totalSteps
    property eachStep
    property animateMe
    on getPropertyDescriptionList
    myPropList = [:]
    myPropList.addProp(#totalSteps,[#comment:"select the number
    of steps for the
    fade:",#format:#integer,#range:[#min:5,#max:20],#default:10])
    myPropList.addProp(#fadeSprite,[#comment:"enter the sprite
    to fade:",#format:#integer,#default:1])
    return myPropList
    end
    on beginSprite me
    sprite(fadeSprite).blend = 0
    animateMe = true
    eachStep = 100/totalSteps
    end
    on mouseEnter me
    animateMe = false
    end
    on mouseLeave me
    animateMe = true
    end
    on enterFrame me
    if animateMe then
    if sprite(fadeSprite).blend > 0 then
    sprite(fadeSprite).blend = sprite(fadeSprite).blend -
    eachStep
    end if
    else
    if sprite(fadeSprite).blend < 100 then
    sprite(fadeSprite).blend = sprite(fadeSprite).blend +
    eachStep
    end if
    end if
    end
    With this one, I am able to select which sprite is fading in
    and out. Again, thanks for your help.

  • Fade Effect transparency IE/Firefox

    Hi,
    I am using the Spry:Fade effect with the image to be faded
    constructed in Fireworks. The image has a transparent background
    and a rectangle with a feathered edge effect.
    The fade works well using Firefox however in Internet
    Explorer a substantial part of the feathered edge effect turns
    black. This occurs whether the image is either a gif or a png
    format.
    Any suggestions on what causes this and a fix/workaround.
    Thanks,

    Hi artdoggy,
    That is an IE bug with several workarounds. The first
    workaround which is much simpler, is to specify a background color
    or font on the element that you are fading in. This somehow
    triggers IE to avoid this behavior.
    The other workaround is to use an effect onPostEffect
    observer or finish function to unset the filter function on the
    element. You can see sample of how to use an observer here:
    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/effects/observers_sample.html
    You'll have to do something like this in your observer:
    effect.element.style.filter = "";
    --== Kin ==--

  • Firefox is hanging when the page scrolls down to a html5 video or the page to a slideshow with fade effect

    Every time a page has a html5 video or a slideshow with fade effect Firefox 3.6 becomes terriblely slow. It freezes with this test: http://demos.hacks.mozilla.org/openweb/HWACCEL/
    I have Fedora 14 and before that Fedora 13 and the problem happens with both.
    The same doesn't happen on Opera or Google Chrome.
    '''UPDATE 1''': I have already tryed the Safe Mode and the problem happens the same.
    '''UPDATE 2:''' This page full of videos scroll smothly without any problemas: http://brettgaylor.tumblr.com/tagged/webmademovies

    I forgot to say that I did tryed the Safe Mode just to see if the slow was not being caused by some extension or plugin. However the result was all the same. By the way, the slow happens even if there is only one page opened. I am not thinking it is something related to the ATI video card or even Fedora because the same slow does't happen in Chrome and Opera...

  • Opening a popup window with fade effect

    Hi,
    I have a scenario where I want to open a pop up title window with some nice effect.
    Can you please suggest how do I achieve it?
    I have a repeater that repeats set of Text UI comps and I want to show a pop up window on MouseOver or MouseClick of each of these Text UI comps.
    Please help.
    Thank you,
    Amey

    if you want to open an title Window with a smooth fade effect there are more than one possible ways.
    1. Declare Fade Effect
         <s:Fade id="windowFade" target="{_titleWindow}" alphaFrom="0.0" alphaTo="1.0" />
    2. Execute the fade effect on openening
         2.1 start the effect after the PopUpManager.addPopUp
         PopUpManager.addPopUp(_titleWindow, this);
         windowFade.play();
         2.2 start the effect on added-Event
         protected function titlewindow1_addedHandler(event:Event):void
              windowFade.play();
    3. Make sure the effect is stopped before you start the animation with windowFade.stop()

  • Audio popping after burning blu-ray in 5.1

         Just as a disclaimer, I am fairly new to Adobe Premiere and I am running Premiere Elements 8 on a Sony Vaio with an Intel Core i5-580M processor, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 GPU, 8GB DDR3-SDRAM-1066 and Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
         I am attempting to create blu-ray disks in full HD and 5.1 surround sound. Source video is full HD 1920x1080 with .M2TS extension. When I have Adobe Premiere Elements 8 check the properties for my videos, it says the source audio format is "48,000Hz - compressed - 6 channels" and the project audio format is "48,000Hz - 32 bit floating point - 6 channels". This is despite the fact that the source should be 5.1. However when editing videos "5.1" shows up next to audio 1 on the timeline. I read something about this issue and I assume this isn't the cause for any poor audio after a blu-ray burn.
          I create new projects using these settings:
                   NTSC-AVCHD-Full HD 1080i 30 5.1 Channel
         After some quick editing I burn a blu-ray disk with the H.264 1920x1080i NTSC Dolby preset. When checking the quality of the burn the video looks great, but audio has a distinct popping or crackling occasionally that is not in the source files at all. Anyone have any ideas why a burn causes these audio blemishes to show up? I have never had any issues with 2 channel burns and I will probably just end up sticking with 2 channel audio if a solution can't be discovered. Also of note, the audio output is much lower from the burned copy than it is when played back from the source file. This will happen even when the clip volume is set to the max of +6.0dB. Thanks for any help.

    Thanks.
    If I play the original mts-file with Media Player Classic, the audio appears 99.9% clean. Using my headphones and 30 second test section, I could locate one barely audible "pop". PrE timeline zoom couldn't show any spikes or anything else suspicious, so I looked into this by extracting audio channels with Mediacoder to wav-file and checking how it looks at Audacity. One channel appeared to have this small step which caused the "pop". This is best described by following picture:
    Then, when I export the video (or just audio to wav-file) I get dozens of these similar steps which sound like "pop". Sometimes it is just on one channel, sometimes on both channels. They appear at every 2...3 seconds or so. For comparison, this is how the "pop" looks like when exported from PrE:
    Any further suggestions what might cause this increase in "popping" or how to fix it?

  • Example Fade effect for data change?

    Is there an example of how to use the fade effect when
    transitioning from one record to another in a dataset?
    What I have now is causing a blinking. The old data fades
    out, new data appears then fades in.
    <script type="text/javascript">
    <!-- // special effects - Fade in/out -->
    var fadePOout = new Spry.Effect.Fade('PO',{duration: 1000,
    from: 100, to: 0});
    var fadePOin = new Spry.Effect.Fade('PO',{duration: 1000,
    from: 0, to: 100});
    function observerPO(notificationType, notifier, data) {
    if (notificationType == "onPreLoad") {
    fadePOout.start();
    if (notificationType == "onPostLoad") {
    fadePOin.start();
    dsPO.addObserver(observerPO);
    </script>
    REF: Spry 1.5

    Yes, the example is what I want to happen. Am just not sure
    it can work with a pagedview dataset as the master. Tried very hard
    to follow your directions; Corrected the code in the
    SpryEffects.js. Made the CSS entry for the 'PO' region to have
    opacity:0. Copied your code and changed ds1 to my detail dataset
    (dsPO) (also tried my master dataset, dsPOrders, out of
    frustration). Changed the region name from 'description' to 'PO'
    (which is the name of my region to fade in and out). Added
    onclick="fadeOutContentThenSetRow('{ds_RowID}');" to the master
    dataset record. (Yes, I added it. I still have no clue as to how
    changes from the pagedview master dataset can update a detail
    dataset, but it does.)
    End result is the detail dataset appears as though the CSS
    was not read. I know this because I can see spry:state="loading"
    graphic. Then the data appears. It then disappears and fades in.
    Clicking on a master dataset record repeats the above result.
    Via Firebug am able to see that the function
    fadeOutContentThenSetRow never runs. The function fadeInContent
    runs several times. It appears to run through all events of the
    data region twice (Accounting for why the data is seen
    twice.)

  • 10.4.10 Audio Popping Issues: Information Check with Internal Speakers

    For people with internal speakers, or those without subwoofers: Please read all the way to the bottom to find a test that will determine whether you are also having audio problems, even if you can't hear pops.
    We've had a lot of discussion about audio popping due to 10.4.10, and the evidence indicates that the audio circuitry is going to sleep to conserve power, even on AC-only computers like the iMac, Mac Mini, and (at least one) Mac Pro. Some people claim to not have this problem, but I'm wondering if they just aren't noticing it.
    Having external speakers with a subwoofer, set to high amplification, are key to obvious detection of the problem. Let the sound subsystem go idle for 30+ seconds (wait a minute with no audio, just to be safe), turn up your external speakers really loud, and cause the computer to make a sound. You should hear a burst before the sound plays. If you repeat the sound, you won't hear the burst. This is the sound of the audio circuitry powering on, and the speakers are amplifying it.
    About 30 seconds after the sound finishes playing, if you leave the volume of your speakers turned way up, you should hear a "pop" as the circuitry is powered off. Then, playing another sound will recreate the burst.
    I haven't been able to hear these sounds with internal speakers, either on the Mini or iMac. But the problem still exists, and it is detectable... if you know what you are looking for.
    The burst of the audio circuitry turning on also causes a delay in the audio. The delay is a noticeable fraction of a second, an it can easily be detected if you have a repeatable source of sound. I like Terminal.app, because I use that application all day, every day. Here is how you can check to see if you are also subject to the audio problems:
    1. Start Terminal.app (in the /Applications/Utilities directory).
    2. Wait one minute for the audio circuitry to shut down.
    3. Without typing anything else, very quickly strike and release the Backspace key.
    4. If you pressed the key all the way, the program should have caused a beep. However, if the audio circuitry goes to sleep, the beep should occur after you have moved your hand off the key. This is because the circuitry takes time to power itself on before playing the sound.
    5. Now, quickly strike the Backspace key again. You should notice that the sound is produced immediately as you hit the key, without the delay you just witnessed.
    6. Strike the Backspace key repeatedly, to confirm that there is no audio delay. Do this about once every second or two. If you press the key too rapidly, not all of the presses will produce sounds... this behavior is not related to the issue we are testing.
    7. Wait another minute for the audio circuitry to shut down, and strike the Backspace key once more. You should again observe a delay between your strike and the sound production.
    If you witness delays like this, your audio circuitry is also going to sleep, and you are having the same audio problems as the rest of us. However, either because you are using internal speakers, or because your external speakers don't have the appropriate response, you aren't hearing the same bursts and pops as the rest of us.
    Please try this test, and report here. I want to build a list of people who previously couldn't hear the sounds, but still have the delay. This might give us a better picture of the scope of the problem.

  • How do I create a fade effect w/ a sample?

    Hi...
    I'm trying to get a certain effect but have yet to stumble across a good way to get the effect.
    I want to make a sample repeat until fade...  In other words, I want it to play the sample and then loop 3 or 4 times until it fades into nothingness.  For some reason I have a feeling there is a few ways to get to this type of sound...
    What is the best way?  An FX Plugin, Loop/Sample Editor, Inside the DAW itself?  Maybe another way?
    I'd like to get some tips on how to accomplish this effect...  Let me know if I'm not explaining the type of sound I'm looking for properly...  But it's basically an echo to fade effect used quite commonly...  I just don't know the best way to achieve it.
    Thanks!

    Ok, follow me on this one.
    Create an Instrument track, load the EXS24 Sampler in the instrument slot. Load any drum kit. (note: this could be a one-shot sample on an audio track as well)
    Next...   load the Stereo Delay into an INSERT.
    If you play a snare drum sound are you hearing the ping-pong echo effect. (I know that's not what you're going for, this is just a test.)
    pancenter-
    p.s. if you loaded the "Sample Delay" plugin, it won't work that's a different type of delay related to timing.
    ps.II I suggest trying the tape delay, experiment and become familiar with the controls, also, check out presets on all of the plugs.

  • Why does embedded video cause audio sync issues?

    Greetings all,
       I have a question that is perhaps best answered by an Adobe developer or someone who knows the SWF file format and various audio/video standards fairly well. When one drags an FLV file into the library in flash authoring tool, a window appears. If you click "Embed FLV in SWF and play on timeline", an awful message appears, "WARNING: Embedded video is likely to cause audio synchronization issues...". My question is: why would there be any audio synchronization issue? Is this really just a bug/unimplemented feature? Or is there some fundamental shortcoming of current versions of the SWF file format that does not allow for the FLV audio/video signals to be properly encoded in the SWF file? Or is it that the flash player plays SWF and FLV data in fundamentally different ways and that even if the audio/video is perfected sync'd in the SWF file, the fact that it's a SWF file causes flash player to lose sync?
       I'm guessing only a Flash developer could answer this (and probably not just any Flash developer!), so if there are any out there, please spare some wisdom for a poor lost SWF surfer.
       Thanks!

    Hi:
    Welcome to discussions!
    From what I am reading, you are trying to use the audio that was in the original video-right? By that, I mean, you haven't added a voice over or music-just using the speaker's voice on the tape.
    If so, you might want to try using something like a Fade Out or Fade In instead of one of the transitions that add or subtract to the length of the video
    [Quoted from iMovie Help]
    Some transitions (for example, Cross Dissolve and Push) shorten your movie by a few seconds, depending on the speed of the transition. For example, if you add a transition with a speed of 2 seconds, iMovie overlaps 2 seconds from the first clip and 2 seconds from the second clip as it renders the transition. This shortens your movie by a total of 2 seconds.
    The Overlap transition freezes the last frame of the clip on its left and superimposes it over the next clip. Fade In/Fade Out blackens the last frames of the clip on the left and the first frames of the following clip.
    [End quote]
    Or you could try extracting the audio from the movie so that you could edit it and sync it that way.
    Sue
