Failed sync, now ipod will not shutdown, reset or connect to iTunes

Was syncing my ipod touch 4g and the sync failed with a message something along the lines of "cannot sync as there is already a sync running".
Now the ipod is really slow. It will now power off. Hard reset brings it back to the same state. When I plug into PC, itunes hangs for a while, but does not recognise the ipod.
Any suggestions?

I would reboot the computer and then place the iPod in recovery mode and then try to restore it via iTunes on your computer. For recovery mode see:

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

IPod will not charge or show up in iTunes

My iPod will not charge when I connect it to my computer through the USB cable. It does not show up on iTunes. Nothing comes up on the iPod screen at all. The iPod is completely dead. I have tried pressing the menu and center button at the same time. I have tried toggling the hold button. I have tried every combination. It is an old iPod (3 or 4 years at least) 80gb video. I have tried charging on another computer. It seems to only stop working like this if the battery dies completely.
Is there another solution to this besides the menu/center button solution?

This is the exact same problem I have. The only thing that works for me is to charge it on an old ihome alarm clock. I bought the alarm clock at the same time as the ipod, and I haven't tried it on a newer ihome device. Once my ipod is totally dead, thats the only thing that will work. I even took it to the apple store and they told me all they could do was give me 10% off a new ipod and "recycle" mine. Before you do that, I would really recommend trying to charge it on an ihome or similar device. Ipod classic not responding, reseting, or recognized by itunes or windows

ipod will not turn on,rest, etc. screen flashes when hooked to computer, and when going through 5 steps of troubleshooting, the apple will briefly show up. Does not charge up after being hooked to computer. no longer recognized by itunes or window (all updated and reloaded)

Nothing huh? No one's had this problem or this isn't fixable... oh well... if anybody comes up with anything I'll check in occasionally...

My iPod will not be reset to factory settings

Hello I am new at this. And I'm not very computer-savvy. But I love my mac.
Here is my problem. I have updated my iTunes on my eMac to the latest version. I plug in my iPod (2nd generation, 3.1 I think) and although my iPod shows up on the desktop and on "my computer" iTunes says " may be corrupted. You must reset it to factory settings" I agree, and follow all the prompts to reset it, and when I do, it shuts iTunes down. So I have an updated iTunes and an older, empty iPod that I cannot reset to factory settings.
What can i do?

For Mac computer
1. Open the disk utility, hope your iPod appears there (left hand side), highlight it
2. Go to Tab “Partition”, click either “Delete” or “Partition”, if fails, skip this step and go to 3
3. Go to Tab “Erase” , choose Volume Format as “MAC OS Extended (Journaled), and click Erase, again if fails, skip it and go to 4
4. Same as step 3, but open the “Security Options....” and choose “Zero Out Data” before click Erase. It will take 1 to 2 hours to complete.
5. Eject your iPod and do a Reset
6. Open the iTunes 7 and click “Restore”
Please note that you can have a try to skip the "zero out data" option

IPod will not turn on unless connected to MacBook

I have a new iPod Nano (January 2014 purchase) that had a run-down battery. When I plug it into my MacBook, it shows up and I can sync new Music to it. However, after ejecting it properly, the screen remains black and I can't power it up or even reset it by holding down both the Home and Power buttons at the same time. Anyone else experience this?

Congratulations on your new iPod nano, but I'm sorry to hear that the screen stays black after disconnecting it from your MacBook. I recommend these steps for the issue you described:
Will not turn on or screen remains dark
Connect iPod to power for at least ten minutes to ensure that the battery has enough charge to allow iPod to turn on.
If iPod does not turn on after ten minutes, try resetting it while it is still connected to power. Reset the iPod by holding down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least six seconds or until you see the Apple logo appear.
If the Apple logo appears on the display, connect iPod to a computer and verify that it appears in iTunes and can play music. If iPod appears in iTunes and can play music, no further troubleshooting is needed.
If the screen remains dark and will not turn on, then your iPod may need service.

I was thinking about why the songs arent importing and I feel that its either, A) the format of the files has changed since you last imported them, or B) you may need to rebuild the iTunes library.

If your Podcasts list in iTunes is empty after following these steps, learn how to add them back into iTunes.

Ipod will not hold a continuous connection with the pc

i had my ipod plugged in when i was booting up my computer. ever since then i can't get the ipod to connect. it goes from the apple screen to the main menu to the "do not disconnect" screen and thens back to the apple screen. This repeats continuously.
In order to fix the problem, I can set the ipod to "Disk Mode" so the iTunes can find the ipod. then i can restore the ipod in iTunes. The ipod will then work until i change it to "enable disk use" and load an iCalendar to it. The iCalendar was not a problem in the past, so im not sure why it is a problem now.

Run a search here of msconfig. There are some steps to take in MSConfig that will help with your continuous "do not disconnect" message.
I had it also and it turned out to be a competing MP3 software from Sony that I had installed on my PC before I purchased my iPod. I disabled the automatic loading of this application and I have been trouble-free ever since.

IPod Touch will not start completely or connect to iTunes

Ipod touch (about 15 months old), will not fully start. I can get it to shut down by holding the power and home buttons,
When I turn it back on, I will see the Apple logo for a few seconds and then see the clockwise spinning circle. The circle will spin for hours with nothing else happening.
I tried connecting it to iTunes and it recognizes it has been attached, but it is asking for the passcode. I can't get the iPod to the passcode enter screen.
Any ideas? I have no idea if and when if was last updated as it is my nephews.

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

I just purchased a nano and it will not connect to itunes it has a folder and caution sign on the ipod and when you go to update ipod it says it can't be updated

try restarting your computer. and make sure your nano is unplugged and everything. you may have to download a new version of itunes too. jus see if that works, it helped mine. hope it works for you!

5th gen iPod lost and will not play videos after connecting to iTunes

My iPhone will not get past the connect to iTunes screen. I tried downloading iOS 8.0.2 and it downloaded but then cancelled because of an error. My iPhone will not do anything at all.

So my iPhone 5s will not let me get past the connect to iTunes page.
Thursday night I went to go download iOS 8.0.2 and it said I needed to connect to iTunes. So I plugged my cord into my laptop and it opened up iTunes and proceeded to tell me that I needed to update and restore. So I clicked it and it began updating. After over a day, and many different attempts, it finally downloaded all the way through and then said it was processing the item. After this, there was a said error and I had to restart the update. I was able to restore my phone!!!
I called Apple and they said there was nothing more I could do. I called my carrier Verizon and was able to get my computer to recognize my device after trying this-
Solution:
After trying EVERYTHING this is the ONLY thing that worked-
I took the USB connector cable out of the USB port it was in, and tried another one on the otherside of my laptop and iTunes was able to discover my phone in recovery mode. My phone was reset and everything is fine ( thank gosh for backup copies!)
