What in the world is going on? I deleted the wdnotify file and this didn't solve the problem. I could probably do a kill -9 and try to restart it, but what if I get a "could not start" error. Anyone dealt with this before?ok, I grew some balls and reboot the entire UNIX box. Took down all 5 websites! It restarted without a hitch. After the reboot I WAS able to stop and restart the server as many times as needed. No problems.
Here's the thing. I am trying to install the MS SQL Server JDBC driver so my jsp's can connect to a database. From what I read you can just add the path to the jar's in the JVM12.conf file. Well I go to the 'Servlets' tab and hit the 'Configure JVM Attributes' button and scroll over to the JVM Classpath to put the path to my jdbc jars. I did that and tried to stop and restart the server and I am back in the same boat. I tried to shutdown the server and I get a shutdown error. Everything worked until I tried to edit the JVM12.conf file. Now I probably have to reboot to get this thing to work again. My question is....
Why would editing the jvm12.conf file make me have a shutdown failure? Nothing about this failure is entered into the error log or I would post the contents. -

I am running iPlanet 4.1 SP8 on Solaris 8. I receive the following error message when trying to shut down the server via the Administration console:

There is not error message in the Admin Server Logs. In fact, I only see the following:

[https-compartido]: server failed to shutdown. (0: unknown early startup error)
Error
An error occurred during shutdown.
If I shutdown from the script there is no problem. Only when I try shutdown it from the Admin Server I'm using Solaris 5.8.

Hi Community,
I have a new MBP 2011, that came with OSX Lion Installed.
The system statred off very well, with super startup and shut down times.
Along the way the system beagn freezing while under load, and the problem was resolved after installing the latest patches to 10.7.1.
A few weeks ago, the laptop began developing the following problems:
1. OSX Lion takes time to shutdown, almost 2 minutes or more.
2. The Problem has now worsened and OSX Lion fails to shut down completely until I hold on to the power button for a few seconds.
I checked on the logs for any signs, but being a first time mac user, am not sure how to get to the root of the problem.
Below is the relevant sectionof the Log files for the shutdown process.
Any help will be highly appreiated in resolving this rather frustrating issues with Lion.

Unmounting root fs fails on shutdown
Hey all,
since a few days my root filesystem refuses to umount on shutdown claiming it were busy. On every bootup a recovery is done which bothers me. The failing umount suggests using lsof to find the process causing the problem. I switched to runlevel 1 and did so, but the output is not very helpful for me...

JohannesI noticed one thing, but that's not to say there's not other problems too: your syslog-ng is still running. At that point in shutdown, I think all your daemons including it should be shut down. I don't know why it's still running. Do you just launch it by putting "syslog-ng" in your DAEMONS array in /etc/rc.conf? It's possible that you're not really getting an accurate picture here of the state of your system at shutdown. I debug these issues by hacking /etc/rc.shutdown. Before the "Unmounting Filesystems" block you could do a
lsof / # I think this is the way to display only open files on the root filesystem, but you should read man lsof to be sure

I have J2EE application consisting of WEB and EJB layers deployed on WL 8.1
I start the Graceful Shutdown Sequence with Ignore Sessions During Shutdown option set. sessionDestroyed() method of registered HttpSessionListener is fired but at this moment JNDI tree is already empty, EJB module undeployed and the listener is not able to get to application's EJBs.
In the documentation (http://e-docs.bea.com/wls/docs81/adminguide/overview_lifecycle.html#1045901) Ignore Sessions During Shutdown option is explained as follows:
"If you enable this option WebLogic Server will drop all HTTP sessions immediately, rather than waiting for them to complete or timeout."
What does "drop" mean here? Is this some exception to Graceful Shutdown Sequence and the following excerpt from the documentation? : "During a graceful shutdown, subsystems complete in-flight work and suspend themselves in a specific sequence and in a synchronized fashion, so that back-end subsystems like JDBC connection pools are available when front-end subsystems are suspending themselves."

[solved] Networkmanager failed on shutdown

Well, I try to install quick-init but I have a lot of problems and when I uninstalled it and restore all (I hope so) I see that when I shutdown a FAIL on networkmanager, can anybody help me, please?

In my modules I don't know what cause I'm out of my office now but I think dbus is installed cause docky ask me for it when I installed it.

Could anyone please let me know if getting the following is the expected
result when you are shutting down WLS? Specifically, I'm interested in
the ListenThread.run() failed message. I'm using WLS 5.1 on Solaris 5.6
with JDK 1.2.1_04. The main reason I'm bringing this up is when I
shutdown my WLS on NT (WLS 5.1, JDK 1.2.2) I don't get the
ListenThread.run() failed message. Can anyone shed some light on this
issue? If I shouldn't be getting that failed message, any suggestions
on how to remedy the situation?

After security update 2011-005, iMac fails to shutdown
Hi All,
I just upgraded my work computer running OS X 10.6.8 to latest security patch (2011-005), and after that my iMac can't shutdown anymore.
The process that is hanging is Apache Tomcat 6. Exactly org.apache.catalina.stratup.Bootstrap
We looked into System diagnostics and there is nothing there!
It looks to me that it has to do with permissions and dependencies, but I have no clue where to look!

Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC. -

Stopping NetworkManager [FAIL] on shutdown.
Any idea why every time I shut down I get that error message? Everything else stops just fine, except that. I don't like the word "Fail" every time i turn of the comp. haha.
What might be the issue?Actaully, I followed that link that bangkoks gave me and it worked. It was so simple: Add dbus in front of hal in rc.conf DAEMONS!
The wiki page on HAL and the Beginner's Guide need these details. I those manuals, i remember it saying that you don't need dbus in your DAEMONS because HAL automatically loads it.
But adding one extra little word won't harm anything and will prevent the user from seeing "FAIL" everytime he shuts down, so they should include it, just for the best possible experience. I'm gunna go find where it says that and add it. -
Droid razr m update fails on shutdown and boots into ap fastboot
Hello, I have had this phone for a few months now and finally I got an ota I then downloaded it on 4g and it booted into fast boot I then have to hold The volume up and volume down and power then click normal boot I have tried a hard reset and tried again same thing. I have done nothing to my phone but it does this... is there anything I can do? I really want this update. Thanks

I'm sorry you are having trouble installing the update. I'm surprised that with the steps you have taken, you are still unable to install it. Are you using WiFi? When going to Settings>About Phone>System Updates what displays? If you are in Settings>About Phone, what information displays under Android Version and System version? Generally, if the software is not installing through this path, a master reset would need to be done to help push the update.

Cord unplugged from headphone jack causes Mac OSX to fail and shutdown.
I have a sound system running through my iMac. When I unplug the sound system, my iMac desktop turns gray & a message tells me that Mac OSX has quit. This has happened multiple times & I would like to know why.
Obviously, this should not happen. Mac OS X does make a software setting change when it senses the headphones mini-jack being removed. The System Preferences Sound pane Output tab setting gets changed to +built-in speakers+ and the speaker output volume is set to the previously set value for the +built-in speakers+ (which is stored separately from the headphones volume). It is not just a hardware speaker on/off switch like in most PCs.
So with that in mind, my first suggestion is to reset the PRAM.

I am still a concurrency student and not an expert, but perhaps this could help.
In Java 5 there are some new components/tools for concurrency that seem very usefull. One of those is a CyclicBarrier. A CyclicBarrier lets you run an amounts of threads and the barrier has a blocking thread as well. The blocking thread is only executed when all the other threads are finished.
I have almost no experience with this object, but perhaps if you lookup how it works it might be of help. I have no idea if it will be usefull at all...
