Failing podcast producer builds after 10.6.3 update

Here is a portion from my logs that shows the failing points, doesn't matter the workflow or user, always fails now.... has to be permissions of some kind but I don't know what to fix..

Morning,
On my side everything is fine, the update didn't influence the functioning of the software. The only problem I have is that on podcast composer, the wiki part one can't put the address in this format "wiki.domain.edu/group" only wiki.domain.edu.group.
How can one upload the feed straight to the blog or the wiki?
I just saw your carry, I look into it and will let you know a bit later. Thank you!

  • How to clear failed podcast producer uploads?

Is there a way to clear stuck/failed items from the podcast --list_uploads list?  An Apple OSXS 10.5 article on this mentions an undocumented "clear_errored_uploads" method in the /usr/bin/podcast ruby script, but attempting to use it like --clear_completed_uploads (such as podcast --clear_errored_uploads) results in an "unrecognized option `--clear_errored_uploads'" error.

    someone found a solution?

  • Mac Book fails to boot properly after EFI Firmware 27 update

    hi
I have a strange boot issue having (tried) to install EFI 2.7 update.
When I restart the laptop, it 'chimes', displays a grey screen ... then chimes, displays a grey screen , ... for ever
I hit the bower (off) button for 5 secs or thereabouts, and restart ... same thing
I do this 4 times and finally it reboots.
But the EFI update still appears as needing to be installed (software update tells me it is not installed).  Update history shows however that it IS installed.
I can go through this process any number of times ...  I now have Software Update history showing quite a few installs opf the EFI 2.7 update.
If I just do a restart WITHOUT installing, I also go through the same fail to restart / fail to start / ... / eventually restart sequence.
So it seems now that the laptop will only start after 4 failed restarts and finally it starts ...
After starting it all appears to be perfectly fine.
Nothing strange in the console logs that I can see.  The failed reboots don't seem to register in the console logs - I suspect that the failure to restart is pretty early on in the boot sequence, well before it tries to load any semblance of the OSX kernel.  It is almost as if it is trying to boot from someplace other than the disk ... until eventually it gives up and tries the disk.  (I have tried booting with and without network cable - no difference)  I don't know enough about mac bootup sequences to know if there is some config/setting that is screwed up causing this odd behaviour.  I sirt of feel it must be setup/software related, but could be wrong.
    Odd.
    Any ideas?
    - chris

I have a MC721LL/A early 2011 15.4" MacBook Pro i7. After I installed this firmware update my Mail would not load saying the version I was trying to start was not compatible with the OSX version (not sure whether this was an OSX update issue which I think I did at the same time). But the biggest problem I have is that I cannot boot my machine. It boots to the Apple logo and then emits 3 beeps repeatedly. I am on vacation in Osaka, Japan and the Apple Store here told me after running some analytics that the logic board is not seeing the RAM. After reseating the RAM multiple times (both original and replacement DIMMS), it still won't boot. The Genius Bar guy said very nicely that it is out of warranty and needs a new logic board, costing over $500 and taking a week at the factory. He recommended spending the money on a new MacBook instead. Since my machine is 15 months old, I am not very happy about this. The machine was absolutely fine before the firmware upgrade. I will wait till I get back to the US and get a second opinion from my local Apple Store. I can't accept that a 15 month old MacBook Pro very lightly used can develop such a catastrophic failure.

  • Mail fails to import messages after 10.8.5 update

After the update Mail fails to import my messages and then quits.
First screen says: Welcome to Mail. To use the new features your existing Mail messages need to be imported....
Then when I click continue it says: The import failed. An error occurred during the import. Make sure you have available space in your home folder and try again.

Please advise on how to solve this issue !

Intermediate answer: The app launched correctly and the import process has started.
It is taking ages though. Over 3 hours for around 30K messages.
The message count sometimes gets stuck for 20-30 minutes or so and then starts counting again...
There are ~5K messages left to be imported. I'll let you know if it goes ok.
Stay tuned for the next and hopefully last episode.

  • All Podcast Producer Jobs Failing After Snow Leopard Upgrade

First, and most importantly, all Podcast Producer submissions are failing after upgrading to Snow Leopard. These seem to fail in the mail stage.
I have a second problem that makes this worse: When I enter Server Admin -> Podcast Producer -> Settings -> Properties, I can not see any properties. I know that these settings are somewhere, since when I open the XML file in <Shared File System>/Server/Jobs, the resulting file has information that should be here, however some of it is incorrect. I'm not sure what got changed, since I can't see all of the properties in the PP panel in Server Admin.
Thirdly, I can see no Workflows available in Podcast Producer, even the new ones that are supposed to be available in Snow Leopard.
So, I would at least like submissions to actually not fail, which was not the case before the upgrade. I would also like access to all of the properties and workflows available in the Podcast Producer administration part of Server Admin.
Has anybody else experienced this? Is there a way to fix this?

After installing SL, i cannot get wellsfargo "account login" to work for any account of mine, other financial secure sites work fine, i.e. fidelity or vanguard, I can access the main screen of wellsfargo but login fails ... screen i get says Safari can't connect to the server and as follows: "Safari can’t open the page “https://online.wellsfargo.com/das/cgi-bin/session.cgi?" plus some more gibberish stuff.... i tried switching to firefox and it works fine .... never had any trouble before ..... tried safari reset, safari empty cache, and maintenace that applied ...... still no luck!! hope they get this bug fixed , my other computer an older mac mini works fine. any help????? never had any problem before SL

  • Podcast Producer 2, Jobs Failing

We are in the process of setting up our xserve for podcast producer, but I am running into an issue.
When I submit a podcast, the job shows up in Xgrid Admin but then fails shortly after. When I look at the individual job log, it fails on the same task each time:
task "import-plugin-movie-generated" state change to "Failed"
task "publish-plugin-movie-generated" state changed to "Failed"
When I go to Server Admin>Podcast Producer>Logs>Podcast Producer Server Error Log I get the following error.
/usr/share/podcastproducer/pcastserd/lib/watcher/watcher/watcher.rb:#in 'start' :Ruby threads cannot be used in RubyCocoa without patches to the Ruby interpreter
Please let me know if you have any suggestions, as I can't find really anything about this error online or in any other documentation.

This group is usually reserved for issues specific to the Xserve itself and you are more likely to get an answer - or at least get more experienced eyes on your problem in a more appropriate group. Like the Podcast Producer discussion group:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1355
A very technical discussion of this issue - or at least a very similar one is here at StackOverFlow:

  • When Podcast Producer says it's running but isn't (apache fails to start)

We've set up a new Intel XServe up with Leopard Server (10.5.6) and are having trouble persuading the Podcast Producer engine from starting.
First, we've set up all the accounts and settings exactly per Apple's PP documentation. Yes, I'm aware of the need to significantly tweak the defaults and that you don't just click "start" We have a fully functioning OD Master on this machine, plus DNS, Kerberos, XGrid, QTSS and our regular web services (on port 80) via Apache.
We try to start the Podcast Producer in Server Admin. The dot goes green, indicating that the service is running. However, no one can connect to it using the Podcast Capture application (and yes, users attempting that are clients of the OD Master).
The logs show what's not happening, but not why:
The pcastserverd_out.log shows many repetitive instances of:
    Thu Jan 22 16:27:33 +1100 2009 -- Starting pcastserverd apache...
pcastserverd_error.log shows many repeated instances of:
Unexpected exception in check: Failed system command: /usr/sbin/httpd -f /usr/share/podcastproducer/apache/httpd.conf -k start (256)
    and, less often:
Unexpected exception starting mongrel instance: Failed system command: /usr/sbin/httpd -f /usr/share/podcastproducer/apache/httpd.conf -k start (256)
I have traced this error to the execution of a ruby file:
    /usr/share/podcastproducer/pcastserverd/lib/pcast_server.rb
where there is a routine that obviously attempts to check "mongrel and apache" for something. Here's the routine:
    def check
    ASLLogger.debug("Checking mongrel and apache...")
    begin
    if (!check_apache)
    start_apache
    end
    if (ServerPreferences.mode == "main")
    @mongrelbase_port.upto(@mongrel_baseport + @num_mongrels - 1) do |portnum|
    start_mongrel(portnum)
    end
    end
    rescue Exception => boom
ASLLogger.error "Unexpected exception in check: #{boom}"
    end
    end
Here's the question: how do I further trace this fault to work out what's going on and how to fix it? Why does SA insist the PP engine is running when evidently it isn't? Why won't this instance of Apache launch properly?
I am assuming that the PP invoked instances of Apache and it's "mongrels" (whatever they are) are using SSL on ports in the 8xxx range, and that these are entirely unrelated to the web services I've already set up for webmail, wikis and blogs elsewhere in SA.
    Your advice is appreciated.

When you are charging what are you plugged into?
You should plug the nano either into a power brick or directly into the back of your computer. Do not use USB hubs, or the USB ports on the front of the computer at first. Just confirm you can get a full charge on the USB connection at the back or from the power brick.

  • Podcast Producer Youtube workflow fails. Script produces runtime errors

A guide was written regarding creating a Podcast Producer workflow for YouTube. Unfortunately, the completed script (even with all of the relevant API bits installed properly) returns an exception when trying to upload the video (client ID, data API have been substituted into the script). The Java script compiles and runs. However, when it failed, I decided to toString() the exception which was called and found out that Google was returning "Bad Request," meaning something with the way the Script was trying to talk to Google was bad. The code is still the reference code with the CID/DevKey subbed in, but because of the Bad Request exception passed by Google, it fails to upload, and thus, fails entirely.
Is there a proper working YouTube workflow anywhere?

Apologies: I just found the Podcast Producer forum, so I'm going to mark this one as answered and repost the question in the Podcast Producer forum now that I know a specific forum for it exists.

  • Xgrid Job fails on Podcast Producer

Hi all. This is on a fresh install of Server 10.6 with all updates to 10.6.2, repaired permissions, rebooted, etc. I enabled Podcast Producer using its Setup Assistant. Created a test user, and Podcast Capture worked fine on uploading to their podcast, using the default Single Source with small movies. Uploaded 4 episodes. Then, all of a sudden, it stopped working, and I get this
    =============================================================
    Thu Dec 10 11:34:48 -0500 2009 -- Xgrid Job: 14 is Running
    Thu Dec 10 11:34:53 -0500 2009 -- Xgrid Job: 14 is Failed
This is using both the Podcast Capture app or the web based Capture app, on the server or from other computers. In the error log I get this:
/System/Library/Frameworks/Ruby.framework/Versions/1.8/usr/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gem s/mongrel-1.1.5/bin/../lib/mongrel.rb:285:in `run': Ruby threads cannot be used in RubyCocoa without patches to the Ruby interpreter
Is this relevant? Already erased drive and reinstalled everything twice, on this Mac Pro, 2.8 GHz Quad Core Xenon.
Where to look and what to fix? Appreciate any feedback.

  • Persistent problems posting to iTunes U via podcast producer - inconsistent

    Hi all,
We have been running podcast producer to post content to our iTunes U site since shortly after 10.5 came out. Responsibility for the server has recently been passed to me. The problem that we are having, the problem we have had for a very long time, is that "pcast action iTunesU" will fail. The logging is not very verbose so we do not know if it is a timeout issue or what. The problem is inconsistent, sometimes it works (for the same user using the same workflow) and other times it will just fail. Sometimes it will fail early on in the process, sometimes later on. It seems there is no consistency and as yet I have not been able to reproduce the problem from the command line.
We are running 10.5.3 as the 10.5.4 update broke things worse (the metadata problem others have experienced as well).
I know that our workflow works, I know that the user authentication is working as I can post to that iTunes U tab doing short tests with podcast capture. When the instructor in question tries to post it will sometimes work and sometimes fail. Is this a timeout issue on Apple's end?
We desperately need a solution for this.
Is there a file size limit that is not documented or something?
Here is an example of the error from xgrid agent log:
    Fri Jul 11 13:01:30 podcast.acs.ocad.ca xgridagentd[1109] <Notice>: Notice: agent task "11438" failed for user "pcastxgrid" executable "/usr/bin/pcastaction" arguments (\n iTunesU,\n "--basedir=/Volumes/Content/Shared/Recordings/4900EF02-5717-4F5B-B420-48780F797 998",\n "--input=ScreenCapture-2008-07-10-180542-ipod.m4v",\n "--title=Bojana Test (video)",\n "--description=",\n "--site_url=ocad.ca",\n "--tab_id=1589674576.01589674581",\n "--credential=Administrator@urn:mace:itunesu.com:sites:ocad.ca",\n "--display_name=hidden",\n "[email protected]",\n "--user=hidden",\n "--user_id=1028",\n "--pcast_server=https://podcast.acs.ocad.ca:8170/podcastproducer",\n "--otp=/cjLUErIVJxKnx/ZCOalWA=="\n)
To test from the command line I am generating a fresh OTP just fyi in case someone is searching:
$sudo pcastconfig --add_access "token" --properties "iTunes U Shared Secret"
Again, this happens sometimes (lately more often than not), and sometimes it will work.
The lectures that we are posting are roughly 2.5 hours and the instructor is using podcast capture on a macbook pro using the screen capture function. We are running PcP on an intel xserve.
    Thank you!

  • Setting up Podcast Producer errors out

It looks like I am almost done having this setup. My PcP 2 server is setup and forward / reverse DNS are working. I've kerberized the service.
When going through the setup assistant, at the last step, I am getting an error message that states setup of the PcP failed.

How can I resolve the problem with No Host Name in System configuration. As far as I can tell, everything is setup properly on that box.

I had the same issue too and scutil verified my HostName (not to be confused with what `hostname` returns) was not set:
    admin$ scutil --get HostName
    HostName: not set
this did the trick for me:
    admin$ scutil --set HostName foobar.domain.private

  • Podcast Producer - workflow is posted but the podcast is missing

everything seems fine otherwise would really like a hand with this as i'm stumped.
so i can create a work flow
    i can upload it
i can see the workflow in podcast capture
    i can uploads to it
no sign of the podcast after that

Podcast Capture is designed to work with Podcast Producer, which is part of OSX Server. If you are running that you would do best to ask in its Forum. I don't know whether you can get any use out of Podcast Capture with non-server OSX.

I'm having this issue as well only with a little different twist I guess. I'm transferring the iWorks applications from my Macbook Pro 3,1 with Lion to a new MBP 10,1 running Mountain Lion. I transferred the apps over using DropCopy since the older MBP doesn't have AirPlay. Applications show up but crash upon opening. This is the first install so there are no previous plist, versions or such to delete. All three crashed upon opening every time until I just had to have Keynote and purchased again - although Apple agreed to refund that purchase since my previous version quit working. Any ideas since I don't have any previous plist/versions to delete? Thanks in adavnce for any help you can offer.

  • Microsoft Office Apps fail to work after 10.6.7 update

Has anyone else's office apps failed to open after installing the OS update?
This is a brand new iMac only 5 days old using office 2011 with current updates.
    Regards.
    Mike.

After doing some Internet research and speaking with a second-level Apple tech, together we came up with the following solution.
Shut down, then start in safe-mode (hold shift key while re-starting). This will clear the font cache and re-build it. After doing this, when I started Word 2004 it took some time, but it showed the following fonts as corrupt: APC Courier, Bastion, Chicago TU, Courier TU, Latinski - and indicated they should be removed. Word then started up even though I just clicked OK to those messages and didn't remove them. I then re-started Word and it came up normally even though those fonts are still in the font book. By the way, I have downloaded the freeware app "Fontnuke-1.17," but haven't used it yet. There is a shareware app, "Fontfinagler," which may also be useful if safe mode doesn't work for you.

  • Podcast Producer and Xgrid setup - Jobs don't run

I've successfully setup an xserve here to be part of an OD setup, setup xgrid which is running successfully, and have Podcast Producer up and running and successfully running on the xgrid. However, when i open up podcast producer and go through the workflow process and submit, nothing happens except for temp folders stacking up in the podcast recording directory.
Only thing I could find was this error in the podcast producer logs:
Sat Nov 03 00:07:37 -0400 2007 -- Unknown exception while kicking off xgrid jobs: Fail to set key base: Base directory in /Volumes/Puma/Publisher/Podcast/Recordings/32E631A1-0B26-495B-B363-66FDDDDB233B /properties.plist

Not sure if this will fix your problem, but I was having the same problem until I looked at the specs for XGrid, it has to run on an Intel Mac. This is where you can get the specs:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306737
Here is what is in the doc:
    Podcast Capture requirements
Any Mac running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
iSight camera (built-in or external) or FireWire DV camcorder
    Podcast Producer Server requirements
Any Mac running Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard
Xsan for optional cluster file services
    Podcast Producer Xgrid rendering requirements
Any Intel-based Macintosh Server or Intel-based desktop Mac (a Mac Pro, for example)
Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard or Mac OS X Server version 10.5 Leopard
At least 1 GB of memory (RAM) plus 512 MB of additional RAM per processor core
At least 50 GB of available disk space
Xsan for optional cluster file services
    Quartz Extreme-enabled video chipset
Note: Quartz Extreme support can be verified in the Graphics section of Apple System Profiler.
Note: If a system is providing multiple Podcast services (for example, Podcast Producer and Podcast Producer Xgrid rendering), the system needs to meet both requirements.
