False "Invalid User Name or PAssword" message

Trying to restart my iMac with another user logged in I get a dialog telling me so and that I therefore need to enter an admin user name and password. When I do so I get "Invalid User name and Password" message even though the user name and password are correct admin's. I even changed them and the same thing happens. What's up?
Thanks for any help.

You may have the 'Loss of admin privileges syndrome'. The warning may not mean . the password is invalid but that it is not for what is now an admin. I and many others have had this from Leopard.
Try this, even if you have not enabled root do so now only to disable it after the exercise.
Insert the install DVD in any user. Restart holding down the 'c' key. Wait whilst the machine boots from the DVD. START (only) the install. When you have selected a language, do not proceed to install but pick fro one of the top menus the option in (utilities?) to re set password.
Choose to re set the root password. Think of a good long password with upper/ lower case letters/numbers/ and Shift+top line normal kb characters such as $.
Note said PW. Now choose from the top menus to reboot and reboot from HD. Remove DVD and login to root using PW just set.
In root go into System Preferences, choose accounts pane. Unlock the lock icon using if need be the root id and root PW. Highlight the 'errant' admin. Tick the little square box marked 'allow to administer computer, if it is not already ticked. If you have more than one admin (a good idea to have a reserve, admins can go wrong) repeat the 'tick' process with each.
Log out of root and into a normal admin. Go to directory services and you should find in the top menu and option to disable root. You did just enable it. Disable it.
My recived wisdom is it is better to have a root that has been enabled>> passworded>> disabled, than have a default of a disabled unpassworded root. It is worst to have a continuously enabled.
You now have an admin enabled to admin. If you still have a problem it may well be an invalid password. So come back.
This problem and the one of an (apparent) comnplete los of the admin account are plagueing these forums. If you hav not already done so upgrade to 10.5.2. Make sure you repair permissions before and after aqnd remove haxies first etc.

I am trying to enter my adobe id on my e-reader. I get a message that I have entered an invalid user name or password message. I know that they are both correct, I used them to log onto this site. Nook says this is an adobe issue. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Check your email settings (on your iPad) for that account and make sure the username and/or password are correct.

  • Invalid User Name or Password???  What the..???

    Hi
If I try to restart my MacBook when my daughter is logged in as another user, I am prompted for my administrator User Name and Password. I enter them. A message appears saying "Invalid User Name or Password. Try again."
Apparently the only way to restart is to first log out all other users. This is a big pain.
Does anybody have a solution to this annoying bug??
    Thanks.

    Hi Cameron
I read your initial post again this time under the light of the day with a clearer mind. I am not sure that what you describe is a bug. When fast user switching is enabled it is possible that another user that is logged in may have some unsaved work running. By restarting without logging the other user(s) out and/or without the admin (god in this case) password it means that the other user will lose his/her work permanently. Therefore, being the the devil's advocate here, I would call what you experienced a feature and not a bug. Just a thought...

  • "Invalid user name and password" when synchronizin...

I am getting an "Invalid user name or password" error on E71 after changing password on both Ovi.com web site and in sync profile on E71. Yes, I did make sure to enter the correct password into my ovi.com sync profile on the E71.

I agree.  I'm in the same region of the U.S. as you (McLean VA), and I bought the E71 unlocked so I could use my T-Mobile SIM and number with it.  Another plus is it works just about anywhere in the world.
As regards software, a lot of it just doesn't work (a la Ovi sync). There are some very nice third party apps, such as Joikuspot (WLAN anywhere) and Goosync (when it works, it's a good Google services sync tool). I am addicted to Comedy 104 on its internet radio application, and Mobbler is a pretty good way to get a last.fm-like experience on the phone.
Shame on Nokia for releasing a not-ready for prime time service, then not supporting it.  Very Microsoft-like!

  • DRM-61026: Unable to create user session for the following reason: Login failed. Invalid user name or password.

All Im very new to Oracle DRM and Im trying to get the app setup on Windows server running SQL Server 2008.  When I try to login to the Web Client I keep getting this error.
DRM-61026: Unable to create user session for the following reason: Login failed. Invalid user name or password.
    Can you please help

This might be due to The 'Oracle Instance' path may not have been set to a path relative to the 'CSS Bridge Host' (i.e. the Foundation Services machine) on the Configuration > Host Machines > CSS > General tab of the DRM Configuration Utility.
if this is the case then
    1. Open the DRM Configuration Console.
    2. Go to the Configuration > Host Machines > CSS > General tab of the DRM Configuration Utility.
    3. Ensure that the path in 'Oracle Instance' has been set relative to the 'CSS Bridge Host' (i.e. the Foundation Services machine defined in 'CSS Bridge Host').
    4. If corrections are made to 'Oracle Instance' then restart the DRM services to pick up the change.

  • I am trying to get into my iCloud account and it is saying invalid user name and password

I am trying to get into my iCloud account and it is saying "Invalid User Name or Password". I thought that you use your Apple I.D. and password, but that does not work! So, how do you reset your user name and/or password if you don't know what ones ICloud is seeking....

After resetting your password you might then need to log out of your account on your device by phone on your id in Settings > Store (Settings > iTunes & App Stores if it's on iOS 6) and then log back in so as to 'refresh' the account on it
If that doesn't fix it then you might need to contact iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page

  • Invalid User Name and Password when logging onto BPM Workspace (v9.3.1)

    I have installed Hyperion Planning and the related/required products. When I attemp to log on to Workspace, I get the following message;
'You must supply a valid User Name and Password to log onto the system."
I have tried using the native 'admin' account, and an NTLM account that I have setup. Both of these accounts work for logging onto the the User Management Console and to the Essbase Administration Console, and I have provisioned both of them with full admin privileges.
    Has anyone encountered this issue?
    Thanks,
    -K

Thank you all for the responses so far.
On the first response, I had already provisioned an NTLM user that is a member of the local Administrators group with all administrative roles, and also refreshed security in EAS prior to submitting this inquiry, so that did not solve the problem.
On the second, I cannot navigate to ../workspace/browse/configinfo without logging in so I am unable to review this information.
On the third response, where do you provision the user to BI+? If I open the User Management Console, there are four root roles each with a tree underneath: APS 9.3.1 Server, Analytic Servers, Business Rules, and Hyperion Shared Services. Under each tree, I have provisioned the 'admin' user and the NTLM user for all roles, including Administrator, Dimension Editor and Application Creator under Hyperion Shared Services -> Global Roles. Should there be a BI+ tree? If so, it is not appearing on the list.
Thanks for any additional info anyone can provide.

  • Problems with invalid user name and password

We have a one week old MacBook 2.2GHz basic white model that is generally working well.
However a problem has now arisen whereby on any attempt to shutdown or restart it won't accept the administrator user name and password, returning an 'invalid' warning. The issue seems to be the user name as the administrator password has worked OK in other situations. Naturally I have checked and re-checked the user name (which was in the form (first name followed by surname in upper and lower case) and it was OK (in any case it was being prompted automatically by the system.)
I have subsequently changed the administrator name (to the form first name only in upper and lower) and the password as suggested by the following article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306876
Nothing has changed. Can anyone help?

HI Martin, a late post to confirm the solution from the last post by using the "RETURN" key works..
(mouse click worked ok in Tiger 10.4.x I thought).
Tis was a delight and so obvious after seeing these symptoms.
I have posted this entry in case anyone else get's into this situation since OSX LEopard 10.5. Several people have encountered this issue where they may have:
    • LEopard 10.5.x installed
    • have 2 or more active users LOGGED into the OSX system via fast user / fastuser switching
    • request a SHUTDOWN or RESTART from an user
    • get a OSX request to supply administrator attributed user and it's associated password to validate SHUTDOWN | RESTART request,
    • have admin | root account verification failure of password after 'clicking'.
After some months of frustration, it seems a simple PRESS of the "RETURN key" works!
Simply, DON'T mouse click after entering admin user/password.... instead press "RETURN" key.
    fwiw.

  • Beehive Online - Invalid User Name or Password

    All,
Last week I was able to use OBEE to connect to an external workspace. This week every time i attempt to use OBEE or WebDAV for external or internal workspaces i get an error that says my user name of password is not valid. If I use IE/Firefox I'm able to log in without issue. I've try reinstalling OBEE without success.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dan Bartlett

    Dan,
OBEE and webdav use different access paths and it is unusual that both fail. Is this only occurring when accessing BeehiveOnline or do you get the same issue with stbeehive as well - the internal Workspaces.

  • Active Directory "Invalid User name and password" but have joined before

I have had a small handful of machine repeat the same thing. A workstation may still login but with an old PW, it will no longer authenticate to the domain. In times past I have been able to track the edu.kerberos.mit file and the directoryServices perference files. And then rebind the computer to the domain. These computers will begin to rejoin to the domain, but stop at step 3 which is verifying credentials and report and error saying my user name and password is incorrect, but they are correct. Keep in mind it goes through steps 1-3 very quickly. In the logs for Directory Services it tell me _Kerberos does not have a record for the server and it displays our domain controller. Then another right under saying Kpasswd does not have any record of the server. To me this indicates a Kerberos problem and KDC, which I understand runs locally on the machine now with Leopard. Keep in mind a new machine (machine I just imaged) will bind perfect.
Some machines even show still connected to the domain, one I could search via DSCL, but when I went to unbind it gave me a password error.
It seems like a password issue. Any suggestions?

    I don't have Vista...
I wonder if this will help:

  • Invalid user name or password

    Happy New Year, everyone!
I hope 2009 will be the year in which my computer problem is solved. It goes back to when I originally installed 10.5 in October 2007.
I am the administrator. My daughter is logged in as another user. When I need to restart the computer, I have to enter my user name and password. It is not accepted. The only way to get around this is to log in as my daughter, then log her out. In some cases, I have even had to log myself out too, before I can restart!
I took my computer to the Apple Store. I had to leave the computer at the Genius Bar for an hour for them to fix the problem. I don't know how they fixed it. In any case, the problem has returned, and the Genius Bar is some distance from my home.
I have posted this problem before, and tried various suggestions. None of them worked, including creating a dummy administrator account, and also going in to Keychain First Aid, and repairing both my password and my daughter's password.
It is possible that someday I will make it back to the Apple Store to have the problem fixed again, but I would appreciate some suggestions, to help me understand exactly what is wrong here. I know others are having this problem too.
Thanks for your help! Happy 2009 to all!
    Cameron MacDonald

If you have your "Leopard" DVD (could be a grey "restore" DVD that came with your computer), you can boot off of it by restarting with the disc in the drive and holding the "C" key down. When the OS X installer loads, select a language and then do not advance any further. Go to the "Utilities" menu and select "Reset Password", and follow the instructions to reset the password for your administrator account on the system. This should get things up and running again.
The overlying problem sounds like a directory corruption that will continuously knock out your authentication credentials. When you're logged in as your daughter's account, can you go to the system preferences and authenticate (by clicking the lock in one of the system preferences) as your own admin account? If not, then that signifies a directory corruption of sorts. The keychains have nothing to do with the directory and authentication system. All they do is use those credentials to store multiple passwords in one location for easy access, and are accessible AFTER you've authenticated at login.
