Family Sharing: Music, Photos + more won't share

Hi!
I've searched through the discussion here and this seems to be a really common problem. But I'm hoping someone can offer assistance! Right now I have a mac book air (under my name) and an Iphone 5S both registered to my Apple ID. I'm the "organizer" and am family sharing with my boyfriend who has an iPad registered to his Apple ID. I really wanted to family share not for the apps (I only download free apps) but so we could share our music / movies/ and photos . But when I set everything up nothing is showing up on the iPad. I can't figure it out! My Mac Book and iphone are configured to family sharing and so is the ipad. I've tried re-starting everything, and inputting our information into icloud numerous times. If anyone could offer any assistance I would really appreciate it!
Thanks!

http://Dumb69***@gmail.com hello sweetheart. Hope all is well. There is been many technical questions of this nature. However, I can help. First we need to do is sync everything together. I mean your life, your social standings and so forth I'll be in touch

  • Family Sharing Music w/ Match & 2 Apple IDs

I set up my Family Sharing and, ran Match successfully through Itunes to put all my music on the cloud (it took a few tries but all three steps completed for 2791 songs). When I try to access my music from the ID's I have varying results. On the devices with the same ID as the original account it appears all the songs are downloadable (just checked a few). But when I try accessing the music from my other ID it is totally random and only shows 247 of the songs available, most of which won't download anyway. I'll have some songs from an album make it over and others that won't. It doesn't appear to be related to whether or not I purchased them on Itunes or ripped them from my original CDs as I've seen some songs that made it across and others that didn't in both online purchases as well as original CDs. I ran Match again and it completed fine but no improvement on the itunes or music app end.
    Thoughts....

  • Family sharing and photo sharing iOS8

We have four iPhones, two iPads, a mac that is our family backup, and an Apple TV.  These all used to be logged into my Apple ID in order to share media purchases and the photos we all took.  With iOS 8 and family sharing, we are each logged into our own account on our own devices now.  The apps are sharing fine. However, I want the photos to share as they once did - the computer (Yosemite) is logged into my Apple ID still, so my phone's photos are uploading.  But what about everyone else?  It seems I can only log into one iCloud account for iPhoto.  How can I make photo uploads automatic once more?  Am I missing something? I thought we could share photos with family, but all I see now is a shared photo stream that we must voluntarily upload things to.

I too have this question, and have received nothing helpful wherever I have asked since the initial iCloud Photo Library announcement both here at Apple's Support Communities and elsewhere.
My plan is to go back to using a single Apple ID for all my family's devices and use iCloud Photo Library, but we will lose the ability to use Find My Friends for my family members.
Apple don't seem to have considered families who have family photo libraries when it comes to the new iCloud Photo Library. Considering the move towards Family Sharing, this is odd.

  • Family Sharing music issue

I have an iPhone 6 and a Macbook Pro that are both updated to the latest software versions.  I have family sharing turned on on both and have been able to successful download some music on both devices. There are many songs that I try and download though that are not successful. On my iPhone it just says its unable to download at this time, on my mac it acts like it downloaded and then when I go to play the song it tells me that the computer is not authorized and the box to authorize pops up.  This only happens with certain songs other songs play just fine and my computer has been authorized with my apple id forever.  Please Help!

    Hello Fallik,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact configuration you are describing. Family Sharing is normally used to share content between different accounts from multiple people in the same family. Is the content you are having issues downloading or playing content that was purchased by a different member of your Family Group? If so, you may find the information and steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Family Sharing music download error

I Just set up a family sharing group with my brother, and we can share apps, but when I try to download his music, I receive an error stating the fioe cannot be downloaded. He has the same problem with my music purchases. It's only the music that has this issue. App sharing is working fine. is anyone else experiencing this problem? Please help.

    Howdy mrscaskin,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you recently setup Family Sharing and are seeing an alert when trying to download a past purchase from the iTunes Store. The article linked below will explain the alert you’re seeing and provide information about using Apple IDs with multiple devices.
iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID
When you turn on iTunes Match or Automatic Downloads, or when you download past purchases on an iOS device or computer, that device or computer becomes associated with your Apple ID. Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined) associated with it, with a maximum of 5 computers at any time. Each computer must also be authorized using the same Apple ID. Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days. You can view which devices or computers are currently associated with your Apple ID, remove unused devices or computers, and view how many days remain before the devices or computers can be associated with a different Apple ID from the Account Information page in iTunes on your computer:
    Open iTunes.
Sign in to your Apple ID by choosing Store > Sign In from the iTunes menu.
Choose Store > View My Account from the iTunes menu.
From the Account Information screen, click Manage Devices.
Next to each device or computer name, you will be able to see when each device or computer was associated with your Apple ID. You will also be able to track how many days remain before your associated devices or computers can be associated with a different Apple ID.
    I hope this helps.

  • New phone, family sharing music all gone

    Hello all,
I just replaced my wife's phone.  We are both on iOS8.  I set up family sharing and I am the organizer.  When I set up her ID on her last phone we went into purchased music, movies, etc. and downloaded them to her phone.  When I replaced her phone today and restored from a iCloud backup, no music or movies are there.  With family sharing will my wife how to re-download music and movies every time she upgrades phones?  Do we have to go back through the long process of weeding though all my purchased albums etc.  I would've thought that once she downloaded everything she wanted once, iCloud would keep it all intact.
    Any info is appreciated!
    Bob

You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If other music is not on your computer or iPod it is gone.

  • Family sharing music who work on different computers

    hi everyone,
here is the question, which will start with a long explaination.
my desktop computer is the "main" computer of the house. i have about 35,000 songs on it in my itunes. everyone in the house (wife & son) uses my music (which is everyone's music) for their entertainment. when we buy music (either online or the physical cd) it's downloaded on my computer and into my itunes. my wife has a few songs on her itunes on her computer and my son is going to get an ipod touch and will start purchasing songs for that on a separate computer. so, we will have 3 computers that will potentially be purchasing different music. in addition to the 3 computers, i am relocating to a different city for work and will be commuting back and forth when i can. my question for the community is, how can we all share our music? since my son hasn't gotten his ipod touch yet and my wife doesn't have anything on her itunes yet (all of her music is on my computer and in my itunes), would it make sense for everyone to share my ID and password and then either email or dropbox purchased music (and imported music) to each other or is there a simpler, easier, better way to do this? i understand that we could share everything if we lived in the same house but since i'll be in a different location, i'm a bit stumped on how to make this work.
any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    brian

There are three ways to address your dilema:
    1) Most expensive and difficult to set up: Media server like the HP EX series ($500) and a VPN (virtual private network) capable router (~$150 to $200). All media goes onto the server. All PC iTunes are set to point to the Media server instead of the default folder on C:\   As new files are added to the media server the iTunes set to point to it will also 'see' the new files.   There are additional setting that have to be made but that's the overview.
    2) Cheapest and easiest to set up: NAS (Network attached storage) (~100 to 300). Like above all media goes onto the NAS. All iTunes are set to point to the NAS instead of the default folder on C:\  The disadvantage of course is that you will not be able to share your stuff or have access to the stuff on the NAS until you come home and resynch everything.
    3) Middle of the road: NAS and a VPN capable router.  The only real disadvantage here is that a NAS is pretty "dumb" and is slower than a media server. Especially if more than one person is using it. They also rely on the router explicitly for security since many do not have an OS to run security software. Some of the more elaborate NAS's do but when you start talking more than $200 I would consider a home media server instead.
    Hope this helps.
P.S. your account and password (iTunes store) will be needed for anyone that wants to use media that you've purchased regardless of which method you go with. The DRM license is stored on each individual computer that accesses it.

  • Family Shared Album - Photos does not appear

i like to create a shared family album.... I selected about 60 photos and created it.
the album was created by photo.... the family members see it, but there is no photos inside.....
I try to do this in some different ways but photos never appear. Do someone have the same problem?
    Thanks

Your album artwork cache may be corrupt. Provided most, if not all, of your artwork is embedded you can simply delete the Album Artwork folder that you will find inside your main iTunes folder and then scroll slowly through the library in Grid/Albums mode to rebuild it. Any images that were "downloaded" rather than embedded will need to be reacquired.
Threre are separate folders for the downloaded and cached images, but I've always gone for a complete rebuild so I don't know it would work to delete just the cached folder.

  • Delete family sharing calendar and photo stream

My family already has our own family calendars and photo streams. How can we delete the ones family sharing created?

Unfortunately you cannot share your photostream photos as you would like between different accounts, nor can you share iWork documents without emailing them to each other.
Whether this will change I have no idea, but if you have any suggestions that you think might enhance iCloud you can send Apple your feedback here.
As for other types of documents that will work with document and data syncing, that is already possible, Apple have provided the mechanism for other developers to make their applications work with iCloud. A few developers have already enabled their applications to work this way.

I'm trying to set up a child (under 13) via. my Apple ID/iPod touch.
There is no "Set up Family Sharing" option when we go to Settings > iCloud.
    What do I do?

    Hi Elliot,
Happy Holidays! To set up Family Sharing, you need to have iOS 8 on your iPod touch.  Check to see if you have updated to the latest version, which is 8.1.2 on your device.

iOS software updates introduce new features that let you do even more with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. Be sure to keep your devices up to date so that you don't miss out on the latest features.
    Before you update
Back up your device to iCloud or iTunes.
If you use your device's Personal Hotspot for your computer's Internet connection, update your device wirelessly or connect your computer to another network.
    Update your device wirelessly
The easiest way to update your device is wirelessly, also called “over the air.” Here’s how:
Plug in your device to a power source.
Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
Tap Download and Install. Updates might download automatically while your device is connected to Wi-Fi and a power source.
Tap Install, or tap Later to install the update later. If you use a passcode, you'll need to enter it before installing the update.
If you have some free space, but not enough to update over the air, you can either update using iTunes or delete content manually from your device. Whether you use iTunes or update over the air, you'll have the same amount of free space on your device after you update.

  • Which ID should I use for Family Sharing?

My family has  the same iTunes ID (is this now called an iCloud ID??) so that we were able to share music. We logged into iTunes on our computers and our iphones with all the same iTunes ID.    We all have different Apple IDs and logged into our computers and iPhones with that ID.   How do I implement Family Sharing so that we still have the OLD music and shared app??  And which email address do I send the invitation?

    Hi gottalovemymac,
When you join a family, you'll be asked to confirm the Apple ID that you regularly use for making iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases. Purchases from this account will be shared with your family members.

  • Calendar Sync Problems on iOS 8 Family Sharing

Before I upgraded my iPhone 5S and my wife's iPad Air to iOS 8, the iPad Air was using my iCloud account so my iCloud calendar was shared with my wife; we only need one mutual calendar that we can both read and write to.
After I had downloaded iOS 8, I read about the new Family Sharing feature of iCloud, which seemed ideal for us, in particular to share apps that one of us has bought which the other would like to use, and also to share a "Family" calendar.
So I deleted MY iCloud account from my wife's iPad and added HER iCloud account, merging the existing data with the new account, switched on iCloud Drive on both devices and then set up Family Sharing from the iPhone with me as the "organiser".
Now the apps and music sharing seems to work, each device can display the purchased items on the others device and download them if required. Very useful!
Unfortunately I can't get the calendar sharing to work on the iPad Air.
Calendars called "Family" have appeared on iPhone and on my "Desktop" Mac Mini (running OSX 10.8.5) and changes are shared. But items entered into the iCloud calendar from iPhone or Mac appear on each other but do not appear on the iPad Air. The iPad Air has no "Family" calendar. The "Notes" app behaves similarly.
I've since learned that I should not have switched on iCloud Drive since this reconfigures iCloud servers and prevents sharing if one of the devices does not have OSX 10.10 Yosemite.
Also the Support Profile at https://supportprofile.apple.com/ shows the iPad Air under MY Apple ID and password, not my wife's. Should I change this?
I've tried switching off iCloud Drive on both iPhone 5S and iPad - this made no difference.
Do I have any course of action other than waiting for the release of OSX 10.10 Yosemite?

I too, shared an iCloud with my husband. I just put us into separate iClouds and the family sharing program. We like to use the notes app to write grocery lists and camping lists etc. I noticed when I switched to family sharing that they would not now share acrossed all  4 of our devices. What I did to work around all of that was I now use my yahoo notes and contacts lists like I did the iCloud when we had the same iCloud. I put the default account on both notes and contacts as Yahoo. That way it would share acrossed all four devices like it used to when it was in iCloud. If I want to share a note or contact with just my phone and iPad then I write it in the iCloud and it just shares between my two devices. Gmail also has the notes and contacts list function. I didn't have any issues with the Calendar I just set the default calendar to family calendar. This worked really well for us, I hope it works for other people as well.

  • Family sharing not allowing me to make purchases without using my husband's payment method

My Husband and I recently took the plunge and joined Family Sharing.
Having pretty hectic lives, we haven't worked it all out as yet - and today, I tried purchasing an App - and all of a sudden I am being required to use my husbands iTunes account and Payment Methods, rather than my own, which I have used for many years.
We did make my husband the organiser, however, I am on the account as an adult, and find this sudden change invasive and unacceptable.   Nothing in the literature explaining family sharing says that the adult who is not the organiser, can no longer control their own purchases and purchase methods.
we love the idea of family sharing for photos, movies, apps, books etc ....  However I do not want my purchases and subscription communications to go through to my husband.  We are both busy, independent adults - and although we have nothing to hide from one another, what we each do should be communicated to and controlled by each of us.
I just called support, and they are telling me that there is nothing they can do about this ?
Anyone got any advice, or experiences to share ?  TIA

Your purchases will be charged against the Organizer's charge card on file, but they will reside under the Apple ID that you are purchasing them under (so if later, you were to leave Family Sharing, they would be "owned" by your Apple ID). If you have a gift card on file for your Apple ID, it will take the funds from the gift card first before going to the Organizer's charge card, but the entire set-up of Family Sharing is one that is designed to charge all purchases against the Organizer's card on file.
How is the set-up invasive, exactly? Family Sharing is primarily designed for families, especially ones with small children. The FAQs and ad pages are very clear about the fact that the Organizer pay for all purchases:
