Favourities boxes wont open

I have had this problem for about a week, when I try to use the favourites sites I have saved - none of them open. A kind of highlight box appears around the choosen and there is a very small square in the upper right corner of this highlight box.
I have uninstalled firefox and reinstalled it (with computer restart), but this issue still remains.
I have taken a screen dump but cant figure out how to upload it here.
Firefox still seems to save sites in my favorites. Now if I select the Show all bookmarks then choose a folder which gives me my chose site I can then click on the site and it works fine, just cant select from the drop down menu and have no idea what this highlight with the little square is, but nothing opens so I can select.
I am NOT a very good computer person, and often have to have things spelt out very simply

Favourites boxes wont work

Help - about a week ago I have been unable to select any thing in any of my favourites listings.
When I click on the favourites tab, and then go to bookmarks then take my cursor down my list of favourite sites to select the one I want, I get like a ghosting of a highlight box and this has a very small square in the top right hand corner of the highlighted box, nothing opens this ghosting moves as the mouse moves.
Now if I select open all bookmarks, and choose either an individual site, or a folder with same sites saved, I can click on my choice and it will open from there.
On ringing my local computer tech, he suggested uninstalling, restarting and reinstalling firefox which I have done but nothing has resolved itself.
I have taken a screen shot of the ghosting, but have no idea how to attach it to this query - I have gone through all the troubleshooting stuff but still cant find any questions or stuff that seems to be anything like the problem I am having.
Due to this problem, I have had to start using Internet Explorer which I hate and this is a program I have not used for nearly 7 years since I first had Mozilla installed by my computer tech.
Hope you can help me, and I really need things spelt out as simply as possible as I am not a computer person as such.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do not click the Reset button on the Safe mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

Text SMS in my mail box wont open after few days

I am facing this problem since few days as my curve phone is not opening up the text sms which are in mailbox 10 days older or before that. it will just open the message without any contents. text icons are converted to green for all these sms

My scan dialogue box wont open...how do i fix this

My preview box wont isn't working, and my project won't open

Not only does the video not play back in the preview box (but it will play back in full screen), but I have a project that wont open at all. Its a seven minute video so far and it suddenly wont let me view it. Its still listed under Project Library but I cant access it. This happened after my iMovie froze while I was playing the project back.
My system preferences are updated, and I read and followed someones elses directions to delete both "com.apple.iMovieApp.plist" and "com.apple.iApps.plist" but that didnt do anything. This is all on my desktop so I cant take the whole thing into apple! Lol. Please any suggestions would help. I put so much time into it I would hate to have to start all over again! Especially with no preview box working :/

Ok figured out that my project was corrupt (idk how) and when I removed it out of iMovie projects folder than the preview box started working again... How confusing.

App Store wont open & Letter A's in Boxes, please help!

Having an absolute nightmare so any help is greatly appreciated.
Firstly I noticed that on websites such as YouTube I'm seeing the letter 'A' in boxes where there should be words.
After reading many posts about this I've still found no solutions. I've tried software to clear my caches and attempted all sorts of restarts (safe mode and NVRAM restart). I've tried pretty much every solution that I can find online. I can't even open Font Book to take a look, I click on it and nothing happens.
This is the same for the App Store. I click on it and it wont open. The icon bounces on the dock for a second and then nothing happens. The icon for the app store has also changed to a piece of paper with a couple of pens in front of it?
Completely baffled as to what has happened here.

You are welcome. Are you having problems with any other applications?
Try a restart.
Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.

Yep, another issue Speed Grade CC wont open. Just hangs in loading position.
Re installed it a few times. Have used the adobe cleaner tool still nothing?
Is it a bug going round? recent updates that only apply to specific settings!?
Essentially need speed grade to open.

If you want us to help, please provide system info and Sg build number.
What could help:
- Make sure Sg is updated to the last version
- Delete the preferences files, see here: SpeedGrade 7.2 crashing on startup

hello im new to this so excuse me if im rambling.
Ive recently updated software when turning on my mac when it offered it automatically and now my itunes wont open. A box comes up saying " the application itunes quit unexpectedly. other applications are not affected. click reopen to open the application again" blah blah...
And of course it wont open if i repeatedly try.
Can any of you lot tell me what i can do to rectify this and save me a whopping £35.00 that apple isists on getting if you want any help from them via the old phone!

You did not indicate the name(s) of the automatic Software Update. Was it just an iTunes update?
Run the Repair Permissions (Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility) then Restart your computer. Relaunch iTunes.
If iTunes fails to open, disconnect any Firewire/USB peripherals (except Mouse) and reinstall that same version from the Apple Downloads Website, then repeat the above Repair and Restart.

Itunes wont open just re-instail it opened first time and now it wont

I had a problem with quicktime that forced me to unstail it and itunes and after the first time opening itunes after re-instailing it, it wont open. What am I supposed to do?

i have the same problem
i recently updated itunes when it prompted me....it was working fine until after the update
now it just flashes on the screen for all of a second when i try to open it, then disappears and that error box comes up
i did the repair several times, then deleted it completely and reinstalled it, but i still get the same message

my itunes wont open at all on windows 7 it worked at first but now not at all.
i have tried every fix i can find online and nothing.
-checked if it was user
-checked quicktime
-tried opening in safe mode
-uninstalled several times
-checked roaming files

The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it, which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.

Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.

Safari Wont Open Any Web Page

I just updated my Safari to 3.1.2 and now it wont open any web page. I know my system is fine as I also have Firefox and it works great. I have tried reseting Safari, emptying the cache deleting the plist, but nothing works. I have even tried deleting Safari and downloading the latest version from the apple website and re-installing it. No dice either. Safari seems to be working fine but it wont opent any website. Everything just time's out. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try this:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
form values
download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
com.apple.Safari.plist
Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.

Many, including me, have also followed the advice given by others here to add DNS codes to their Network Settings, with good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
208.67.222.220
208.67.220.222
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
