FCE Crashes on Export Quicktime conversion

Have captured and edited DV PAL. All goes well until Export-Using Quicktime Conversion. Software shuts down. All data lost from project. Anyone any ideas?
Running FCE 4.0.1 in Leopard on an intel macbook with 2ghz of ram.

Exactly what QT Conversion settings are you using?
Just in case there is a problem with FCE, delete the user preference files as described here:-
http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24195?viewlocale=enUS&locale=enUS
Note that you will have to reset your Easy Setup and any special preferences you may have configured.

Final Cut Express FCE Crashes when exporting to Quicktime or Quicktime conversion!
This started completely out of the blue last night. The export gets about 30-50% done and FCE disappears from the screen and the "FCE quit unexpectedly" message pops up. This has never happened before and I was doing exports of this very project all week. All other projects won't expect, the current project won't export when brought into a new file, I tried reinstalling FCE, and I deleted the pref files spoken about in the forum.
    Any Ideas!!!????

    Try repairing permissions and re-boot.

  • Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 crashes when using QuickTime conversion export

Our copy of Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 has started to crash when exporting using QuickTime Conversion. It gets about 66% complete, then dumps out. I have updated FCP using Software Update and QT to the latest version. Any ideas why this happening? Pro Kit 4.5 installed. QuickTime Pro 7.4.5
My previous post had the wrong version of FCP. Dyslexia sets in.

    Erik:
quite often during render I get the error messages "The specific file is in use by another application"
    Check this Apple doc:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302790
I think that was solved with 10.4.10.
About the crash problem, you would post the system configuration of that computer.
    Hope that helps !

  • FCE crashes when export using Quick Time

    Hi All,
When I select "Export - Using Quick Time Conversion", FCE crashes. I tried to repair permissions and rebooted but it did not help.
Export using QT was working fine last week. I did some maintenance checks with Onyx over the weekend. Could it be the problem.
    Any suggestions for fix?

  • Is it possible to create a new preset for Export/Quicktime Conversion ?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to make a new export preset for the Export with Quicktime Conversion, in FCE HD 3.5
I am working on preparing a file for YouTube, and finding that some of the video effects render differently when exported, so I am having to render a couple of tests, but with YouTube's new 640x360 16:9 format, there is no easy way to do this other than checking the settings at each export. If one could make a new preset, it would be much easier. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    t

    thankyousir.
I think that Apple could add this, easily, as a feature to what, essentially, is QT Pro, and its embedded brother in FCE. Apple could also release a tiny update for QT including the new YouTube format... I haven't checked if iMovie knows about this new resolution, though it does upload directly to the tube itself.
    Thanks for your time,

  • Export Quicktime Conversion

What would be the best all around specifics for an exported movie file that contains only JPegs (about 300+) and .aiff music files?
It's basically a slide show of sorts, but the last time I exported it to check out how it would look on tv, the images would come out with blurry or sharpened sides as they would transition into eachother, and would sometimes turn black and white momentarily.
Also, it's looks a little "stretched" on the tv screen. Kind of like Violet Beauregarde that the end of Willy Wonka :P
    Thanks!

Since you are using FCE you should first choose the +sequence format+ for your movie depending on your TV (whether standard or HDTV) before importing your jpegs.
Assuming you'll show your movie on a standard TV your sequence format should be either DV-PAL (25 fps) or DV-NTSC (29,97 fps), I'm not sure what's used in Perto Rico. If you want a 16:9 format you should instead choose either DV-PAL Anamorphic or DV-NTSC Anamorphic.
Then after importing your jpegs and editing the timeline you should *Export/Quicktime Movie* (not Using Quicktime Conversion) and import the resulting .mov into iDVD.
    Some notes for SD:
    - the resulting quality will always be lower than the original jpeg quality, since the SD resolution is very likely lower than the original jpeg resolution
    - don't rely on the quality as shown by Quicktime Player, because this is not meant for interlaced video but progressive video; also the FCE Canvas cannot show the final quality on a Mac progressive monitor
    - you could check the movie quality while editing in FCE (without exporting and burning DVDs) by connecting your Mac to your TV through the firewire connection and a converter, or your camera used as a converter, from firewire to analog.
    - you may then fix each image and check right away how it will appear on your final TV by applying any useful filter: blur, antialias, etc.
If instead you have a HDTV you may use a sequence formatted with one of the Apple Intermediate Codecs available in FCE, and for sure you will get a better final quality.

  • Export-- Quicktime Conversion totally corrupts??? (help!)

    Ok,
in FCP 5.1.2 in an HDV timeline (1080i, Sony Z1U) my clips play fine.
When I export to quicktime movie, my HDV movie works great and I can convert it to other formats, including DV/NTSC standard def.
However, if I try to (directly from my HDV timeline) export to quicktime conversion (DV/NTSC codec, high quality, 720x405 standard definition 16:9) things get weird. some of my movie looks and sounds good, but seemingly random clips from my movie are out of sync. I examined it carefully and found that during the export, some clips actually shifted around timecode-wise. Hard to explain. Basically, within my exported SD movie, some clips from my timeline start a half second or so before they actually should.
My movie is a documentary. When it cuts to someone for an interview, for example, playing the timeline shows them begin speaking when they should. Export to an SD version, and suddenly when it cuts to the speaker, they are looking at the camera, and then blink a few times, and then begin speaking, even though the audio is playing out of sync now with the video. Somehow FCP is reaching into my clips' handles-- footage that is not even visible in any track-- footage that is before where the timecode says the clip should start.
examining the files directly in the finder reveals all to be well, as far as i can tell. but obviously there is corruption of some kind, either the codec or my drive. but I tried two different computers and it did the same thing.
anybody understand my problem? make sense at all? my FCP problems never seem like problems others have had.

I think you need to do that render/resolve thingie before exporting HDV...

  • Exporting Quicktime conversion

I've got some DVCPro HD footage from an HVX I shot recently and edited. I'm trying to export the cut via Quicktime conversion H264. It exports fine but always 4X3 (Squeezed). I can't find a setting to tell it to export 16X9, the way it was recorded, although in the preview when checking settings it shows as 16X9. Any ideas? TIA

What Lamont said. You have to change the dimensions to still be a 16:9 ratio. I so 620x360...which is half 1280x720...

  • Imovie '11 crashing when exporting quicktime file

I want to export very short video clip from imovie11 with qtime to a 720HD at 60fps, but it keeps crashing... when I right click on the icon in the dock, it says that "application not responding". Is this normal because of the C2D macbook not powerful enough? Should I leave it alone for a few minutes to see if it will come back??? Haven't been successful exporting via qtime, but had success via export movie from imovie natively as 720p... What is the difference??

Actually I have 6gb of ram now! LOL
I was thinking of swapping the 2gb stick for another 4gb stick = 8gb ram. Because sometimes I use parallels desktop... but for my casual needs, I rarely max the ram. But I was able to finally do this, by deleting (actually just copy the imovie.plist file to the desktop) started imovie again like it was the first time, exported the video via quicktime and adjusted the settings. I was able to out put to 60fps/59.94fps at 720p. It took a while, but it did it! I don't know why resetting the plist affected it. But it worked!
Now if I could just improve the quality!!! The original videos are so crisp! and sharp! but after importing and exporting, there is so much noise and huge pixels... I wonder what happen to the 720p??? (same thing happened to a 1080p video) Not HD! that will be another post... but if anybody has an answer now...I'll appreciated it very much

  • Export Quicktime Conversion - slow when I walk off and leave computer?

Has anybody noticed this issue - when I export using QT conversion - and I walk off to leave it - it seems like it takes much longer than if I sat using the computer keeping it 'awake'...Well - I say awake but the OS doesnt go into sleep...
Sometimes if I return to check on it and wake the monitor - the % is often at say 23% - but will shoot up when I return...as if it had some sort of freeze...either way its **** slow and Im starting to look at Premier Pro...
    Any ideas?

That's the monitor refreshing after you woke it up. Quite normal.
    either way its ** slow...
You didn't tell us the codec that you are converting from or the codec you are converting to.
How long is the movie and how long is "slow"?

  • KNOWN PROBLEM BUT NO SOLVING: FCE CRASHES ON QUICKTIME CONVERSION EXPORT

    Hi to all,
i'm an italian new user. I already use FCP on my Mac Pro 2007,and i purchased FCE for my new MacBook 2008 3GB Ram.
I use Snow Leopard for both machines. FCE is installed only on MacBook. The issue is:
When i put ANYTHING on timeline (effect, clips of ALL formatsetc) indipendently from Sequence presets,FINALCUT EXPRESS CRASHES IMMEDIATLY WHEN I TRY TO EXPORT TO "QUICKTIME CONVERSION". No messages,no report, nothing.
I searched and read many pages of this forum,i found a similar thread where the suggestions were the erase of preferences in Libray and reinstalling. I DID THAT but FCE crashes again.
I'd like to resolve the problem on this machine, because i will use FCE on this computer.
Follow, there is a sample video of my problem,i captured it for this thread. I hope will help you to understand exactly i want to repair:

    Tom,
This is an excellent tip. I really learnt something I wasn't aware of. FCE always seemed to render anyway but it takes longer if you did not render first. But you are right. The manual mentions it as well.
Anyway, it does not explain really why, with Quicktime X installed, I and others experience FCE crashes. Before with Leopard , FCE really never crashed.
Contrary to what I mentioned, I still experience crashes, also after full rendering. Strangely enough, it does not happen all the time. It seems difficult to reproduce the circumstances when FCE crashes on export. Any suggestions?

  • Premiere and Media Encoder Crashing During Export of Quicktime Files

Premiere CC and Media Encoder CC crashes when exporting Quicktime H.264 files. Sometimes the export will work, sometimes it crashes the app. After crashing, the app will freeze while loading "ExporterQuictimeHost.bundle" and requires a hard re-boot of the system to startup again.
I have tried removing some Quicktime codecs from the Quicktime library folder, as suggested in other threads. This has not solved the problem.
I am editing with Quicktime ProRes 4444 files.
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Here's some system info:
    Mac Pro Mid 2010
    OS X 10.9.4
    2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    36 GB Memory
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 4800 1536MB
    Blackmagic DeckLink HD Extreme
    Cuda Driver Version 6.5.14
    Creative Cloud CC 2014

I'm having similar problems. I can't export anything now...either from Premiere or from Media Encoder. My sequence is ProRes HQ, I am exporting using sequence settings.
It gets about 75% of the way through and bails with this error message:
    Export Error
    Error compiling movie.
    Unknown error.
That's really helpful. Addtionally, when I tried to export out of Media Encoder, I was greeted by an extremely loud bleating goat noise when it failed. Nice. I had a room full of clients. Thanks Adobe.
I'm seriously doubting the claim of "Pro" at this point.
This was not beta tested with a ****.

  • Quicktime Conversion for PS3

I have the HV-20 and a PS3, I'm trying to put a test clip on a USB drive then watch in HD through my PS3. Sony says the PS3 can only use MPEG-4 format, so I used FCE to do a quicktime conversion and export the clip into the correct format. It comes up under MP4 (ISMA) but I could only get the custom field under image size to come up using just MP4. I messed up and used the 1920x1080, when the HV-20 only does 1440x1080, but still when I played it on the PS3 not only did it look horrible it was also in 4:3 instead of 16:9 ratio. Why is this? Can you tell me which settings will give the correct look on playback with the PS3?

OK, I just tried a size "passthru" export encoding and got a "unsupported data" error on the PS3 with 2.1 firmware! I believe these files had previously played back in 4:3 format (literally 1440X1080 with no horizontal expansion) using previous firmware.
The coding times are so long it is difficult to run through all of the possible combinations in a reaonable amount of time.
The file does play back in 4:3 in QT player. Evidently, the 2.1 firmware either disabled 1440X1080 video or added a check to refuse playback with no anamorphic expansion flag set.
In a way it kinda makes sense that QT would play it because it has to support odd sizes such as that, whereas 1440X1080 non-anamorphic would not be a standard HD format.
I opened the file in QT-PRO and scaled the horizontal width as follows:
    window-->show movie properties-->select video track-->visual settings-->uncheck "preserve aspect ratio" -->revise horizontal "scaled size" to 1920 -->file-export mp4-->options-video format "passthrough"-->save
The file now plays in 16:9 in QT, but still shows as "unsupported data" on the PS3.
from searching the web, I get the impression that the mp4 specification for horizontal scaling has somehow diverged from the original QT method. From there it seems to digress to people resorting to low level HEX editors to sort things out (good grief!).
    reference---http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=988006&postcount=2838
Actually, I am not sure why a scaling flag would even be required for true HD since there is no legitimate 1440X1080 4:3 aspect ratio format in the AVCHD spec

  • Quicktime conversion taking too long

this is my first time using final cut pro.
for my class, i've created a video that is 7 minutes long using mpeg-4 clips with AAC audio. they're pretty small clips, 320X240, and fully rendered.
we're supposed to present our projects next week to the class and so today i tried exporting the video i created using Quicktime conversion, but the status bar told me it would take 40 minutes to fully convert, and it only kept going up from there.
what am i doing wrong? under movie settings window that pops up, i clicked on default settings, but changed compression to h.264 (cus everywhere i've read has said it's faster), changed the dimensions to match 320X340, and changed the audio format to AAC with a 128 bit rate.
is this correct? i know i probably shouldn't have used mpeg-4 files to edit, but i hadn't known that until i read it here, today. i've also read that since i'm using mpeg-4 files, i shouldn't have tried exporting it as a h.264 file. is that true? could that have been the reason why the conversion was taking so long?
your help/advice is very much appreciated.

let's put it this way. if you do File>Export>Quicktime you'll make a quicktime file with the same compressor as your sequence and it'll render faster. If you select File>Export>Quicktime Conversion you can make a quicktime file with a compression of your choice. (although the conversion process takes time). so you could compress it into a DVCPRO 50 quicktime, or an uncompressed quickime or H.264 quicktime. any of these settings will play in quicktime. These you can select through the options button in the converter window. we just suggest you use Export>Quicktime because it's faster easier and it's useless in your situation to convert.

  • 22-Frame Quicktime Conversion sych error

Does anybody know about this anomaly?
On certain clips in a heavily-edited sequence, the QT-converted output file contains clips with the audio out of synch. On the examples I've tested, the error is video 22 frames ahead of audio.
The workaround is to locate the OOS clips in the output file, then move the audio in FCP ahead by 22 frames. Works!
But why does this happen in the first place? Who else had has this experience?

I have experienced the same thing, there is a lag in offsets using QuickTime Conversion.
Most recently, I noticed it when exporting a still image through QuickTime Conversion. The canvas will actually change approximately 22 frames when you open the Export - QuickTime Conversion window so you can preview this error while you are going through the motions. (I noticed it was about 25 frames, but I did not do a rigorous test.)
In another example, the video actually scratched backward during the QuickTime clip causing it to go out of sync with the audio.
In general, I have not used Quicktime Converion successfully since upgrading to HDV. Relying instead on Compressor, but missing out on some of the ease, convenience, and other options available through Quicktime Conversion.
Anyone have any ideas? Does FCS 2 handle this stuff better?
