Hi, I have a question.. will FCP 5.1 work on snow Lep? Planning to get a imac i5 but dont want to buy the upgrades... thanks..

Don't know for certain but it probably will.
In any case, when you get your new iMac you can try it and see.
FCS3 upgrades can be obtained cheaply on eBay . . . . but check out the seller first!

Hi all, Yes I paid the upgrade and have the all new fc studio with fcp 7 etc and all is Ok. apart from compressor rubbish at hdv to sd dvd of course,
I have just got delivery of snow lep which is apparently mcuh faster etc, does it mess for final cut studio or is the upgrade install easy and works well?

TIme Machine not working after upgrade to snow lep.

I just updated to snow lep version from lep and now my time machine can't backup. It give an error message of "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Kelly Turner's Time Capsule/Kelly Turner’s iMac.sparsebundle” could not be created (error 22)."
I try to open airport utility and it finds my time capsule, but when chosen, this error message "Make sure your AirPort wireless device is plugged in and in range of your computer or connected via Ethernet and try again. (-6722)" comes up after a long search to find configurations.
When open time capsule utility, it shows the capsule, but hangs when "making backup disk available" and fails to start backup.
I have had this setup for four years and not problems with connectivity or backups. I can still get on internet using wireless with airport, but the time capsule can't see it.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
It sounds like you need to reset your Time Capsule; probably a "soft reset" is enough. See [Resetting an AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule FAQ|http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728].
You might also need to do a "full reset" of Time Machine, per #A4 in [Time Machine - Troubleshooting|http://web.me.com/pondini/Time_Machine/Troubleshooting.html] (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Oddly enough, the name of your Time Capsule may be part of the problem. See #C9 in Troubleshooting. Why it sometimes works for a while, then suddenly doesn't, is a mystery.

Itunes wont open after snow lep upgrade

upgraded to snow lep. went through all software updates rebooted multiple times. Itunes wont launch, when I double click it gives me an unexpextedly quit window, downloaded itunesx reinstalled....nothing...........so an apple app, doesnt play well with an apple os?

It is likely an issue with the iTunes Library file.
You can rebuild it by following this article:

If you rebuild the library, it should take care of the problem. I would make sure you have a Time Machine backup before starting any major task, just in case something wrong happens. Better safe, than sorry.

My Mac Pro running 10.6 Snow Lep cannot connect to App store. I want to upgrade to Mountain Lion but cannot. Can anybody help?

You need to be running at least 10.6.6, and 10.6.8 is better. If you have the App Store icon, you are probably already at that version.
10.8 is not available to all Mac Pro 65lb tower models. Those made before the 2008 model will not be able to Upgrade at any price.
10.7 is available if the mac App Store is working, but you will need to CALL Apple Online Store Support to arrange to buy it over the phone. They will sell you a special download code.

Sounds like a corrupt/conflicting font problem. Launch Font Book, select all fonts, and validate fonts and resolve duplicates.

I changed the format of my external HD to GUID so I could boot form the disc. It now takes about 3 min. for the computer to find the disc, so it will not boot form the disc even tho a bootable system (snow lep) is on the disc.

I'm going to follow up, in hopes that my misfortunes may someday benefit others and prevent them from having the same issues...
It turned out that the sole problem was the burner not caring for the first blank DVD+R DL's I'd gotten for it. (Fuji, by the way.)
Although I'm definitely relieved, I can't believe I went through that much heartache...and it turned out to be something so stupid!
Well, it's now working like a champ...so I'm happy!

Yes, so long as you run Software Update and get all patches before trying to launch any of the FCS apps.

I had this problem. Double clicking the WMV file produced the message you had. However, if I open by dragging the WMV file onto the QuickTime X icon in the dock it did indeed open.
I then looked at the WMV's Get Info window and found that it was set to open in WMV Player by default. Obviously I do not have WMV Player installed. The drop down menu on this setting did have QT Player as the other option. When I changed the option to QT Player as default the "Change All" button became active. Previously it had been greyed out. Things have been OK since, but I have not tried it on any new WMV files.

X Code upgrade from Snow Lep to Lion a pain in the ..

having HUGE hassles trying to upgrade my X code from Snow Leopard to Lion..encountered this problem by clicking on my Xcode program only to get a message along the lines of...only worked with Snow Leopard..so I downloaded new version from App store and it continually fails i have deleted older Xcode version..but still the same..have gone to resources file and ran installer..keep getting: The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail..contact software manufacturer for assistance.I've tried to find an answer on forums but nothing has worked..sorry folks but I dont like Lion theres been a raft of hassles with this O/S its Apples Vista..its frustrating I paid for last Xcode version..now its free and i cant install it !!..anyone with ideas on how i can install Xcode for lIon considering the issues I have outlined would be greatly appreciated....thanks

Drag the Xcode folder to the Trash and restart. Run the Installer.

Problems opening CS2 ai files in CS4 under Snow Lep op system

I am finding I can't open files created in CS2 with CS4. I didn't have any problem on the PC but on the Mac the files won't open. The operating system is Snow Lepoard. Anyone have any ideas as why this is happening? They are 165 mb files but I never had any problems on the PC so my guess is it is the new Mac op.

I feel like they'll work. Worst case, maybe I can pay someone a few bucks to throw them into AI and change to compatibility mode if I have any problems.
I did work with an artist's CS4 files when I was on CS2 and the only thing it seemed to do was add a couple of weird paths. So if you selected all the items in a piece of vector art and it set the frame around it to show the selection, it would include an area of white space, normally below the artwork because there was some random point down there -- deleting it solved that problem... Hopefully it's the worst thing that will happen.

Macbook Pro 17-Cannot install Snow Lep. How to solve the error message GUID

When I try to install Snow L., I get the error that my disk did not use the GUID partition table scheme. The install prog says to use the disk utility to change the partition scheme. It further says to select the disk and then the partition tab, and then the volume scheme and then use the option button to change it. Problem is that when I get that far, the option tab is greyed out. There is only one partition. This laptop was factory new January of this year. How do we do this without erasing everything and starting over?

Regardless of your current dilemma you need to have a least one complete backup in some form. Disk drives fail - not if, only when.
You should get an external drive with enough capacity to contain a complete backup.
You can make a bootable clone using either:
SuperDuper! which I use. You can find it [here|http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html]
or Carbon Copy Cloner which many people also highly recommend which can be found [here|http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html].
SuperDuper! has a free version that will make a bootable clone, and Carbon Copy Cloner is donation ware.
Time Machine is also a good option.
I would start with a bootable clone. All it will cost you is the drive.
With a bootable clone you can boot it and verify that you have a working clone of your system before messing around with the MacBook Pro's internal drive..
I backup everything twice via 2 different methods: Time Machine to a Time Capsule and SuperDuper! to an external drive.
I learned the hard way that all disk drives are subject to failure even backup drives. I was very lucky, the backup device failed immediately after I had restored my wife's data to a new laptop after the laptop's drive failed.
I went to make a new backup of the new laptop and the drive was dead.
Disks are cheap and getting cheaper. If you value your data you need to have backups.

Installation fcp 7/update to snow leopard

Is it wise to install fcp7 on a newly formatted HD with Leopard and then update to Snow or would it be wiser to do all the system installation first and then install programme? I ask because Snow is delayed in the mail.

I'd wait and do a full clean install of 10.6 first, then FCS 2009. A complete clean and fresh install is always going to be more predictable.

Trouble with FCP since Upgrading to Snow Leopard

I intentionally waited to upgrade to Snow Leopard to assure the bugs were worked out. Everything ran well on Leopard on my MacPro. Once I did the upgrade most everything has worked well. One very strange occurrence has me baffled and I hope someone here may have the answer. When I use the Audio Mixer in the program I notice that once I make an adjustment to a level then release the mouse, the audio plays for a moment then goes silent. Once I click on a slider again or hit the space bar to stop then start the playing of the track again, the audio returns until I adjust the sliders again. Anyone experienced this? Did not do this in Leopard. How might I fix this annoying problem.

When upgrading editing systems to new versions of the MacOS, it is always advised to backup your computer, or clone the current working drive, then erase it and install the OS and your applications from scratch. Upgrading the OS around your current working system, about 90% of the time, presents small issues here and there.

Migrating from Tiger to Snow Lep

I'm trying to transfer some applications and files from my old mac with Tiger to my new one with Snow Leopard.
I start up migration assistant, follow the steps, both machines say preparing information, then the old mac asks for the code again and loses the new computer and the new computer just keeps on 'preparing information'.
Any idea what might be going on or what else I can do? The CD/DVD drive on the old machine doesn't work. Both machines are connected to the same wireless network. I do have a Time Capsule.

I'm not sure I would do what you are trying to do. I would either turn on File Sharing on your old computer and share its hard drive. From the new computer I would log into the admin account on the old computer by accessing it on the network using the Connect to Server option from the Finder's Go menu. Then transfer what you need by normal drag and drop.
Alternatively, and faster, connect the two via FireWire cable, then boot the old computer into Target Disk Mode and the new computer normally. The old computer's drive should appear on the new computer's Desktop. You can then access the drive through the Finder and transfer your data and files.
if your files are on the TC you should be able to restore them to the new machine using Time Machine. But do not allow the new computer to use your TC for a backup just yet. After you restore whatever files you need then you can let TM backup the new computer to the TC.
