FCP 7 Finished Project Seq from 60fps to 23.98 fps

Thank you in advance.
I've been editing for a company which had transcoding issues with source footage recently, and long story short I had to re-encode all of the footage to the proper settings before editing, which is:
23.98 fps / Frame size: 960 x 720 / compressor DVCPRO HD 720p60/30/24 / pixel aspect HD (960x720).
During this process, probably when first noticing that something was very wrong with the footage, my main sequence was set to 59.94 fps, I did not notice until the project was 95% complete.
So now I have an entire video finished at 59.94 fps, it won't let me convert the sequence to 23.98, and even when it does all of the transitions and so forth are in 60 fps mode (which is how I discovered the frame rate very late, why is a 4 frame transition so fast??).
This is essentially an offline edit and when I drop the project folder I need to reconnect all of the properly transcoded footage which is 23.98 fps.  I am anticipating some major issues here, but at least the files should reconnect, I just don't know about the sequence ever changing from 60 fps.  I'd really appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you!

What you are going to have to do is make a new sequence that matches the settings you want. If they are to match a clip setting, then make a new sequence, drop a clip into it, and say YES when it asks if you want it to match. Otherwise, choose the easy setup you want and then make a new sequence.
Then, copy and paste ALL of the clips from the 60fps sequence into the 23.98 sequence.  Gaps between cuts will appear sporatically. These will need to be manually fixed. No way around this.  It'll take a while, but this is what you need to do.

  • How can I export a finished project from iMovie when the "share" function will not respond?

Hopefully someone might have an answer for me. I am trying to export a finished project to You Tube. However, when trying to choose the file, it does not show up in the finished project list. I have gone back to iMovie to see if I've made a mistake with finalizing it. It seems to be finalized, but I cannot share it to anything (You Tube, Facebook, iTunes). I click on share and it does not respond. I click on File, scroll down to share, it does nothing. Has anyone else had this problem? How did you reslove it?

I experienced the same problem as mreingrover. The Share features of iMovie appear to be completely unimplemented.
I had had MacKeeper installed for a short while on my previous Mac; never on my new MacBook Pro. I could not find any trace of it in Application Support, Launch Daemons, or LaunchAgents, in either my user Library or the root Library. But I figured maybe there was some trace somewhere that had been copied over from the old system, so I deleted iMovie and went to reinstall it from the App Store.
Now the App Store wants $14.95 for an app that has never worked right, and which is (I think) supposed to be free with my new MacBook Pro Retina.

  • How do i save a finished project to a thumb drive (IDVD)

I am very new to Mac and it may be simple but i cant figure it out. I want it to be on my thumb drive so i can plug it into another mac, go the the thumb and press play. again in the IDVD editing screen it works fine, but i cant get it to save to the disk drive or thumb as a finished project. any suggestions email me at hooziz2005 at gmail dot com ( that i how new I am to mac....i dont even think i could figure out ho to read any answer you guys may post to this question of mine!!! Hello, hooziz,
    Welcome to the discussions.
iDVD should be thought of as a container that is used temporarily, just when you burn a DVD or encode the projects' data. The media is not stored within the project the way it is in iMovie. All the media used in iDVD are represented by a kind of alias, referring iDVD to actual file when the project is burned. So, if you move any media or even rename a photo, iDVD will not be able to locate it to burn your disk. Obviously then, if you move your iDVD project only, take it to another computer and expect to find all your photo, music and movie files there, you will not, because they are 'at home' on your computer.
If you want to be able to take your iDVD project to another Mac, you need to create a disk image file of your project. You do this in iDVD, by selecting 'save as disk image.' This process looks exactly like the burn process, but the end result is a disk image file, not a burned disk. The media information is encoded onto the disk image file, making it a self-contained file, so that all the media information is in that file. Now, you can transfer the disk image to a thumb drive and move it to another computer with all the data intact. You can burn a DVD disk from the disk image file using Disk Utility or Toast.
Many of us routinely create disk image files of our iDVD projects as a way to save the projects without having to save the original movies. iDVD disk image files take up less drive space. A disk image file can be used to burn DVDs. It also is a good way to determine if you have any problems with the encoding process.

  • Are there glitches in iMovie or iDVD that would create problems with viewing a finished project on a standard dvd player?

Everytime I render a new project in iMovie and share it with iDVD to produce a video, there always seems to be glitches in the finished project.  I have gone back and tried to recreate the slideshow, but have not had a whole lot of luck.  I am wondering if I need to delete the iMovie and iDVD applications from the computer???  If I do that will it fix my problem or will I even be able to redownload the programs without having to pay for them again?  I have spent more time and $$$ trying to get a viewable disc to burn and am ready to get rid of the computer altogether.  Hopefully that will not have to happen, but this is a constant issue that I go through everytime I work on a project.  Any suggestions???

    Hi
    Yes and No.
There are Bugs and ways to make better or Worse DVDs - see if this can help.
There are two "Bugs" (or at least one)
    • In iDVD - do not go back to video editing program - if You got Chapters set in Your movie - if You try - then now back in iDVD it will ask You to up-date ==> all Chapters will point to Chapter one. Medicine - create a brand new iDVD Project.
    • There MUST NOT BE any Chapter mark set in very beginning of the Movie - or in any transition or within 2 seconds from them.
    DVD quality
    1. iDVD 08, 09 & 11 has three levels of qualities. (version 7.0.1, 7,0.4 & 7.1.1) and iDVD 6 has the two last ones
    • Professional Quality
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - BEST (but not always for short movies e.g. up to 45 minutes in total)
    • Best Performances
(movies + menus less than 60 min.) - High quality on final DVD (Can be best for short movies)
    • High Quality (in iDVD08 or 09) / Best Quality (in iDVD6)
(movies + menus up to 120 min.) - slightly lower quality than above
Menu can take 15 minutes or even more - I use a very simple one with no audio or animation like ”Brushed Metal” in old Themes.
    About double on DL DVDs.
    2. Video from
    • FCE/P - Export out as full quality QuickTime.mov (not self-containing, no conversion)
    • iMovie x-6 - Don't use ”Share/Export to iDVD” = destructive even to movie project and especially so
when the movie includes photos and the Ken Burns effect NOT is used. Instead just drop or import the iMovie movie project icon (with a Star on it) into iDVD theme window.
    • iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not meant to go to iDVD. Go via Media Browser ( AND AS MEDIUM - not HD etc as DVD then will suffer in quality ) or rather use iMovie HD 6 from start.
    3. I use Roxio Toast™ to make an as slow burn as possibly e.g. x4 or x1 (in iDVD’08 or 09  this can also be set)
This can also be done with Apple’s Disk Utilities application when burning from a DiskImage.
    4. There has to be about or more than 25Gb free space on internal (start-up) hard disk. iDVD can't
use an external one as scratch disk (if it is not start-up disc). For SD-Video - if HD-material is used I guess that 4 to 5 times more would do.
    5. I use Verbatim ( also recommended by many - Taiyo Yuden DVDs - I can’t get hold of it to test )
    6. I use DVD-R (no +R or +/-RW) - DVD-R play’s on more and older DVD-Players
    7. Keep NTSC to NTSC - or - PAL to PAL when going from iMovie to iDVD
(I use JES_Deinterlacer to keep frame per sec. same from editing to the Video-DVD result.)
    8. Don’t burn more than three DVDs at a time - but let the laser cool off for a while before next batch.
    iDVD quality also depends on.
    • DVD is a standard in it self. It is Standard Definition Quality = Same as on old CRT-TV sets and can not
    deliver anything better that this.
HD-DVD was a short-lived standard and it was only a few Toshiba DVD-players that could playback.
These DVDs could be made in DVD-Studio Pro. But they don’t playback on any other standard DVD-Player.
Blu-Ray / BD can be coded onto DVDs but limited in time to - about 20-30 minutes and then need
    _ Roxio Toast™ 10 Pro incl. BD-component
_ BD disks and burner if full length movies are to be stored
_ BD-Player or PlayStation3 - to be able to playback
The BD-encoded DVDs can be play-backed IF Mac also have Roxio DVD-player tool. Not on any standard Mac or DVD-player
Full BD-disks needs a BD-player (in Mac) as they need blue-laser to be read. No red-laser can do this.
    • HOW much free space is there on Your internal (start-up) hard disk. Go for approx. 25Gb.
less than 5Gb and Your result will most probably not play.
    • How it was recorded - Tripod vs Handheld Camera. A stable picture will give a much higher quality
    • Audio is most often more critical than picture. Bad audio and with dropouts usually results in a non-viewed movie.
    • Use of Video-editor. iMovie’08 or 09 or 11 are not the tools for DVD-production. They discard every second line resulting in a close to VHS-tape quality.
iMovie 1 to HD6 and FinalCut any version delivers same quality as Camera record in = 100% to iDVD
    • What kind of movie project You drop into it. MPEG4 seems to be a bad choice.
other strange formats are .avi, .wmv, .flash etc. Convert to streamingDV first
Also audio formats matters. I use only .aiff or from miniDV tape Camera 16-bit
strange formats often problematic are .avi, .wmv, audio from iTunes, .mp3 etc
Convert to .aiff first and use this in movie project
    • What kind of standard - NTSC movie and NTSC DVD or PAL to PAL - no mix.
(If You need to change to do a NTSC DVD from PAL material let JES_Deinterlacer_3.2.2 do the conversion)
(Dropping a PAL movie into a NTSC iDVD project
(US) NTSC DVDs most often are playable in EU
(EU) PAL DVDs most often needs to be converted to play in US
UNLESS. They are play-backed by a Mac - then You need not to care
    • What kind of DVDs You are using. I use Verbatim DVD-R (this brand AND no +R or +/-RW)
    • How You encode and burn it. Two settings prior iDVD’08 or 09
Pro Quality (only in iDVD 08 & 09)
Best / High Quality (not always - most often not)
Best / High Performances (most often my choice before Pro Quality)
    1. go to iDVD pref. menu and select tab far right and set burn speed to x1 (less errors = plays better) - only in iDVD 08 & 09
(x4 by some and may be even better)
    2. Project info. Select Professional Encoding - only in iDVD 08 & 09.
    Region codes.
iDVD - only burn Region = 0 - meaning - DVDs are playable everywhere
DVD Studio pro can set Region codes.
    1 = US
    2 = EU

What it turned out to be was the "quality" settings in iDVD. The total clip time was NOT over 2 hours or 4.7GB, yet iDVD created massive visual artifacts on the "professional quality" setting.
I switched the settings to "high quality" which solved the problem. According iDVD help, "high quality" determines the best bit rate for the clips you have.
I have NEVER seen iDVD do this before, especially when I was under the 2 hour and 4.7GB limits.
For anyone else, there seem to be 2 places in iDVD to set quality settings, the first is under "preferences" and the second under "project info." They do NOT seem to be linked (i.e. if you change one, the other is NOT changed). take care, Mario
to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices
    • No other process running in background as - ScreenSaver, EnergySaver OR TIMEMACHINE etc
    • and I'm very careful on what kind of video-codecs, audio file format and photo file formats I use
    • and I consider the iDVD Bug - never go back to video-editor to change/up-date - if so Start  a brand new iDVD project
    • Chapters set as they should - NO one at very beginning and no one in any transition or within 2 sec from it
    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
Try to break the process up into two stages
    • Save as a DiskImage (calculating part)
    • Burn from this .img file (burning stage)
To isolate where the problem starts.
Another thing is - Playing it onto a Blu-Ray Player. My PlayStation3 can play BD-disks but not all of my home made DVDs so to get this to work I
    • Secure a minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk
    • Use Verbatim DVD-R (absolutely no +/-RW)
    • Set down burn speed to x4 - less burn errors = plays on more devices

    • Lay-out - Turn on TV-Safe area and keep everything buttons, titles etc WELL INSIDE not even touching it !
TO GET IT TO WORK SLIGHTLY FASTER
    • Minimum of 25Gb free space on Start-Up hard disk
    • No other programs running in BackGround e.g. Energy-Saver
    • Don’t let HD spin down or be turned off (in Energy-Save)
    • Move hard disks that are not to be used to Trash - To be disconnected/turned off
    • Goto Spotlight and set the rest of them under Integrity (not to be scanned)
    • Set screen-saver to a folder without any photo - then make an active corner (up right for me) and set
pointer to this - turns on screen saver - to show that it has nothing to show
    • No File Vault on - Important
    • NO - TimeMachine - during iMovie/iDVD work either ! IMPORTANT
    • Lot's of icons on DeaskTop/Finder also slows down the Mac noticeably
    • Start a new User-Account and log into this and iMovie get's faster too - if a project is in a hurry
    • And let Mac run on Mains - not just on battery

I tried to open a new project and everything works

the problem is that this project will take me a long, long time to rebuild

This recently happened to me.  I am a novice, but it seemed like that project got corrupted some how.
    I deleted it.
Went to time machine and picked it up again when I knew it was working ok.
I lost a few hours of work, but not the entire project.
Once I had the project back from time machine, it worked fine (but like I said, I lost a little bit of work).

  • CS3 How to archive finished projects and erase all draft materials without losing final versions.

I have two questions, both related to system management. The first is simple and the second is more complex.
First, I hate that every time I open a Premiere Pro project I have to remember to reset the scratch disc settings because they are carried over from the previous project rather than being project-specific.
Is there a workaround so that the scratch disc settings can be attached to each project so they don’t need to be reset each time one reopens a project?
Second, I presently distribute my work over four (4) 1-TB drives as follows.
Drive D contains my Premiere (prproj and related) files as well as Encore (ncor DVD/BD burn files).
Drive E contains all captured files (transferred from tape).
Drives F and P are scratch drives where all the preview files are stored, both audio and video.
Presently, scratch drives F and P are full, project drive D is nearly full, and I am finished editing the projects which occupy these drives. Drive E, however, still has plenty of unused space.
What I want to do now is to archive the finished projects, along with associated preview files, source clips, and burn files on the E drive, which has plenty of free space remaining. Then I want to delete the project and associated assets from Drive D and erase both scratch drives F & P so that I can reuse those drives for new work.
To do that I have tried using the Project Manager to “collect files and copy to new location” to collect and copy each project to its own folder on the E drive.
The problem is that, having done that, and removed the preview files and project files from their original locations, when attempting to open the now relocated projects from their new locations, the relocated projects continue to look for the associated preview files in the old location (drive F or P), even though all the files associated with each relocated project now reside on the same drive in the same folder. It appears that the Project Manager does not associate the preview files and source clips that it relocates with the project files that it relocates.
Can someone explain this and how best to accomplish my goal of relocating and archiving finished projects along with their associated previews and source materials so that the originals can safely be deleted?
    Thanks.

Is there a workaround so that the scratch disc settings can be attached to each project so they don’t need to be reset each time one reopens a project?
Yes.  Upgrade to CS5.5.  (This feature first showed up in CS4.)
What I want to do now is to archive the finished projects
You can safely delete everything on the F and P drives.  Previews can simply be rebuilt.  No need to waste space trying to save them.
Save the project files on the D drive.  Delete the media on E (you can always recapture if you need to rebuild).
Do not use the Project Manager.  Premiere Pro is an NLE.  Use it for it's intended purpose.  Use a real file manager (Windows Explorer on the PC, Finder on the Mac) to execute file operations.

  • Can I combine codec m2v1 with apple ProRes 422 (HQ) in same FCP X project?

Can I combine codec m2v1 with apple ProRes 422 (HQ) in same FCP X project?
Everything else is same.  29.97, fps, 1920 x1080, Linear PCM, 48kHz, mono, .mov
If not, could I add the logo animation after outputting to compressor using QuickTime 7?
I'm re-wrapping footage from Canon XF100, which is why m2v1.  I like working this way to preserve original footage.
I just had my logo animated and designer matched everything except the m2v1.  Providing ProRes 422 (HQ)
Thank you for your thoughts.  I'd like to avoid changing my camera footage to Apple ProRes 422 (HQ).

    Hi Mary,
    I'm new to FCPX too!
When creating a new project, if you click on Use Custom Settingsand then ckick on the Custom checkbox in Video Properties, you can specifyexactly what you want!
If you need to change it after the project was craeted, I found that you can click and highlight on the project in the Project Library window, then go over to the "info" button . The Properties window will expand from the right side (above the "info" button . With Properties selected it will show you the present settings, if you need to change those settings, click on the icon of the WRENCH on the bottom of that dialog box (Properties). You can then change your settings.
    Good luck, and happy cutting!

  • Is there metadata of any kind on an export file that shows me the project file from where it was created?

Is there any way in looking at the meta data of a .MOV exported from Final Cut 7 that allows me to see what the project file was? I have this exported file, but I can't locate the original project file from where it was from. Was hoping there would be some sort of data that exists that shows me the directory. I've searched by filename and date created all over my drives but no luck.

Well, FCP comes from an age where it was assumed the editor had his $#%^ together.
EDIT: One of my mentors had the conviction that every day when you left the cutting room, you should leave it in such a way that a perfect stranger could walk in in the morning and pick up right where you left off. I really strive to live up to that ideal. I know we all get crazy busy and don't always properly archive our stuff, but it DOES save a lot of headaches down the road.

  • FCE finished project on iDVD photo & video quality now poor

Using FCE 2.0.3 iDVD 5.0.1 have done many movies/slide shows with great results. Newest movie, noticeably reduced quality of finished project, pixelated appearance, although I am using same cameras on the same settings! Recently clean install to v 10.0.8
Used mcjanitor, disk utility regularly and have no performance issues currently. Am puzzled why the quality issues?
well over half hard drive available. 812 mb ram inactive.
PowerMac g5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)   1.5 gb ram 160 GB hard drive

The only thing absolutely different is that I've done a clean install of Tiger after experiencing a Tiger/Quicktime clash. Reinstalled FCE, Photoshop 2.0, iDVD and Comic Life. Those are basically the only programs I run on this machine.
I haven't changed the photo process, they are high quality jpeg edited in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 then imported to FCE, as I've done before. Photo is 2.0 mb 1704 X 2272 shot on 4mp canon digital camera
iDVD setting best quality. But I've made a disc with both settings.
Tried 2 different types of discs Memorex and Verbatim which my other--good quality videos have been made from the same stack of discs.
Quick time version 7.1.3. I didn't know you need to set the preferences in there for a movie exported from FCE and burned to iDVD. I'll try that and burn another one.

  • Old DV .avi projects exported from Premiere 6.5, hang in CS4.

    Hi
Im new to CS3. I finished some Mini-DV PAL 4:3 projects ages ago using Premiere 6.5, exporting the finished timeline directly from 6.5 as .avi files. I would have used whatever the default export CODEC in 6.5 was.
My Premiere 6.5, the machine used, and the project files have long gone.
When I play these .avis in Window media player, Nero, Media centre, etc they are fine.
But when imported into a CS4 project they behave strangely. The timeline progresses normally, the timecod advances, the audio plays, but the video hangs and stutters, sometimes as a frame hold, sometimes skipping, sometimes producing green video noise. This appears to occur mainly where there are titles and opacity changes.
All I want to do is add a few beginning and end transitions and some chapter points, send to Encore, then burn to DVD.
Im sure I have set the correct project parameters: DV PAL, SD, 720x576i.
Raw capture files of the same vintage play fine.
My machine is fast enough: 2.4GHz Quad core, Win XP SP3, 3.25GB RAM (out of 4GB). It runs AVCHD from my current camera faultlessly.
If anyone knows what is going on here it would be greatly appreciated!!
Below are the properties of one of the files, directly from CS4:
    File Path: G:\Video\Sweden.avi
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 3.7 GB
    Image Size: 720 x 576
    Pixel Depth: 32
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 48000 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
    Total Duration: 00:17:37:08
Average Data Rate: 3.6 MB / second
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.094
    AVI File details:
    Contains 1 video track(s) and 1 audio track(s).
    Interleave: 1 : 12.00
    Video track 1:
Size is 3.54G bytes (average frame = 148.12K bytes)
    There are 26433 keyframes.
    Frame rate is 25.00 fps
    Frame size is 720 x 576
    Depth is 24 bits.
    Audio track 1:
    Size is 193.60M bytes
    Rate is 48000 samples/sec
    Sample size is 16 bits

It is quite common to find that Windows CODECs used by the clip window will play OK, but then the same clip will not play off the timeline. This is because on the timeline the output goes through Premiere's rendering engine rather than Windows and this is less forgiving due to editing requirements.
I am able to import old DV500 output files into PPro CS4 without any problems.
I would still suspect something to do with installed CODECs versus your 32-bit DV file. DV is normally 24-bit and doesn't include an alpha channel (the final 8 bits of 32).
You might be able to eliminate the extra 8 bits using AVIsynth (free download) if you can't fix it another way.

  • Cannot open Project files from previous FCPX versions

    Hello,
I'm currently on 10.0.8, and have not upgraded to 10.1.1.  Here is my issue:
A documentary project I've been working on since 10.0.1 is not showing up in 10.0.8, and I'm wondering how to "manually" update the Project.  I upgraded FCPX versions a few times while working on this Project (I think all the way up to 10.0.4), but then I stopped as I noticed it was negatively affecting parts of my project and making the application run slow (and Apple recommends you don't update versions while in the middle of a project).  I finished that project, but now fast forward and I'm in 10.0.8 and I need to revisit that Project to make a few changes, but FCPX won't even recognize it.  It successfully updated and recognizes the Events I used for this particular Project, but not the Project itself.
    Any help/suggestions would be great.
    Thank you!

Thanks Russ.  After all this time, I actually solved the problem myself.  I forgot that back 6 months ago, I renamed my Project file, from the default "CurrentVersion".  I just came across another post that said you're not supposed to do that, so I changed my Project file back to "CurrentVersion" and now FCPX recognizes it.  After all that toil, the answer was just too simple!!
    Thanks.

  • Can't get rid of horizontal blurry lines in my FCP X project when exporting

    Hi there,
I am having troubles exporting my FCP X project without getting those blurry horizontal lines while watching it on a tv screen, on my macbook they are not that visible. I've tried using several field dominance options and using deinterlacing. I work from a macbook retina 13 inch and have my projects on an external HD. I have shot my footage with a Panasonic HC-V100 full HD 1920X1080 and my tv is a sony bravia. Any ideas?
    Thanks

No, I'm just plugging a HDMI cable into my macbook to see how it looks on a tv screen. I want to put it on youtube and show it at some places later on, if the lines dissappear.
Here are 2 screenshots, where the first one is without 'show both fields' and the second one with 'show both fields'.
You see the blurriness especially on the persons on the right.

  • Can't open FCP 7 project in FCP 6

    Hi all,
I am running FCP 6.0.6 and I just got a project file that I need to open but it's a FCP 7 project file (and won't open on my system). I am trying to get them to export me an XML but that might not be possible. Would anyone be able to help me out and take my FCP project and export a XML that I can read on my system (or have any tricks that I can use to get it to open)? Unfortunately upgrading to FCP 7 isn't an option for us at the moment.
    Thanks so much!
    -Peter

#45 - Opening projects with older versions of FCP
Shane's Stock Answer #45 - How to export your project to work with earlier versions of Final Cut Pro.
Versions of Final Cut Pro aren't backwards compatible. So a project created with FCP 6 cannot be opened with FCP 5...and this even goes into the dot-updates as well. A project created with FCP 5.1.4 cannot be opened by FCP 5.1.1.
Nope, for this you need to use XML. Export your sequence as an XML sequence and import that in the other version of FCP. XML v3 if for FCP 5.1 4 and FCP 6. XML v2 is for FCP 5.0, and XML v1 is for FCP 4.5. So if you need to go from FCP 6 to FCP 5.0.4, you'd use XML v2. For FCP 7 projects that you want to open in FCP 6, XML v4.
To export an entire project, select ALL the bins in the Browser and then choose FILE>EXPORT>XML.

  • Just installed FCP 6 and now can't open FCP 5 projects!  HELP

Yesterday I was trying to get some help with an FCP project that would no longer open. After a number of (very good) ideas from this and other forums did not help, I gave up and purchased the newest version of FCP Studio 2, figured I would soon anyway.
Well, now I'm really in trouble. FCP 6 will not open my FCP 5 project. It says it will, but it just runs the striped line forever and the FCP says it is 'not responding'. I've seen this problem unresolved here on this forum from last July and I'm very very concerned and actually starting to panic. There must be a way to open my projects? If not, I'm so scr*d. Excuse my French.
Has anyone found a fix? I've deleted all of the renders from the project. Running on Leopard with plenty of space on drives.

I have 15 gigs space available on the hard drive. I'm afraid I'm not sure which ram you are referring to, but its an older G5 that is fully rammed out and the project I'm trying to open is 82 mb. The applestore person I spoke to assured me that my computer had what was necessary to run FCP 6, but my projects are going to get huge. There's no avoiding that, I'm afraid. They are CG and graphics and effects heavy. So I really do need to know how to cope with technical problems while working in large projects.
I deleted the older FCP and Soundtrack software before installation, but I don't think that's a 'clean install' as I'm sure there are remnant folders lying all over the place. If there is a 'clean install' button on the installation disc I received, I somehow overlooked it. I'd be happy for any instruction on this.
I would love to send the project to you, if you are willing to give it a go! How nice of you to offer! How would I do that?

    Hello there, averypamby.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great information in regards to sharing/exporting your video in Motion:
Motion 5: Export a QuickTime movie
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH16623
Export your project as a movie file
Choose Share > Export Movie (or press Command-E).
Choose an export format from the Export pop-up menu.
This menu provides a list of codecs.
Choose an option from the “Open with” pop-up menu:
Do Nothing: The movie is not opened after the export is completed.
Open with QuickTime Player: The movie is opened in QuickTime Player.
Open with Compressor: The movie is opened in Compressor (if installed on your system).
Choose an option from the Include pop-up menu: Video and Audio, or Video Only.
If you’ve set In and Out points in the Timeline, use the Duration pop-up menu to choose whether to export the sequence or the portion between the In and Out points.
To specify additional Motion-specific options, click Render.
For more information about options available in the Render pane, see Render settings.
To see details about the file to be output, click Summary.
    Click Next.
Enter a name and choose a location for the exported file, then click Save.
Motion renders and saves your movie.
Important:    The Export Movie command does not use background rendering, so you must wait until rendering is finished before you can continue to work in Motion.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.
