FCP DV Output to External Monitor Quality Problem

Hi there, I'm using Final Cut Pro HD from Final Cut Studio 2, and I'm having a problem with the quality of the image on my external monitor. I have checked all the settings etc... for external video and they all seem right, but when I play the video in my canvas the signal into my camera lcd and onto my ntsc monitor is not correct. It plays the video; however, it also has a constant stream of large grey squares flashing across the TV. I would say 50% of the output signal is my video, and then 50% of the screen is taken up by these large moving grey squares.
I have all my windows fit to screen, I've choosen the Apple FireWire NTSC option in the A/V settings, and I have the all frames checked in the View tab.
It seems like only half of the signal is making it's way from FCP to my camcorder. At first I thought it was my NTSC monitor, but when I saw that the grey squares are also showing up in my camcorder's lcd screen I figured that it must be a problem coming from FCP.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much!

You'd think so, but I'd try another anyway...
Another thing that might be amiss is the power management on your Mac. There is a PMU button on the motherboard of your machine you can reset. You need to unplug it from power first however. It's under the fan you can remove to add RAM...

  • Satellite Pro U300: DVD issue - error: cannot output to external monitor

    Hi,
I was having problems playing a dvd on my U300.
Basically the software would load but when I tried to play the dvd it said "cannot output to external monitor".
Having gone through all options I could not find anything to stop this happening. I then downloaded the latest software from the toshiba site.
    dvdpl-20070807102909.zip
I resintalled this but got the same error message.
I then uninstalled the software and tried to reinstall but now it just produces an error mesaage saying it cannot intsall the software on this computer.
    How can I reinstall this?
    Regards,
    Mark

I presume you have received the Toshiba Recovery CD. Am I right?
On this CD you can find the Toshiba image file. This image contains the Vista OS, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.
But note; you cannot install only a single program. To reinstall a application from the Recovery CD you have to format the HDD and have to reinstall the whole OS using the Recovery CD.
As Gipsyman said, the Toshiba driver page contains update and the original preinstalled software is needed.

  • FCP Problem with Firewire output to external monitor and speaker ???Help

i have a g5 powermac. the problem is when using Final cut pro 4hd. when i output my work through firewire to my external monitor and speaker i have a problem with the audio signal. Theres feedback/noise/hiss from the speakers. The firewire connects to DSR-11 vtr deck which feeds my monitor and speakers. it only happens when in FCP is set to A/V firewire output. does not happen if Video output is not set to firewire.
I Diagnosis is that it is not my dsr-11 deck or firewire i've ruled those out. The problem is either FCP software or Hardware problem with my G5
Does anyone have a similar problem. please respone, i will try to answer any respones,
    Thanks
    powermac g5     powermac

    CaptM
From the firewire that feeds the dsr-11. on the output, i use s-video cable to my monitor (sony pvm-14l) and High Quality rca cables thet feed the audio to the Roland Speakers.
I've changed all wires and still have audio problem. I,ve changed my Dsr-11 deck to my camcorder and still have the problem.
If any of u guys use FCP The problem happens When I select view> external Monitor > and select firewire for Audio/ and video. I have never changed my editing habits, something just went wrong with the signal, I think its a Hardware problem with the firewire connection. I'm Going to have to bring this to a Apple Service Center In my local area one day.

    Hello,
I am trying to get the VGA output to an external monitor to work.
I am connected to my monitor directly using a standard VGA cable.

I have tried the latest "generic" Intel driver after completely uninstalling the device driver from device manager: without success.
I have tried another monitor from a different manufacturer: no luck.
To eliminate the device driver as a possible cause, I tried booting from an Unbuntu boot CD: no luck.
I have enabled boot display on the VGA port in the BIOS: screen remains black.
I am suspecting that the VGA port on my brand new Lenovo Thinkpad T420 is simply not working at all.
I have opened a call with my hardware support.

  • What do you need to get video output to external monitor

    Hello,
I'm fairly new to Color and have read a few posts that color can't be viewed by firewire to an external monitor. Basically what I have right now for external viewing in FCP is a JVC SR-VS30 Mini DV NTSC deck with firewire connected to my computer. From the deck it goes to a small TV set and a Sony Trinitron PVM color video monitor. What do I need extra to be able to see my color correction in Color on an external monitor. BTW in Color currently the Video Output tab in Setup>User Prefs is grayed out showing Disabled. I suppose that when I get whatever I need to see Color on an external monitor that this tab would NOT be grayed out or would I have to set some other settings.
    Thanks.

Well, you can waste a lot of time and money trying to get your old iron up to speed but the sad fact is, even though it may work with Color, it will most likely end in a less than satisfactory experience all around. You need to determine if your G5 has PCI, PCI-x or PCIe slots and then purchase the appropriate cards.
However, Final Cut Studio 2 is optimized for the Intel processors. You will see users here and there using the newest models G5 with great success but quite honestly, you need a Mac Pro.
Or just purchase the Aja IO/HD which is a firewire 800 interface and the only firewire device that will preview externally Color.

  • Lenovo Helix - Issue outputting to external monitor

I received my Lenovo Helix today and am having issues outputting to an external monitor. During initial setup output was working but with the occasional flicker, so I performed all Windows Updates and Lenovo updates, however now it will not output to external at all. Monitor is a Dell 2740L 1080p monitor using a Kanex MDPHD10ft mini displayport to HDMI cable. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Lenovo Helix i7 256gb... wish I bought a Surface Pro for better support...

Has anyone found a solution for this issue yet? I was unable to get the Intel HD Graphics driver 9.17.10.2932 or 9.17.10.3071 to work. Sent the computer in to Lenovo; they have replaced the motherboard three times. I'm surprised that each time they sent the computer back, they didn't check to see if they had actually fixed the output problem.
It appears that the problem lies in the Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver (see: http://www.eightforums.com/graphic-cards/7743-those-troubled-hdmi-sync-issues-intel-hd-3000-4000-etc... ).
For a company with a long legacy of sucess, Lenovo has sure disappointed this time. It's going to be hard to recommend their computers to anyone if they can't even acknowledge that they put a nonfunctioning port on their laptops.

  • Mini DVI to external monitor (VGA) problem/firmware update does nothing

    Hi,
Four months ago I bought a new white 13-inch Macbook (2006 model I believe) along with a handy mini-DVI - VGA adapter. I used a Hanns-G HU196D external monitor which worked fine for a couple of months but then stopped, and had the same problem with a (much cheaper) 'LiteView' monitor. I find it bizarre how they work absolutely fine and then stop, with no damage to the adapter, cable or ports. I've since bought a new adapter and cables + trying out a different monitor and still the same problem...
I've installed a firmware update that describes the exact symptoms, but it's done nothing. Can anyone help me resolve my issue?? It's still under warranty so is it an unusual problem that'll need to be fixed by Apple?
    Thanks

Are you using the mini DVI to DVI followed by a DVI to VGA adapter? That may not work if the mini DVI to DVI adapter does not pass analog video. If that is the case, you need the mini DVI to VGA adapter:

  • External monitor resolution problem

    Hi,
My external monitor's resolution is 1920 x 1080 but the highest I see in resolutions' list is 1600 X 900 or 1344 x 1008.  I am connecting my MacBook snow leopard to Asus ML249H with HDMI cable.  I've tried some suggestions that were posted for Mac Pro but nothing worked.  Can anyone help?  Thanks!

  • External monitor resultion problem: black borders

I use a Hanns-G HW191D 19" external flatscreen with my Macbook. It is a wide screen with 1440x900. The problem is that I cannot use all of that space when I'm in the Mac OS. I can use it (to the edges of the screen) when I use Boot Camp in Windows XP with the same Macbook.
When I'm in the Mac OS (which is about 99.9999% of the time of course), I have about about an inch of black border all the way around my desktop -- as if it cannot scale up to the full size of the screen.
In my system prefs, I have my Displays set to:
    1440 x 900
    Millions of colors
    60 Hertz
I'm connecting via the VGA connector (since that's all I have to work with).
The monitor itself has some onscreen controls, but nothing that can make the image bigger.
Okay one other thing, I got this Macbook a long time ago -- almost two years. I got the external monitor for it about a year and a half ago. This problem existed from the first time I connected the monitor -- I tried to figure it out but couldn't and didn't think to try this forum. So I've been living with it since then (ug).
    Macizoids! Help!

Did it develop around the same time, after you downloaded the security update?

  • Force OS X to send output on external monitor

    Hi.
I just got a new Macbook Pro and wanted to use it with my Apple Cinema HD 23"-display, but I got
some problem. For a couple of months ago the cable to my Apple Cinema was damaged and I had
to solder it togheter. It worked perfectly with my PC but when I now try to connect it to my macbook
it isn't recognized by OS X.
My question is now if it is possible to force os x to recognize this external monitor? I use a minidisplay->DVI-adapter.
Edit: If someone have the correct pinouts for the Apple Cinema 23" it would have been great, since I suppose there is some problem with my soldering.

Okay. The sad part is that the monitor works with my PC (Which do not need to identify it before use)...
It's just the cable which is damaged, not the display itself. A pinout of the cable would be great, or a url where to buy a new one .

  • Timeline output to external monitor

Hi - I'd like to see the timeline output on an external monitor (TV set with composite in) while editing. I'm told the only way to do this is to purchase an input-output card and one of the most reasonably priced ones seems to be the Pinnacle Movie Box. Does anyone know if this compatible with Premiere Pro CS3? Will it do what I want it to? If not, what is the best solution?
    Thanks in advance...

For the moment, neither SD nor HD, but just simple DV :) But I'd like to buy something that can handle HDV, as I'll be editing a project soon. The output need not be great - after all, it's going to an ordinary TV set, not a precision reference monitor. The purpose of this additional monitor is to screen unfinished portions of the film to other people. I might have people come in to give their comments during the editing, so it's useful to be able to output the timeline.
Pinnacle lists four products on their site: Studio MovieBox Plus, Studio MovieBox Ultimate, Studio MovieBoard and Studio MovieBoard Ultimate. Do they all work? Which of them would you recommend? Or would you suggest someting else altogether?
    Thanks very much.

  • Output to external monitor fail after few seconds

    hi
i upgraded my x61+X6 utlrabse docking st. to X200 with X200 ultrabase docking station.
i have a DELL  20 inch LCD as my external mointor.
the docking statition is connected using a USB-KVM to the external monitor.
with the X61 i manage to see the external monitor
with the X200 i see the external monitor  and after10 sec it goes down.
    few more related facts:
1)i can see in the Windows Vista HW and Driver setting that the DELL SP2008 screen is  registeredbut than after10 sec it disaapear and screen goes off.
    2) when i goes to Intel Graphics Media Accelerator the only option is the choose only laptop display and no external one is shown.when i swith with the kvm to another computer (actually disconnecting the external monitor) and goes back to X200 i can see for 10 sec the external monitor.
any idea what is the problem ?
    Thanks

I am seeing the same behavior with a T420s and a Trendnet TK-409 KVM. The KVM works with all other laptops and desktops I have connected to it so this is surprising. Any help or suggestions would be highly appreciated. Thank you.

  • VGA output to External Monitor or Projector

One of the main reasons I bought the iPad is to start using it as my travel devise instead of the bulky MacBook. I make a lot of sales presentations using Keynote but I also have to demonstrate Web application using browsers such as Safari. I was totally crushed to discover that the VGA output only works with certain applications and DOES NOT WORK with Safari. So much for using the iPad as a travel device! You would think given that using a browser is at least 50% of what most people do on these devices, Apple would have found a way to provide VGA output for Safari! They certainly missed the boat on this one big time.
Does anyone know of an App that would allow you to run the browser through a "Video" wrapper so it can be seen on an external monitor or projector? Here is an idea for a creative developer to make a ton of money! It will make my iDud (did I say that?) be worth taking along on a trip. If i am staying home I can watch movies on my desktop, I don't need the VGA for watching movies!

First and foremost, I love my iPad, using it for the many things it does as my personal tablet is great!
While experimenting with it for a mobile work device, or a lightweight travel device, I've had mixed results.
I understood when buying the iPad that it was not a Mac or PC replacement, I'm just surprised at the limitations.
On the VGA out cable, I gotta say I tried to do the same level of research, but unfortunately being a relative newby to the Apple experience, I fell for the Apple makes it quicker simpler easier, they think of everything hype. I too thought that a VGA out cable would do exactly that and did not see anything that described the limitations.
I also think Apple missed the boat here, they could have made this the perfect lightweight travel/mobile companion device to whatever Mac/PC is sitting back at the office. I understand they are trying to protect their Mac business, but this could have been a perfect Trojan horse for them. By getting PC users hooked on Keynote/Pages/Numbers on an iPad, they would have been more inclined to purchase a Mac to replace whatever they currently have.
    I know I would have.
I'm using this in business today, I'm accessing all of our web enabled back office tools without issues and using webmail to access outlook, basically 75% of my daily work can be accomplished on my iPad.
The webex app works great, but doesn't support the VGA out (nor did it say anywhere that it would or wouldn't).
The remaining 25% of my works needs fall to these apps:
I want to use Numbers, but can't, since it won't export in .xls format, which is what the rest of my company, is standardized on.
I will be able to use Keynote in a Kiosk mode at tradeshows or in meetings to project via the VGA connector, but won't be able to use it for any serious work since I can't export in .PPT format.
I won't be purchasing Pages, while it does save in a .DOC format, I'm now leery of what it won't do, and without the ability to use Numbers and the limited use of Keynote, this keeps me from using this more in the business world.
While it may sound like I’m whining, I’m not, I’m trying to express a few of the short comings, that could have made a similar impact to my business life as it has within my personal life.
In addition, for folks doing research, I hope this helps clarify some of the items that appear to be more difficult to find.

  • T400- make the external monitor primary problem.

    I use T400 and Acer p223w monitor.
From some reason I cannot make the external monitor to be the primary monitor.
Using the Presentation Doctor I have the option to define the external monitor as the primary but when I test it, it says that I have illegal parameters of color depth and resolution.
The problem is that the parameters I use are the parameters currently defined on the two monitors (which mean the monitors have no problem working that way).
Any other color depth resolution combination won’t solve the problem.
On the other hand using the same parameters if I configure the laptop monitor to be the primary everything works just fine.
Any idea what causing it and how to solve it will be highly appreciated.

Since I have a German Windows client I can only guess the wording on the english client, but try the following, which worked on my T500:
Bring up the mobility center by pressing Win+X
Click the button to connect an external monitor
Choose to use the external monitor as the only display
Now that the external monitor is the only display, it is also primary of course. Now you can use the normal windows display dialog (Right-Click on desktop -> Configure -> Display) to extend the desktop to the internal display which will be secondary then
    done
In my case windows remembers this configuration and you do not have to do these steps again after reboot or when you reconnect the external monitor.
Hope this helps for the T400, too.
