FCP not exporting or sharing

My son upgrade our mac 10.1.1 9 Mavericks a month ago and upgraded FCP X....and now I can't burn DVDs, export or share.  The only thing i can do is export a file as a 'fcpxml' which won't open with anything but FCP X. Can someone please help me? Thanks!

So your copy of FCPX is version10.1?
Are the Share options unavailable or does it hang or crash when you export?

    Hi Videoframe
This was emailed to Apple Support on 23 DEc 2012 at 09:50 Eastern Australia time.
"I continued to talk to other Apple Mac users on iMovie….Interesting to have found out that their movies were made using iDVD without any known issues as yet…Looking at the results from Apple Support Forum and Youtube, problems appears to be when NOT using iDVD. I and many others can't understand how these many technical problems were overlooked by the programmers of iMovie. One would have thought iMovie problems have been iron out prior to getting rid of iDVD. By the way when I first contacted Apple Support back on 16th Nov, I was told I need to RE-INSTALL my computer…..that I did and in the process my iDVD was removed and never was re-installed.
May I suggest you delegate a junior person or someone string together a project consisting over near 1700 images, approx. 25mins of video footage, titles and including with and without transitions then export the project.
I am still in the dark as to what is being done about this extended non result. I am not sure if is known by the people who is in charge of this iMovie programme. it would be nice to get some sort of feedback. Not sure if I should refer this to a third party to do the testing?? I am sure Apple's competitors would love to make a mockery of this.
There has to be a time frame for this to end, as I and many others can't simply sit here in the dark and wait for someone to come back for a solution, this could be months or years who knows.  As you can appreciate I am not the only user anxiously waiting for a solution.
I guess I am in a way representing other worldwide users in pursuing a solution on this matter ASAP. I therefore ask you to please make this a priority if this is at all possible.
    Many thanks."
I've been corresponding to them since Fri 16th Nov on and off without a solution.

  • FCP not exporting full Quicktime

    Hi,
I am trying to export a quicktime and for some reason FCP will not export the full version, it claims to be done, but only exports 6 out of the 7 minutes. My markers are set appropriately. I've never seen this before, any suggestions?

What codec are you using for your export? What are your sequence settings? Try setting an in and an out for the last minute of your sequence and see if it will export. You might try copying the contents of your sequence to a new sequence to see if that makes a difference.

  • Why will playback in FCP not look like shared file to Apple TV?

I was putting some text ove my video in FCPX.  I had it the way I wanted and it played back in FCP as intended.  The project was rendered and I shared it to my Apple TV (newest generation).  When it played back the text was not nearly in the same position as it looked when playing in FCPX.  It was not a little off, it was alot off.  Since I have to admit, FCPX is pretty awesome after all the updates so I know it has to be something I am doing or not doing but for the life of me I cannot figure it out.

  • Why is burst not exporting or sharing

I have a couple of Bursts in an album.  After choosing the single or two shots I want to keep, I first tried to export, but that was grayed out.  I then attempted share on iCloud, but no shared group was shown to choose.  If, however, I want to share or export the whole burst group, I am successful.  Why even keep the burst album if everything or the first shot is all I can export or share?

    Winston,
A follow-up.  The first group of bursts were taken by a 5s (owned by wife) and the recent burst was taken by my 5c.  I just took another test burst on the 5s.  As you know, the bursts show as a separate folder on the 5s but not on the 5c.  When I attached the 5s to my iMac, it does show pictures being abled to be imported to photos, which I did.  When I choose one of the new bursts and choose to make a selection, i do not see the circle in lower right corner nor the graying of the selection.  The first time I tried to select, I picked one of the center pics in the burst and saw a gray dot appear below it.  There is a gray arrow at the top of each pic and that moves to the shot I am viewing, but the original gray dot does not move.  Using this test burst, I can export the whole burst or only the first image of the burst, regardless of which one I had selected.  I am only seeing the first image of the burst when I view Photos.  It seems I am unable to access anything other than the first of the burst.  Must I export the whole burst and then reimport them as separate photos?

  • I can not export my Final Cut Pro X Project

    Hi everyone
I am seeking help big time!
I have completed my FCP project on FCPX, but I can not export.
When I click on "export project" it does nothing and when I send to compressor or trying to export by using compressor settings or trying to export to media browsers ot apple devices, it says " failed" even before starting to export
All my files at my project are rendered alredy.
    I have re-installed FCPX
I have purchased latest version of compressor (4.1)
BTW I am on Mavericxs 10.9.1
    What might be the problem?
    Any help is much appreciated
Thank you in advance for the help
    Regards
    Yusuf

I have this same issue also, on my MacBook Pro. When I click 'export project' nothing comes up at all.
It's very frustrating and I have tried everything also:
    All files rendered
    Re-installed FCPX
The only change i've made since it has started happening was upgrading to Mavericks OS X 10.9.1. So it has to be something to do with that.
I was wondering and hoping if you have since solved the problem, and can help me with a solution to amend it.
If anyone else can help it will be much appreciated, and most thankful.

  • FCP 5 export to .AVI for Windows client? Advice needed!

I have a Windows platform client that wants my Exported FCP 5 Sequence in .AVI format.
Obviously, I normally always use Export to Quicktime Movie in FCP, and I do know that their is not a direct choice in FCP to export/convert as an .AVI file. (I usually hand off the FCP file to another facility that does DVD Studio Pro authoring work, and haven't had a need to make different file formats).
This has made me to ponder of few bits of info, that I'm sure I could get great ansers to, here.
My normal "workaround" for making an .AVI for a Windows user is to Export as Quicktime Movie in FCP, like normal, and then open that exported file in Quicktime Pro, and use Export Movie to AVI in Quicktime Pro. Is this the best method? Secondly, I am a little unsure as to the best settings I should use in QT Pro to achieve this. For example:
I just did a routine NTSC 48k,16 bit stereo, 30 second ad in FCP, and my normal, Export to Quicktime Movie was about 260 meg in size for the finished, self-contained movie file.
I opened this in QT-Pro and ran Export to AVI. In the settings dialog, I chose "uncompressed" for video and 48k-16 bit stereo for audio. The resulting export was about 680 meg in size! Because of file size restrictions for the clients product, what settings change or choice should I be making in QT-Pro to get an "equivalent" of the 260 meg file the FCP is exporting? Should I not get an equal file size of the QT-Pro AVI versus the FCP export (both 260 meg?).
If the answer is compression, what is the best settings in QT-Pro? Cinepak? Intel Indeo?
Perhaps, I have always misunderstood what FCP Export to Movie is giving me, but I thought that was uncompressed video? If so, why do I get the 260 meg out of FCP, and then 680 meg from QT-Pro Export to AVI (uncompressed) for the same 30 second clip? Is it simply a data rate difference?
Lastly, I have actually had a Windows user take a FCP Export to Movie file, straight from me, and they say it opened fine in Windows Media Player as is for viewing. However, there is no (dot) file extension name on the end of the filename. They can simply click File/Open in Windows Media Player and choose the "unrecognized" file because of no extension, and play it just fine to at least view the clip.
So what exactly is the file type that FCP is creating? It's not a .MOV and not an AVI file. What would be the equivalent file type association (just for my curiosity).
Thanks for any help to the above as I value the more-experienced users here.
    Wade

    Hi Wade,
Sorry for letting your post unanswered for two days, we were all busy (I know, it is not an excuse).
Seriously, I think the reason you are not getting answers is you have asked too many questions in one post. Don't know about others, but I get slightly confused.
Let me tell you what I do with FCP material when I send it to our sound department where they work with Nuendo on PCs. I export sequence using QT Conversion. My settings are: Format - AVI, Compression type - DV-PAL, Compressor quality - Best. I do not bother much about the sound. I sent the resulting file over network to a Maxtor FireWire external drive connected to a colleague's PC and then take the drive down to the sound guys. If the AVI file is smaller than 2 GB I can burn it to a DVD and a PC can open it, if it is larger, PCs cannot open. Also, the sound guys ask me not to use Cinepac, they do not like it. Therefore, I use DV-PAL; I guess you may safely use DV-NTSC but it depends on who will open the AVI file. Ask your client what it wants.
I think my routine is a bit more streamlined than yours - I export straight from FCP and do not bother with QT. You are wrong in saying that there is no direct way in FCP to export AVI.
Hope this is a starter for more answers. Also, have you tried searching the forum? I am sure all the answers are already there.

  • Chose 'Export to Shared Services' on a calc script....where did it go?

I accidentally right-click and choose 'Export to Shared Services' on a Calc script in EAS.
the help file is not much...I am curious...where did this export to in Shared Services? What is the point of this feature?
    Thanks
    JTS

    Hi,
I think it was Hyperion's original idea to share objects between applications which were known as models, so you could export outlines and calc scripts to shared services and then shared them across applications or to synchronize different applications.
It is something that I have never seen really used and I am sure it was dropped after 9.2, though the option still existed to export in EAS but you couldn't manage models in 9.3
I think it has all be superseeded with concepts like EPMA and LCM.
    Cheers

  • Will FCP X export to Flash?

I've been an Adobe Premiere user all this time and am finally ready to throw in the towel and losing about 6 hrs worth of work due to a corruption with my project file.
With the new release of FCP X, I need to verify whether it (or Compressor) can export to flash video. I checked all of the specs but didn't see it listed. Can anyone verify this?
    Thanks!
    Brian

FCP X will not export as flv. But you can always export as h.264 wich has been part of Flash for a while now.

  • Can FCP X export .m4v directly?

Can FCP X export .m4v directly without usig Compressor?

    Looks like .m4v to me.
iPad is the same. Do not use the Mac & PC compatible option. That makes .mp4 for PC compatibility.

  • Can not export to a quicktime movie

So, I've spent the past two weeks putting this wedding video together on final cut express HD 3.5.1 and I'm all set to burn it to a DVD. I figured the easiest way to do this would be through iDVD. iDVD recommends that, while in FCE, I choose the "Export to quicktime movie" command to create a quicktime file that I can then drag and drop to iDVD. Sounds easy enough, but I simply can not export my project to QT in FCE. Every time I attempt to do so, one of two things happens: 1) after about a second of "writing audio and video" it quits w. the following error message: "file error: unknown file" or 2) the entire project is "written," but the created QT file will not open up and does not give a helpful explanation as to why.
By no means am I married to iDVD or QT if anybody has any other suggestions as to how I can feasibly get my FCE project somehow burned onto a DVD. But if anybody has any suggestions w/ or w/o exporting to QT, please please please help me as soon as you can. This is my sister's wedding video and she and her husband will be moving to colorado next week! I really need to get this to her before then.
My scratch disk is an external HD - USB-HDD (FAT32) Processor: 2 GHz Intel Core Duo, Memory: 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

I have to plead ignorance regarding the firewire "drive" that you're referring to. My USB-HD is connected with a firewire cable. I'm not familiar with the distinction between this type of connection and a "firewire drive."
You might be interested to know I was able to successfully export a ten-minute DVD clip (with multiple tracks and rendered video) excerpted from my final cut project and subsequently burn it to a DVD. It didn't look like it had exported successfully, because it was still a .fcp file. I simply changed it to a .mov and changed the default opener from FCE to Quicktime and "voila" I had a quicktime movie. Too bad I can't get the same thing to work for the two-hour project.
Nonetheless, the fact that I was able to get the clip on a DVD gives me confidence that somehow, some way I can convert my whole project to a quicktime file. It's my hope that someone will read this forum and burst forth with a fresh, imaginative approach keeping in mind I'm not about to run out and spend two hundred bucks on a third hard drive I don't need.
Thanks for your suggestions. Please keep them coming if you have any other ideas.

There's no really good way for it anymore. Sharing via iCloud is likely the best possible option, but I haven't had an opportunity to try that out yet. I'll need to get my hands on a Windows PC to see how an updated Windows browser displays presentations.

  • OS X Yosemite + iPhoto - edits not exported

Despite trying numerous suggestions on forums to repair, rebuild or recreate databases and libraries with iPhoto, my iPhoto 9.6 together with OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 will not export or share edited versions of any images I have in iPhoto libraries or albums. The edited versions only appear in iPhoto. All exported/shared versions use the original image. This was not a problem I had when I was using OS X Mavericks. Advice on how to overcome this problem (assuming it's fixable at all) would be welcome.

    These things I've tried:
    1. Starting iPhoto holding down cmd and option keys, then selecting from the menu Repair permissions. Tried exporting existing edited photos.
    2. Starting iPhoto holding down cmd and option keys, then selecting from the menu Rebuild Thumbnails.Tried exporting existing edited photos.
    3. Starting iPhoto holding down cmd and option keys, then selecting from the menu Repair Database.Tried exporting existing edited photos.
    4. Starting iPhoto holding down cmd and option keys, then selecting from the menu Rebuild Database.Tried exporting existing edited photos.
    5. Starting iPhoto holding down option key, then from the dialog box, selecting Create New... to create a new library. Adding photo to the new library. Tried exporting the newly imported photo after editing.

  • FCP cant export any video

    Hi,
I have been dealing with editing a feature film for some months now. I've been able to easily export the sequence until now. I have tried a few things. I exported a self-contained quicktime movie, I used compressor in FCP to export it that way and none work. I even erased my hard drive, and installed all the software again. With no luck. I use to have an aja kona LSe card connected to an external monitor, but that stopped working about a week ago. When the problems started happening. I am trying to play with that and see if I can get it to work again, but no luck. When the project is open now FCP in general has become very slow. My settings now for FCP are the standard DV-NTSC anamorphic set-up. Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

You likely have some media that's corrupt and that is what is stopping the export. The LHe card is another thing altogether.... you might call AJA about that. Try moving your media to another folder on the same hard drive, then open the project and reconnect the media files a few at a time until you see a crash or warning, or something that lets you know that the media needs recapturing. If this fails to fix you up, I'd suggest a clean erase and install of OS X, then FCS on top of that on a fresh startup disk. If you've not done this in a while, it's likely time anyway to do it.
