FCP to Blu-Ray - must we spend $800 with Adobe?

As an Apple user for a few decades and a video pro, we have been with FCP from the start.
Now that we are transitioning into HD we find Apple leaving us in the lurch.
If we want to deliver Blu-ray to our customers, we must buy the Adobe Premiere Suite: http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/ in order to obtain Encore. It seems to be the only way to author professional Blu-ray DVDs with menu.
While a huge percentage of our customers are not Apple users, the Apple TV solution simply isn't viable.
I'd rather give my money to Apple than Adobe and have an FCP solution.
I really hope someone from Apple steps up to respond to this.

Menus are still Photoshop place holders.
Not quite true.
The menu background, as you say, can be any image, but the chapter thumbnails are created by Toast from your choice of any frame in the relevant video segments.

  • TS3495 My recent blu ray purchase did not come with a digital copy disc as others have in the past, and no place in the case for one to be either, just came with instructions, so now what?

My new blu ray disc did not come with a seperate digital download dis, now was there even a place for one inside the case, it came with instructions of how to install I tunes, then magically I would be prompted to enter the promo code and have it, no such luck, so now what?

Have you actually followed the instructions?
Did you enter the promo code?
If you did, were there any error messages?

  • Best way to copy FCP-created Blu-ray Disc?

Tried using FCP7 to burn another copy of a Blu-ray disc a week after I burned the first copy. But since I didn't want to wait 16 hours for FCP to encode the Blu-ray files again, I copied the files off the first Blu-ray Disc I'd burned onto my desktop. Then, I inserted a blank Blu-ray Disc into my external burner and copied the desktop files onto it.
The new disc burned with those files ... but when I play it back in my Blu-ray player, there's no audio. Any ideas??

Try making a disk image from your original disc, then burning from that.
    1. Insert your disc and launch Disk Utility.
    2. Select your optical drive in Disk Utility.
    3. Choose File > New > Disk Image from<disk name>.
    4. Choose DVD/CD Master, press OK, and wait.
    5. Select your new image on the left, then press Burn in the toolbar.
Not sure if this process has changed for Blu-ray but I suspect not. The disk format for DVD and Blu-ray is UDF (not FAT32 or HFS+ which you get from a standard Finder burn).

  • Looking for a fcp 7 blu ray workflow?

Has anyone found a workflow they are happy with creating HD blu ray discs out of fcp. I shoot with the sony PMW-350 and edit in fcp 7 and need the ability to distribute in HD. Have installed the pioneer BDR-205 blu ray burner internally. I don't need fancy playback menus. I'd be happy with a BD disc that my clients simply load and it begins to autoplay. Many of my projects are between 1 and 2 hours in length. Any help/advise would be greatly appreciated.

Toast 9 or 10 (with the Blu-ray plug-in) will give you basic Blu-ray onscreen menus and allow you to rename Blu-day discs. Looks a bit more professional than what you're getting at present?
Also, although you say you do not have an inkjet disc printer, basic (one-disc-at-a-time) printers cost no more than other inkjet printers, and will save you from screwing up a client's player with labels.
There are inkjet printable Blu-ray discs out there. Get a printer! IMHO!

  • TOSHIBA Blu-ray Disc Player not compatible with USB speakers

I have a P850, using Logitch Z305 USB speakers. The speakers work fine with all other multimedia software such as WMP, iTunes or MPC, but not with TOSHIBA Blu-ray Disc Player. The Toshiba program either won't work or will crash if the speakers are plugged in. Is anyone aware of a way to fix this?
    Thanks

This Logitech speakers are plug and play device that uses standard driver and are installed as any other plug and play device. I dont have it but I saw interesting movie on You Tube about it.
To be honest I dont understand why it cannot works with TOSHIBA Blu-ray Disc Player. I think you are the first one who has reported about this issue.
Problem is that Toshiba doesnt support third part software or hardware so it is not easy to find solution for this.
I really hope there are other users who have fixed it or can offer some useful tip for this pretty strange issue.

  • Blu-Ray video capture and burning with G4 Power Book ??

    Good afternoon.
Has anybody figured out this route with a G4?
If so, please explain in nauseating details! Hardware, software, etc.......
    Thanks for your time!

    Thanks for your reply.
It's also my understanding that OS X doesn't natively offer Blu-Ray support, and that an external Blu-Ray player/burner is required (see OWC) along with capture and burning software (Toast 10).
I'm wondering if anyone has tried and succeeded.

  • Which Blu Ray allows browse and search with net flix rahter then Queing up threw computer ?

Im reading here that there is a samsung model that will allow this but i cannot get the actual model # dose anyone know which model this is or any other player that will allow this feature. Thanks.

I don't personally exactly know about the samsung version, but if you have found that it does then ALL samsung models will do it as they all have the same internect content software (Their TVs too). Xbox 360 & PS3 do allow searching. Sony Blu-ray players, 2010 models at least, do not offer that, and I'm pretty sure that LG does not either. But like I said, I am unsure about Samsung.

  • Pioneer blu ray drive in mac and with bootcamp??

Hello everyone. I read a post on this forum about installing a blu ray drive in a mac and it working perfect. Now my question is, will it work if I have bootcamp and switch over to windows XP. Otherwords will the drive work on windows XP on the mac using bootcamp???? thanks

Windows doesn't recognize the spare SATA ports on the motherboard. So if that is what you were going to use, no.
There is an article up on http://www.xlr8yourmac.com about how to install a drive in the lower optical bay.

  • So what blu-ray drives will work nicely with the new FC?

So....well first...hi shane. ok, so.....is it as easy as plugging in a blu-ray drive to my macbook pro with leopard and the new final cut and burning hdv to a bluray disc right from the new compressor or is it not that easy?

    Hi
    i have an LG BE06LU11,
    http://www.lge.com/us/computer-products/optical-media/LG-external-dvd-burner-BE0 6LU11.jsp
And yes it's plug and play-I have found you need to make sure the burner is plugged in and turned on before you open any windows to create bluray content. and best to only put in burning media when FCS asks for it which is after it has done the encoding.

There is a DLNA media server called MediaLink that is designed for use with the Play Station 3.  It is not advertised as working with other DLNA clients but it usually will.  I use it to stream audio, video and pictures to a WDTV media player in my bedroom.  Works great, even supports iTunes playlists.  I believe it still has a free trial period so you can see if it works with your player.

  • Blue screen while printing to PDF with Adobe

    Hi,
I'm using Adobe Acrobat to produce PDF files. A few days ago, all of the sudden, each time I try to create a PDF with the virtual printer, I get a "Blue Screen Of Death" reporting some problem on the win32k.sys file.
I'm using Windows Vista Professional 32 bits and Adobe Acrobat 9.
    Best regards.

Which version of AA9. There have been 7 updates or so. You might try a repair and then do any uninstalled updates (in order, they are not cummulative). The repair may resolve the issue or you may have run into some other bug that the updates might fix.

  • Why must I use Safari with Adobe Reader X?

I operate a Mac (OS X 10.6.8) and I prefer Firefox over Safari. For years I have used Adobe Reader 9 with Firefox (6.0.2) and have had no trouble. Now I download Reader X and it demands Safari. So what must I do? Return to Safari (do not like it!) or return to Reader 9, which, incidentally, does not work on Firefox NOW! Why? Is Firefox bad news or something? If anyone out there in cyberland can help, thanks.

And yes i can open by the programm itself directly, but i have no idea how to correct the file association then....

  • PC-LinuxOS: Firefox has Adobe8 reader, but any site with a PDF shows a blank screen. I must download and Open with Adobe Reader. How do I reinstall?

The Firefox browser works fine, however if I attempt to open a PDF within the browser, it does not open it.
I'm just not familiar enough with the system, but understand I should be able to use a command line to access a directory, and by erasing a file, cause the system to reassociate the add-on.
I do not know the proceedure, nor which directories I need to access to reset this add-on so Firefox can reassociate it.

What is your operating system?  Reader version?  Downloading from what browser?

  • BURNING TO BLU-RAY IN FCP 7

    OK MAC FAMILY
I have a 17" mac book pro laptop with:
    a)...4gb of ram
b)...160gb internal hard drive with 60gb of free space available
c)...2.4.ghz intel core 2 duo processer
d)...256mb geforce 8600m gt graphic card
e)...2tb western digital external hard drive
    f)...intel high def audio
    g)...Lacie d2 blu-ray burner w/firewire 800/400 & 2.0 usb
    h)...the new snow leopard OS
    i)...the new fcp7 studio
It took me 20 hours total from the rendering process of my timeline to the complete burn on to blu-ray disc. The hi def footage total time is 1hr & 50min.
And it took another 15 hour to take that same hi-def footage and burn it to a standard definition disc using the new DVD feature in fcp7.
    HERE'S MY QUESTIONS:
#1)what is the average time to burn 1 hour and 50 min hi def footage to a blu ray disc using the new fcp7 through the new new blu-ray feature?
#2)is there a faster way to burn 2 hour of hi def footage in less time?
#3)what is the shortest time anyone burned 2 hours of hi def footage in fcp7?

    Hey Charlie,
    Welcome to Apple's FCP forum.
#1)what is the average time to burn 1 hour and 50 min hi def footage to a blu ray disc using the new fcp7 through the new new blu-ray feature?
    Ages ... seriously tho, sorry, I don't know :/
#2)is there a faster way to burn 2 hour of hi def footage in less time?
Yes, absolutely, you need a faster Mac with more processors to lend to the task. An 8 core Mac Pro with all cores lent to the encoding via a Compressor cluster will leave your MBP in the dust. Or a hardware based encoder such as that provided by Matrox in their MXO2 "MAX" line of I/O devices. My MXO2 MAX will encode 60 minutes of HD content to H264 for BluRay in real time (you still have to burn it to disc thereafter, and the speed of that depends on the speed of your burner).
#3)what is the shortest time anyone burned 2 hours of hi def footage in fcp7?
    Sorry, I encode but I don't burn.
    Best
    Andy
