FCP X running slow with multicam

Question

I'm currently using Final Cut Pro X to edit a project with 3 different camera angles.  The program has been working fine until recently.  Now, every time I try to use the multicam editor to switch angles, I get the spinning wheel of death and the video freezes (but audio keeps going).  It happens on every angle-cut, and is making it impossible to move forward with the project.  Any ideas on how to avoid this serious lag?

At the time of the read-out there was 880 MB of memory unused, but at some point in the process, the  RAM couldn't keep up with demands on it and so >2.2 GB was written to your (slower) hard drive. More RAM could and probably would help.
Have to say that when I began to experience a more extreme example of this last year, simply repairing permissions in DIsk Utility did wonders. Before, what I did as a routine matter is check in with AM whenever I felt things starting to drag. If memory looked like it was getting to be an issue, I'd shut down FCP and re-launch.

That is not to say RAM is the sole reason for your multicam problems but it could be one factor. And to Luis' USB2 question, if you aren't getting adequate throughput from the WD drive, that could be the majority of problem.
