Feedback on your experience with ATV upscaling to ~ 50" plasma

Can anyone provide feedback with their experience on resolution playing movies on a 1080 50" plasma? Currently we are viewing on a temporary solution LCD HD 24." My ultimate plan is to replace my ATV with a mac mini, but for now wondering about the upscale quality of the ATV with a much larger screen. Currently I rip my home dvds at HB's "Apple TV" preset. What's been your experience and best user flow for getting your DVD content to work well on ATV with larger display screens? Very curious.

Whether to upscale using the tv or the tv is a decision that should be based around your tv's ability to upscale.
I have one tv (48" Sharp) that is appalling at upscaling and i let the tv upscale in this instance. I have another tv (50" LG which is exceptionally good at upscaling and let the tv do the upscaling in that instance. I have 3 other tv's of varying sizes that don't particularly look any different whether I let the tv or the tv do the upscaling.

  • Your Experience with RSSM / compatibility mode in BW 3.X ?

    Hi Folks,
we have a dozen of InfoObjects referencing 0costcenter. These Objects are used in several InfoProviders and queries.
We also have more than 500 authorizations definitions for hierarchies, at the time being defined on 0costcenter.
This all works fine with RSSM compatibility for referencing Characteristics switched to “on”.
Now I came across the strong recommendation of SAP (Note 728 077) to switch off all compatibility modes in BW 3.X systems.
If I understood it correctly, we’ll have to create an authorization object for each referencing InfoObject, which is not the point. Moreover we’ll have to duplicate all our authorization definitions so that every node is defined for every referencing InfoObject. This will result in more than 5,000 authorization definitions! Needless to say, that we’re afraid of maintainability.
We’re therefore tending to keep compatibility mode switched to “on”, which means to ignore SAP’s recommendation.
Could you please share your experiences with compatibility mode in 3.X Systems?
Is there another way to obey the recommendation and not ending up in a bunch of authorization definitions?
How is this issue solved in BW 7.0?
    Looking forward to your answers.
    Best regards
    Robert

    Hi,
go to RSSM and give your infoprovider name and check the authrization objects which are present in the infoprovider ...it will have option ticked.
Basically authorizations are based on company code or sales org.
give that authorization object in the first option in RSSM and check on which infoobject it is based.
Also you can give your user id in one of the option in this transaction RSSM and then you can check for that authorization object do you have any values present for the included infoobjects or not.
You will not have those values entry here in the authorization object for those selections which you are giving during the report run.
Just change the vales here and give the desired value for which you are running the report.
    Save it.

  • PT 8.52 - Early adopters? What has been your experience with it in Prod?

After our HR upgrade to HR 9.1 and PT 8.51 in October, 2011, there is desire to turn around and do a Tools only upgrade to PT 8.52 this spring for various reasons (iPad tablet certification, etc). I remember a 2010 OpenWorld presentation where Oracle recommended that the "sweet spot" for go-live of a new Tools version was about 12-13 months after GA. I have found that advice to be sound in the real world as well.
What is the general vibe of PT 8.52 in Production? What have been your experiences with 8.52? If you are in Production, are you either HR, FSCM or CRM?
    Thanks,

Could someone please post or send the upgrade documentation you have followed?.
Or please, send me an URL to the upgrade documentation.
It appears that the upgrade documentation might not be complete and/or correct.
    The problem:_
Your upgrade environment has a psio_dir.dll from the previous/old PT850/PT851 install.
To validate this check out the size and the date stamp of the file. It will show the year as 2009 and the size as 48KB.
    THE FIX:_
Bring down your Application Server. Remove all the cache and log files.
Permanetntly REMOVE (not rename) the psio_dir.ll from *$PS_HOME/\bin\server\winx86\psio_dir.dll* from your PeopleSoft Application Server environment.
    Bring up your Application Server.
If you are a developer using/doing work using Application Designer, permanently remove <PS_HOME>\bin\client\winx86\psio_dir.dll from your Application Designer machine.
    This should fix your problem.
    thanks,
    Subbu
Note - I do not speak for Oracle. These comments are of my own.

  • OnyX for Snow Leopard, How has been your experience with it?

What is OnyX? it's in the apple download page, I know it is a maintenance tool. However I have a few questions about it, it is safe to use? Can it cause system instability? (Cache out X does that), How has been your experience with it?
I'm asking this just to know if its worth installing in my Mac, because I don't want a tool that says it will increase system performance, and then when you run it, you'll end up with an under performing system giving you a lot of error logs that take hard drive space away.
    Thank You.

Well, if the person already knows the admin password, then he is an administrator. He can then promote his own account to admin and take over the whole machine.
Hmm. I don't see how that would work. Once you enter the admin password, you'd be able to do anything OnyX had in its feature set.
Exactly. I, as an admin user, but who uses a non-admin account for everyday use, could launch OnyX in my non-admin account, enter the admin password, and then use it. Completely secure. A non-admin user who doesn't know the admin user would still be prevented from using OnyX at all. That allows for the same level of security as exists right now, and is how all other system utilities, even ones provided by Apple, work.
We'll have to agree to disagree there. It's a good safety net for the less computer savvy. Like keeping your kids away from such utilities.
All I'm asking for is for OnyX to ask for admin credentials when being launched from a non-admin account. Then, if the non-admin user can't enter the admin password, then the program would simply quit. If an administrator is there to authenticate, then the administrator can launch and use it to maintain and/or repair the non-admin account. That is 100% completely as secure as the situation now.
But the current situation is that it will simply refuse to open at all under a non-admin account, meaning that not even an administrator can use it to repair or maintain a non-admin account. That isn't any additional layer of security. It's quite the contrary; it's preventing an administrator from administering the computer.
Right now the only workaround to get OnyX to do any maintenance on a non-admin account is to temporarily promote that account to admin. I would argue that that is a heck of a lot less secure than simply allowing an administrator to launch the app from the non-admin account without having to promote the whole account to admin.
All admin utilities provided by Apple - Software Update, all the secure System Preferences, Disk Utility, Workgroup Manager, even sudo on the command line, all allow themselves to be run from any non admin account, by an administrator who can enter the admin password. All of this conforms to Apple's security guidelines. OnyX is broken if it doesn't follow those guidelines.
The OnyX developer seems to assume that everyone runs all the time in an admin account, and it will only clear browser caches in admin accounts. The fact that Apple warns against even browsing the web while logged in to an admin account shows that the OnyX developer has a thing or two to learn about security configuration.

  • Refurbished MacBook Pro Owners: Post your experiences with "Refurbs" here.

Hello Everyone. For the past few months I've been seriously thinking about getting a Mac notebook. When I get my Mac, I plan to run Final Cut Express HD for a few years, and If I decide to get a MacBook Pro then after a few more years I'll upgrade to Final Cut Studio. During my research of Macs I've stumbled upon something that really seemed to catch my eye; Refurbished MacBook Pro's for 41% Off Original Price. As far as I know, according to a few refurbished MBP owner's comments and Apple's brief description of it's "Stringement Refurbishing Process," it seems like a good deal to me, but of course it's always good to ask those who have already purchased a Refurbished MacBook Pro to see just how good of a job Apple does on refurbishing their products. That's why I've come here. For your comments. For all of you who have previously purchased a Refurbished MacBook Pro or other related item, please tell me about your experiences with your refurbished products. Was it a good experience? Or was it a bad experience, and feel free to go into as much detail as you need because I'll read your entire comment no matter how long. As you can see I'm pretty desperate for some owner's opinions so I will very much appreciate any comments that you give me. Thanks in advance for all your help and comments!

I received my refurbished 2.16GHz Macbook Pro on Tuesday and had a similar instance to Ty-Guy. My shipping box wasn't visibly damaged but the Macbook Pro was warped in the center which caused the case to buckle out, right above the lid latch. I called Apple Care and they offered a full refund or an exchange. I opted for the exchange. After the call, I decided I might be able to live with the Macbook Pro as-is with maybe a little "tweaking". After a few hours of use I realized it also suffered from the glitchy DVD drive issue - some would read, some wouldn't, some that would read were ssssssllllloooowwww. So another call to Apple Care and 20 minutes later I had a Fedex return label emailed to me. 2 hours after I printed the label from the Fedex website, I received another email that my replacement Macbook Pro was already shipped Priority Overnight to me! However inconvenient it may be that I have to send a unit back for defects, Apple more than made up for it by handling it the way they did.
And as far as Apple's strict refurbishment process goes, it is more than likely that the Macbook Pro arrived warped due to the shipping/packaging and not to lack of quality control. My Macbook Pro had no support underneath the center of it in the package. Which when subjected to say, a delivery person dropping it, would result in the area without support taking the brunt of the force. At least, that's my interpretation of it.

  • Your experience with mail-in repairs

i have to send my macbook in for the random shut down repairs (mine have just begun). i was just wondering how your experience was...did you lose all your files, get your macbook back scratched, etc? i was told to back up all my files so now i have to buy an external hardrive just for this repair.
    i'd appreciate some feedback!

I had a HD problem, they picked it up Monday morning, received it Tuesday at 5:57am and I'll have it Thursday..
I usually get lucky with electronics, and I hadn't a problem for almost 4 months with my current MB. I wasn't upset that something went wrong, but the timely manner they fixed it is superior.
Although I've heard longer wait times because they are receiving lots of RSD and the parts needed for repair are backordered..

    Hi there,
please give me an overview how your experiences (positive and negative) are with Webdynpro ABAP??
    Here are mine:
    Pos:
    - fast GUI modelling
    - browser = client
    Neg:
    - runtime
    - unflexible controls
    - no developer influence on programming modell
(i dont like filling code snippets)
    - No Unddo-Button in IDE
    - auto-completion show names which are not member
      of current class/object
    Thx for your input.
    Regards,

On 1: Depends on the used client. With server-side rendering you will have some delay for the server roundtrip, smart clients are smarter.
On 2: Changing of fonts/colors has not been exposed via API to enforce consistency. Only themes as a whole should be changed. Remember that the primary purpose of Web Dynpro are business applications like ERP.
Positioning of controls restrictive? What does that mean? You cannot place controls by absolute coordinates (which is most probably not a godd idea for localizable applications) but you get a set of powerful layout managers like MatrixLayout etc.

Hi, sorry am not in Eu; i live in the US... the mini notebook model I have is NB505-N508BN. I think you should have equivalent models where you live. Just wanted to say that I have been able to successfully install and dual boot between Win 7 Starter and Kubuntu 11.04, on my netbook. In fact, i mostly use Kubuntu now, unless I need to make a backup of my system (which I do from Windows). It works great and I love it. Right now I am posting from a Firefox browser opened in Kubuntu.
I posted a long note and some screenshots of my Kubuntu 11.04 in the Toshiba mini netbooks users forum (US). please see this link if you are interested. Y'all have fun...

  • Experiences With ATV and Season/Multi-Passes

I'm looking for some user experiences regarding AppleTV and Season/Multi-Passes purchased from iTunes, as well as podcasts etc. I've noticed some ATV owners issuing complaints in regards to new episodes not downloading properly, as well as having to to download to their computer before transferring to their ATV.
Since most folks won't post here unless there is a problem, its sometimes hard to gauge the actual frequency of an issue like this. So I put this to you, ATV owners/operators, lovers and haters: has the user experience of the ATV been mostly positive, or have problems like the one mentioned above reduced the functionality of the unit?
FYI, I'm currently looking into purchasing an AppleTV, but if I can't expect shows and podcasts to automatically download while I am away then I don't think this is the solution I'm looking for.
Thanks for your (hopefully thought out and balanced) opinions.

For the most part, the season/multi-passes I have subscribed to have worked as advertised. I receive e-mail notices and the new episodes download automatically to iTunes when they become available (this requires setting iTunes to check for new episodes automatically).
I have had a few problems in the past with not receiving notices or being able to retrieve new episodes that were online in the iTunes store, but not recently. I also had a big problem a few months ago with my iTunes store account becoming almost completely non-functional, but that was apparently the result of database corruption in the iTunes store that was fixed by iTunes store support after I complained about it.
The only ongoing problem I continue to have is that none of my multi-passes automatically renew even though I have them set to do so. I always get an e-mail message saying there was a problem renewing my multi-pass, but buying a new multi-pass manually always works. I have complained about this problem several times already, but it continues.

  • Creative, Is it worth it? (i.e. whats your experience with the Zen 16gb) and Firmware questi

After doing a sizable amount of research on the Creative Zen 6gb MP3 player, I was relati'vely comfortable with the product and decided to purchase it.
However, after browsing this forum for a few hours, I see quite a few things that trouble me about Creative in general:
"Real person" my (CENSORED) -horrible customer support
Creative Expects 3rd Quarter Loss, Sells HQ Building?
Message to Daniel_K -lack of product support/customer relations
and a countless number of other posts about hardware and software issues with the Zen
I really like the features built into the MP3 player (FM transmitter, voice recorder, Equalizer) and do not want to sell my soul to Ipod.
That being said, I wanted to see if there was anyone on this forum that actually liked their Zen and did not have issues with it.
I would greatly appreciate your positi've feedback as I hope that I will not have to spend countless more hours searching for and then researching a different MP3 player that fits my needs.
In addition, I was curious about the user interface on the Zen. I know that it uses ID3 tagging and that a folder directory cannot be used to view mp3s on the player (unless this has been added in a firmware update?, however I checked the site and did not see anything about this addition). How impeding is this ID3 tagging reliance if about 00 to 500 of my mp3s have incorrect tagging? as in, will I go crazy trying to retag everything because all I see if "Unknown" for all the data?
Yeah, that's about it for my long winded post...
    Thanks,
    Joe?

Just return from Mexico and found my Zen 4 GB player missing from a light finger baggage handler. I would not even consider, in a thousand years, of purchasing from the "fruit company" their overprice Ipod without a FM receiver. The Creative Zen rocks. Need I say more.

  • Unified Job Monitoring -Share your experiences with SAP Solution Manager 7.1

    Dear Forum members,
I woudl like to introduce myself as Raghav, S. I am in the development team responsible for building the unified job monitoring workcenter starting 7.1 SP10 (onwards).
Please post your feedback, current status wrt to setup, commmon issues in this area.
I will be more than glad to help you here.

    Development Manager
CLM - Solution manager team, Labs India.

    Hello Raghev,
we implemented unfied job monitoring on a larger scale by now, starting out with the monitoring of SAP Standard & Reorg Jobs.
Everything seemed quiet OK at the beginning, but over time display performance of the Monitoring UI decreased drastically (exceeding 5 Min. "per click" in the UI).
I pinned this down to the following (Oracle) SQL access:
      SELECT
      "CLIENT", "CONTEXT_ID", "TYPE_ID", "HASH_METRIC_PATH", "START_TIMESTAMP", "IS_CURRENT", "END_TIMESTAMP",
      "METRIC_PATH", "RATING_AGGREGATE", "VALUE_MIN", "VALUE_MAX", "VALUE_SUM", "VALUE_COUNT", "VALUE_LAST",
      "VALUE_DATA_TYPE", "VALUE_MAX_TIME", "LAST_TEXT"
    FROM
      "MES_DB_AGGREGATE"
    WHERE
      "CLIENT"=:A0 AND "CONTEXT_ID"=:A1 AND "TYPE_ID"=:A2 AND "IS_CURRENT"=:A3 OR "CLIENT"=:A4 AND
      "CONTEXT_ID"=:A5 AND "TYPE_ID"=:A6 AND "IS_CURRENT"=:A7 OR "CLIENT"=:A8 AND "CONTEXT_ID"=:A9 AND
      "TYPE_ID"=:A10 AND "IS_CURRENT"=:A11 OR "CLIENT"=:A12 AND "CONTEXT_ID"=:A13 AND "TYPE_ID"=:A14 AND
      "IS_CURRENT"=:A15 OR "CLIENT"=:A16 AND "CONTEXT_ID"=:A17 AND "TYPE_ID"=:A18 AND "IS_CURRENT"=:A19
The execution plan used for this SQL is:
    0
    SELECT STATEMENT
    1
    INLIST ITERATOR
    2
TABLE ACCESS BY INDEX ROWID MES_DB_AGGREGATE
    3
    INDEX RANGE SCAN  MES_DB_AGGREGATECU
MES_DB_AGGREGATE in our case has over 5 million entries.
The parameterization of the DB incl. Memory and all should be OK.
The index range scan simply takes that long.
This might be, because the MES_DB_AGGREGATECU index has the lowest cardinality column (CLIENT) first.
    Header 1
    Header 2
    COLUMN_NAME
    NUM_DISTINCT
    CLIENT
    1
    CONTEXT_ID
    433
    TYPE_ID
    2192
    IS_CURRENT
    2
Could you have your team check on this, because with the situation as is, the Job Monitoring application seemingly becomes non-usable, as soon, as you start to scale up.
    Best Regards,
    Thorsten

  • Please share your experience with the universal dock for iphone 3g

    Hi There,
    1. Can people share their experience of the universal dock with the iphone 3g adapter. My concern is that does the tight fit scratch the black lower back of the iphone plastic everytime we remove it or put it in? OR is there enough gap for the iphone to slip in and out without scratching.
    2. Anyone having issues with the universal dock or does it work fine for most?
    thanks in advance,
    cheers,
    Sunil

    Thanks for your advice.
I recently purchased a universal dock for my iphone 3g. It works great. I just had one question. When my iphone is sitting on it for lets say 20 - 30 minutes. Then if i press the buttons on the remote. nothing happens! If I then press the home button while it is on the cradle then, the remote, it plays music. There after lets say if I stop stop the music through the remote and again press the remote button after a few minutes it starts playing. So what happens after a long time. Why do i have to press the home button on the iphone for the remote to work. Is that how it is supposed to work???
    Thanks

  • Your Experience With Direct-From-Camera Hard Disc Recorders

I've been exploring purchasing a FireStore camera-mounted hard disc recorder, and was wondering if anyone has any experience using one of these devices.
Right now I'm wary of them, due to the fact that I would want to have the time code on my video tapes perfectly synchronized with the time code on the disc's video files, so I could use FCP to re-capture the footage later if necessary. It seems unlikely that they are capable of maintaining this synchronization, especially if you wanted to review a shot in the field.
    Thanks,
    Zap

Zap...be wary. Be VERY WARY of these devices. Among issues with this device are the fact that because it is formatted FAT-32 you only get 2GB file sizes...little over 2 min chunks of video. And during the transition from one 2GB file to the next, between 1 and 5 frames are dropped...lost...not recorded.
I highly recommend the P2 card and ONLY the P2 cards. When the video switches from one card to the second, not one frame is lost.
And a recapture with this format isn't a re-capture per se, but a re-import. Because you save the original files that the HVX records on separate hard drives than your media drives. The footage is imported.
    Have you seen my tutorial?
Firestore is a bad idea. Cineporter...if it ever sees the light of day, might be an option.

  • Your experience with Modify Clip "Stereo" or "Mono as Stereo"

    Using CS5.
When recording my project our audio was recorded externally.  I have all my audio tracks recorded as mono and I want to use all of the tracks as stereo.
I found instructions on how to do it, but I have some questions.
I highlight an unused audio clip on my project panel and then use Clip> modify > Audio channels.
Among the choices are Mono, Stereo, Mono as Steeo and 5.1
Since my clips are mono, I assume I should select "Mono as Stereo".   But is there a subtle difference to selecting "Stereo".?
In addition, I want to fill both right and left tracks with the recording that was recorded in mono.  I would like to avoid having to use the audio effects fill right / fill left.  I assume using either "Mono as Stereo" or "Stereo" will fill both right and left tracks -- but, again, is there some subtle differences -- or best practices?
    Thanks
    Rowby

    Hi Jim,
Just checked the "mono" track with my headphones -- and indeed you are correct. I hear it in on both channels.
So nothing needs to be done.
However, then, why does Premiere Pro have  these "features"?
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS1c9bc5c2e465a58a91cf0b1038518aef7-7f41a .html
Thinking more about this, however, as I write this reply,I like putting a mono track directly above or below a stereo track -- and as you know, you can't put mono track into a stereo track (you have to create a new mono track, which is a minor pain) -- so that would be at least one reason to convert the mono to a stereo.....  I have to create a new mono track - and sometimes that track is far below the stereo track I want to mix it with.
I also notice this article which implies you can make it so when you import any track (mono or stereo) into premiere it will be (based on your preference settings) "converted" to  mono, stereo, mono as stereo) etc.
