Feel bad for asking this but

I'm new to this forum and only just bought an 80GB iPod classic. Anyway, I don't actually like the menu displays. I never put cover art on my iPod and it also annoys me when you see a track and instead of the cover art it comes up with a grey box and question mark. Is there any way or any software you can use to either get rid of these, or change the display settings for it to be like the menus of a 5th generation iPod?
I feel bad for asking, feel bad for not liking the new screen designs, but can anyone please help me out?

There is not way to change it short of hacking the iPod, and I don't know of any that are currently available. You could find someone with a late 5th Gen iPod and trade with them.
Why not put the cover are on it and go with the flow..so to speak.

  • I feel stupid for asking this, but-

    I've made a very simple workflow with Automator that opens up multiple documents (in this case, VectorWorks CAD files) and prints them as PDFs. The problem, if it can be called that, is that I end up having to press the return key three times for each document: Once to confirm that I want to print it, once to confirm the PDF's name and location, and once to save the CAD file before it's closed. The default settings for each prompt are always correct.
    I can't work out how to tell Automator to press return for me. Is the answer likely to be staring me in the face, or do I need to import either an action or an AppleScript from elsewhere? I know nothing about AppleScripts; if I needed to write something like this, assuming it's possible, would it be easy?
    Thanks in advance to anyone who'll shed some light on this for me. It would be nice to be able to do something else instead of being a yes-man for Automator.

    Memento Mori,
    Know need to apologize as you won't find that capability in Automator yet. You have already guessed the work around which is to use AppleScript.
    I am not sure whether VectorWorks CAD has an AppleScript dictionary but even if it doesn't it should be possible. If you prefer an Automator workflow then a "Run AppleScript" action could be created such as below.
    As I don't have access to VectorWorks CAD I am guessing on the name of the application and whether a delay of 2 seconds between each sending of return is enough on your machine. You need to copy this text to a "Run AppleScript" action in Automator. Note that you must replace all of the text and not just that labelled (* Your script goes here *).
    click here to open this script in your editor<pre style="font-family: 'Monaco', 'Courier New', Courier, monospace; overflow:auto; color: #222; background: #DDD; padding: 0.2em; font-size: 10px; width:400px">on run {input, parameters}
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "VectorWorks CAD"
    set frontmost to true
    keystroke return
    delay 2
    keystroke return
    delay 2
    keystroke return
    delay 2
    return input
    end run</pre>

  • I feel dumb for asking this, but... please

    I ussually work with text based or frame, but now i'm working with paint and I cant even get it to display a rectangle. When I try to run it it says, "applet notinited" I do have an init() Method but I dont know if it's related or not, heres the visual snippet of the code...
    class Runner extends Applet{
    cow A = new A();
    public void init()
    A.X1=2;
    A.X2=3;
    A.Y1=2;
    A.Y2=3;
    A.runAway();
    public void paint(Graphics tg){
    tg.setColor(Color.green);
    tg.drawRect(500,500,0,0);
    };

    notinited" I do have an init() Method but I dont know
    if it's related or not, heres the visual snippet of
    the code..."Applet not inited" message usually means that your applet tag isn't correct or similar. Your codebase could be off or something.

  • I feel stupid just asking this, but...

    I'm trying to write a class to extend PrintStream, but no matter what I do my constructor is flagged with the error:
    Cannot resolve symbol
    Symbol: Constructor PrintStream ()
    Location: class java.io.PrintStream
    Here's the code:
    import java.io.PrintStream;
    import java.io.OutputStream;
    public class OutWriter extends PrintStream {
        public static OutWriter writer = new OutWriter();
        private OutWriter() {
            System.setOut(this); //Redirect System.out
        public static OutWriter getInstance() {
            return writer;
        public void print(String text) {
            //Redirect to JTextPane
    }I'm completely confused. Is PrintStream extendable? I'm certain this error is incredibly simple, but I don't see what I'm missing. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

    It gives me the same error. Here's some updated code:
    import java.io.ByteArrayOutputStream;
    import java.io.PrintStream;
    import java.io.OutputStream;
    public class OutWriter extends PrintStream {
        public static OutWriter writer = new OutWriter(new ByteArrayOutputStream());
        private OutWriter(OutputStream out) {
            System.setOut(this); //Redirect System.out
        public static OutWriter getInstance() {
            return writer;
        public void print(String text) {
            //Redirect to JTextPane
    }Do I need to override all of the constructors? I've never had this problem with extending a class before. Very strange...

    i'm sorry for repeating this, but i have not found a clear, step-by-step answer in several hours.
    i have a macbook with iTunes library, a new iMac, and a new time capsule. how can i transfer my itunes library from TC backup to the iMac?
    (sharing the iTunes library between the macbook & iMack requires both machines and seems silly ...)
    thank you -

    No.

  • I feel stupid asking this but.....

    Hi
    feel real stupid asking these questions but here goes: -
    What is the 'Option' key on the keybord?
    If i want use a hash character how do i do that?
    when i sign in on my mac i have to type in my password but if i type it wrong it takes me to a windows equivalent of 'DOS' mode why does it do this and how can i stop it?

    Hi Again Mr Lenz!
    You will find information about all of the keys here Apple Human Interface Guidelines: The Keyboard.
    The Option/alt key is located between the Command⌘ and Control keys.
    To type a # character, press the Shift + 3 keys. If it's a European keyboard, press the Option + 3 keys.
    I'm not sure about the wrong password behavior. If you enter the correct password, does it login OK?

  • I want to prevent MyDay from starting up when I switch on.  I have followed all instructions for doing this, but to no effect.  I have unlocked and relocked.

    I use an Macbook from 2006 with OS X 10.7.5
    MyDay starts up every time I switch on.  I don't use it, so want to remove it from the list of programs which start automatically.  I have followed all instructions for doing this, and have of course unlocked and relocked the relevant page in Systems Preferences, but the instruction never 'sticks', and MyDay still starts every time.  Anyone know what to do?

    Check StartupItems...
    Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type or copy paste the following:
    /Library/StartupItems
    Click Go. If you see any reference to MyDay, delete it. That does not delete the app Just keeps it from launching when you startup your Mac.
    Just to be sure, you checked System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login Items   ??
    Unlocking or locking the padlock icon only prevents other users from changing your preferences.

  • Feel Very Stupid Asking This....But I Need An Answer

    So, I've had my HP m6 for a good while (years) and just the other day, I was attempting to play a game on it...only for it to crash upon start up.  After researching the issue, many people suggested updating the graphic drivers....and so I went on to research how to go about doing that.
    I found my chip, it's an Intel...so I went to the Intel site, found my chip, and found a whole bunch of new(er) driver updates ready to be downloaded.  I figured this would be easy...but it seems I can't download their updates...because HP has a lock on being able to do that.  The other option was to come here and download the updates directly from the HP site...but this is where my main issue comes from.  The last update that HP released for my chip and driver was back in 2012...while Intel has updates for my chip from May of 2014.
    I really don't understand why this is...the way it is.  But if someone could help me out...just give me a flat answer as to whether or not I have to buy a new computer just to play a game, or if there's some work around to where I can get the update I need in order to play...for free?

    Hi Dilaudid281,
    Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY m6 Notebook and issue with graphic updates.  The HP Support Assistant will help with drivers and software that are recommended for your HP Notebook and the hardware that is installed. Most driver sites do recommend to use the Manufacture's drivers. I would be happy to assist if needed as there are many models of ENVY m6 notebooks I would need the model number. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
    Please respond with which Operating System you are running:
    Which Windows Operating System am I running?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks.

  • Thought I already asked this, but don't see it.  Want to know what the "Render" feature is for and how you use it.

    I've watched several of the tutorials.  I was able to upload a video yesterday to YouTube, but today, I made a new video, and after three tries, never could get it to upload.  Kept getting an error asking if I wanted to TRY AGAIN.
    As I was editing my video, the sound never seemed to work right with the video.  The video would freeze, and the sound would keep going.  Strange.  I figured I needed to push "Render", but have no idea what it does.  Can't find a tut on it.
    Any help will be much appreciated.  I have six versions of PS, and I have never been able to get videos to upload to YouTube except for the one I got to go yesterday.  Failure today.

    Big question. After you pressed the Render button and the Timeline rendering was completed, did the video portion play back better in the Edit area monitor?
    Timeline rendering is just a preview feature. It does not fix a problem. It is the program telling you if you are viewing the best possible preview that the project has to offer. The program uses a color indicator line over the Timeline content to tell you if you are seeing the best possible preview.
    No color line  or green line = you are seeing the best possible preview, no Timeline rendering needed or available. In this condition, if you hit the Render button, all you will do is play back the Timeline content in the monitor...no Timeline Rendering. An orange line over the Timeline content is the program telling you that you do not have the best possible preview and in order get that you need do Timeline rendering. You can do that
    a. pressing the Render button above the Timeline area
    b. going to Timeline Menu/Render Work Area or use the shortcut for that, just press the Enter Key of the computer main keyboard.
    You do not have to do Timeline rendering, but it is your window of opportunity to catch a problem sooner than later. It is particularly indicated
    when for titles, effects, transitions, and non native formats.
    And, if you are getting the orange line over content suggesting that you do Timeline rendering, you can select the area where you
    want the rendering done under that orange line.....you set the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar to span the area that you want rendered.
    Also, the process of Timeline rendering deposits preview files on your hard drive automatically. These preview fields for a SD project are DV AVI files (whether you render a still or video file) and for HD project are MPEG2.mpg files (whether you render a still or video file). You should keep watch for pile ups of those preview files if you are getting in a free hard drive space crunch.

    This screenshot is from Premiere Elements 12
    I could go on and on about Timeline Rendering. Do you want more?
    As for the workflow problems that you are now having, have we discussed them before. I will look for any of your prior threads to see
    if we have talked about these problems before.
    Please let me know if you are OK with the above.
    Thanks.

  • I feel stupid asking this but here goes...

    I upgraded to the new Numbers and when you save your spreadsheet and say your cursor is on row 500 column 10 and next time you open that spreadsheet how do you get back to that position without scrolling or paging down a million times?  In an Excel spreadsheet it remembers the last spot you were in, does Numbers have a way to remember the last spot?
    In the previous version of Numbers I could just tap the down arrow and it would jump to the saved spot, but that doesn't work in the new version, it just stays at the top of the spreadsheet.
    Thank you for your help.
    Matt

    I do not see a way (natively) to deal with this.  You can post a comment to Apple using the menu item "Number > Provide Number Feedback"
    As a follow on (work around) you could add a small table that you leave near the area of interest, then you can select that table to "jump" to that spot using the sheet menu:
    In this example "Table 2" was my marker table

  • Feel stupid asking this but I've lost something

    I cannot find the structure view, nothing visibly happens when I select view structure - I think I may have undocked it - but now I can't seem to locate it again. Help!

    found it - floating, non-modal

  • I'm embarrassed to even ask this, but: what does 'this' refer to?

    I am losing the plot trying to Google 'this'; it just isn't working. BUT I did find a description by looking at the ActionScript 3.0 documentation index. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/statements.html#this
    Here it is:
    "A reference to a method's containing object. When a script executes, the this keyword references the object that contains the script. Inside a method body, the this keyword references the class instance that contains the called method."
    Soooo, to access a property or method from a method within the same class, you would type this: this.method() or this.property, right? I'm pretty sure it works without 'this.', but it's confusing me because I learnt PHP before ActionScript, and you always require 'this ->' in this circumstance.
    Also, what the aubergine does 'this' refer to when used from the main timeline (not within a class)?
    Post script:
    Sorry about using the word 'this' so much……… this.

    1. I think Ned's explanation linking this keyword to timeline is limiting because timline can be an attribute of MovieClip instance only whereas this keyword refers to ANY AS3 object's instance scope. Main clue is the word INSTANCE. So, this keyword has much wider meaning and usage.
    2. Although this is true that one of the conveniences of this is to use it as an associative array, I wouldn't say it is the main usage. In my opinion, in well designed OOP applications the is not need for associative array syntax because there are many more efficient approaches to reference to properties.
    "I won't be needing to use the 'this' statement to access other methods and properties from within the same class."
    You should reconsider.
    Here are examples when this is very useful:
    A. Methods parameters vs instance properties/methods naming conventions.
    In this example method's parameter and instance property have the same name but there is no confusion:
    private var width:Number;
    public function changeWidth(width:Number):void {
        this.width = width;
    B. Names of instance property and method's variable are the same. Again, references are clear:
    private var myVariable:String;
    private function doSomething():void {
        var myVariable:String = "BLAH";
        this.myVariable = "ANOTHER BLAH";
    Also, although AS3 doesn't support overloading, one can call methods scoping them to either this or super.
    override protected function myFunction():void {
    private function callMyFunction():void {
        this.myFunction();
        super.myFunction();
    In addition, when static vs instance propertied/methods are used - one cannot scope static ones to this which sometimes is useful as well.

  • Sorry to ask this but: What Is A tag and how do I use it?

    I understand that 'tags' are info you attach to a pic, to help you find it later. But HOW do you attach a tag? I was expecting to find a menu pick, or something in a right-click menu that would say "edit tag" or "add tag", but I'm not finding it.
    I'm new to iPhoto, and pretty new to Macs in general. I'm sorry if this is too basic, but all beginners need a little help! Thanks much

    A Tag is a Keyword. Attaching Keywords is covered in the Help.

  • I feel so stupid asking this...

    I created a new folder within iTunes. I then dragged a couple smart playlists into that folder. But now I want to drag one of them out. But I can't...

    Thanks Liz - that did it for me. Now how utterly counterintuitive was that!! I also noticed you could drag it to the 'Source' mini-titlebar at the top. I think it's wrong to have the target light up with a '+' which indicates a copy when in fact a move is occurring. But I'm not the expert on good human interface design...
    Anyway, I think I'm griping so I better stop. Thanks again.

  • Can't believe Im asking this but,....

    ...how do you open the bottom DVD tray? I know about the top one opening with the upper right key but what about the other tray? Someone told me to push option and then that same key but that doesn't work.
    Thanks for the help.
