FF 3.6.6 :: Address Bar No Longer Works - Help?

After updating Firefox to version 3.6.6 on Windows XP SP 3, the address bar no longer works for navigating to pages. When entering any URL and pressing enter, the page reloads with google.com (which is my homepage in FF). Clicking some bookmarks works. However, navigating from search results in Google does not. I have tried reinstalling. Also, I have tried to start up in Safe Mode. Nothing helps. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Address bar no longer works with manually entered URLs

Four days ago the address bar stopped working. I am accustomed to manually entering many URLs and hitting 'enter' but although I can still enter URLs as normal, the 'enter' button does not load the relevant page, nor does the green arrow at the end of the address bar do so.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Add sender to address book no longer working

"Add sender to address book" no longer works. It flashes the menu bar as if it is working, however, when I go to the Address book, the new person is not there. This has been going on for a number of weeks.
Any ideas?

Since you have confirmed that the maintenance scripts have been used, then you may benefit from the troubleshooting procedures listed in Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption.
I would also suspect .plist corruption with com.apple.mail.plist and/or com.apple.AddressBook.plist.

Hotmail address book no longer works

My hotmail address book no longer works. When I press "To" in the address bar, nothing comes up. If I press "reply" to respond to an email then again, nothing happens. I have to copy and paste the address. The only way I can find out an address is to go into the search box, bring up an old email and paste the address from it. This problem happened a while ago and seems to be after one of the automatic Firefox updates. Please can you advise? Thanks

Clear the cache and the cookies from sites that cause problems.

The search feature in Address Book no longer works

I have over 2,400 contacts. For no apparent reason the search feature in my Apple Address Book no longer works. The Address Book app has quit several times recently, again for no apparent reason. It is probably unrelated, but Preview has also been quitting. I have repaired permissions and used Disk Warrior 4.4 to rebuild the directory. Any thoughts?

That was a while back...after a little research to jog my memory, it had to do with iCloud. I found this on another page, and I think this is what I did to fix it:
"I had the same problem and fixed it a slightly different (and probably safer) way:
Backup your Address Book - File > Export > Address Book Archive
Go into preferences > iCloud - untick syncing for Contacts
When it asks you, tell it to delete the contacts from your local Mac (all your local address cards will be deleted but they will still be in iCloud)
All your cards should now be deleted from Address Book on your Mac
Quit Address Book
Go into preferences > iCloud - tick syncing for Contacts (this will download your contacts into Address Book again)
Open Address Book and after a few secs you should see all your cards and the problem should be fixed"
The important part is to be sure to export your Address Book before doing anything. I think I ended up afater deleting all the cards and quitting address book, I reimported them from the backup I exported. Has been fine since. This is pretty safe as long as you have that exported file.

What you are getting is the AppleID (AppleID can be an email adress) used at the time of the purchase of this app. It is an identifiant allowing Apple to link your purchase to your account.
If you want to manage associated email, you can go at https://appleid.apple.com but the AppleID could never be modified.
I do not know if in your case, it is just that you no longer use your old email address or that you actually a 2 AppleID. In any case, you will have to remember the password related to the account used for your purchase. If you don't, just use the link above to try to retreive your password.

Why is my address bar no longer using "predictive" (don't know the proper term) text anymore?

For example, if I type in a letter such as "f," in the address bar, why does it no longer bring up the options of websites that are saved in my history and bookmarks?

Why is my address bar no longer retaining past sites that I have visited?

My address bar used to save frequently used web addresses in a dropdown menu accessed by clicking on the down arrow at the very right of the address bar. Without warning, it now only retains the addresses I visit during a specific session. At the end of each session, the Dropdown memory is wiped clean. How can I list addon icons in a row as in Firefox 30?

Update 1: If you customize icons, they will stand in a row, as expected. However they squeeze after firefox restart. Moving around search bar doesn't seem to help. When addon icons are too wide they seem to squeeze to a drop-down list automatically (after restart of firefox), regardless of what addons are there.

Battling claro-search. Address bar no longer displays "About Home". Instead I get "Go to Website" Problem?

I have been battling Claro-search. I have tried all displayed fixes including running Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. Every time I restart Firefox 16.0.1 the claro-search items show up in "About:config". My concern is that the address bar displays, "Go to Website" when it previously displayed "About Home". I have also tried to uninstall and reinstall firefox using a download from Mozilla site. Any suggestions? Thanks. Paul

Menu bar no longer working with IE update

With the recent update in IE my main menu bar is no longer working, the "hover" function is not working and looks like the links are broken, but the links do work if you actually click on them. From my vista machine it is OK but from my XP machine it does not show as being a link. The submenu's however do still work, here is the code, the first line is from the main menu and doesn't work, the 2nd line is a submenu and does work.

I recommend doing away with your mouseover/mouseout links and convert to using Cascading Style Sheets.

You don't say whether you are using Dreamweaver CS4 or an earlier version, but even if you are using that earlier version, you can type the code in yourself. Look especially at the tutorial chain "Designing with CSS", as there is a module that talks about a menu bar and how to make the links.

The Url History in the address bar is not working anymore. Reinstalling/Updating does not fix this. How to I get this working again?

I'm talking about the Address Bar.
For example: You type in Google and it shows www.google.com etc. Because this is in your history.
But this has stopped working since I emptied my cookies. But not my history. I also checked if my history is still there. Which it is.
And I cant find out why at all.
I'm sorry if I really can't give much info. But this is what I concluded. Seeing English ain't my native language. My google searches for this question seem to be either in the wrong direction or this is something that never happened before.

Tools>Options>Privacy - Click the drop down menu under Location Bar and set when using the location bar, suggest to - History and Bookmarks.

ITunes 8 "minimize to task bar" no longer works

Ok, i'll keep this short and simple.
On my PC running windows XP, one thing I always liked was I could minimize iTunes, and it would turn into a little controller that would live in my task/start menu bar at the bottom of the screen. Then, the other day I had to upgrade to iTunes 8 because my iPod required it. So I did so and now I am running iTunes 8.0.1.11.
iTunes 8 have be great, but I noticed that when I minimize it, it does turn into the controller, but it does not work. None of the buttons work, and volume is shown at 0% regardless of what it is actually set at, and sliding the bar or pushing buttons does absolutely nothing. In fact, I can't even get the menu or maximize button to work for it to restore back up in the normal window! So now if I am playing music, and minimize it, the music still plays but the controller does not work and the only way to stop the music, or for that fact, do anything in iTunes like bring up the window and close it, I have to CTRL ALT DEL and kill the iTunes process, then relaunch it!
Currently, i've disabled it by right clicking the task bar, going to tool bars, then unchecking the iTunes toolbar. Now when I minimize iTunes, it just goes to the normal "box" like other applications do when minimized, but it ***** not having the controller like I am used to.
So has anyone else had this issue? Is Apple aware of this issue to fix it within the next update?
If anyone has any information, suggestions or would like more info, pictures, etc, please let me know.

I just upgraded to iTunes 8.0.1.11 too (XP) and am seeing the same behavior. The little mini controller in the taskbar no longer works. If you double click the icon in the system tray, you can restore the iTunes window.
On the Advanced preferences tab, select both the "Show iTunes icon in system tray"
and the "Minimize iTunes window to system tray" checkboxes. If only the "Show iTunes icon in system tray" is selected, you will not be able to restore the iTunes window and will have to use the task manager to kill iTunes.
Hope this gets fixed, I found the task bar controller very handy for pausing/starting/volume control/etc.
