File Attachments Temporarily Disabled

Any word when, or if, this "temporary" forum limitation will be lifted?
Thanks,

  • File Attachments Temporarily Disabled: Joke? Ha! Ha!

On Feb 22, 2010, File Attachments were disabled... with the caveat that it was temporary. That 'Temporarily' now seems to be a joke... at whose expense i wonder...
Because, today, many moons and even more suns later ( i refuse to count), it still remains disabled...

    Hi Claudio
I only have the status of Community Professional and Moderator helper because I've been a tireless forums supporter since long before Adobe entered my world. In other words, I'm basically a simple user same as you. I'm a total volunteer that freely shares my time and I do not receive a paycheck from Adobe. Only recognition for being helpful to others. The forums activity for Jive only paint a partial picture because I've been through about six different incarnations of assorted forums software. Some I liked and some I didn't. But it's what we have to work with.
So please do tell us of your vast experience supporting forums that support a hundred or so products, thousands of users and probably spanning numerous servers. Obviously you seem to feel that you know much better than the folks at Adobe how things should be run. Personally I do not envy the position of Adobe and the folks that are responsible for maintenance of our community. They probably have Adobe management on one side screaming that they need to cut costs while they have the user community on the other telling them how bad things are with the community and the forums.
I never claimed things were perfect. All I did was state the facts as I see them. And the facts are that (pay close attention to this because it seems lost for so many) in the areas where I particpate we didn't see the world ending as some would like to paint the picture. Nobody left in disgust because the house was painted a different color and the room arrangement was different. The forums have shortcomings for sure. I openly said that all software has bugs. I meant the forums were no exception to this because they are software. I'm not saying this holds true for all forums. Only the ones where I participate. I've seen similar reports from other forum moderators here.
As for FAQs, I myself have created FAQs for my own fora and can attest that the majority of users simply ignore them. So even if they exist, you STILL end up answering many basic questions day after day from new users. Such is the nature of forums support. The way you get used to it is by remembering that we all are new to things and need help. So we create FAQs and hope for the best.
Basically you are saying that the forums simply aren't worth visiting. So this begs the following question. I will note that everyone has their own reasons for doing so and by asking you this please note that I'm in no way suggesting you should consider leaving. I'm genuinely interested to know what it is that keeps folks such as yourself and Phillip visiting day after day if you honestly feel the forums have nothing left to offer.
    Cheers... Rick

How can I disable the automatic hiding of known file attachments, and why are always about 10 internet pages where I have to download something when I use mozila firefox?
    Windows Computer

    1) If you are talking about the file names on the computer, there is a
setting to turn off known file types. Open your file browser. Then
just under the location bar, press '''Tools,''' then '''Folder Options.'''
A new window will open. Select '''View.''' Look for
'''Hide Extensions For Known File Types.'''
    2) Never NEVER '''NEVER''' download anything unless you know what
it is. If a web site claims it needs to download something, what is it?
It could be something like the flash player, '''or a virus ! !'''

    Possible Cause
When a database is being restructured or any application/database on the server is being copied, you can get this message.
    or
When a cube is being restructured, commands are restricted because the integrity of the cube has to be stable and no one is allowed to access it.
    or
Copying an application requires that the Essbase security file be in read/write mode and therefore other applications are not accessible until the process is completed.
    Possible Solution
In Application Settings, verify that the Allow Commands or Allow Updates options are not selected.
If not selected select those..and try

  • Temporarily Disabling Validation

    Hi,
I have a form which requires validation prior to it's final submission (fields must be populated, etc).
However, in order to pre-populate some of these fields, we also need to be able to submit the form to an external CRM to retrieve the FDF data for the form to be incorporated.
When doing this, the form is validated, and since there is no data yet, the submission fails and pre-population fails.
Is there any way to temporarily disable the validation of the form for the pre-population-submission, and then turn it back on following that?
The property xfa.host.validationsEnabled seems like a good candidate, but setting it to false doesn't seem to have any impact.
    Cheers,
    Martin

Thanks for providing me with that sample of your code. I can see what's happening but I don't know for sure why those fields you're making optional are remaining mandatory. It could be a timing issue (i.e. Acrobat's Object Model hasn't been updated with the mandatory to optional changes by the time you attempt to submit the form).
I can think of two possible solutions:
[Easiest of the two solutions] Since mandatory fields are flagged when they're null (when you haven't entered anything into them, which is the case on the Form:Ready event where you're executing the code which pre-submits the form to get the FDF data) and the problem you're getting is that Acrobat won't let you submit the form because it thinks some fields are mandatory, I would make all the fields optional and use Validation scripts like the one on the TextField. This way, you'll be able to pre-submit the form because all field values will be null initially and validations don't fail on null values because they aren't executed. This, however, will be a problem when the user submits the form via email because the email submit button will work even if one of the field's value is null (but now you want to make sure it's filled-in). To solve this problem, you would need to place a fake email submit button on the form (which is just a regular button), hide the real email submit button and put some validation code in its Click event. This validation code would verify that all fields contain valid data and aren't null. If this fails, you can show an error message and stop there. If all field values are acceptable, then you would execute the hidden email submit button's Click event in order to cause the form to be submitted via email:
    EmailSubmitButton1.execEvent("click");
[My least-favored solution] You could try setting all fields to optional in the Form:Ready event and move your code to pre-submit and get the FDF data into an
invisible (not hidden or else Acrobat won't let you modify its properties at runtime) text field's Validate event. The Validate event on the invisible text field would have some guards to prevent it from executing every time a field's value changes on the form. When setting fields as optional, this would cue the execution of form validations (validation scripts on Validate events) and, if certain guards are properly set, would let your pre-submit code run. It's very complicated and difficult to explain but here's a thread to which I posted a similar solution (with a sample file) which uses this approach to import XML data into a form and display a summarized output in a table:
Grouping and Summation. See post #5 in that thread.
Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Temporarily disable snap/smart guides

I saw that there was an old post on this with an elaborate workaround, but I'm hoping there's something new in CS5.
Is there a button that you can hold that will temporarily disable the snap to and smart guide features so that you can move an object freely? What I'm looking for is the same function as holding the ctrl key while working in InDesign. It seems like it would be really useful to be able to do that and I feel like I'm missing something obvious, so sorry if this is a silly question.

Can someone please point me to WHERE in the AI CS5 help this is actually documented? I've spent the last 15 minutes scoring the hotkeys, and the "Selecting and arranging objects" portions of the help file and no dice. Is Adobe really just counting on the community to do its dirty work of documenting their software properly. This isn't an MMO folks, where it's "part of the game" to figure out how stuff is done. spend more time on your docs.
Note: I'm not saying it ain't there - I'm saying if it is, it ain't logical or cross-referenced. And god forbid one should try to use your Search feature!

  • Temporarily disable Assert's

    Hey,
I'm looking to disable the "Assert" dialog boxes that InDesign throws up in debug mode (as a temporary measure, there's too many of them appearing in the plugin that I'm debugging)...
I've tried adding the following line to my Debug Settings.xml:
In a similar fashion to how IntenseDebugging is disabled, but this just throws up an Assert dialog on startup saying:
"Ignored the unrecognised element named BreakOnAssert"
I've also tried adding "#undef ASSERT_ON" to the VCSettings.h, but this has had no effect. I would assume this is because the Assert's are being thrown internally by InDesign.
Does somebody know how to disable these dialogs from appearing? I would be happy if I could just sink the errors to a log file, but I can't find a setting for this...
Any help will be much appreciated.

  • Essbase Error 1013009 - Administrator Has Temporarily Disabled User Command

    Hi guys,
I'm trying to load an outline from one server to another server. But during the restructuring process, I encountered the error "Essbase Error 1013009 - Administrator Has Temporarily Disabled User Commands". What does this error mean?
How can I possibly resolve this error? I'm also researching on this error right now.
    Your reply is greatly appreciated.
By the way I'm using Essbase 6.5
    Cheers!

So what do you see in the application log? Essbase.log?
Are other databases locked as well?
But during the restructuring process,^^^ I'm a little confused by this -- what restructure? If I copy a .otl file from server A to server B, Essbase has to save onto server B, but there isn't a restructure, I think, unless the act of saving forces that?

  • Temporarily disable cross-document links in PDF

I am working on a series of PDF files that have cross-document links to other PDF files embedded.  What I would like is to temporarily disable the links from opening the cross-document link until I am ready to activate the link and open that specific PDF.
I am familiar with the "Open cross-document links in same window" feature in the Preferences - General tab; however, this does not temporarily disable the links (only toggles how the PDF is opened - same window or new window).
Is there a setting in Reader to temporarily disable these links or possibly a keystroke combination (ctrl + __) ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

{Sigh)...I was hoping there was a way, but it looks like I am stuck with the links being always active.

  • Snow Leopard and Juniper Network Connect/How to temporarily disable Bonjour

    Hi All,
I have encountered a problem with Juniper Network Connect running on my MacBook Air. I can connect successfully to my company's VPN but on my MacBook Air Junipers Network Connect started to dis- and reconnect in changing time intervals.
After some googling I am pretty sure that it has something to do with the Bonjour service changing the routing tables. I wanted to confirm this and activated "Back to my mac" on my MacBook Pro which up to now did not had any problems connecting to my company's VPN. Now it has the same issues.
My question is whether there is any way to temporarily disable Bonjour, ideally via Apple script. Up to now the only solutions I found were to either
    - disable mDNSResponder which would also prevent accessing any websites or
    - disable multicast advertisements (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3789?viewlocale=en_US)
The latter approach includes editing a properties file and restarting the mac, thus would be less than ideal for just quickly dis- and enabling bonjour. Furthermore I am not quite sure whether this really solves the problem of updating the routing table.
    Any advise is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    equinox

If you are using an Airport or Airport Express base station: go to Utilities>Airport Utility. When it's found the Airport, click on 'Manual Setup'. In the next pane, click on the 'Wireless' tab; when that pane opens click on 'Wireless Network Options...'. Check 'Create a closed network'.
If you are using another manufacturer's wireless router you will need to look at their instructions, but the principle is the same - it may say something like 'Hide SSD'.

I can't download any music from sites other than itunes, a player opens and streams the song instead.
That is a setting in your browser that tells it what to do with an MP3 file.  For example, if you are using Firefox, go to Options > Applications.  For "MP3 Format Sound," change it from QuickTime to "Always Ask."
    Other browsers have similar settings.

  • Temporarily disable caching

    Hello,
I would like to be able to update an application to a newer version without any interruption of service by sequentially updating every machine in the cluster while the others are running.
There will be in consequence a small period of time during the update in which different application versions will be running on different servers. Different domain object versions may clash inside the Coherence cache.
In order to tackle this problem I am considering temporarily reducing the size of our caches to 0 (i.e. temporarily "disabling" cache). When all the servers are updated to the newer version, cache would be reactivated.
My question is: how can I do that at runtime, without changing configuration files and restarting Coherence, using just the Coherence console?
Otherwise, anybody has any experience to share on hot updating with distributed cache ?
    I am using Coherence 3.0.
    Thank you,
    Adrian Dimulescu

    Adrian,
First, I'd like to underscore that the Coherence command line console is a tool for developers, not the operational people. It requires deep understanding of your caching layer topology and a small mistake or typo can result in an application failure. Majority of commercial deployments I've seen contain a dedicated application control and management tier developed by application developers for operational use at deployment time.
Secondly, I don't know whether or not your application uses a read-through caching approach or a read-aside, but in either case let's assume that immediately after you clear the cache a user thread checks the cache for some data and immediately turns around and puts new data into the cache. You would end up with an "old" version of data, which is what you want to avoid. To prevent this from happening you need to have some synchronization logic or flags that indicate the fact the application is currently in transition. That could only be a part of application logic I was talking about.
All said, I may not see all the complexity around your specific upgrade process, so the decision is yours to make...

    Gene

  • Temporarily disable DDE

I have been trying for some time to find a way to temporarily disable DDE in the current instance of Excel only and not save the setting to the registry but have yet to find anything.
The reason for this is because of the following.  I use Excel Automation (CreateObject or New Excel.Application) to open a custom workbook in a new copy of Excel & use it to do some work.  While it is open, I do not want users to
be able to open other Excel Files in my Instance.  I want Windows to open a separate copy of Excel for the manually opened files.  That way when I close my instance of Excel, I am not closing their files, and they will not be able to see my Excel
workbook.  Also, that means I will be less likely to be leaving a copy of Excel running because I can't tell if they have opened files in my instance, or they were automatically opened by Excel for whatever reason.
What I do not want to do is to permanently disable DDE and cause Excel to stop loading documents or have Excel open every document in a separate instance.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

You haven't given much details about your automation and you've only just said you had already tried IgnoreRemoteRequests, so it's hard to guess quite what you are doing and why it's not working.
If your instance is retained not visible it normally it should be be straightforward for you to set IgnoreRemoteRequests when you start the instance and reset when you close it. In the meantime from the user's perspective s/he can open and close files
from file or Excel's UI in the normal way and in subsequent opened instances IgnoreRemoteRequests will remain false.
However if you expose your instance to the user you will need to trap if/when the user manually closes it and clear IgnoreRemoteRequests. That might be in the close event of your own workbook or trapping application events in your app elsewhere. However
if you expose your instance to the user there's no reason to need change IgnoreRemoteRequests(?)
