File Export, file size huge, burn to disc?

I am new at this and confused.
I created an Album in IPhoto which contains all 4,749 of my pictures. In the Info box at bottom left in IPhoto, its size is 8.4GB.
I exported this album to a folder on my Desktop using File>Export & choosing JPEG maximum quality, full size & include titles & keywords. When I check Get Info for that folder, its size is 22.62GB. That's nearly 4 times bigger. Can that be right?
I want to copy the folder on my Desktop to a CD or DVD . So if I have a DVD that says it can hold 4.7GB, I'm going to need 5 discs to copy the whole folder--?
I have Time Machine backing up my IMac but I wanted a copy of my pictures with their titles to be able to load on a Windows machine. Am I on the right path here?
Thanks so much!

Sorry to be so fragmented in my responses but I just started to try re-exporting using Original and when I choose KIND: Original, I am no longer offered the option of including Titles and Keywords.
One of my goals is to make a backup version of my pictures which are not tied to the IPhoto software--just in case someday I would need to load them into non Apple-friendly software--basically to have a copy of them in their original format, like they are on the memory cards they were taken with. I see that I can accomplish that by choosing KIND: Original.
However, I also want to be able to preserve all the titles I have given them. I had understood from an earlier post (probably from you) that most photo software would have the capacity of displaying the title files. Is there any combination of choices in the Export menu I can use to produce a copy of my pictures with quality as good as they were originally and keep my titles? I have done very little editing of my pictures so preserving changes is not an issue.
Many many thanks for sharing your expertise.

  • Exporting to camera from burned iDVD Disc imported to iMovie

I edited home movies with iMovie HD and created a DVD with IDVD5. I forgot to export the footage back onto my miniDV tape as a backup. So I took the burned DVD and put it in a DVD player connected to a converter box and imported the footage into iMovie. When I went to export from iMovie to my camera, it says the footage is copyright protected!
Does iLife5 automatically copyright protect the footage. Am I able to bypass this at all?

    Hi David,
we have this topic very often in the forum, search for "DVD" …
    in short:
get for 20$ the Apple mpeg2 plugin
and for free the tool Streamclip
Streamclip converts DVDs into a format, iM can handle....
best practise would be to convert the VHS direct into .dv… maybe, your friend can do so, playing the resulting BIIIIG files onto an external, Mac formatted firewire hardrive...?

    =================================
    PURPOSE
이 자료는 export시 2GB이상의 export dump file을 만들지 못하는 제약사항에 대하여 여러 export file로 나누어 받는 방법을 설명한다.
    Explanation
    Export command:
    echo|exp file=>(split -b 1024m - expdmp-) userid=scott/tiger tables=X
    사용예> echo|exp file=>(split -b 1024m - expdmp-) userid=scott/tiger log=scott.log
위와 같이 split하여 export를 받을 경우 file name은 expdmp-aa, expdmp-ab...expdmp-az, expdmp-ba... 으로 생성된다.
    Import command:
    echo|imp file=<(cat expdmp-*) userid=scott/tiger tables=X
    사용예>echo|imp file=<(cat expdmp-*) userid=scott/tiger ignore=y commit=y
    split와 compress를 같이 사용해도 가능하다.
    Export command:
    echo|exp file=>(compress|split -b 1024m - expdmp-) userid=scott/tiger tables=X
    Import command:
    echo|imp file=<(cat expdmp-*|uncompress) userid=scott/tiger tables=X

    달라질 수 있다.
이 외에도 split command를 사용하지 않고 unix pipe와 compress를 사용하여
3-step의 작업으로 export file size limit의 회피를 위한 방법도 가능하다.
    Export command:
    1) Make the pipe

  • IPhoto '11- super drive failed.  It won't burn to disc.

iPhoto '11 won't burn to disc...says super drive failed.  It goes through preparing to burn and then, immediately shows "finished" and spits out the disc.  I had just finished burning another successfully.  I talked with apple and we repaired permissions for iPhoto.  It worked fine during the test, but didn't after that.
    Thanks for any help.
    Sheila

Yes.  Successfully burned to a disc.  Not only is it doing that from the top tool bar menu, but the information it shows at the bottom of the screen (MG for the burn and how full the disc is) is not accurate.  The iPhoto info shows 3.7 MG for the pictures selected, but the burn info at the bottom shows some other amount and says not enough space on the disc.  And I'm using a 4.7MG DVD!  So, now, I'm just making a burn file on my desktop and burning the disc from there.  It works fine.  However, I'd still like my iPhoto program to be working the way it's supposed to, so I can use it that way.

  • SSRS report Excel Export file size is huge

    Hello everyone,
I am facing an issue with SSRS report exporting  to Excel.
Issue : Exported file size is too big.
I have a matrix report ( parametrized report ) it fetches data from multiple table.
    initially when
    1) I select all parameters all values
    2) load the report after that
    3) exporting to excel
so exported file size was about 10 Mb to 12MB
Now, suddenly from this month exported file size is too big around 62 MB for same data,
I checked on different forums and tried the solutions but it didn't worked,
can anyone please suggest me on this.
    My environment is
    Visual studio (BIDS) 2008
    SQL Server 2008 R2
    Excel 2007
    Thanks

    Hi UdayKGR,
According to your description, when you export a report into an excel file, the exported file size is too huge. Now you want to reduce the file size. Right?
In this scenario, do you export the report into excel 2003 file? When reports are first exported and saved to Excel 2003, they do not benefit from the file optimization that Excel automatically applies to its *.xls workbook files. The larger file size can
cause problems for e-mail subscriptions and attachments. To reduce the size of the *.xls files for exported reports, open the *.xls files and then resave the workbooks. Resaving the workbooks typically reduces their file sizes by 40 to 50 percent. Also please
try to install the Reporting Services 2008 R2 Service Pack 2 and reduce the merged columns in exported excel file. For more information, please see the links below:

  • FCPX DVD export to Compressor: error burning disc; video file incompatible for DVD creation

I've been working on a project for months now (feature film) in Final Cut Pro X. Therefor I have done about 20 exports already from within FCPX to Compressor for DVD. Did the same process last night as always.
From within project timeline I go to SHARE -> DVD -> setup a basic menu then select USING COMPRESSOR
Compressor opens. I click submit and after the progress indicator fills up way too fast, I get this error:
"there was an error burning your disc the video file is incompatible for DVD creation"
DVD spits out and that's it. Compressor and FCPX are both still running and haven't crashed but I'm confused. I have burned since the recent 10.0.3 upgrades (and whichever upgrade just came out for Compressor as well) so I can't imagine it's the upgrade.
    Any ideas?
I tried making a duplicate of the project and renaming and exporting and had the same results.
At this moment I am trying to export to DVD directly from FCPX with default settings and it has bee "processing" with no movemtn on the progress bar for an hour (it's a 2 hour video so this may not be abnormal).

  • Disc image file exported from Encore CS4 won't work

    Hello,
I have a problem concerning the export of a disc image file in Encore CS4. I recently upgraded to CS4 and wanted to continue my project which I started editing with CS3. While working with CS3 I already did image files from this project for burning and testing the DVD. Back then it worked with no problems.
However, since using the CS4 version Encore does the image without any problem, but I can't use the image file in any way afterwards. I mounted it with Daemon Tools as I did before, but the DVD won't play in any software DVD player I have installed (Media Player Classic, Windows Media Player, Nero Showtime) nor can I access the file structure over a file manager. Nevertheless NeroInfoTool and ImgBurn say there is a DVD in the virtual drive. Then I exported the DVD project into a folder and now I can see the files in the file manger but again no player will play it.
Has anyone experienced this before and is able to help? It would be very appreciated since I don't want to downgrade back to CS3 :-)
It's Encore CS4, Version 4.0.1.048 on a 2,8 GHz HT CPU, 2 GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 6800 UT, lots of HDD space, XP + SP3.
    Thank you,
    Chris...

    Hey,
thank you both. As I said no player accepts the project exported to a folder. It doesn't matter if I point the player to the video_ts.ifo or just the folder - it won't play. As a consequence I re-installed Encore CS3 in which exporting worked fine and guess what - the exported image and folder output doesn't work either. Since it worked before in CS3 it comes down to the conclusion that either I did some editing to the project that screwed the project or Encore CS4 did. Checking for mistakes in the project and previewing in inside CS4 everything seems fine. So might it be CS4 that ****** up the project file??? I mean it's full of strange bugs so it could easily be that. I even updated my Daemon Tools yesterday and it won't make a difference.
Or could it be something else I haven't considered yet? Any ideas? I just don't want to build the whole project again which might not even work if it's some other error. This is a desperate call for help
    Thanks,
    Chris...

  • Burning Keynote .PPT exported file to CD for Windows PPT user.

I created a Keynote presentation using KN 2.0.2 and exported it as a .ppt file. Worked great. I want to burn the .ppt file to a CD to give to a Windows PPT user to view. I burned the KN .ppt file to a CDRW disk using Finder. However, the Windows user couldn't view the KN .ppt exported file, error message read, "PPT does not have a recognizable file system". Should I have used a CD-R disk instead of a CDRW disk? Can you burn a KN .ppt exported file straigth to a CD using just Finder or do I need to use Toast, etc.?
    Thanks
    G5 Dual 2.0Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   2.5GB RAM

    LK,
maybe it's a problem with the name of the .mov. Check if it contains spaces. Spaces in file names often cause problems.
Also, try creating an ISO9660 CD. Choose the advanced tab in Toast 6 where you'll find the option. Toast should automatically enable Joliet extension which is used on Windows for long file names.
Then, instead of burning choose "File/Save As Disc Image…" and mount the disc image (Utilities/Mount Disc Image…). You can then check the content. The content should be shown as it will be seen on Windows.
If the Windows folks happen to have a CD burning program available, you could also send the ISO9660 disc image (to avoid spending too much CD-Rs for your tries (Or use a CD-RW instead).

  • File size of .swf files exported from Indesign CS5

I have made a basic file (728 x 90 px) in Indesign, which is the size of banner ads we produce. I have not put on any effect or animation yet. When I export it as a swf file, the file size is 139kb. This is way too large for any banner advertising on websites where the highest is normally 100px and the smallest is 30kb.
I have tried exporting at a lower resolution, but it has no effect on the file size, rendering this useless as a flash export option for me.
Is there something I'm missing or is Indesign just not the right tool for flash banner ads.
    Thanks

    Mr Met
    {swf file that's 13MB. What are your images, 200MB each?}
As I said, I resampled the images to be 500px wide so each PShop image is about 1.4mb (single layer). There are 12 images used.
Here it is if you care to see i t- 11mb so it will take time to load

No doubt you are a 100% right here.
But I think it is a bit disingenious to blame the InDesign user for the feature. It would be like Abobe putting Drop Shadows and transparences into ID and then saying you should use PhotoShop to for that feature!

  • How do I burn a disc image (img file) to dvd?

I created a disc image from iDVD, but my disc drive on my home computer is broken. With a flash drive, I copied the img file onto my work computer & burned the file to disc. However, while the file copied, the disc doesn't play as normal dvd. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

Though the replies above were very helpful and most likely would have worked, my work computer doesn't allow access to Disc Utilities. However, I bugged my IT guy and he showed me another way, using the Burn Application. I just needed to use the correct setting, as was mentioned above, I was burning data & not DVD. I'm sorry I don't have it in front of me, but I think I had to click the DVD tab & then select DVD/Video from the drop-down menu. One quirky element: I wasn't able to drag/drop the img file into Burn. I needed to drop the contents of the img file (the VIDEO_TS folder). Then it worked fine.

  • File export size problem (PNG,JPG ....) - CS5

I am using trial of Adobe Illustrator CS5.
When ever I export file (RGB) to PNG or JPG format, there is size difference of 1px in width or hight or both.
But when I save that file with Save for Web & Devices option, then there is no such issue.
I have tested with so many files.
I didn't faced such problem with Illustrator 4.

I have looked all the option .... alignment, pixel grid , not frictional value ..... But still 1px difference.
Now I have switched back to CS 4. For while till problem not solved.
But there is issue. One more thing I am using Windows 7.

  • File sizes when burning in different formats

Like many people, most songs in my playlists are MP3s/MPEG.
If I want to burn 20 songs as an Audio CD (to play in a car's CD player) and select same in Preferences>Advanced, I understand that the files will be uncompressed to something like AVI format.
My playlists show (at the bottom) file sizes of 50MB to 70MB. Obviously, the real size when uncompressed is something nearer 700MB. It means a bit of guesswork as to how many songs I can burn on one CD.
Similarly, when burning Data CDs, the file size will be much reduced.
Is there a way I can ascertain the exact file size when burning in different formats?

+"It means a bit of guesswork as to how many songs I can burn on one CD."+
For audio CDs, there is no guesswork required. At the bottom of the playlist that you are about to burn, you will see the number of songs and the total time. If the time is under 80 minutes, the list will fit on a normal audio CD. If it is approximate, like "1.2 hours," click on it and it will change to exact hours, minutes, seconds.

  • Trying to reduce HUGE file without changing size

I have a 7.75MB (!) file. I am designing at full scale, wich is 90" x 90". Since I will later be using this file in a textile program and need to have it at full scale, I can't change it's dimensions. I have used live paint, layers, clipping masks, the works and that is part of the reason it is so big.
Does anyone know a way to completely flatten the file? I need to reduce it's size to a most 2MB. It is so big now, that I cannot even use the "save for web" feature.

    Hello, winthur dewey.
Expanding will most likely not reduce file size. Nevertheless, I will quickly explain how you flatten some or all of your art work.
    1. Both
    b Object>Expand
    and
    b Object>Expand Appearance
are taking your complex objects and divide them into smaller discrete objects. Select some or all of your objects and try one of these commands to expand it.
See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Illustrator/13.0/help.html?content=WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d010 0196cbc5f-62c4.html for a description about expanding (LiveDocs)
    2.
    b Object>Flatten Transparency
is taking transparent and semi-transparent objects and turn them into bitmap, and expand other relevant, selected objects. This is actaully also the command that takes care of expanding dashed lines (because of the transparent gap between the lines). Usin fnormal expand for this, will end up with a solid line.
See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Illustrator/13.0/WS21A6953D-2FD5-4e21-8C4D-3410A9A09FBC.html for a description on the Transparency Flattener Options (LiveDocs)
    3. Save as Illustrator version 8 is a quick and dirty way to remove traces of the Appearance panel and transparency, since this version didn't support those features.
See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Illustrator/13.0/help.html?content=WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d010 0196cbc5f-64a0.html for info about retaining transparency when saving (liveDocs)
Important!: When dealing with transparency and effects, there eventually will be expanded to bitmap, it is important to have an eye on the command
    b Effect>Document Raster Effects Settings.
This command will specify, what bitmap resolution your obejcts will be converted to, when expanding.
See http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Illustrator/13.0/help.html?content=WS714a382cdf7d304e7e07d010 0196cbc5f-62c4.html for info about raster effects (liveDocs)
All these things will flatten, or expanding your artwork. In Illustrator this will not give you smaller file size, but rather more compatible file for use in Adobe Flash, QuarkXpress and so on.
If you need a complete bitmap image, you could try
    b File>Export
and select some of the bitmap formats (JPG, PSD, PNG or TIFF). But 80" X 80" - I'm almost sure that is not the way to go.
It is difficult for me to give you advice for optimization, when I do not have the document in front of me, but I hope you (one way, or the other) is getting it into the textile program :-)
    All the best
    /ockley

I have an hd movie on final cut pro x; i want to create an sd disk of that movie. compressor created 2 files: dolby.... and mpeg2. How do I get these files burned to disc to create my sd movie?

These are elementary streams and they would be used by DVD authoring apps that use them for reasons like foreign language capability. Examples would be DVD Studio Pro, Adobe Encore, Toast.
The most straightforward way to burn your DVD is either to use the Share feature in FCP or the Batch Template feature in Compressor.
If you can find a boxed copy of iLife (try Amazon), it should have iDVD as part of the suite of apps. iDVD offers far more complete authoring capability than FCP or C4. iDVD  doesn't work with elementary streams; you'd just drag in your HD movie and you'd be good to go.
    Good lluck.

  • LARGER Exported File sizes

I recently upgraded to LR V2 (also use PS CS3)
For some reason my exported file sizes have increased immensely
Typically I would convert from RAW to TIFF with the following settings:
    11" x 17" print size
    compression: none
    Adobe RGB1998
    16 bit
    resolution 300 DPI
These files would convert at about 90MB (manageable on my system)
They are now converting at a whopping 400MB (aging system can't handle this!)
Is this the new LR V2 standard, is there some setting I need to change?
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Rich

No, you must be doing something wrong there. 300 ppi (NOT DPI!) at 11x17 and 16 bits uncompressed should be 90MB as you can calculate with simple math. If you enable compression (highly recommended for tiffs - it's lossless compression) you should be able to cut that in half.
