File saves as a tiff even though it is originally a psd

I wonder if any of you can help? I'm working on psd's in Photoshop CS4. When I hit save it then saves it into a Tiff, instead of a .psd. The original files are taken from RAW image files in lightroom 2.2. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Which format are you choosing in the dropdown menu in the Save or Save As dialog box? If you want a PSD you choose Photoshop there.
By default, the Save and Save As dialog box open in whatever format you chose there the previous time. Just change it to Photoshop (psd). Click on the tiny triangles at the end of that button to make the dropdown menu appear.

Sounds to me like the file is probably corrupt. If you had hard drive corruption or damage, that could easily result in recovered files not being fully intact. If you were trying to recover accidentally deleted files, it's possible they might have been partially overwritten before recovering. There are never any guarantees with file recovery.
Without more information on the circumstances that led you to try recovery, it's hard to give advice on what to try from here. You could always try another file recovery tool, like Data Rescue 3. Just be sure you're taking appropriate precautions when doing recovery. See Recovering deleted files.

Using the "original" setting is the correct way to do it. Select on of the photos and use the File ➙ Reveal in Finder ➙ Original menu option. That will take you to the file inside the library via the Finder. Confirm that what you see if the raw file.
If it is then try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.

3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

Could you please give an example with specifics.
Right click the original and select Get Info. Size is the second line under General.
Do the same for the file after it is moved to the folder.

Why does Bridge open raw files (ndg) in Raw window even though the 'Open in Photoshop' option is...

I don't understand why in Bridge there are 2 choices, -1- Open raw and -2- Open in Photoshop and yet both choices give you the same result--The raw window opens with PS below it. After having worked on my raw NEF files I save it to dng. My thinking behind this, is that I alreay have done what was needed and would now like to start working on it within Photoshop. It seems that the only way to automatically open it directly within PS is if I save it as a tiff, psd or jpg. But since this is not what I want to do then why must I add extra steps as opposed to just opening it hwere I want. I mean the 2 choices are there, so why not do what it is being asked?

If I may step in in this discussion, I always use DNG but never have used ACR to achieve this result.
As Curt stated the changes made in ACR to a Raw file (or for that matter a DNG file) are undoable without problems.
My workflow (using Canon CR2 but that is not important, let's say a dSLR generated Raw File) is to use Photodownloader in Bridge (not perfect by far but still the best and easiest way for me).
I connect my CF card using a card reader and let Adobe Photodownloader do the work.
Inhere I use several options:
- convert the CR2 file to a DNG
- back up the original CR2 on a separate disk
- rename the DNG to yyyymmdd (shot date) and sequence number
- add a metadata template for copyright to all the DNG files.
Sorting out the keepers I open the DNG in ACR and either hit Open (for open directly in PS) or use save as Tiff or PSD depending on next step in development or simply hit Done to apply changes and leave it for later use.
The advantage of having both ACR in PS and Bridge is huge. The only difference between both is that by default PS has the Open Button selected and Bridge (open in Camera Raw) has the Done button selected, thats all.
But here is the good part, you can use both simultaneously! For example have PS in film strip mode with multiple files selected and when changes are ready hit Save as start the process but locks up PS itself. Switch to Bridge and use Open in Camera Raw and start with the next job while ACR PS is still running in the background
When I open a DNG in PS using ACR in either PS or Bridge I continue developing with actions and fine tune with layer mask, brush etc etc.
Sometimes use Save As for PSD with the layers still active (huge files) when needing to revisit or not quite ready. But mostly I use an action to flatten the files and save as PSD.
Both DNG and PSD are ending up in my archive, my clients receive whet they want, PSD, Tiff but mostly jpeg and resized.
When having the job finished and every once in a while I clear out the original CR2 files from Back up because in all the years I use DNG (at least 5 years) I never had to use the original CR2 instead of the DNG that is thoroughly backed up as is the original PSD.
But since disk space is cheap you can choose to keep them.
An other option is to include the original raw file in the DNG but I would not recommend that because the file size is getting almost twice as big.
The biggest plus side for me using DNG is that the xmp data is written directly to the file while original CR2 or NEF needs an xmp side car file next to it with this data.
However saving changes to metadata is taking a bit longer to a DNG then to an XMP side car file, depending on system resources and time this never been a real problem for me

Shared folder files open as read only even though they are set up as read write

Hello, I've recently purchased a iMac to work alongside my mac book pro. Primarily, i want this for ease of use at home and as a 'back up' to my pro should anything happen.
I have a number of folders and files on my pro that I wish to access on the iMac and have set up shared folders to enable this with a new profile and read/write permissions. This all works fine until I open the document, make changes then find that I have to save as a different name as the files open as 'read only'?
Is there anything I've missed? I would of expected 'read/write' permissions to enable me to save files as edited?
Any help appreciated otherwise, I'll have to resort to copying files between machines which would be a major dissapointment!

Found the solution...basically the permissions are not automatically cascaded down to sub folders and files so you have to do the following... modified from https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2743520?start=0&tstart=0
On the folder that you would like to change, select the Get Info and then click on the cogwheel at the bottom of the Get Info dialog.
Click on the menu pick "Apply to enclosed items ..." and confirm the warning message.
Then the same read & write permissions are applied to all the subfolders of the selected folder.

In my finder window, there is an old file that is stuck there even though it isn't on my computer anymore - how do I get it off?

The screenshot attached shows the file question mark labeled "mindwine (winter)" - how do I remove it? It isn't even on my computer anymore.

It says "item can't be found" and doesn't give any option to move anything to the trash...

CS5 file printing at 50% opacity, even though all layers are at 100% opacity! HELP

I'm having some SERIOUS issues with InDesign at the moment. I'm quite well versed with the program, and have never encountered this issue before - I am at a loss at what to do or how to fix it.
I've been designing a magazine layout for a University assignment - the file/template was downloaded from the Uni website, and had 1 existing layer which we could not alter. I've then added a number of other layers of images, text, shapes etc. Some which have various drop shadows and effects on top.
When I went to test print the layout, I noticed that it was though it had been set at 50% opacity - everything was see through and I could see multiple layers of colours. I thought that I had perhaps accidentally mucked with the settings, but after double checking, I was baffled. Originally I had exported it as a high quality PDF file, so I then tried printing it as a CS5 file straight from my mac - I got the same result. I've since tried both the PDF and .idml files on both mac and pc, but nothing seems to change.
The odd thing is, on my screen, both PDF and .idml files are at 100% opacity and vibrant blocks of colour - I am quite confident that the settings on the layers are all at 100%, but I still cannot seem to fix it.
Some advice or answers would be extremely valuable! I have the chance to resubmit, so I'd like to know how to fix it, if possible!

Screen saver keeps turning on even though I have it set to Never

In System Preferences > Desktop & Screen Saver > Screen Saver, I have "Start screen saver" set to Never. However, my screen saver seems to keep turning on after around 15 minutes! I think this only started happening when I upgraded to 10.4.3. Does anyone know why this happens?

No, the actual screen saver comes on (flurry). I do have the energy preference set to turn the screen off after 30 minutes. This works properly. The screen saver comes on after about 15 minutes, then the screen goes black after about 30 minutes. I have the screen saver set to Never come on though.

In iphoto while using the slideshow and adding music the itunes library can be picked but none of the music files show up to choose even though the itunes library has pleanty of music in it

in iphoto slide show when itunes music is selscted it doesn't show any music files available within the drop down menu, how do i get the itune music pfiles into that program (iphoto)

Unable to see the downloaded files in the downloaded folder even though the files are present.

I am able to download the files and the downloaded files are shown in the downloads section too. However, when I go to the "open containing folder" it is not present there:( I cant seem to find the files at all.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

If "Open" and "Open Containing Folder" in the right-click context menu in the Download Manager window are grayed then that means that the file is no longer in the original download location and they may have been removed by Anti-virus or cleanup software.

WAR file is not getting extracted even though server.xml is configured

I'm using tomcat 4.1...
I created the rmitunneler.war file which contains one servlet and configured the server.xml as the following:

I also put the war file in /opt/uas/rmitunneler and restarted tomcat, but the war file didn't get extracted. I tried to put the war file one directory above (/opt/uas) - but again with no success.
What could be wrong?

From the Tomcat document :
"The Document Base (also known as the Context Root) directory for this web application, or the pathname to the web application archive file (if this web application is being executed directly from the WAR file). You may specify an absolute pathname for this directory or WAR file, or a pathname that is relative to the appBase directory of the owning Host."
I believe you need to put the file name in the docBase:
docBase="/opt/uas/rimtunneler.war"

If you want to read pdf files in adobe. You need to add adf files to adobe directly. For this you need to connect your device and go to apps section. In that section select adobe then right side you will get a window. In that window you can add pdf files.

Getting popup message to save data in VA02, even though no changes are made

Hi Gurus,
When I enter into any sales order in change mode (VA02) and press back button without changing anything, I am getting a pop up message saying 'Do you wish to save your data first?'. I deactivated all the enhancements which were modifying the standard structures in MV45AFZZ program, still getting the pop up message. Any idea why?

As Ken mentioned before, something is getting refreshed/updated in the system.
Check any other user exit is updating/refreshing any data in the sales order. You can have a look at program MV45AFZA -USEREXIT_REFRESH_DOCUMENT. Other program that you can check is MV45AFZB.
As mentioned by others and your findings it is SAP standard message.

Indesign makes file bigger as a PDF even though set at a smaller size in Document Setup

When I export my file (which is set to 132mm x 198mm in Document Setup) to PDF, the PDF file is much bigger. In the information panel about the page in Indesign, it says the page is the size I specified it to be, but that the 'media' is 210 x 250 (or something like that). This is the size it comes out as as a PDF. I need the PDF to be 132 x 198 - how can I do this?
