File to be put on ASM

Dear All,
db version:10.2.0.3
o/s:redhat linux4
In my production instance all configuration files(datafiles, parameterfiles, logfile, controlfiles) are on SAN filesystem .I want to migrate them to ASM hoping that i will get performance gains.i have some doubts.
1)i want to keep 2 copies of logfiles, controlfiles and archive files if i use failure groups it doesnt makes any sense coz in last underline storage is comming from san.i would like to put 1 copy in asm and 1 copy in local hardrive is it possible and no performance issues will happen?
Regards

Hi,
You can put DATAFILE, CONTROLFILE,REDO and SPFILE in ASM DISKGROUP. If you setup Flash Recovery Area (FRA) to Filesystem during database creation, REDO,CONTROLFILE are automatically multiplexed in FRA and ARCHIVELOG is generate in FRA. (i.e Filesystem).
Also you can manually multiplex REDO and Controlfile and setup Archivelog Location to Filesystem and Disksgroup as you wish.
P.S REDO is always multiplexed in Main Location and FRA during creation of REDO.
The performance will depend on your hardware, if you are using the same array for both (diskgroup and filesystem) I believe it will not have performance problems.
But you must analyze performance issues and bottlenecks during the operation of your environment.
Hope this helps,

Since I have the newest version of itunes, I can't back up like normally. The only way is to considilate files and then put them on an external drive which I don't have. Are there any other options? If I can't back up to a disc like I used to, can I instead just keep everything on my ipod and then if I have to get a new computer or something just download all my songs from the ipod to my new computer's itunes? Will that work? Will I still be able to keep all my songs that way?

I'm going to assume the consolidating files does not work due to hard drive space limitations.
Since you're moving to Windows 7, have you tried using the Windows files and settings transfer utility?  That will move everything for you to the same location on the new computer, it also allows some control over what actually gets moved.
Alternatively, if you know the location of all of the media, it can be manually moved by copying it from the old computer to the new computer in the same location.
Also, using the Apple article on moving the library, take a slight twist on what it says.  Move the iTunes library to the external drive, update the settings in iTunes to reflect the library being on the external drive, then consolodate it.
The options are endless for moving the library... it simply takes a little effort to make it happen and possibly a twist on existing "standard" methods depending on your unique situation.

i have some stuff i want to put on external hard drive when i drag the file or files it just puts them back

Did you format the external disk on Windows? If you did this, probably the external disk is formatted in NTFS. OS X can't write on this format, so it's normal that it doesn't allow you to copy the files.
In this case, you have three possibilities:
    1. Install Paragon NTFS. This program allows you to write on NTFS partitions.
    2. Copy the hard drive content to your internal disk and format the external disk with Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Do it only if you are going to use the external disk only with OS X.
    3. The same as the last one but formatting it with exFAT. This filesystem is compatible with Windows (XP, Vista, 7, 8) and OS X (10.6.5 and newer), so you can write and read files on external disks formatted with it on Windows and OS X, but you may have problems on Linux

  • Is database using File system, RAW devices or ASM?

    Hi there
Is is possible to find out if the database is using File system, RAW devices or ASM for storage?
I think for ASM, we can tell by querying the V$DATAFILE view if it has ' DATA ' or something like that (a name that has ' ' prefixed to it). Is this the only way? How about other sotrage types (RAW and Filesystem)?
    Thanks in advance!

Raw depends on your OS - in *nix, likely something like /dev/sdc1
ASM depends on ASM and will include + and will follow an ASM pattern, such as described http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14200/clauses004.htm
File depends on OS - in *nix, likely start with a '/' and NOT be in /dev or /proc.  In Winders start with C:\ or some other disk path.
Nicely discussed in the docs in the Administrators Guide found at http://tahiti.oracle.com

  • I can't get CS6 to recognize R3D files. I put the plugin and the server files in the proper spot and I used 64 not 32 like it said. I still can't get it to work

The only thing to do to get the R3D files working is download a plugin pack with 2 files in it. one goes in your plugin folder the other in some other folder. I found both original files and replaced them with the new ones. I have rebooted twice... nothing. it won't recognize R3D files. The Camera is a Red brand Epic Dragon and it puts our R3D files. R3D's are easily manipulated in Redcine, but I can't add my .mov files on it so I need to be able to work with these files in PP.

    I'm sad now
Good thing I have a PC with 32-bit windows!
Now, I can only assume apple is working on a 64-bit
fix? I suppose that info/ETA is on the itunes page,
    I'll go take a look.
Who knows what Apple plans are? I do know that they do not discuss upcoming releases of anything until its available.

  • How do I access files that I put in iCloud Drive on my iMac and MacBook Pro, and then access them with ANY iOS device?

For example, I put some .pdf documents into iCloud Drive. Now I need those files but I'm not home any more----I have an iPhone and iPad at my disposal. They are ALL signed into the same iCloud account and they are all on the same WiFi network. Those .pdf documents that I so easily dropped into iCloud Drive earlier appear to be non-existant on my iOS devices. I do see my "Pages" memos here in iCloud, but the other things I have put in, I can't find. The ONLY way so far that I have been able to locate them is to go back to my iMac or MBP and use a Finder window and i have direct access to iCloud Drive there. Are they purposely not allowing us to pick up all files on all devices? Or am I missing something? Thanks.

First, to access documents you must use an app designed for that specific Document type. So Pages will not be able to open PDFs. The Documents app by Readdle can handle PDFs though. In the latter case, you'd open the app, click the menu icon at its top left, and click Open to go to your iCloud Drive. With Pages, if you had files outside the main Pages folder, click + then iCloud and navigate to the file's location.

  • File need to put at SAP R/3 server

    Hi,
I am picking xml file from FTP through sender chennel and want to put that xml file in to SAP R/3 server some location /home/transpert/din/xyz using receiver file adapter NFS. Here I am not using mapping part.
I have problem that file is not going to SAP R/3 server but going to XI server.
    Could you please help me.
    Thank u so much !

    Hi,
just check the host name in the comm. channel
try to check your FTP connection parameters, login details.
try to login directly using FTP:// server details from your browser first.
this Error when getting an FTP connection from connection pool - this means that  XI server was not able to communicate with FTP server... contact your FTP server network people  to open the firewall settings of FTP server for XI server
After this, XI server might  communicate with your FTP server and error will be resolved.
This kind of  error occurs if you are giving wrong authentication details for FTP connection. Please make sure that your details are correct.

  • Export CLOB field (long= 4202083) to a file with UTL_FILE.PUT or PUT_LINE

    Hello,
I'm trying to export a CLOB field to a txt file. It's a xml string in the CLOB. I have used different methods but the only which i can use is PUT, PUT_LINE.
    But:
    - PUT does only export the 32565 characters. I see that the output of l_pos is 4202084 but these are not exported. I have tried FFLUSH, but this gives a error or my syntax is not correct.
    - PUT_LINE is exporting the complete CLOB, but after every 32656 is new line is added and if I want to look with altove then I have to remove 129 times the new line. Thats not the way I want to go.
Is it an idea, if it is possible, that I write 32565 chars to the buffer (file), read these 32565 from the buffer minus one (=without \r\n), delete the last 32565 chars from buffer and append/put the chars 32565 minus the \r\n to the buffer again. I hope there will be a better idea but....
Has anybody an idea how I can solve this? Or what do I wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Unix shell: Environment variable works for file system but not for ASM path

We would like to switch from file system to ASM for data files of Oracle tablespaces. For the path of the data files, we have so far used environment variables, e.g.,
    CREATE TABLESPACE BMA DATAFILE '${ORACLE_DB_DATA}/bma.dbf' SIZE 2M AUTOEXTEND ON;
This works just fine (from shell scripts, PL/SQL packages, etc.) if ORACLE_DB_DATA denotes a file system path, such as "/home/oracle", but doesn’t work if the environment variable denotes an ASM path like "\+DATA/rac/datafile". I assume that it has something to do with "+" being a special character in the shell. However, escaping "\+" didn’t work. I tried with both bash and ksh.
Oracle managed files (e.g., set DB_CREATE_FILE_DEST to +DATA/rac/datafile) would be an option. However, this would require changing quite a few scripts and programs. Therefore, I am looking for a solution with the environment variable. Any suggestions?
The example below is on a RAC Attack system (http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/RAC_Attack_-OracleCluster_Database_at_Home). I get the same issues on Solaris/AIX/HP-UX on 11.2.0.3 also.
    Thanks,

My revised understanding is that it is not a shell issue with replacing +, but an Oracle problem. It appears that Oracle first checks whether the path starts with a "+" or not. If it does not (file system), it performs the normal environment variable resolution. If it does start with a "+" (ASM case), Oracle does not perform environment variable resolution. Escaping, such as "\+" instead of "+" doesn't work either.
To be more specific regarding my use case: I need the substitution to work from SQL*Plus scripts started with @script, PL/SQL packages with execute immediate, and optionally entered interactively in SQL*Plus.
    Thanks,
    Martin

    1. Go to Tools>Content Editing panel
    2. Click the "Edit Text & Images" button
    3.  Select the information that you would like to copy and draw a selection square.  It should group the information into a selection outlined in blue.
    4. Go to Edit>Copy
In the PDF file that you would like to paste information into:
    1. Go to Tools>Content Editing panel

    3.  Go to the page that you want to paste your information
    4.  Select the page

  • How do I find an audio file that I put on an iPod from a non-iTunes software?

I'm talking about on the iPod itself, not looking at the folders when it is connected to the computer.
I've put some audio files, podcasts and songs, that transfered from a non-iTunes podcast aggregator and songs that weren't in my iTunes library, but could not find them on the actual iPod device.  This, despite the files showing up on the device when looking at a list of files on computer screen once I connect to a computer.
Asked this a few times now, and never got an answer.  Does anyone know what I am doing wrong here?

    - Only iTunes purchases will copy from iPod to computer.
    - If you sync manually and do not specify those modified songs to sync they will not sync to the iPod nor will the original version be deleted from the iPod
    - If you sync automatically and include those songs or select the modified songs to sync manually, the songs in the iPod should be replaced with the modified songs. However sometimes that does not happen
