Filename Compatibility: Win XP Pro Illustrator CS2

Hi,
I'm having a problem when saving to web. I don't have spaces in my filename but when I save for web, my filename gets truncated to 30 characters. I go to my output settings and uncheck Mac & Unix to set the filename compatibilty to Windows only
Is there a way to set the DEFAULT to Mac & Unix unchecked because I don't want to be selecting a saved output setting everytime I save for web.
Regards
Norbert

Please click [HERE|http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116511] and you will see that it is an OEM version however cheaper than the links you proposed.
You right. OEM Installations will work as long as the user understands that the license (once activated) will only work on the first computer that it is installed and is not transferable. The link above is an example of this. These installations disks are bought directly and do not accompany any computers.
The other OEM version is the version that come with branded disks such as DELL and HP etc. This will not work and will almost always fail installation.
Then there is the FULL retail version where the license is transferabe from one computer to another as long as it is only used on one machine at a time.

  • T500 Win 7 pro 64-bit drivers - hard drive device driver filename?

    Hi,
I recently started an upgrade path with my T500.
I purchase a new 500GB western digital drive.
Now I need to gather all the win 7 pro 64-bit drivers for my T500.
I started the install of win 7 pro to see how far I could get, not far ... I am stuck currently searching for the proper device drive for my mass storage (which is NOT partitioned either - ideas on how to do that or should the win install program program give an option once I have the right driver(s)?)
Do you know what the proper T500 win 7 pro 64-bit driver is I need?  I have tried a few with no luck yet.
    Fun fun fun ...
    Thank you.

You shouldn't need any additional drivers to do an install of Win 7 on your T500.  You might add drivers later, but the Win 7 installer should get the initial install done without adding anything.  It certainly did on my T400.
You might try setting the BIOS AHCI setting back to SATA (or whatever the non-compatibility mode is called.)  That shouldn't be necessary either, but it's worth a shot.  For that matter, just do a reset of your BIOS and try from there.
BTW, once you have Windows installed, also install ThinkVantage System Update and use that to pull down the drivers and apps for your machine.

  • Lost toolbar (Typewriter) when reinstall acrobat pro 7 (CS2) under Win 7

    Hi There,
Recently, my computer has beed updated to Win 7 from Windows XP. When I reinstalled Acrobat pro 7 (CS2),  toolbar "typewriter" did not show up.
Please help to find out the way to fix it. Thank you very much.

I don't have AA 7 available anymore. It may be that you have a selection of tools that can be made, I don't remember. Without finding a machine with AA 7 on it, I can't help much more on that. As far as the printer, you have to install a PS printer (either from Adobe or maybe a color HP PS printer). Then change the name to Adobe PDF and the port to FILES. Then, when you print you will be saving to file. The file created must be opened in Distiller to create the PDF. I have tried this on both 332 and 64-bit versions of Win7. There may be other features that vary and I did not do extensive testing. Maybe one of your systems is 32-bit and the other 64-bit and that might cause the problem. Keep in mind that AA 7 is a 32-bit process. You also need to install the updates that are at ftp://ftp.adobe.com/pub/adobe/acrobat/. Apparently you were successful with the installation, though the activation server is no longer available for AA7 -- there is an alternative in that case, but you don't seem to need it.

  • Can't use my Adobe Illustrator CS2 with my new Mac Book Pro - is there any way to fix?

I recently purchased a MacBook Pro only to find out AFTER I made the purchase that I would not be able to use my Illustrator CS2! Do I really have to purchase a complete version of CS5 or is there another way around this? Does anyone know if OSX 10.7.2 will work with any upgrades to CS2?

There is no Rosetta support in Lion, and most likely there never will be. You will have to update to CS5.

  • WinXP and Vista memory usage with Illustrator CS2 - is Vista winning?

    Dear forum.
I have an AI-template file where I insert some very large PNG files into it, modifies the template a bit and then I print the the resulting document in PS-format. The PNG files may be as large as 100 MB (24-bits, approx. 100 mil. pixels in total). It appears that while a Vista-based machine has no problem loading one or even two copies of these huge files into memory, a WinXP-based machine can't even load a single file into memory. Instead, I a dialog box with the message: "Could not read the file because the plug-in could not understand this file". Is it really a faulty plug-in or is it just CS2's way of saying "not enough memory" in a quirky way?
All in all, I would like to hear whether someone has the same experience with Vista, ie. it seems to be better at memory management or better at allocating memory for Illustrator CS2, enabling it to load large PNG files.
The specifications of the WinXP-based machine:
    Pentium 4 2.6 GHz
    3 GB RAM
Virtual memory 4095 MB in a physically separate drive from the OS disk
All Visual Effects are turned off
Has Illustrator CS2, Adobe Acrobat 7 and Distiller installed (and a few auxilliary programs)
The specifications of the Vista-based machine:
    Dell OptiPlex 740SF
    AMD x2 5000 (2.6 GHHz)
    2 GB RAM (667 MHz, 2 x 1 GB)
    250 GB SATA disk
    Windows Vista
Adobe Creative Suite 2 Standard + Adobe Creative Suite 3
    Thanks!

    Hi, everyone
I got a new t440p 20ANA00UHH (8GB RAM, win8 64bits) about one week ago. It works really well, but its memory usage  confused me. In Task Manager, the "Performance" option shows memory is 68% (5.4G in use), but "Users" option shows memory usage 66% (1019.5M in use). Is that normal ? I just opened some websites and word files.

  • Illustrator CS2 crashes

I moved Illustrator CS2 oveer to my new WIN 7 machine with 8 GB of RAM. It has been evidently successfully installed and activated. However it gives an eror message on stratup "The operation cannot complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available". This appears when I have no other applications running. There is 8 GM of RAM on the machine. I have set it to run as an administrator, and clicked on the XP compatibility mode. neither of these changes made any difference. What should I do next? Is this my lack of knowledge about WIN 7 or a legacy app problem?

The 8 gigs memory means nothing to a 32 bit app, more or less.
Looking at the Windows 7 compatibility web site, I would say no, CS2 Illy is not compatible.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/Details.aspx?type=Software& p=Adobe%20CS2&v=Adobe&uid=&l=en&pf=0&pi=3&s=Adobe%20illustrator%20cs2&os=32-bit
I do know of a person using Win7 Professional that got it to run in a virtual XP Pro service pack 3 environment. And others might have other experience.
    Take care, Mike

  • Using 4TB WD drives on M58p in Win/7 Pro x64

After taking advantage of Cyber Monday deals in December, 2013 for Western Digital WD4001FAEX 4 TByte drives, I suddenly was faced with the "32-bit MBR" issue on systems with normal BIOS (not UEFI) like my 7630 and 7483 M58p Small Form Factor PC's.  My goal was to have a slightly less than 2 TByte C: drive with a D: drive partition around the same size starting BELOW "the 2 TByte line."  I read in the forums that this configuration was possible but NONE of these gave a HOW-To process.   I've successfully done this three times on a 7630-B81 and pair of 7483's (an AF2 and a W59) systems, all running licensed Win/7 Pro x64 operating systems.   I started out using the Recovery partition from the 7630-B81 cloned to each Western Digital drive with Acronis True Image Free WD Edition.  This created two partitions on each drive after performing a System Restore and applying genuine unique Microsoft Windows/7 Pro x64 product keys on each drive in each system.  There was a 9.77 GByte Recovery partition, and just under a 2 TByte C: drive.  The rest of the drive was "unallocated".   I applied all appropriate drivers for any new I/O and 170 or so Windows Updates including .NET Framework 4.51 code.  I downloaded XVI32 (free) for a hex editor and the free MBR Wizard Command Line version 2.0b to pull and restore the Master Boot Record (512 bytes).  I also installed the free version of EASUS Partition Master but this was only used to evaluate the number of available sectors in the "new" partition.
I started the Win/7 Pro DISKMGMT command and decided to shrink the C: drive by 256 MBytes to expose a section of the 4 TByte drive that was below the "2 TByte line."   I created a new volume in that 256 MByte partition using DISKMGMT in order to establish a valid entry in the MBR's Partition Table.   I then used the MBRWiz command with the /save= parameter and provided a filename after the equal sign in order to save the current MBR contents, call it C:\Original.bin file.   Here is the contents of the 4 Partition tables in that file:
    01BE     80 20 21 00 27 FE FF FF 00 08 00 00 00 80 38 01
    01CE     00 FE FF FF 07 FE FF FF 00 88 38 01 00 78 BF FE
    01DE     00 FE FF FF 06 FE FF FF 00 00 F8 FF 00 F8 07 00
    01EE     00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00
The 446 bytes before the address 1BE comprise the Boot program in the MBR.  The last two bytes are 55 AA after the 4th partition table entry (all zeros on this example.).
I took the last 4 bytes of the 3rd partition (Length Field) and modified them to "extend" the 256 MByte partition to nearly the end of the drive, editting with XVI32.   Here's the new 3rd Partition Table entry:
    01DE    00 FE FF FF  06 FE FF FF 00 00 F8 FF 00 A0 C8 D1
(When the partition is formatted for NTFS, the byte at 01E2 changes from x'06' to x'07' (NTFS)).
I then use MBRWiz with the /restore= parameter to load the modified MBR file to the target drive.  If you are doing this to Drive 1, use the /Disk=1 parameter on the MBRWiz command line.  With the new MBR online, I then restart Windows/7 Pro x64.   The new partition of 1718548 MBytes is ready for formatting.  I checked my work with a 4-hour format of the new partition and all of the drives I formatted worked just fine
The 4 TByte drive size apparently is the largest drive that this "trick" will work on with the 32-bit MBR.  This trick rely's on the "rule" that the last partition must START below "the 2 TByte line."  I was surprised the number of partitioning tools that I tried would NOT work to create this partition configuration declaring the space was above 2 TBytes.  Acronis True Image has a method to use the "unallocated" space, but it "creates" a Disk 1 out of that space and some applications like SpeedFan 4.49 will "crash" on that configuration.  SpeedFan 4.49 works just fine with the drive configuration created here.
Disclosure: I am NOT employed by any of the brands mentioned here, but am an IBM Retiree not in anyway affliated with them.

Unfortunately your only solution may be to upgrade all of the AA8 installations. Adobe does not support AA8 on Windows 7, though several have been successful on 32-bit systems. The 64-bit system has been a killer for AA8 from what I have seen. Maybe one person reporting success. You might see if it can run under a compatibility setting. It is also interesting to note that the list you posted only mentions AA8.1, not the 8.3.1 that you indicated at the beginning. That could possibly be the issue. Generally the early releases have not worked with 64-bit systems. If you install the updates (maybe from Help>Updates, or as a download from http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Windows) you will get the systems to run. Do expect potential problems if you continue to work with AA8, but you might be able to work it out. Good luck.

  • Illustrator CS2 crashes when Type Tool used

    Can anyone help please?
I'm running CS2 on Win XP Pro
When I click on a document to enter text the program hangs and then crashes.
I have also lost the font preview on the toolbar.
I've tried deleting the Preferences folder and have removed all fonts except Win System fonts (and reinstalled them). I have reinstalled the whole of CS2 but still have the same issue.

    Hi all,
I am having trouble with Illustrator CS2 as well. I have it as part of Creative Suite 2 on Windows XP.
When I use the type tool, the cursor blinks as expected but the app hangs as soon as I type a letter.
I have deleted the files suggested above and reinstalled Illustrator (twice now) but it still happens. I did not uninstall and reinstall the whole suite, just the Illustrator element.
Am at a loss as I really need to use this app today.
    Can anyone please help!
    Thanks
    Laura

  • Kernel Panics with Illustrator CS2

    Hi,
Everytime I use Adobe Illustrator CS2 on my 3 month old MacBook Pro I get Kernel Panics and my computer has a hard time recovering. A couple of times I have had to reboot from the Install Disk to get it past the inital blue startup screen. The first time I had to completely reinstall OSX software. The second time all I had to do was boot from the disk and it was fine afterwards.
Are there any compatibility issues with Intel Macs & Adobe CS2?
    Photoshop appears to work fine.

    Hi, Anapharya.
No kernel panics on my Macs after 10.4.7 Update.
See my "Resolving Kernel Panics" FAQ. This FAQ includes step-by-step instructions for identifying and resolving some of the most common causes of kernel panics.
My FAQ is a roadmap: start at the beginning and work through to the end, including the "If all else fails..." section if a cause or resolution is not found in an earlier troubleshooting step therein.
    Good luck!

"could not complete the request operation"

  • Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS2 not starting - here is how it was solved.

This document is merely a compilation of information found at the sources named at the bottom of this document.
Basically running older Adobe CS2 Software on a MacBook Pro 10.6.x Snow Leopard - probably like many of you that either can't afford the upgrade to CS3, CS4 or CS5, or maybe don't see the need to do so.  It's running good but it is slow since it is using Rosetta, but it does work - well, used to work.
Illustrator CS2, InDesign CS2, Photoshop CS2, etc. were all running fine after the upgrade to Snow Leopard (under 10.6, 10.6.1 and 10.6.2).  Then the update to 10.6.3 was installed.  At the same time a bunch of other updates - including the Acrobat 8.2 update - were installed.  Not really sure what did it, but all of a sudden Illustrator CS2 stopped responding at the start up screen - no longer started up and InDesign CS2 popped the registration/licensing screen.  When trying to enter license info on first key press the application quit entirely.
So maybe the 10.6.3 update was the culprit.  Never even thought that it could be the Acrobat 8.2/8.2.1 updates.  Then I found this thread here:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/613287?tstart=0 (good reading)
Which ultimately pointed me the the instructions here:
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468.html
Replace the corresponding files present in the “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/” folder with the one attached to this document.
Download the attached Mac.dmg (http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/534/cpsid_53468/attachments/Mac.dmg) file to a machine where the issue is seen.
    Close all Adobe applications
Double Click the Mac.dmg file to mount it.
Copy Mac folder from mounted image. Paste it to /Library/ApplicationSupport/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/.
A message appears to confirm to replace the existing 'Mac' folder. Replace the 'Mac' folder.
Launch Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
The Mac folder attached to this KB document already has the correct permissions set, so it should not be necessary to complete the steps below. However there may be cases where the permissions for the Mac folder get overwritten. In such a case, the original issue can reoccur. To solve this issue, complete the steps below:
Follow Solution 1 and make sure that all Adobe applications are closed.
Right or Control click and select 'Get Info' on the Mac folder  in “ /Library/Application Support/Adobe/TypeSpt/Unicode/Mappings/”, which you have copied from the .dmg file attached to this document.
Verify that under 'Sharing and Permissions' all users listed have no write access
If a change is required, click the padlock symbol and provide your Administrator credentials
Select the user which has Write access and change it to 'Read Only'.
Ensure the user 'Everyone' is set to 'No Access.
To check if the issue has been solved, launch Acrobat 8.2 and then Illustrator or InDesign CS or CS 2.
    < end quote
Even after following the instructions still "no love" from Illustrator CS2 or InDesign CS2.  InDesign did no longer show the registration screen, but it didn't continue launching, and Illustrator progressed further along in the start up sequence but also never finished launching.
Then I found another article on the adobe site.  I am just quoting the part performed  and which ultimately did the trick.
    >start quote from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/326/326388.html
Steps 1 and 2 are not relevant so no need to do them
    3. At the Finder, choose File > Find.
    4. TypeAdobeFnt10.lst (Illustrator CS2), select the system drive, and then press Return.
    5. Delete all AdobeFnt10.lst files found.
    6. Restart the computer.
    7. Restart Illustrator. Illustrator creates a new Adobefnt10.lst or AdobeFnt07.lst file.
    < end quote
So, this solved the problems at least for the time being.  Hope this helps someone else a bit.

Illustrator CS2 stopped working for me on Snow Leopard as well. What it all boiled down to was not to update to 12.0.1. Not sure which release of Snow Leopard I was on when I figured that out but I keep up-to-date, am now at 10.6.6 and CS2 still works fine. I keep getting prompted to update to 12.0.1 from time to time but just cancel it.
I'm fairly sure I was at 12.0.1 already when I moved from Leopard to Snow Leopard and it was that, not a Snow Leopard update, that "broke" CS2 12.0.1. If I remember correctly, if you now try to apply the update, it won't go through with it anyway.

  • Installing Win 7 Pro as VM on Macbook Pro with 128G SSD

    Hi there,
I've been searching for some good tips about installing Win 7 Pro as a VM on my new Macbook Pro (4GB i7 version) with a 128 SSD.
Here is what I have and need to achieve:
    I have  Parallel 6 to set up the VM;
    Win 7 Pro 32-bit or 64-bit.
Needs: I only plan to use the Win 7 VM for these:
    1. Run MS Office 2010 Pro Plus -- For compatibility reasons, I just have to use the Window's version of Office, Office 2011 for Mac is not an option for me;
    2. I use video conference a lot, so I need to be able to control the built-in Webcam and Mic of my Macbook Pro from the Windows side, any speical driver I need?
    3. I need to share some files between Mac and Win, but I guess the VM works fine for this kind of task.
    3. As you can see, I only have limited hard drive space, any foreseeable issue with what I need to install?
    Any tip is much appreicated!

You should probably post the Parallels forums:  http://forums.parallels.com

  • Photoshop CS4, Win XP Pro, NVidia 9800GT

    Be forewarned!!!
If you have the above stated system you will have a problem from day one with the installation. After trouble shooting with Adobe using their infernal email system the end result is that Adobe's install routine for Photoshop is corrupted.
IF at a view scale of 100% of a graphic, say 20meg or so, you have slow response using the Marquee tool AND you use or do not use the OpenGL settings (it really does not matter) it is because of a bad install of PS CS4.
You will know this is occurring if you have Norton Systemworks' WinDoctor (or some other program) and it reports problems with various Adobe installed programs. AND these problems are not repairable by your utility.
The reported files that are missing are msvcr80.dll, msvcp80.dll, mfc80u.dll, and one other. They were utilized in CS2 and in CS4. And if you think you can just copy them over this does not work. The CS4 install utilizes newer versions of these files specifically written by them. Older Adobe versions do not repair the problem nor versions from other vendors.
Adobe's Expert Support Staff reported the following to fix the problem.
    1. Backup my 500gig hard drive to an online paid backup site.
    2. Format the hard drive. (I did this just before I installed CS4 as part of my standard install routine).
    3. Install Win XP Pro and all the Service Packs and everything else for Windows.
    4. Install Photoshop 6 and migrate up through the version of Creative Suite.
    5. Install the other 70 or so programs on my main system. And of course five of them are no longer supported by the vendors so I would have to pay for their Tech Support once again since it has been 30 days. Damn Copyright Issues!
    6. After the 2 to 3 days of backing up to the Internet (or purchasing another larger drive, AND spending the week to install all the software packages, proceed to the next step.
    7. Test the install to see if it fixed the Photoshop CS4 problem with the marquee tool.
All because of a poor install routine. You may notice this problem also if you double click on a PSD file, or other graphic file, and nothing happens or an older install of Photoshop starts. This was the clue as to what the initial problem was the bad install routine.
And I did not even go into the software bugs, reported to and known by Adobe, for Dreamweaver I discovered. They will fix them when they release Creative Suite 5(possibly) after I pay for the upgrade! NEVER!!!

Give me back CS2 that ran!!! Oops. Copyright Issues Once Again.

nice rant, i only have one issue:<br /><br />>The CS4 install utilizes newer versions of these files specifically written by them. <br /><br />no. i can pretty much guarantee you adobe is not re-writing microsoft's mfc or visual c++ runtime distributable libraries. <br /><br />>1. • Fextread32 fails in Tux 9.0 on Win XP Pro SP 2

I have been checking out the new Tuxedo 9.0 release with a small test setup that worked fine with 8.1 on Win XP Pro, but gives a problem running on 9.0 - a native client crashes on a Fextread32 resulting in the message:
"<clientprogramname>.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
(followed by an invitation to submit the problem to Microsoft!).
The only OS difference is that I am now using XP pro SP2. Does anyone have any words of wisdom regarding this before I open a case with Support? (It appears that the server also crashes on a Fwrite32 - can't say for sure as I haven't researched this yet).
(I am aware that the reference docs for these functions state that they may not be used in a /WS client, but I have used a native client. There seems to be a certain similarity with an earlier problem described in the thread "10 minute delay on Windows XP" - in a response Todd Little mentioned that XP Pro is not certified to run as a Tuxedo node executing BBL, etc. If this is the reason for the above problem then it is a bit unfortunate - I'm sure I am not alone in using the Windows XP Pro platform (which is our company standard for a laptop) for prototyping Tuxedo solutions!)
    Thanks & best regards,
    Malcolm.

The version of the Microsoft compiler supported by Tuxedo has changed
between Tuxedo 8.1 and Tuxedo 9.0.
The original Tuxedo 8.1 release on Windows 2000 required Visual C/C++ 6.0
SP4 or compatible. Libraries compatible with VC.net were provided as
    downloads at a later date.
Tuxedo 9.0 on Windows 2003 and on Windows XP requires VC.net 2003
    Professional.
This is important because Microsoft has changed the implementation of the
stdio library between compiler versions. The two APIs in which your program
is crashing both use FILE pointers that are allocated in the application and
then referenced in Tuxedo. The FILE structure has changed in newer
Microsoft compiler versions, and a FILE pointer allocated in one compiler
version cannot be used by a library linked with another compiler version.
BEA wrote the following compatibility description some time ago:
All existing Tuxedo Windows product binaries (DLLs) [for release 8.1 and
earlier] were built using either VC 5 or VC 6 , or some combination when a
Tuxedo certification involved testing of older binaries on new Windows
platforms. Because of binary compatibility support on Windows in the past,
Microsoft fully supported the "co-mingling" of older VC binaries with newer
version of the compiler (i.e. VC 5 with VC 6). However, MS has recently
stated that their support for VC 6 runtime in a VC.net environment
(co-mingled environment containing both a VC 6 runtime (Tux DLL) and a .Net
runtime (application built using VC.net)) is limited to invocations of
system APIs that do not span across both runtime libraries (ie objects must
be managed by it's own runtime libraries). For example, memory space
allocated via a malloc() call in one runtime library(e.g. VC 6) cannot be
released by a free() call in another runtime library (e.g. .Net 2003).
Based on BEA's own investigations and tests, the following issues have been
identified for Tuxedo applications in the co-mingled environment using VC
    .Net:
    1. If a Tuxedo application compiled with VC.net performs writes using
buffered IO library functions (e.g. fprintf) via a FILE handle (including
stdout, and stderr) and calls a Tuxedo function that also writes to the same
FILE handle, the output may not appear in same order as written. A similar
behavior occurs on input. This happens because separate buffers are used to
buffer the input and output in the two versions of the C runtime library.
NOTE: To date Microsoft has proposed several possible workarounds for
managing unbuffered output by calling setbuf(., _IONBF) , and  GetProcAddr()
in the application to get the address of setbuf in the VC 6 library.
However, these workarounds have potential performance implications and have
not been fully tested by the Tuxedo team and would require the customer to
verify their specific application and workaround with Microsoft Support.
    2. Based on our analysis of buffer I/O within Tuxedo, the following
Tuxedo FML APIs are affected and cannot be used in the co-mingled .Net VC
environments. These APIs involve passing a FILE pointer from the application
to Tuxedo and violate the restriction on using CRT-bound objects across
    different CRT versions:
    FMLread(), FMLread32(), FMLwrite(), FMLwrite32(), Fread(), Fread32(),
    Fwrite(), Fwrite32(), Fboolpr(), Fboolpr32(), Fvboolpr(), Fvboolpr32(),
    Fextread(), Fextread32(), Ffprint(), Ffprint32()
    3. A related issue occurs for Tuxedo servers. If the -e or -o options are
specified as command line options for an application server instance (to
redirect output to user-specified files), buffered output to stdout or
stderr (e.g. via fprintf) may not appear in the redirected files. NOTE: The
only known workaround for this problem is for customer applications to
explicitly manage own output redirection in their Tuxedo servers.

  • Win 7 Pro chipset drivers for dc 7100

    Hi
I have a dc 7100 small form factor desktop running XP Pro. I wish to upgrade to Win 7 Pro but Windows Advisor says my chipset is not compatable. When I go to the HP download site for drivers the only drivers on the list are dated 2005. Where can I get the correct ones?
    Thanks,
    Steve

    Hi, Steve:
Below is the W7 chipset driver for your PC.
    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=861&DwnldID=20019&keyword=Chipset+inst...
Neither the dc7100 nor the dc7600 are supported by HP for W7 (although the dc7600 runs W7 just fine).
So, you will not find any W7 drivers provided by HP for either model.
The dc7100 has a problem if you have the onboard graphics.  It is not W7 capable. That is why the upgrade advisor is reporting the chipset is incompatible. It means the video chipset is incompatible and it is.
    You will never have Aero.
Install the above chipset driver first and reboot.
I have a a workaround to get the onboard graphics to work so you can change the video resolution and have graphics acceleration:
Download and run this Vista driver from the nc6120 notebook.  You will probably get an unsupported operating system error. Close out of any error windows.
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=US&swItem=ob-472...
Go to the device manager and expand the display adapters section.  Click on the standard vga adapter.
Click on the driver tab. Click on update driver. Select the Browse my computer for software method, and browse to the installation folder that was created when you ran the file.
That will be located in C:\SWSetup\sp34749. Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.
Upon reboot, you should have decent graphics but no Aero.
If you want to run all the graphics features of Windows 7, you will need to purchase a W7 capable PCIe x16 low profile video card that includes a low profile bracket that will work with the 245W P/S in your PC.
