Files icon not correct

All files created by different applications, Word, Excel or Adobe, will not reflect the icon of that application in colour but just a B&W file, how to adjust this ?
Thanks

The situation with .doc files is a bit complex, it all depends on where they came from, and which version of Word created them, and when. Indeed, whether they were created with MS Word or something else. Thus, I have Word documents going back to Word '97, I also have .doc files that were created with TextEdit, Abiword and NeoOffice. Additionally, since I hate having Word launch (I now use Word 2004 when I positively have to open something with Word), because it takes so long and uses so dang much screen real estate, I have assigned files with the .doc to open with TextEdit. The result is that my .doc files can show any one of about 3 or 4 different document icons. Something that was created with MS Office Word 2004, and has Word assigned to open it, will show a small page with a blue border along the top with a "W" at the edge and a light blue "a" filling the rest of the icon. Older Word documents have a grey page icon with the old Word logo on top of it. More generic Word .docs that are set to open with TextEdit have a plain white page with the upper corner turned down.
The situation is similar with PDFs, which might be created by Adobe Acrobat or by the Mac OS and can be assigned to either Acrobat or Preview. Which icon the file displays will depend on whether the creator information is stored in the resource fork of the file and which application is assigned to open the file. Since I don't have Acrobat, all my PDFs display the Preview icon in the center with "PDF" at the bottom.
If you have changed what file is opened by which application, or the Mac doesn't remember which application is supposed to be used, then doing what macjack suggests and restarting might change the icon situation. But I wouldn't count on it, and you'll start getting the warning about "you are opening the application for the first time" when you double-click some file to launch its application, until you have finally run every application you have at least once.
Finally, the default icon for files created by an application are determined by the application itself. For some applications it is possible to change this fairly easily, if you have some knowledge of icns files. Word 2004 is NOT one of those applications.

  • Files are not correctly named and only 1kb in size - Music Downloads

I have encountered a different problem. I bought a music album on my Z10, and when i download it, the files are not correctly named and only 1kb in size.
No error is given when downloading, but when i open it, the phone switches to the music player and clains the file does not exist. When i look on the sdcard, there are files which contain something like this:
    <html><head><title>Object moved</title></head><body>
    <h2>Object moved to <a href="http://media.geo.7digital.com/media/error.aspx?errorCode=2001&amp;errorMsg=The%2btrack%2b'8638556'%2...">here</a>.</h2>
    </body></html>
Is there any way how I can deal with this problem?

Ok, does anyone from support read here? I bought this album on 23rd of March. Emails to the appworldsupport email adress from the confirmation email give me just the information back that "direct support is unavailable through this address" I would really like to finally listen to my music... As i paid for it. It still does not download... Is there any email address i can contact for this issue?

  • File icons not displaying in dock folders

I'm having trouble seeing File icons in the folders added to the dock in Lion. For example I am used to seeing a file icon that isa preview of the file e.g. for a pdf the icon would show the content of that pdf. For many files (but not all) I just see a black box with a white dashed line around it (see image).Eventually these icons may refresh and display properly and if I open the folder in finder the icon is correct but not in stacks. It's not a file type specific issue because in the attached image some jpegs are displaying other are not. Any advice?

    Solved.

  • Finder Strange behaviour: folder and file icons not showing, then they disa

Yesterday I was trying to install the postgresql package from (http://web.mac.com/dru_satori/iWeb/PostgreSQLforMac/Welcome.html). Actually I had an older version of their package, i uninstalled it, tried installing the new package, but kept receiving errors that the installation was not correct.
Now the point of this question, as I was doing the above, i started to notice that some files (either on my desktop or in a folder window) are not showing the icon. Only the label is showing! when I click on such a file, the file disappear (i mean even the label is gone).
I have completed permission repairs, disk repairs. I also noticed that this is only happening in my account, but not that of other accounts on this computer, which indicates that this is a problem in my home directory. I have also re-lunched the finder using the force quit window. I have also trashed the com.apple.finder.plist and logged out and then logged in again. I have just noticed that (pages) is asking for the serial number! I have this program installed months ago! It seems that some other files are also getting damaged!
Is there something that I am missing? Is this a bug? is there any solution, because this is very annoying and it might indicate a bigger problem that I am not aware of.
    thank you for your help

I also noticed that this is only happening in my account, but not that of other accounts on this computer, which indicates that this is a problem in my home directory.
    Good first troubleshooting step!
Now log back into your normal user account: (In your case I would try preferences first)
    1. Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/fonts - drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If they work start adding the fonts back few at a time.
( Likely suspects are Times RO & Helvetica Fractions, also if you do not use Classic you can trash the classic fonts.)
    2. Check Preferences Thoroughly;
    • Navigate to ~(yourhome/library/preferences drag this folder to the desktop.
    • Restart and test your applications.
    • If this works, save the old preferences folder somewhere else or on disk, name it "old prefs" .
** Note: A very important file is the "com.apple.Mail.plist" preference file located in the Preferences folder which contains all email account settings and general mail preferences (hold this one and replace if your problem is not with Mail).
You'll have to go through some of your System Preferences and apps to set the preferences back to how you like them. (Or if you have the time and inclination, "cherry pick" through until you find the problem one or two.)
    3. Check Permissions Inside Home Folder
       • Navigate to yourhome/library.
       • Get Info (Command - i) on folders for apps you are having problems with.
       • Open the "Ownership & permissions" disclosure triangle.
       • Make sure you are the owner, with "read and write" access.
    • Click on "apply to all"
       • If this is correct, open the "Applications Support" folder and do the same procedure (Command+I) for the folders with the names of the applications you are having trouble with.
    Note:
The reason to check this is because repairing permissions with Disk Utility doesn't touch permissions inside your home folder.
If the issue persists navigate to yourhome/library/caches and drag this folder to the trash, then log out and back or restart. There is no need to replace this folder.

  • Name of the file generated not correct

    Hi all,
We are using E-Business Suite R12. We have a concurrent request with executable Oracle Report and output type: XML. When is submitted we try to save it in Excel but the name of the file is not with the correct name/report name/ but in "hieroglyphics". The name of the report is in Cyrillic alphabet.
The result we received:Регистър_РЅР°_факт_200212The result needed: Регистър на фактурите 200212.
Any ideas? I'm not sure i'm asking at the right place... if not - please guide where to post thread.
    RDBMS : 11.1.0.7.0
Oracle Applications : 12.1.3Thanks in advance,
    Bahchevanov.

you can't get the generated filename for write operation.
But what you can do, is to define header variable of OutboundHeader_msg type, define your own filename (based on your unique creation criteria) and then pass it to invoke activity for file creation.

  • File Icons Not Appearing in Finder

Over the years I have archived projects on CDs and DVDs. I have always worked on Macs. No PC involvement. I have been doing this since 1987. Over the past couple weeks I have noticed that the icons of files (not folders) on my older disks are not appearing. I am using the latest Mac OS 10.8.3 on a MacBook Pro. However, on a friend's older Mac Pro tower (Intel), running an older OS (10.6.8), the file icons do appear. Also, it seems that all folder icons do appear on both systems. I have searched the Internet for an answer. I have a lot of old files that I currently cannot seem to access because of this issue. Can anyone shed any light on this? I think it may be an OS issue.

    Hi,
I was under the impression that the Disk Level info was the bit that had the problem.
I am not sure why I ended up with that thought as you clearly state it is contents type info such as tiffs and the like you cannot "see" for long.
The Site did help with that.
I dug out a old Mag CD with a game on in.
I do not suffer losing sight of any of the files no matter which view I adopt.
It lists the Mac OS Standard as the format and the Roman encoding your Video and pics show.
(Strangely it says it was Modified  and the date is before the listed Modified dates of the files and folder it contains).
I don't have any self created disks from that time to test.
I am at a loss myself now.
Sometimes, as in my Pic, the Applications that were written for OS 9 (Classic era) and earlier have the no entry sign over them.
Other times the items will show a generic file icon as it has "lost" which app it belongs to.  (Which the PRAM reset deals with)
Your files clearly show the icons of the apps that would normally open them.
Files or folders that are normally hidden don't get counted in Quick Look or other forms of veiwing the contents, such as the lower bar in my pic.
It would appear the OS is reading the Disk properly but  then deciding that it is not going to display all of it.
I tried viewing the files on my drive if different views - iCon and Cover Flow for certain - but did not notice any difference in what was presented.
If you have the Disk Open and in the Finder > View Menu > Show View Options and then choose Show Icon Preview do you get to see the tiff files at all ?
I would also try the Size change in the Cover Flow view just to see if it is something about the icon data that is "missing" or being mis-read.
I am clutching at straws at this point.

  • .idea & .psdx file icons not supported in Bridge?

I was wondering when bridge would support .idea & .psdx file icons.  I use bridge to browse my files and it would make life easier to have the icons supported.  You would thing something like that would have been thought of.  Does anyone know if that is something that is being worked on?  I was hoping it would have been supported in the newest version of bridge cc, but it's not.

I was hoping it would have been supported in the newest version of bridge cc, but it'snot.
Hoping alone is almost never enough...
Try to let your wish for this support know to Adobe and file a Feature request for it. Without any guarantee for success because very little has changed over the years in Bridge but still much better then hoping they can read your mind

  • Open Hub Destination with Flat File - Structure file is not correct

Using the new concept for Open Hub destination (NOT an InfoSpoke).
Output is to a Flat File. Remember that when output is to a flat file 2 files are generated: the output file and a structure file (S_<name of output file>.CSV)
The Output file structure corresponds to the structure defined in the Open Hub destination.
However, the S_ (structure) file does not reflect the proper structure. The S_ file lists all fields sorted in alphabetical order based on the field name, instead of listing all fields in the correct order that they appear in the output file.
I have not found any settings that I can modify for the S_ file. When using InfoSpokes the S_ file is correct and I do not have to do anything.
The issue is that the S_ file cannot be used to describe the output file. This is a problem.
Anyone knows a solution to this issue? The goal is to get the S_ file to reflect the proper structure.
I could not find any Notes on this. Please do not send general help links, this is a specific question.
Thank you all for your support.

    Hi,
However, the S_ (structure) file does not reflect the proper structure. The S_ file lists all fields sorted in alphabetical order based on the field name, instead of listing all fields in the correct order that they appear in the output file.
As I know and checked this is not the case. The S_ file has the fields in the order of infospoke object sequence ( and in transformation tab, source structure).
I would suggest you to control it again.

  • Bridge CS5 file associations not correct...

When I try to open an office 2007 document, the default application is set to Thunderbird and when I try to edit it in the Edit>Preverences>File Type Associations, it isn't listed at all. My OS default applicaions for Office 2007 files are all correct, it's just Bridge that I have the problem. Any ideas?

The file properties are correctn and the files open in the oppropriate program when opened via double clicking in Explorer, it's only in Bridge that I have the problem. If I right click the file in Bridge, I have the choice of the correct application and then underneath, Thunderbird (default). So the option is there, it just won't let me make it the default. As seen below...

  • 'Browse For File' icon not working in Dreamweaver CS4

    Hello All.
Ever since upgrading my copy of Dreamweaver from version 8 to CS4, I seem to have accounted an annoying bug (?)
If, for example, I want to change an image on a webpage, I would click the image in question on the screen and by using the Properties panel would select a new image by clicking the 'Browse For File' icon in the 'Source File Of Image' section of the panel.
Then I would select the new image, hit 'OK' and the image would be changed.
Now when I do this nothing happens - the original image remains and cannot be altered.
I now have to manually type the link of the new image into the 'Source File Of Image' field, which is a pain.
I have even disabled my firewall and anti-virus just in case these were somehow conflicting but still no change.
    Any ideas anyone please?
    Thanks,
    Jon
Using Dreamweaver CS4 on Windows Vista Home Premium SP2

If Dreamweaver is behaving in an odd way, it frequently means that there is a corrupt personal configuration folder.
Close Dreamweaver, locate the personal configuration folder, and rename it.
When you restart Dreamweaver, it should create a new configuration folder with all the program defaults.
For details of how to find the configuration folder, see this page in the Dreamweaver FAQ.
    Hope this solves your issue.

  • IPhoto library file kind not correct

Hi, my iPhoto library works fine when opening etc., but ive noticed that for some reason it is not showing the new palm tree picture as an icon - probably because the file kind is "package" rather than "iPhoto Library". Im sure it updated to the new iphoto 11 (ver 9) format when I first opened it in the upgrade, but even though it all works fine - it worries me that it doesnt seem to be fully converted. I checked the package contents and compared to another (correctly displaying) library and they look identical bar for the fact it is missing the PkgInfo file in the contents folder. Is this significant?
Can some one suggest how to correct the file kind so it displays correctly!?
    Many Thanks,
    Rich.

Try one more thing: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Check to see if the library's icon has returned.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.
    Check the icon again.

  • 30D file names not correct

EOS 30D: Recently the camera started naming the image files differently.  The files are now _MG_xxxx, with an underscore instead of “I” in the first character.  How did this happen, and more importantly, how do I correct it?  The 30D does not have an optional naming feature.

I use Adobe RGB all the time... It's a wider color gamut. It's not needed for many things, such as JPEGs online and many printing processes. But it's easy to change to sRGB for those purposes, yet keep the RAW file with the full gamut for other purposes or future needs.
You can always reduce an Adobe RGB file to an sRGB. Going the other way... you can rename it, but can't actually expand an sRGB to Adobe RGB. If you don't have the data captured in the first place, there's no going back and getting it.

  • Xml file icon not showing

    Hi,
I recently installed Dreamweaver CS4 on my Vista Business 32bit. By default xml files are associated to open with Dreamweaver, however the icon that is being displayed for the xml files is a blank paper icon. All the other files like .css, .js etc seem to show the proper Dreamweaver icon. The problem is only with xml files. I have tried doing a System Restore but that didn't work. I have also tried re-installing Dreamweaver but that didn't work either.
I am now stuck and don't know what else to do. When double clicking the file, it will open fine in Dreamweaver. It's only the icon that's really annoying me.
I hope there is a better solution than formatting the machine which I don't want to do at the moment.
Thanks and looking forward to a quick fix.
    Wasim

Installed today CS6 and got the same problem. All icons from dreamweaver are displayed correctly inside windows exporer except for .XML files.
What i did to resolve the problem:
    opened registry (cmd regedit)
    changed
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\xmlfile\DefaultIcon
    Default = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS6\Dreamweaver.exe",9
    deleted (make backup)
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\xmlfile\ShellEx\IconHandler]
    @="{AB968F1E-E20B-403A-9EB8-72EB0EB6797E}"
right click at a .XML file and set default program again to Dreamweaver
then the correct icon appears immediately.
of course i re-added the removed "IconHandler" key after success.
beside this i removed several times the "IconCache.db" from
    C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Local
but this wasn't helpful i thing - just to mention here.

  • "Save As" or Downloaded file Icons not appearing on Desktop or FindeFolders

I've had this on-going problem for weeks now. I thought it was isolated to Microsoft Office tools, and now I'm not so sure. (When I would save attachments from MS Office to my Desktop, they would not appear.)
However, this morning I booted my machine brought up Safari and start surfing . Found a PDF I wanted to read, downloaded it, and no ICON. Spotlight says it's there, and I can open it from Spotlight, but the ICON is STILL not on my desktop.
When I've had this problem before, I could log out/log back in and all the Icons magically appear.
    Anyone else having this issue?
This seemed to start having right after I applied the 10.4.10 update. Yes, I've repaired Permissions, etc.

Finder can sometimes be a real sluggard about updating folders, there used to be a nice contextual menu item called Nudge which would force it to update. Unfortunately it no longer works. I tried writing a simple Applescript to force Finder to update but I couldn't get that to work either. It seems especially prone to problems about updating the Desktop, which is one of a number of reasons I tend to not put stuff on the Desktop--I keep a couple of folders on the Desktop for the sorts of files one tends to drop there and put things into those folders instead. Rather than logging out/in you can force the Finder to relaunch, which generally does force an update of the Desktop and folder contents:
    1. Hold down the option key and click on the Finder icon in the Dock
    2. Select Relaunch from the menu
All open windows will be closed by this action, but at least you don't have to quit your programs. Takes about a second or so.
