Files missing in finder view

Recently, I have noticed that files are missing from the finder view. The files are still there (they show up in a "find" or spotlight search and will list if the directory is accessed over the network.) It is as if the files are hidden.
I have tried several ways to refresh the window, none do anything.
If I know the filename and "search it" in the finder window, it will show up. After I "cancel" the search parameters, the file/folder is visible again.
The first time I noticed this, I had a complete list of files in a window. I clicked on the one that I needed, and it vanished from view. This happened on several other files as well.
Any ideas?

I found the solution to my own problem. It is an issue with ChronoSync, a third party sync program. They are fixing the problem in the next version of the program (a beta is available now, which seems to have fixed things).

  • Preference files missing in Finder view, sidebar folders disappear

I have a combination of symptoms:
    * In the home/library/preferences folder, only 112 files are visible. The remaining files are there, you can find them with spotlight but not in a regular Finder view
    * The icons for my mostly used folders that I had in my sidebar started disappearing after logout/restart
    * Some, not all of my icons in the top finder menu bar also are lost after restart
    * This may be connected to installing new version of Parallels, but I am not sure of timing
    Any hints?

Some more information on this topic:
I look into the home/library/preferences folder, there are only 112 items, in alphabetic order
I search for plist files with HOudaSpot in the same folder, find eg "com.omnigroup.OmniGrafflePro.plist"
Using the "Reveal in Finder" command, I can see the file in the folder, which now contains 113 files!
However, as soon as I switch to another application and then return to Finder, this file is gone and I am back to 112
In addition, I have found a "????.plist" file in the preferences folder
    Anyone got a clue?

  • Files Missing in Finder

A large number of photo files have disappeared from my iPhoto library in Finder view, but still appear in iPhoto itself. I've tried browsing in Photoshop and in the Finder, as well as searching, but no files appear in the year/month/date folder structure. What happened to my files??

Select a photo in iPhoto, Control-Click on it, and select "Show in Finder". That will show you were the actual file is.
Also, can you view them in full-screen mode? If not, then the file might really be missing, and iPhoto is just showing you the lower-resolution thumbnail from the data folders.

  • Files Missing in Finder but Listed in Terminal

I have a bunch of Videos on an External Drive. When I double click them to open, they disappear suddenly. However, QuickTime launches and even Plays the file
The missing files show up in Terminal.
Copying the Videos folder does not solve this. Finder does not see these files even after setting it show show Hidden Files.
I have unmounted the drive, remounted it, restarted my computer, but no luck.
How do I get Finder to show my missing files again ?

For some reason, I now see all my files in Finder.
I have no idea why or how this happened.
I hope to move on from this experience now.

Sync archive is successful, but cannot find latest config file in the config viewer, Prime LMS 4.2.4

    Hi,
Go Admin > Collection Settings > Config > Config Archive Settings
Make sure   enable shadow directory is Checked
Also check you have folders like shadow , devfiles ..etc under NMSROOT/CSCOpx/files/rme/dcma
If these folders are missing ... then it is a database issue..
if files and folders are fine then check if it happening for any particulr device or set of devices or all the devices ?
    Thanks-

  • Lock Finder view as list in every Window/File picker

I have my Finder in list view: always and everywhere (except for the occasional pictures folder).
Within Yosemite I encounter a lot of differences. Sometimes a folder opens in icon view. When the file picker windows appear (in Pages for example) it is icons or columns. It changes randomly.
Is there a way to lock every view of files to "list view".
I tried in Finder, View Options, set as Default. That doesn't work.

Thx for that im gonna try it....but is there a way to do it without using toolbar or cmd-c...? i mean using only the mouse?why does it have to highlight the file even though i click a bit next to it....?using icon view i can right click next to the folder and i wont have a problem but with list view that i prefer using it will highlight the whole row.....and i dont find free space to right click cause i got many files

  • Viewing File Size in Finder

Is it possible to include file size as one of the columns in any of the finder views?
I've created a smart search for files above a specific size, but would like to view the actual size in the Finder window. Was easy to add additional attribute columns in Windows Explorer, by just right-clicking.
    Thanks

    adriannwi_uk,
Using your desired window select>View>Show View Options...>(✓) Size

  • I Cant view thumbnail versions of Raw Files (.arw) in finder when i upgraded to Lion.

I Cant view thumbnail versions of Raw Files (.arw) in finder when i upgraded to Lion.
It worked in Snow Leopard without a problem.
    Any Solutions?

    Ben,
I also take photos with a sony DSLR. Not a professional one but theAlpha700.
So this was one annoying issue.
But, I haven't found the reason why, after a few days the problem returned.
This happened after setting up my preferences. When we do this, some how, the preferences file becomes 'corrupted' or changes any bit/byte that interferes with icon display.
But if we repeat the process (delete prefs files), things become all right again.
    hope this helps.

  • Finder is hiding files based on the view

In my Downloads directory, I have many files. In column-view (Cmd-3), I see all of them. But when I switch to list view (Cmd-2), it shows a very small subset of my files. I've checked extended attributes, Finder info, and I've found no reason why these files should be hidden. The selection seems random, as some files with the same extension are hidden, but others aren't. Oh, and all of the files are visible in icon view (Cmd-1) also.
Here are some examples: Documents.zip appears, but Anxiety.zip is hidden. alerts.cl is shown, but eistein.qi is hidden.
Removing the .DS_Store file has no effect.
    Perplexed,
    John

Are you using iPhoto 08? If so, I have heard that it holds its file structures very differently in Finder than iPhoto 06 or earlier. Basically, everything is accessible from WITHIN iPhoto, and will also show up in Spotlight as you have found. However Apple in their wisdom have decided to discourage people from manipulating iPhoto documents from outside iPhoto, as it might interfere with iPhoto's file management and lead to problems.
As the iPhoto files (your photos and folders) are now held inside iPhoto itself, if you do a 'Show package contents' you will see them. If you would rather organise / keep your photos OUTSIDE iPhoto, then go to Preferences and uncheck the 'Copy to iPhoto Library' option under Advanced > Importing (that is an option in iPhoto 06 which I am using - you will have to check if it is still available in iPhoto 08). Then you simply choose yourself how to keep your photos organised, how to import them, etc, and use iPhoto mainly as a viewer & simple editor.

  • Inconsistent and incorrect file icons in finder window list view

I have been seeing incorrect file icons in finder windows noteably for PDF files the last couple of weeks on my office MacMini running 10.5.8. Some just look messed up. Some switched and looked like Evernote files, but they open correctly in the default application - Preview.
Get info would show the same incorrect icon, but correctly show Preview as the default application.
Just now I tried clicking on CoverFlow view and when I went back to List view, the icons looked correct again.
What type of system maintenance if any is needed to correct this issue? Note, these files continue to display correctly on my home iMac where these files are synced.

    Thanks for the reply Baltwo.
I followed your directions. After the restart the PDF icons were all displayed correctly.
However, some .doc file icons were blank. Selected one, got info, set it to open with MSWord and then clicked "apply to all." Most, but not all now display the Word logo. Some remain blank, although get info reveals they are set to open with Word. Will another restart fix this or is there another suggestion?
I will be away from this computer till Monday.

  • File disappears in finder on click, but i can see in list view

today i had a strange thing for the first time (10.9.1),
i clicked on several files in the finder, and within a fraction of a second the file was gone. (on the click)
i searched for them, and no results, but i went into list view (home>desktop>"listview" of files)
and there, the files were shown up. i copied them into a subfolder, and now they are present again.
    any idea, what went wrong?
    thanks

Do a Get Info on Finder on the Documents folder, see what Rights & privileges you have or do not have.

  • Top 2-3 files displayed in Finder are hidden under Finder's menu bar. How do I modify view to correct this?

Recently updated to Yosemite 10.10.2 on MacBook Pro (early 2011) and now when I open a folder in Finder, the top 2-3 files displayed are hidden under Finder's menu bar. I can scroll up to see the files, but they snap back under the menu bar preventing me from selecting or opening them. This problem occurs in the following Finder view preferences, "icons" "in lists" and "in columns" but not "Cover Flow".  Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you.

This sounds like a Windows thing ( You can post a photo and I can tell you for certain). Those folders are Windows system created folders that your computer has had since it was installed, all Firefox does is use the Windows File picker, which is what you see when you open that window. So, to customize you'd have to do that from Windows Explorer (not Firefox).
The Window should however remember what folder you were in last.

  • Viewing iPhoto files from the Finder

Prior to iLife '08, I could see pictures in my iPhoto Library files from the Finder, allowing me to browse for files from within Adobe applications. Now I can see nothing. Am I missing something? Is there a way of seeing my image files - or possibly my Albums - from outside of iPhoto without exporting the desired files first?
    Thanks...
    Bob Magnant

There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
You can set Photoshop as an external editor in iPhoto: Use the general pane in the Prefeences to do this. This way, when you double click on a pic in iPhoto it will open automatically in PS and when you save it it will be saved back to iPhoto atuomatically.
The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.

  • Sub-Folder View Icons Missing in List View (Finder)

Since upgrading to Lion, the arrows in Finder for viewing sub folders has disappeared from Finder in list view and cover flow. At first, I just figured it was another nice feature of OS X they decided to kill off, but I was looking at my boyfriend's computer, and his still has the triangle icons, and he's using Lion.
I've tried a few things to try to fix it, but nothing seems to help. Using the Command + right arrow key combination causes some weird glitch folders to appear below the folder I'm trying to view the contents of. The names of those folders is always stuff like "Folders", "Applications", "PDF Documents", among others. Here's a screenshot of my Finder view, and those odd folders:
Does anyone know how to fix these issues? Thank you for any replies. =)

Wow, Woolgatherer was right on on this one! What was bugging me, besides not having the up/down sort arrow buttons in the columns, was I was backwards on the arrangement. In essence, when I had the arrangement in "Kind," the items were from "z to a" instead of "a to z." The arrangement view is nice to look at, because it separates the types of items into groups, but you can not reverse the order quickly.
If you do as Woolgatherer says, and turn off the "Arrange by" to none, and then the folders display the up/down arrows to go in alphabetical order from top to bottom or bottom to top. Once you toggle the header arrow, then you can actually go back to "Arrange by" to "Kind," and it is in the opposite order. What I mean by this, if you sort from the header "a to z" and then go to the Arrange by "Kind," it is now in the order of "z to a." This is very weird.
