FINAL CUT PRO 5.1.4 Sync (Drifting) Issues shot with Canon XL2

So basically I am still having trouble with audio sync drifting and I captured the footage correctly using the 2:3:3:2 pull down 24p and 48khz. Any suggestions anyone else can give me? The last fella suggested that I should CHANGE the speed of the audio track to match up with the video track but I don't want a percentage of change in the way the audio sounds like even though it is very SMALL. Any suggestions I would very much appreciate. Thanks.

Butting in where might not be helpful…
The Canon DV and FW protocols are weird.
Here's what a buddy of mine has been doing for many years:
a. Place the long clip in the timeline.
b. Unlink the audio and video tracks in the timeline.
c. Select the audio clip and scrub till the end of the sound is reached. Hopefully this is eaisly matched to the video clip. Trim to that point.
d. Select the video clip and match the outpoint to the same frame of action (helps if there's a specific sound like a clap or a notebook being closed or someone's voice). Now choose Speed and wirte down the exact length of the clip.
e. Select the audio clip and choose Speed and enter the exact time of the video clip. Render.
f. Relink the two tracks which are now exactly the same length.

  • Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 Sequence Settings - Importing from a Canon XL2

Under Sequence Settings and the Advanced tab, should I leave the Compressor Quality tab at HIGH or BEST? I have heard that it's best to keep it at High but I just wanted to make sure of it. Also, since the Canon XL2 is a progressive scan camera (right?) should I lave the Scan Mode to INTERLACED or PROGRESSIVE and should I leave the Aspect Ratio to 4:3 even though I am shooting in 16:9? Thanks so much for your help.

You recorded DV/NTSC 16:9 Anamorphic (or DV/PAL depending on where you live)
That's what your Easy preset settings should be.
And no, the camera does not record progressive. It records 29.97 interlaced - like all DV cams recording to tape do. If the setting said 24fps, the camera inserted pull down in the 29.97 image stream. Unless you need to go back to film, simply edit the material in a 29.97 timeline.

I just went through this and it appears that my Focusrite Saffire was the culprit. I connected all the outputs on the focusrite according to the way the jacsk on the back were labeled and then set up the multichannel speaker setup to match. Then I went into STP, created a pink noise clip and panned it around, the LFE, center and rears were not in the right place.
I reconnected the hardware to match the 5.1 pan pot in STP then changed the multichannel speaker setup to match. Everything appears to be correct now but I would have loved to have been able to just assigned the output busses to correct outputs in the saffire.
Next step is to pan that pink noise around with my SPL meter to calibrate the room.

I have a project in Final cut pro 10.5 and every action takes up to 30 seconds for the program to respond . The spinning icon stays up during this time?

Are you using Mavericks. If so you should update FCPX

  • Export a Final Cut Pro XML file problem about translation issue

When I export the final cut pro xml file, there is always translation issue like that 'Transition <....> not translated, Cross Dissolve used instead.'
Most of the transition type can cause the translation issues except the wipe and cross dissolve.
Is there any body knowing the reason? Is that OK?
By the way , I am using the trial version of cs5

    Hey Ani_,
I've been working with Adobe products for a long time and typically when you come across an error that has anything to do with a XML file export problem its due to things such as effects you may have added in, color corrections, cross fades or any type of video transitions between clips. Remember your work flow should be
Import your footage into Premiere Pro
Name your clips (helps find things later on)
Place clips on time line in the order you wish (ONLY MAKE CUTS don't add anything, transitions color effects nothing)
Then once your clips are all placed on the timeline in your correct order you then EXPORT> Final Cut Pro XML
Now you can bring this into other programs for color grading or whatever else your going to do.  You will notice you have no errors on the export.
Once your done doing what your doing to the clips in another program (for example: Divinci Resolve color grading) you can then export them back to your main project then add your effects and transitions.

  • Is Final Cur Pro 7 support due to be terminated soon?  If so, what has replaced it?  I hear Final Cut Pro X is really awful have replaced it with a new version?

Is Final Cut Pro 7 support due to be terminated soon?  I know that Final Cut pro X is awful but has it been replaced by something new?  If so will Final Cut Pro 7 be able to interact with any new version?

When it first appeared in 2011, FCP X attracted a lot of adverse criticism because it appeared that Apple, in their enthusiasm, had rushed it out a bit too quickly whilst there were still some glitches that needed ironing out and a lot of features that had not been incorporated.
Since then there have been 8 revisions and these later versions have answered pretty well all the criticisms that were levelled against it.
As with every brilliant new invention there were teething problems coupled with dinosaurs who resented anything different or new ............. when electricity took over from candles there were numerous prophets of doom and history has countless similar examples.

  • Final Cut Pro 5 and After Affects 6.5  compatable with Tiger?

I'm running OSX 10.3.9 and want to upgrade to Tiger. Will Tiger be compatible with Final Cut Pro 5.0? How about After Affects 6.5?

I'm running both on an intel mac pro. No problems with Tiger so far. Although Motion does a lot of things that I used to do in AE

  • Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 - HD 1920 issue

    Hi,
I am trying to bring in HD footage shot on a Nikon D5100 into FCP 5.1.4. The footage appears to be 1920 x 1080, 25fps, H.264, Square pixel. I can't seem to find a sequence preset that would match that? The nearest is 1440 x 1080, which doesn't look right and every file needs to be rendered every time I bring it in, which is incredibly dull..
    Have I missed a setting?
I'm also wondering as a second point. I need to mix some HD footage as above with some SD footage. I'm assuming that if i keep to the HD settings if I can, when I bring in the SD it will just look like SD on an HD screen, ie its not going to magically become higher quality, but it wont look any worse that it already did?
    Thanks

The only option for full raster 1920x1080 in 5.1 is Uncompressed HD. And not only will that take up a LOT of drive space, but you'll need a very fast RAID array to play it.
The only other HD formats it worked with were HD (1440x1080), DVCPRO HD (1280x1080)...and Apple Intermediate Codec (1440x1080), which is really only there as a stop gap for HDV. Quality stinks.
You are using 8-9 year old software...one at the cusp of the HD revolution. It doesn't have many options.
    >I'm assuming that if i keep to the HD settings if I can, when I bring in the SD it will just look like SD on an HD screen, ie its not going to magically become higher quality, but it wont look any worse that it already did?
Correct...but worse. Because you will be blowing up the image to 10x it's original size. Any pixels or artifacts inherent in it will be magnified too.  For good looking SD blown up to HD, you need to:
    1) Use a Terranex to upconvert. This is the best option...external hardware.
    2) Use an AJA Kona 2-3 card to upconvert. It is basically a mini Terranex.
    3) Use Instant HD from redgiantsoftware to do the upconvert. But will it work on the old computer and OS running FCP 5.1? Have any compatible settings?  Not sure.
    4) Use Compressor to do the upconvert.
    5) Use Adobe Premiere to do the upconvert. I've used CS6 for this, and it's just below the Kona in quality, but above Compressor and InstantHD.

  • If i buy final cut pro can i run on iMac and macbook with same license

  • Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?

    Hello:
Just today, I was working on a Mac system that does not have any of the applications that I would have expected to need to have installed in order to do more than just decompress movie files compressed with Apple ProRes 422.
I was expecting to have to install Final Cut Studio 3, Final Cut Pro X, Compressor 4, and/or QuickTime 7 with the QuickTime Pro key; however, none of those applications are installed and I am able to create custom QuickTime Apple Pro Res422 Sequences in Premiere Pro as well as export using Apple ProRes 422.  After Effects and Adobe Media Encoder also show all the Apple ProRes variations.
Does CC 2014 eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422?  Is it something happening on the OS or QuickTime level that would affect CC or CS6 in the same way?
I've done a web search, but haven't really come up with anything other than older articles about needing to have FCP installed (and I typically work on systems with Final Cut Studio 3 installed as well as CS6, CC, or CC 2014).  If more detailed information is available, it would be great to be able to read up on it.
The system is a 21.5-inch iMac running Mac OS X 10.8.5, QuickTime Player 10.2, and Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 (8.0.0 - I know an update is available for PrPro, but it's not my system to make that change).
    Thanks in advance,
    Warren Heaton

    Hi Emil:
I use ProRes all the time as well, but I have Final Cut Studio on my workstations.
I had not come across MindPower009's YouTube video.  That explains how ProRes could be showing up without FCP or Compressor.
So, the answer to my question would be, "No, CC 2014 does not eliminate the need to have Final Cut Pro and/or Compressor installed to access Apple ProRes 422; however, if you are willing to be in violation Apple's terms of use, you can install the ProRes codecs anyway."
Even though MindPower009's YouTube video comments claim "FREE and LEGAL", it's clear from both the Apple download page and the ProRes codecs installer that Apple expects you to own at least one of their applications.
    Thanks again for the link!

  • Final cut pro x - Title changes are not saved!

    Dear Sirs,
I have a big project I am working on in Final cut pro x that contains about 300 subtitles (created with the basic title tool), and now when I make text changes to these titles, quit the program and open the project again those changes are gone....!!! This is a serious problem for me, any help concerning this would be greatly appriciated.
    Thank you,
    Oded

You might not have a compatible video card. It needs to be "OpenCL" compatible. What mac are you using, and what video card? This info is available using the "About this Mac" menu item; click "More Info" to get to the video info.

  • Final Cut Pro to work on two computers simultaneously?

I have two iMac computers running the same version and serial number of Final Cut Pro. But, only one computer can work with Final Cut at a time. I have to log out from FCP to be able to open FCP on the second computer. This limits our ability to work more efficiently on the same project. Is there a solution for this?

I think you're talking about Final Cut Pro 7. You need to ask your questions about that application on the Final Cut Studio forum.
No, there is no solution for you aside from taking the computers off the network.
P.S. If you are using two machines simultaneously you should purchase two copies of the software.

  • Macbook pro does not support Final Cut Pro preview on external monitor?

I have been editing on Final Cut Pro from my imac for approx 1 year with an external monitor attached with no problems. I recently bought a macbook pro, for Final Cut Pro editing, and discovered that the monitor does not work. The Final Cut Pro preview on the external monitor freezes and in the preview pane of FCP it flick between two images.
I have been reading around some forums, and have seen a couple of people with the same problem.
Anyone have a suggestion on how to run the external monitor with FCP?
    Thanks!

You have probably already done it but ensure you have updated the OS and Quicktime prior to attempting to instal Final Cut Studio.
I recently had a hard drive crash and after installing the new hard drive it would not read the OS installation disc. I ended up using an external drive case and installed the OS on the drive from a different Mac Book, then reinstalled the hard drive in the other Mac Book. Then it booted right up. I updated all the original software before attempting to install any additional software.
Everyone kept saying it wouldn't install due a possibly defective optical drive and I can't say why but it wasn't the drive. As soon as I had the system up and running again the optical drive functioned flawlessly.
    I hope this helps you.
