Final cut pro to quicktime to idvd

Ok, i did my project on Final cut pro 4 HD and put all the markers for chapters like i was supposed to. I then exported to a quicktime format. In quicktime, it read the markers and created the chapters, but when i imported the quicktime movie into iDVD 5, My chapters don't show up or work. I worked and worked, but i'm out of ideas, any help?

I spent my Christmas vacation battling this issue, except that my QT movies were reference movies from Avid Xpress Pro to which I added a chapter track, which iDVD 5 proceeded to ignore. I figured out that I could add a single 'kgit' atom to the moov and make it work.
I know, that sounds like Greek. Without the "r".
Here, I wrote it all up back in January--
http://capital2.capital.edu/admin-staff/dalthoff/qtchapters.html
What I learned is that once the QT movie has the magic atoms in it that make iDVD recognize the chapter tracks, it seems that all of those rules about where you can and cannot put your chapter markers in iMovie can be safely ignored.
There is a pre-release version of Metadata Hootenanny out there that will add chapter markers to a QuickTime movie AND set the atoms so that iDVD will recognize them properly. There is a link to it on my page (referenced above).

  • Exporting from final cut pro to quicktime

    hi,
i am trying to export my movie from final cut pro to quicktime. after exporting, the file is actually a final cut pro movie file, NOT a quicktime movie as intended. what am i doing wrong?
to export the movie as quicktime, i know i go to sequence>settings> set the settings and then go to file>export>quicktime. what am i doing wrong??? it seems so simple!
    thanks,
    farilee

You aren't doing anything wrong. It is still a quicktime movie, but set to auto open by FCP.
    Two things:
    (1) add a .mov extension to it.
    (2) select it in the finder, and do a get info. Change the Open With... to QuickTime Player.
    Make sense?

  • Final Cut Pro 7 Quicktime Codecs?

I found that Final Cut Studio 7 does not work properly in Mavericks OS X 10.9. FCP crashes, and iDVD doesn't burn. So I created a partition on my Mac Hard Drive and installed Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on the 2nd partition so that I could continue to use Final Cut Pro 7 and iDVD. I then installed Final Cut Studio, updated it, and my computer will not open HDV 1080p30 quicktime files. The files worked before updating to Mavericks, and they worked in Mavericks, but they don't in my new partition. Apple said that in the past you could download these codecs from Apple but they no longer have them. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks a bunch!
    Dan

I have run all the updates on 10.6.8 partition. I may try reinstalling FCP 7.
Thats good to know that FCP 7 does work on 10.9 for you. Its possible that my disk it faulty and the software just pushes it too hard in the new OS.
I was having one other problem with FCP 7 that I solved and would like to share. I was having trouble with the "Share to DVD" function. The files would process, but when I would insert a blank DVD, it said "The disc cannot be created because another application is using the drive." If anyone else has this problem, just go to system preferences, click "CD's & DVD's," and change "When you insert a blank DVD," to Open Finder. The DVD burned fine after that.
I never had trouble with FCP on 10.6.8 in the past but FCP 7 in 10.9 may be asking more from my hardware, and I think that is why its crashing. Until I can get that fixed, I am going to try installing FCP 7 again in my partition. If that doesn't work, any codec solution would be appreciated. Thanks X for the response!

  • How to Free up Disk Space to export from  Final Cut Pro to QuickTime?

I am using Final Cut Pro on a Mac OX10. When I try to export a Final Cut Pro project to QuickTime I get a message saying that I do not have enough disk space available. How do I free up additional disk space? (I am a little confused because I have already deleted more disk space than I am current trying to use)
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.7)
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Might try restarting the computer, just to refresh the system's memory... be sure you empty the trash too... the new space won't show up until you do.

  • Final Cut Pro (render) quicktime compressors

I have over 200 clips that I need to edit from my camcorder, and I don't have much space on my Mac for rendering. I recently leaned that to avoid rendering you can go into Sequence>Settings and then choose a compressor in the quicktime video settings, and all clips that use that compressor don't have to be rendered. The Clips are all Apple MPEG-2 SD that I imported onto my computer using iMovie'09. My mac can play these files perfectly, and I even had the MPEG 2 component before hand, but in Final Cut Pro in the sequence settings there is no "Apple MPEG-2 SD" in the compressor list. Is there anyway I can download one for FCP, or an alternative to avoid encoding/rendering?

MPEG 2 is a delivery format, not an editing format. You'll need to transcode those clips to a format that is FCP friendly first if you don't want to render after every edit.

  • Color (not the new app) differences in Final Cut Pro vs Quicktime?

Ok, so I have noticed this before but I am now working on a project in which this is a really big problem.
See, here is a screenshot from the video after export and then opened in Final Cut Pro:
    http://www.nathankboyd.com/Apple-Support/Final%20Cut%20Pro.jpg
And here is the same thing when opened with Quicktime 7.2.0:
    http://www.nathankboyd.com/Apple-Support/Quicktime.jpg
Why is this, and can I fix it?
My current project is not being put on DVD, so when it is viewed on a computer, it needs to look good. It also seems that anything that is quicktime based has the same color problems, which is not too surprising, ie: Keynote.
    Please help!

I have the same problem. The same movie look brighter in Quicktime than in Final Cut.
It's happen with H.264 and DV files. No problem with Pixlet files.

  • MPEG2 Output Final Cut Pro or Quicktime

Does anyone know if there is a plugin available or setting in Final Cut that will allow me to export my video as an MPEG2 file?
    Thanks,
    Michael Howard

    Hi
What version of Studio or FCP are you running?
Before FCP 5 it was included the MPEG2 export component inside Quicktime. From version 5 it was removed and you must use Compressor to encode MPEG2 files.

  • Final cut pro and quicktime both crashing!

    Hello
    I posted this topic before:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/18279503#18279503
I'm using fcp HD 4.5 and quicktime 7.6.6 on Leopard 10.5.8.  Final cut has been crashing, and now quicktime is crashing.  They are both dropping frames.  I am losing the ability to use flash player as well (for instance, I can't click on video links on facebook but I can still watch youtube).  Does flash player have something to do with dropped frames/crashing?
Also, someone suggested I upgrade to fcp 6 with quicktime 7.6.6 on Leopard.  They suggested ebay but does anyone else have any suggestions where I might find it?
    Thanks!

Shane & Dave answered your FCP/QT compatibility question in your other thread.
If QT itself is crashing and so is Flash, that would make me suspect something has gone wrong with your system (operating system, not necessarily the hardware).
If you recently installed or upgraded Flash, that could perhaps be a factor.  In today's environment, more & more Mac applications are Intel-specific and they could cause problems on a PPC Mac.  I cannot tell if that is the case for you, but it's something to be aware of if you continue to use a PPC Mac.

  • Saving in Final Cut Pro vs Quicktime

    Hi,
When I open a .mov file in Quicktime I can trim to selection and it will save the file very quickly. However when I open the same file in FCP and cut it to the same size and save it, it will take several minutes. Why is that?
    Thanks,
    Robert

Hi, sorry for the long response time.
Those settings (DV NTSC 29.97, 48KHz) are good.
Would it suit your needs to simply add markers to each video? Then you would have only one file per tape, but if you watch it in QuickTime or burn it to a DVD, you can jump between markers.
If that would work, then add markers in FCP, and export each video, using the "self-contained" option.
If you really need 50 separate files per tape, then I suppose I would use FCP. But 20 hours is a LOT of footage! That will take a very long time, any way you do it. And a LOT of hard drive space. For 20 hours of DV footage, I think it would be about 260GB.

  • Final Cut Pro exporting Quicktime movie and file size

I make short stop motion animations in FCP and usually when I export using current setting the file size is about 230MB for 60 seconds movie. However with the current project the exported quicktime movie file is only 32.1MB for 57 seconds movie. I don't think this is normal even though I set it with "current setting" and check off the make movie self-contained box.
How could I make the export setting back to normal so the exported quicktime movie will still be in high quality in a big file size?

    Hi Ian,
it looks clear and same quality as usual. Maybe this is just how it is.
I am still worried because I exported another project to test and this one also is now exported into reduced file size. This is a 60 seconds movie and when I last exported, FCP created a 225.2MB quicktime file and when I exported exactly the same project again just now it is only 22MB... again, this is not self-contained movies.
To be honest with you I am really not familiar with digital settings, and I was trying to figure out export setting for a required file size and aspect ratio etc. for a projection the other day and it has been since then that my FCP started exporting smaller size QT files.
My project is in 4:3 ratio and all images on video sequence are digital still images. If you could kindly point out some places to look at to make sure that the settings are correct, that might be helpful (?)
    thanks much!

  • New Final Cut Pro and Quicktime X

My IT guys installed my Snow Leopard. I have FCP Studio 3. I don't have QTPro any longer. Anyone else experience this?

I should be there is you elected to install it.
I think it goes in by default, but check as Meg the Dog says in Utilities.
The options for both Rosetta and QT7 occur in the customize area of the Installer of SL

  • Idvd in Final Cut Pro X

I do not have Final Cut Pro X as of yet, but I'm wondering, I do have iDVD & can I use iDVD in the current version of Final Cut Pro X?
If I have iDVD on my computer and also Final Cut Pro X on my computer will that appear in the share portion of Final Cut Pro X?
Kind of wondering before I purchase Final Cut Pro X.

No. iDVD won't appear as a Share option.
You don't have to decide now. Download the free FCPX trial and see over the next month whether it meets your needs.
