Final Cut Pro X and external hard drive problem

We are having trouble getting Final Cut Pro X to recoginse our external hard drive. It is works fine with i movie. We are very new to all of this and desperate for any help.
We have read a previous discussion that recommended we go to disk utilities and change format (currently saying windows ntfs) but worried if we either do "erase or partition 1 " we will erase everything off the external hard drive???

We only have the one hard drive and originally formatted it thinking we would use it on a windows computer. Is it strange that it is recognised on I Movie but not FC? If we change the format to MacOS Extended (journaled) we are worried if we apply this it will erase what we have (as says something about this)? We are non tech people and don't know what we are doing!!!

Saving Final Cut Pro on an external hard drive

Hi i was just wondering how you save a event from final cut pro on a external HD every time i do it it saves on my Macs SSD help.

Alternatively, if you are just creating an event, you can select the hard drive to use from the list at the top left corner of the Event Library.
In the shot below I clicked on the WD 2TB drive before selecting File>New Event, so the event was created on that hard drive.
Selecting where your projects go works in a similar way in the Project Library.

I believe there is no "Export to Tape" feature as appeared in legacy FCP.

Final cut isn't recognizing external hard drives

Just bought new version of Final Cut and it will not recognize the external hard drive that I plug into my usb or the extra hard drive that I had installed into my laptop to do video work on for more space. What is the problem here?

WWhat computer? What drives? How are they comnected? How are they formatted?

Final Cut Pro X and OS X Yosemite Problem

I have lost my Final Cut Pro X operstions and now it wont open at all since updating to OS X Yosemite?
I have tried the suggestions eg:

> Show Package contents

> Double Click on F.C.P.X
It then just comes up with the following?

Have you reinstalled Java, Java for OS X 2014-001, since upgrading to Yosemite? Opps. Java is required for Photoshop. Don't know if it's needed for FCP X but I doubt it.

ExpressCache 16GB mSATA SSD and external hard drive problem

I am hoping someone on the forum can help me.
I have a new W530, W7, with the ExpressCache factory installed.
It seems to work ok, and I have checked with the eccmd.exe -info command and it indicated everything is ok.
ExpressCache version 1.0.100.0 is installed.
However, when I connect a external USB 3.0 hard drive, after using the computer for about 15 minutes ExpressCache.exe will begin reading from the external hard drive and never stops. Sometimes it is very active, and other times it is less active. The external harddrive seems to continue to work ok and I can access the files on it.
What I would like to know is if this is normal behavior?
My concern is the wear and tear on the hard drive and especially that I cannot eject the hard drive so I can safely disconnect it. I get an error message saying cannot eject because the device is currently in use. So the only thing I can do is shut down the whole computer.
I have tried 3 different external harddrives, all WD USB 3.0, 1 TB. All act the same. I called Lenovo tech support, but unfortunately they did not know anything about ExpressCache. Their only suggestion was to update the drivers, which I did. Nothing changed. They suggested run a diagnostic on the SSD drive, which I did and said ok. Then their only other suggestion was to send the computer back. I emailed ScanDisk, the supplier of the SSD and ExpressCache. They did email me back but said that since it was a OEM installation, it was only supported by Lenovo. I tried disabling ExpressCache.exe in the start up menu, and then the external hard drives work normally. But of course I do not have the benefit of the cache that I paid for.
If anyone can help I would really appreciate it. I have tried to search with no success, but I have to believe I am not the only one with this situation.

My guess would be it has created an entirely new backup of your drive when you upgraded to Mavericks.

I wouldn't trust that backup.
Make sure the system is connected to AC and Do Over.

Macbook pro does not support Final Cut Pro preview on external monitor?

I have been editing on Final Cut Pro from my imac for approx 1 year with an external monitor attached with no problems. I recently bought a macbook pro, for Final Cut Pro editing, and discovered that the monitor does not work. The Final Cut Pro preview on the external monitor freezes and in the preview pane of FCP it flick between two images.
I have been reading around some forums, and have seen a couple of people with the same problem.
Anyone have a suggestion on how to run the external monitor with FCP?

You have probably already done it but ensure you have updated the OS and Quicktime prior to attempting to instal Final Cut Studio.
I recently had a hard drive crash and after installing the new hard drive it would not read the OS installation disc. I ended up using an external drive case and installed the OS on the drive from a different Mac Book, then reinstalled the hard drive in the other Mac Book. Then it booted right up. I updated all the original software before attempting to install any additional software.
Everyone kept saying it wouldn't install due a possibly defective optical drive and I can't say why but it wasn't the drive. As soon as I had the system up and running again the optical drive functioned flawlessly.

Photos and a few of the videos came over but i am missing the majority of the videos. Help please!!! I have tried omnidisksweeper with no success in finding them.
in my Usage it says i have over 40 gb of movies when i only have about 9gb which i can see using spotlight search. i really hope the other amount is my missing videos! these are videos of my kids as babies.

Read this post and do the migration again, putting the library in a portable shape first if necessary.

ok - since you'll be sharing it with a PC - connect it to your windows pc - then format from there - instead of NTFS format - choose exFAT.

once you've formatted it - you can now use it in both your macbook and windows computer.

Please Help - Time Capsule and External hard drive Issues

Recently, I switched from Comcast to AT&T uverse as my internet provider and I started experiencing problems.
(1) I have a 4th generation Apple Time Capsule which I am using as my router.
(2) Connected to the Apple Time Capsule - USB - is an external hard drive (not for backup with Time Machine.)
(3) I have a 2011 Macbook pro which I use to access my file on my time capsule and external hard drive.
(4) I had been using my AT&T portable Hotspot from my cell phone to get internet access on my MacBook pro from remote locations to gain access to my external hard drive which is attached to the time capsule.
(5) On August 2, 2014, I switched from Comcast to AT&T and had the AT&T turn off the router function. (I have been using the router from my apple time capsule)
(6) Under Network I switched to bridge mode.
(7) And since August 2, 2014 my time capsule has not been backup.
THE PROBLEM - I need to be able to use the hotspot function from my cell phone to gain access on the external hard drive using my MacBook Pro which I was able to do before. Now it is showing time capsule under finder but unable to connect.
Do I need to reset my Time Capsule since I have a new service provider. Everything else works fine - meaning able to get internet signal but unable to access my external hard drive and backup my time capsule. Please HELP.

If you got ATT to turn off router function in their modem..
Then 6. is wrong.. You cannot have the Network switched to bridge mode..
You must have it set to dhcp and nat.
That is also why you cannot backup.. the TC is off the network.
Please change back to router mode in the TC.
Ensure the internet tab shows dhcp and you create a wireless network.
Then power down the TC... power down the ATT modem.. wait about 20min (you can try 5min.. but it might not be long enough).
Power up the ATT modem.. wait 2min for things to flash lights in de right blinkin order.. then start the TC.
Open the airport utility and make sure your TC captured the public IP and is now working as the router.
That should fix that end of it.. the hotspot end??
Tell us what happens.
