Final Cut Studio 2: needing to update older version before install

I am trying to install FCS 2 upgrade from FCS, but it tells me I have an older version and that it "needs to be updated" before I can continue. The manual says that "To avoid compatibility issues, the Final Cut Studio installer requires you to update all Final Cut Studio applications to the version included with Final Cut Studio 2." I am not sure what this means, since I am just now installing FCS 2. I've read the messages here about upgrading from FCP 5.0.4, my FCP version, to 5.1 via a crossgrade on disks from Apple. Does this mean that I need to buy this crossgrade before I can finish the upgrade to FCS 2? This requirement is not listed on the FCS 2 box, but I can't seem to find anything else that would "update" my older version. And is this true for each of the other applications in the suite?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

No, you don't need to buy the crossgrade. I just updated the PPC version of FCS to FCS2 yesterday. (I had transferred these applications over to my new Intel Mac from a G5 even though I knew they wouldn't run on the Intel Mac until I could update with the Universal version). What I did end up having to do was to manually delete everything from the PPC installation (applications, preferences, application support files, etc.). Then install from the FCP2 disks, having your old FCP registration number ready to enter in the dialogue box that comes up when you try to upgrade. While the installer says you are upgrading, in fact it installs the new universal versions of the applications.

You can have them both on the same computer as I and many others have done for years.
Just go ahead and install FCS 3 normally.
There will be absolutely no problems.

  • Final Cut Studio - no access to Updates..

    hello,
I installed my copy of Final Cut Studio it runs well (except Motion2) but if I try to upgrade it to the latest FCS 1 version of the software the installer on the website asks me for my Apple ID - but I dont know which one I used for installing my company software - it's for sure not my personal Apple ID.
so how can I get info about the company Apple ID name that i might have used whe installing it originally?
please let me know - I still have to use FCP 5.0.1 - and there is a software update available even for FInal Cut Studio (not the 2nd version of it)
Please let me know - thnkas,
    roman

Your Apple ID is the same one you use to log on to these discussions.
You enter that first to get access.
Then you need your Final Cut Studio number to download.
Have you tried using "Software Update" ?

  • Java does not update older version when installing from MSI file

I'm using an MSI file of Java because it's easier for deploying through SCCM. Anyway when I do everything works fine except it does not update older versions of Java. So for instance if I have Java 7 update 7 and install Java 7 update 21 using the MSI file I'll then have two versions of Java installed on my computer. Anybody know a way to install using the MSI file where it updates older versions of Java (as long as it's the same major revision) like the exe would?

Yes same problem here. I had a successful rollout with the MSI package and version 1.7 Update 17 on 1500 computers!
I packaged the Update 21 and on my first test-clients the control panel crashes when I try to open it. But the setup ends successful without any error code all eventviewer entries are successful and it seems that the environment is running. Firefox plugintest was successful.
Why doesn't offer Orcale the MSI files?! Since last year Java cost me o lot of time deploying Java. There is no update which you can release quickly because there are always bugs to deploy them.

  • Do I need to uninstall academic version before installing retail version?

I've been using my academic version of Final Cut Studio professionally and decided that I would buy the retail version when Studio 3 came out. So I purchased the New Version and am about to install. Since this is a full version, and not an upgrade version, I'm wondering if I need to uninstall my academic version of Studio 2 first?

Read this thread for some great tips:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2113535&tstart=50
Your new full version should just overwrite the old one in any case, but Jerry and the others give sound advice in the thread linked above.

  • Final Cut Studio installer doesn't allow FCP to be installed?

    Hi all,
I've put a fresh copy of Leopard 10.5.4 on a dual g5 2.7Ghz with 4GB of RAM and hoping to install FCS2 onto it. Prior to doing this, I installed Logic 8 and Firefox - that's it.
When I installed Leopard, I wiped the drive so nothing is there. However, when I launch the installer, FCP is grayed out and I can't choose to install it. Does anyone have any ideas on what to do here?
    Thanks!

It's because you have to install FCP.
It only shows as an optional install when it is already on your drive (If you left something out the first time, then changed your mind).
Although grayed, it still has a check mark next to it, right?

  • Is it possible to install Final Cut Studio 2 with a MacBook 2.1 GHz 13.3in?

I just purchased a new MacBook and Final Cut Studio, but my computer won't let me install FCP 6. I think it is a graphics card problem. Is there something I can purchase or download to make it compatible, or do I need to replace computer or use an older version of FCP?
    Thanks
    Tara

    Hi Tara,
    welcome to the forums,
I beleive your MacBook comes with an integrated graphics processor.
Unfortunately FCP requires a separate graphics card see minimum specs in the link below:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs.html
Perhaps you can replace your MB with a MBPro as the latter is perfect for FCP6.
    Best,
    G.

  • TS1143 Final Cut studio for os 10.8

Is there a software update route to take so that my Final Cut Studio 2 will be updated enough to work on my new MacBook Pro 10.8 system?

    Michael Grenadier wrote:
...You can install fcp 6 (which is what I think is included in fcs2) if you install Rosetta from a SnowLeopard OS disk.  Some people here say that's not safe...
Michael: thanks for pointing that out, which is the next best course of action after not making the suggestion in the first place.
My research has led me to conclude that the "troublesome" installations seem to have been to Lion in its early (10.7 - 10.7.2) days and then corruption was introduced by the upgrade to 10.7.3 and beyond.  However, in time, installations in Mt. Lion may well cause problems such as the one we both read about in another thread that caused his Compressor to stop functioning.
However, having said that, I do not understand why Apple continues to even allow Rosetta to be attempted to be installed into Lion or Mt. Lion;  With all of the needed API's missing, there is just no valid function to Rosetta being in place in Lion or Mt. Lion, as is proven by the fact that no PowerPC app will function in Lion or Mt. Lion with just the attempt to make a naked install of Rosetta.
Jeremy Johnstone has isolated what he feels is the "bug" in the installer app in FCS2 on his blog and generally describes a method for using Text Edit to fix that bug and then the FCS2 installer functions property in Lion and Mt. Lion.
Since I do not own or have access to a copy of FCS2, there is no way I can attempt to interpret his suggestions and see if they can be translated to a step-by-step instruction process for OPs such as Dirks.
I have asked Jeremy to provide this step-by-step instruction set, but after an initial response from him, I have not heard from him in quite a while now.  A assume that he is a busy guy...
Since you do have access to FCS2 and seem genuinely interested in helping out, perhaps you could review Jeremy's blog on this subject and see if you can reduce it to a step-by-step instruction set:

  • About Final Cut Studio?

In Apple Final Cut Studio are you able to create Blends & Avatars in Apple Final Cut Studio, like if I Had a Picture of Britney Spears or Jennifer Lopez, I Can create a Blend & Avatar if I Had a Picture of them I Saved on the Internet? Can I Do that in Apple Final Cut Studio? just asking cause I Mite be getting it, Maybe?

Ok, this is Photoshop Elements (make sure it's a Mac version if you buy it on ebay):
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopel/?promoid=DJDWS
It is very inexpensive. Also make sure you get the latest version so it'll work on your 10.6.5.
Final Cut Studio is a video editing software - you edit movies, not pictures. So I don't think you can do what you want in creating an Avatar. As for blend, you'd probably need one of the more expensive Photoshop versions.
So, Final Cut Studio is for movies and Photoshop is for pictures or photos.
I just checked the recent prices for Final Cut Studio on ebay and the latest version has been selling for more than $500; the cheaper ones are either old versions (which will probably not run on your 10.6.5) or upgrades. For an upgrade, you need to have an older version already installed. Here is what the new FCS includes:

  • General Overview on How to use Final Cut Studio to create a Blu-Ray DVD

I am a new user of Final Cut Studio and need an experienced user to give my a progression guide on how to create a Blu-Ray DVD of my recent Alaska Trip. Last month I spend 8 days in Alaska visiting Denali and Juneau primarily. During that time I took about 100 short video clips (HD 1080p) and 570+ still photos with my Canon 7D. I have experimented with some pieces of the software and have created a Blu-Ray disk using Final Cut Pro and Compressor. However my goal is to create this DVD with menus that will play short clips (some narrated) and still photos(also some narration). I did a short one in DVD Studio Pro this morning but need some general guidance on what progression and programs to use to create this project. I was not able to take my video from the Studio Pro Sequence I created for my 1st DVD I had to take the original clips which were processed using Apple ProRes 422 and copy them in one at a time and then find the audio (on the voice overs) I created and also place them into DVD Studio Pro one at a time. I obviously need some guidance on the proper progression.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Here's the situation...
DVD Studio Pro will not do the trick for you - it doesn't do blu-ray discs. If you want to do Blu-ray you've got to use either Final Cut Pro's "Export" command or Compressor's "Burn Blu-ray disc" template. The downside to both of these approaches is that you can't burn more than one title (or movie, etc.) using Final Cut Studio.
To do what you want to do, you need Toast (at least). Toast will auto-generate menus but will let you put more than one title per slide (so you can put multiple slideshows on the same disc).
If you want to do full-on customizing of menus and multi-level menus, for that you need Adobe's Encore.
My suggestion - Get Toast. Encore is close to $800.
Here's your progression (at least the one I use).
Edit in Final Cut Pro (ProRes 422 is fine, ProRes 422 LT would do the trick as well)
Export as QuickTime movies (original settings)
In Compressor using the H.264 for Blu-ray setting and Dolby Digital setting and create elementary streams for video (.264 file) and audio (.ac3). Make sure these files have identical names except for the extension.
Using toast, add the video file to the Toast project and it'll find the audio file.
    Burn away!

  • Final Cut Studio (ver 1.0) won't install on brand new 2.8 ghz intel coreduo

I just bought a new 15inch MacBook Pro (4 GB memory) and went to install Final Cut Studio (ver 1.0) and then install the Final Cut Studio (HD) upgrade, but when I try to install Final Cut Studio (ver 1.0) I get this error: "Your computer does not have the hardware required to run this software. See the Read Me for details." All of the minimum requirements seem to be easily met, and I've run this old version of Final Cut Studio and the HD upgrade on my previous and older macbook, so I'm really confused on this error message. I can't find anything online. Anyone have any idea what is causing this hardware error?

I am getting the same message."Your computer does not have the hardware required to run this software. See the Read Me for details." I have FCP 5 and I am trying to install it on my new MacBook Pro. FCP 5.0 worked fine on my other mac and Im getting this message on my new one! any thoughts?

  • What's in the Final Cut Studio 2 Box?

I have Final Cut Studio 2.0.1. Retail version. I got it with a 2nd hand MBP I bought recently, and I plan to sell FCS2. I have no need for it, iMovie is fine for me.
But I don't have the big fancy box or manuals or ? included... what is meant to be in the box?
    I do have...
    - 9 installation CDs in the small black apple box.
    - Final Cut Studio Software License agreement.
    - 'Installing Your Software' documentation with serial numbers.
    - Apple Software 'Proof of Purchase' coupons.
If anyone has FCS2 and can tell me what I'm missing, I can advertise it more effectively and truthfully! Thanks.

Basically, you're not missing anything; most of the documentation is electronic. Click here for a complete list of the box's contents.

  • Un-installing FCP 5.0, DVDSP4 and SoundTrack - going to Final Cut Studio 5

I've just recieved my Final Cut Studio cross-platform upgrade.
I have stand-alone versions/upgrades of Final Cut Studio 5, DVD Studio Pro and SoundTrack.
Can I just install Final Cut Studio 5 and it will replace all my programs with current verions?
Or do I have to un-install all programs before installing Final Cut Studio? If so, how do I un-install them?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, you can just let them all be overwritten, it'll be fine. Some people like to keep older version of software around, but if you're not one of those, go ahead and do the default install.

  • MacBook/Macbook Pro and Final Cut Studio

I am about to buy a Mac, but im not sure if I should get the MacBook or MacBook Pro? Which is better suited for Final Cut Studio? Is there a specific version of the MacBook/MacBook Pro that would be best? Thanks so much!

Exactly. It will install, but if you have any problems and you need to call Apple, they won't give you any support. If you're going to spend $1,200 on some software, you should pay for a computer that supports the minimum requirements.
