Final Cut Studio 2 with Leopard and Quick Time 7.3
I tried to upgrade to Leopard and Quick Time 7.3 early part of November and had numerous issues with Final Cut Pro. I had to revert back to 10.4.10 and quick time 7.2. Based on several postings on the discussion board, many others had the same issues... Is anyone aware if fixes have been implemented that would allow me to upgrade successfully at this time...
Thanks in advance for your comments/feedback...
JBK
Thanks... That is the steps that I took when I originally tried to upgrade. After talking to Apple back in early November, appeared there was issues with Quick Time 7.3... They recommended that I convert back.. Just wondering if any fixes had been put into place that would allow me to go ahead and upgrade.... Based on your comments, I am assuming that other users are successfully using Leopard and Quick Time 7.3 with Final Cut Pro.... If that is the case, I am not sure why my system will not work properly with QT 7.3.....

Is Final Cut Studio with Final Cut Pro 5 still relevant and usable?
Is Final Cut Studio with Final Cut Pro 5 still relevant and usable? I bought it about four or five years ago and never started learning it, but would like to start learning editing now. Thanks.
That is the version I have. What formats can I work with in FCP 5.1. For example, can I edit movies from my Nikon Coolpix 7900 point and shoot that is about five years old? My Panasonic DV camera that is also about five or six years old? Will I be able to burn these types of footage to disc once edited and watch them on a DVD player. Thanks for your former replies.

How works final cut studio with lion?
how works final cut studio with lion?
The thing to take from FCPX is that it isn't an update/upgrade from 7. It's an entirely new editor. As a professional video editor myself for 5 years, I felt just as hesitant as you when I first saw what Apple had done. However, I committed myself to biting the bullet for a little while to get comfortable with the new workflow, and I can vouch for Apple's new move toward this type of setup. It has improved my workflow enough to where I can confidently say I deliver projects, on average, in half the time, with no sacrifice to quality.
Give it another chance, if you can afford it. With a bit of training, and time into using it, you'll see it's a superior editor to FCP 7 -
Hi,
I've just upgarde to Leopard, but i'm not really pleased with the performances of Final Cut Studio 2.
All the renderings of video with final cut are 2 to 3 times longer than with Tiger.
Motion 3 sometimes crashes.
I'm very surprised because i have a mac pro quad Xeon and i supposed that with a 64bit optimized OS, final cut would be faster Like for Photoshop. But it's not.
Does anyone has the same problem?
I just hope now that a next upgrade of FCS 2 will fix the problem...I am having the same problem (rendering a 2 hour video from DV to MPEG2 used to take about 4 hours in a "best 2 pass" setting under tiger.. now under leopard rendering a video of the same length from DV to MPEG2 under a "best 1 pass" is coming up on 4 hours) except i'm running Final Cut studio 1.5 (which has Final Cut Pro 5.1.4 and compressor 2). So now that Apple has Final Cut Studio 2 (Final Cut Pro 6 & Compressor 3) does that mean no more updates for Final Cut Pro 5? (just curious.. i plan to upgrade to Final Cut Studio 2 but not for another 3 - 4 months)

Final Cut Studio 2: Requirements and Recommendations
Hello Final Cut Studio 2 Experts,
I'm considering purchasing Final Cut Studi 2, and to make sure that I'll benefit from the full range of specific application (FCS/motion/color...) and I'd like to ask few questions (5 main points) regarding requirements and recommendations. So, please be prepared for much reading as I am not an expert on the matter. I like to know if my computer accepts any further hardware parts highly recommended and if I can purchase and install them myself. And yes, you should also know that I intend to use a Panasonic multi-format (HD/SD) camera for capturing and exporting videos.

Integration of Apple Final Cut Studio with 3D Animation Programmes
Dear all,
I would like to know which 3D Animation programmes for Macintosh have the ability to integrate with Apple Final Cut Studio 2 or vice versa. It's very important to design a 3D model with camera animation and import the scene -AS IS- into Motion or Shake.
- Which are the best practises followed?
- Which method appears to be more professional?
All responses are more than welcome.
Thank you in advance,
LazaroApple uses nothing more than Quicktime/Compressor to encode those videos. Compressor that comes with Final Cut Pro give a little more control to the video footage to ensure better quality. But, Compressor doesn't add to the quality of h.264 encoding. Compressor uses the same setup as Quicktime Pro.
And even if they use hardware base equipment to encode these videos. It's only for the fast encoding that hardware encoders can give you. I read something on the internet a few months back from the guy who encodes these videos for Apple. He stated that he uses Compressor and Quicktime for the encoding.
Here is the answer to why these video look amazing. Not only these videos, Apple also encodes the movie trailers on their site. The secret is, they are given the best and I mean best quality originals to start with... Videos shot on $25,000-$100,000+ cameras. And the trailer footage given to them by the movie companies are hi-end transfers from film.
We could sit here and debate on what Apple actually does to encode these video. But the bottom line is to start by using the best footage you can obtain. And then go from there... -
Will Final Cut Studio 2 HD and FCP 7 Upgrade load on newest OS?
I have Final Cut Studio HD and an FCP 7 Upgrade on my old system. Looking to buy a new iMac and wondered if I could load Studio 2 and FCP 7 on the newest OS?
Any insight is appreciated!Forgot to mention, although it will install it isn't officially supported by Apple anymore. Just in case someone jumps in to point it out.

Updating Final Cut Studio 2.01 and workflow between FCP and AE
Hi. I am currently working in FCE 3.5 and am considering purchasing Final Cut Studio 2.01 (new and sealed) as opposed to the latest version since I am running a PowerPC G5. Am I assured of being able to download all the updates for Final Cut Pro 6 and exactly which version would be the latest and final one? Was there ever an FCP v6.5? I do mainly animation/motion graphics and work in After Effects (along w/ Flash, Carrara, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.). I understand that the workflow between FCP (as opposed to FCE) and AE is greatly enhanced. Can someone give me an idea of what advantages this new workflow will offer in terms of what I'll be able to accomplish that I can't do now w/ FCE? Also, any other comments on how FCP (as compared to FCE) will benefit me as an animator will be greatly appreciated. Lastly, am I correct in assuming that I will be able to open my FCE 3.5 project files in FCP 6 but not visa versa? Thanks. Jack.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I see that I will need some 3rd-party support in order to realize the benefit of a Final Cut Pro/After Effects workflow. Have another question. What are the kinds of filters that you can keyframe in FCP but not in FCE? And are there many filters in FCP that are not included w/ FCE? As I deal mainly w/ animation as opposed to footage of live video I am trying to justify the investment in Final Cut Studio 2 in terms of it being a benefit to me as an animator. I currently use FCE 3.5 (which includes versions of SoundTrack and LiveType) and After Effects CS3 plus other graphics programs. I would love to be able to work within DVD Studio Pro as iDVD is so limiting as an authoring program but am not sure how much I will benefit from switching from FCE to FCP. This is what I am trying to nail down.

I have created a movie in Final Cut Express 4 using videos and still photos of various aspect ratios and resolutions. Some of the photos are verticals. When I try to use File>Export>Using Quick Time Conversion, my images end up being stretched horizontally when the video is finally processed. I have tried preserving the aspect ratio but the video still ends up stretched horizontally. What should my settings be in Quick time conversion? I just want to make a video for YouTube.
Thanks. -BobIf you shoot in one of the following modes you should be able to Log & Transfer directly into FCE:
HD: 1920x1080/60i (FX or FH mode)
HD: 1440x1080/60i (HQ or LP mode)
SD: 720x480/60i
1080/60p (PS mode) seems to be the default mode in your camcorder. FCE only supports progressive video in 720p50 or 720p60. That's probably why you have had to import via iMovie.
It would be better to upgrade to Final Cut Pro X, the version currently supported. FCE was discontinued over 18 months ago and is not supported on Lion or Mountain Lion. -
Exporting a final cut pro movie to a quick time
I'm trying to export a final cut movie from Final Cut Pro 5.1 to a Quick Time, this is a 2 hours movie and after couple hours it converts my movie into 13 Quick Time files (2GB each) instead of just 1 file of 25 GB.
Do you thing that I have to change any settings or is it any other way that I can get just 1 QT file? What is your export codec?
Isn't there a 2 GB limit for MPEG-2 format?
What is your goal? Where will the file be viewed or used?
A 2 hour DV file would also be about 25 GB's. Use DV Stream as your export codec if it fits the source file and your needs. -
Final Cut Studio 2(Color) and AGP graphics cards
So I have ordered FCS 2 for my business(Videography with HDV cameras).
I am on the 2.0 Ghz G5 with dual processors and a 23' Apple Cinema Display.
The computer came with the ATI 9600 Pro Radeon card.
All the technical requirements for Color are PCI slotted busses. So it looks like I am at a dead end if I wish to use Color??? (Some people said that the AGP x800XT might work ok, but this is not verified, and who knows what the performance would be anyway).
A new computer is the only practical solution?Read further down the page:
Application-Specific Requirements

All the original poster has to do is buy a new graphics card, that's it. -
Final Cut Studio 3 installed - and in FCP and Motion, video comes out white
My system meets all the requirements, I've got QT 7.6.4 (and it is pro registered). I did a fresh install of FCS3. When I load anything into an FCP project, the audio plays but video just comes out white (with the exception of an mpg I tried bringing in that did show properly). Also, in Motion, when I load a template, it shows drop zones but all of the graphics are not visible, even when going into "layers".
The video is QT clips and FCP movie (QT exports) from previous work in older versions. It does play fine in QT, so that's not the problem. I also checked and indeed RGB is selected, so it's no an alpha problem.
When I import an mpg, it shows fine in the Viewer. When I import a jpg picture into a new project, it shows as a multicoloured rough image. Video clips just show as white. If I drag that jpg down to the timeline, it shows as White in the Canvas. -
Final Cut Studio/Snow Leopard - 32v64 bit computing etc
a bit off topic but, very interesting:
http://arstechnica.com/apple/reviews/2009/08/mac-os-x-10-6.arsWhat attitude have I shown here? I said that FCP 5.1 doesn't work well in SL, and that you really need to go back to a version of the OS where it works. I didn't call you a moron for doing so in the first place. I did say that you really need to research this stuff before you leap in...well, that is true. If you want a good solid working edit system, you really need to know what works and what doesn't. Just installing things and hoping they work is what causes a lot of problems. Just saying that you need to look before you leap...and I meant it in a polite way.
So the footage was DV/NTSC on the old system, and worked fine? But now that you are running SL and 5.1 on that, they are all messed up? Well, SL has a lot of issues with older media and older project stuff, because the OS redesign. I highly suggest getting your system into proper working order before you start messing with media that was fine before.
The main cause here is the OS. You need to remove it and get to a working and supported OS for your version of FCP.

Using final cut pro with slowmotion and greenscreening
I want to create a video that has a person moving in regular speed, but i want the background which is filled with people moving in slowmotion or fastmotion. The only thing i can think of if shoot the film with all the people then use a green screen to overlay the person into the scene and then adjust the speed that way....any other suggestions?
