Final Cut with Photoshop touching up

I asked previously how I could use a tool like photoshops heal tool for video. I was told I could actually just use Photoshop. I was wondering if there was any down sides to doing this? I just want to fix a few troubled spots on some shots. Is there a quality loss?
What is the easiest way about this? Should I just go export quicktime? Touch up then export back to video and put in Final Cut? Will I lose much in terms of quality? I'm dealing with HDV footage that was 1080i60 natively from the camera but was converted to 24p with DVfilm. Thanks!!

any down sides to doing this?
Not being able to see your frames in sequence is a definite downside. It's all too easy to make a good looking retouch job on a single frame, but you need to see how it relates to the other frames.
You might think you are hitting the right spot, but when you run the video as it was meant to be seen, the mistakes become very obvious.
The procedure:
Export from FCP to QuickTime > Export from QT as an image sequence (TIFF format - dont forget to make a folder for the sequence first) > Retouch and save > Import to QT to reassemble the image sequence > Become frustrated at reading my instructions > Give up > Go to Apple dealer and buy Shake instead.

  • Final Cut with new Macbook Air -what can I expect?

    Hi, I have the 2011 MBA 13", 4gig ram, i7, 256g SSD.
My hope is to use the latest Final Cut with the internal SSD drive to edit basic music videos and music interviews.
A typical project will have multiple angles filmed from a few DSLR's that I want to cut between, along with stereo music and one or two dialog tracks.  We're not doing any fancy digital tricks or trying to look cutting edge with technology -just fades between cuts, running some text on the screen.  The audio will be premixed in Pro Tools to Stero music + 1 or 2 spoken word mono tracks
I can save the final projects via the USB port to external hard drives, but for portablility I'd like to be ablle to work on the internal SSD.
Oh, and maybe someday someone will make something I can plug this Thundbolt cable into, lol.
    Is this realistic?

I would look for answers in the Final Cut Pro X forum.  Good luck.

Filming on a Panisonic 24p camera but I imported it into final cut with a Sony HD camera. Will this mess up the quality of of my shots when I ad slow motion? I have noticed that the slow mo is a little chopy. PLEASE HELP!....

24p is captured with your standard "DV-NTSC" easy setup, whereas 24pA is captured with the "DV-NTSC 24p (23.98) Advanced Pulldown" easy setup. Correct me if I'm wrong I still have yet to work in 24pA.

  • Final cut to photoshop to after effects back to final cut problem

    Hello there,
    I shall explain my problem.
I am working with three different programs. Finla cut 7, photoshop, and after effects.
I have taken a jpeg still from final cut to work in photoshop.
In phtoshop I have layered a project to work in after effects to make an animation.
The animation is then exported back from after effects into final cut.
When I do this I realise that the dimensions of the animation differs from the original sequence from where the still was taken.
    I work with PAL.
The still from the sequence is 768 x 576. I create a still using 'export- Using quick time conversion'. I do not understand why the image obtained does not have the format 720x576 as it says the film sequences have in final cut pro settings.
When I edit it in photoshop, I create an image that has the 'film-video' setting but the image still does not match the frame. I have noticed there was the setting PAL1/DV square pixel but it still does not match the original format after editing in after effect.
    Why is this?
    Thank you

    Hello mylenium,
Thank you very much for the link.
I now manage to have the same image size when working in final cut.
I hope you do not mind me asking another question. I seem to lose a little bit of resolution. Could this be because i transfer an image worked onto photoshop to after effect and then back to final cut?
I have changed the file dimension before importing it into after effect (from 768x576 to 720x576) and i export the after effect file using quick time in the setting, thus reimporting a .mov file into final cut.
    Thx
    Best

  • Importing FCP Hi Rez from Final Cut with Encore Destination

I wonder if i could get some advise and comment on trying to get the best Blu Ray encode from Final Cut.
What I have done is this:
I have imported a 60 minute Quicktime FCP file into Premier CS4. (The file was imported as HDV video from a Canon XHA1 and converted in FCP to 422Hi Rez). I set Premier to HDV and not Quicktime before the import. When the import finished, I notice that playback was very jerky, so I rendered the whole time line. This took about 5 hours. Following this, play back was perfect.
So, what should my settings have been initially....might I have not set everything correctly. What settings should I have set initially?
(I have not figured out how to export a sequence directly from FCP which 4.01 is supposed to do.)
Now that it is play fine in Premier CS4  4.01, I am planning to use the dynamic link system to export into Encore CS4 .01 .  But before I do so, do I have to fill out copyright info in Premier...I noticed an area for this?
I chose this work flow because I did not want to use the FCP's Compressor for make a Blu Ray. I want to use Encore's H264 compression which produces a smaller file and thus less disc space. I do understand that I could have left out Premier altogether and gone directly from Compressor to Encore, but then I would not have had the H264 choice..;is this right...I am not entirely au fait with all the terms:)
So far, no crashes or weird behaviour. I am on a MacPro  Quad Core  2 Porcessor  2.8 GHZ processor.
    Tim

Thanks for the advice. I now have the project in Encore. While it played perfectly in Premiere, it cannot do so in Encore. Maybe this is because I have the settings set to the highest resolution- 1920 x 1080 and Blu Ray NTSC. I am trying to set up chapters and it is very jerky trying to get to the right place. Shou/ld I be doing this at a lower resolution and then changing things at the end?
Also I currently have DVD Transcode set to automatic and Blu-ray Transcode set to Automatic.
Are these settings going to look at the best on a 54" Samsung HDTV  1080i  ?  I notice a whole slew of choices in the drop down!!
I am ploughing through the Lynda.com tutorials, but some of these questions don't seem to be answered there.
I am planning on saving things to hard drive so I can test before burning...is this feasible on a mac?

  • Problem with Photoshop Touch

    Hi,
I use Photoshop Touch ver. 1.5.1 on an Android 4.1.2 device and Ps CS6.
The problem is: the Pictures from Photoshop (psd-files) are not displayed on PS-Touch?
I save the picture on two ways: in the cloud and on th sd-card.
    What is the Problem?
Can you please tell me what I have to do.
    Thanks Dietmar

I don't think PSDs are recognized locally (on the SD card); I haven't tried it. They are, however, recognized when imported from Creative Cloud (but remember that they'll be flattened if any layers exist).
Can you see them and/or not import them? If you see the name but not the actual image, give it a bit; sometimes CC needs to do some mojo before displaying the image.
Interestingly, even though it's not mentioned, RAW files are able to be imported to PS Touch via Creative Cloud. (At least mine are; they're RAF files from my Fujifilm X-S1.) Very neat. (You can't work with them like you can in, say, Camera Raw or Lightroom, but it's still kind of nice to be able to access them.)

  • You can use the final cut with macbook air 11 x 4GB with external hard drive

I can install and use the final cut X, with macbook air 11", 4GB with an external hard drive, and them transfer to the mac pro

No, not directly. You would need to transfer your data from your iPad to your Mac and then back it up to an external drive.

  • Final cut and photoshop

I want to use photoshop to do 3D black&white photos, as per Robert Evans doc. Since I've never used Photoshop, which version is best for that 3D effect. Final product will be 4 minute FCP7 video. Not sure how Photoshop integrates with FCP as it is part of Adobe edit software.

Thanks, don't have Photoshop and rarely would use it, there's Photoshop Elements which is more affordable for me, can it do that 3D effect (what's it's proper title?). I use Picassa, MS Publishing and a few others so I should be able to play with Photoshop?

  • Using Final Cut with external USB 2.0 drive

I use Final Cut Studio on a 2-year old MacBook Pro. The MacBok Pro has Firewire 800 and but only USB 2.0. I've been using an external Firewire drive with it for storing my movies. Now it is full and I need to get another external drive. However the new drives I've seen tend to be only USB.
My question: Will it be a problem to use Final Cut using USB 2.0? (The new drives are USB 3.0, but the computer is only 2.0). Will I be able to edit movies that are on the extenal drive? Or will I need to store the "in-progress" movies on the computer, and then move them to the external drive when I'm done with them.
And when I ask "will I be able to" I mean doing it without seeing endless beachballs...
(Also, if the response is "get another FW drive," then any suggestions as to which one?)
    Thanks!
    Dan

    DanK wrote:
Let me make sure I understand this: If I store completed movies on the USB drive, I should have no problem viewing them, as long as I have no other external USB devices connected to the MacBook.
You can use the USB drive for archiving projects but as said before you shouldn't edit with one. While the nominal maximum speed for USB 2 and FW400 is not that far apart the two protocols work differently. USB 2 achieves the max speed in "bursts" which is not what you want for video.
    DanK wrote:
However for editing movies, I should have them on either the FW drive or on the computer itself.
Is that correct? Will it work to edit movies on the FW-400 drive, or should they be on the computer itself?
While you can have the project file itself on your system drive, all the media files should be on external drives. This way your system drive gets to run the software and the external keeps the media and renders.
    DanK wrote:
And if I get a new FW-800 drive, will I be able to edit movies stored on that (i.e. will I see a difference between FW-400 and FW-800?)
FW800 is definitely faster. See a comparison here: http://www.barefeats.com/hard70.html

  • Final Cut with Leopard

Am considering moving from Tiger to Leopard. What issues will I encounter with Final Cut 5 ? Will it and Studio 2 function correctly? Thanks

Well, that is not the way to go when you have an editing system. If you use this to make a living, you gotta stick with the OS that the NLE was designed for. I often find myself in front on an Avid running OS9. FCP 5 was designed for Tiger...Tiger is solid. 10.4.11 is darn stable. Stick with that.
And there are other backup programs out there, like SUPER DUPER...also backs up in an automated way.

  • Getting started with Photoshop Touch

I have never used any version of Photoshop so my first experience with PS Touch has been somewhat difficult.I cannot locate the completed files from my projects on my sd card. The lack of written documentation has hindered my progress and the tutorial videos seem to assume a basic knowledge of the tools within the application. I can see that PS Touch is a very powerful application and will fill my needs for photo editing and allow me to make wallpapers for tablets if I can just get the basics down. Surely there is some form of written documentation I can obtain to assist me in becomming proficient with the program. So to get to my questions: (1) where does PS Touch store project files (specific directory). (2) What format are the files stored in? (3) where can I locate basic instructions concerning the various tools and their uses?
Answers to these questions will allow me to take full advantage of this app. Thanks in advance, Moshe

    Hi,
The internal PS Touch file are stored in the application folder - which can only be reached by PS Touch according to the Android Security model.
The internal format for PS Touch is PSDX.
You can also export the files (PNG/JPG) to the Camera Roll - which end up in the Adobe Photoshop Touch folder (you can see it in the Gallery).
You can however share the document as a PSD, JPG or PNG if you use the "Share by Email".
If you want to upload the files to the Adobe Creative Cloud you can chose between the three latter ones as well as the PSDX.
Concerning the instructions - at the moment there is no specific information about all the tools. If you run them through a search engine you will probably get some more help.
You can try to use the tutorials to get somewhat more familiar with some of the tools, they show a step by step workflow.
If you would experence problems please let me know.
    thanks,
    Ignacio

  • Final Cut and Photoshop CS3 extended

I've searched google and had no luck with this whatsoever.
I've opened an exported video sequence into Photoshop CS3 extended. (MOV, HDV 1080i60) In FCP6 the sequence had a time code of 0:02:03 whereas in Photoshop CS3 it is recognized as 0:02:02. It seems as if Photoshop is dropping a frame. Regardless, looking over my original MOV and the open Photoshop document I only have 51 total frames.
This looks like Photoshop and FCP6 see frames differently. When I export my video from Photoshop, Quicktime sees all 51 frames still there. When I pull the video back into FCP6 the timecode for the sequence is now 0:02:02 (just like Photoshop sees it) and it drops the last frame.
The frame is there! I can see it when I go over the video in Quicktime. For some reason FCP6 is refusing to show that last frame and will only display a timecode of 0:02:02 for that clip!
What am I to do? How do I get FCP6 to show that last frame?
    Thanks heaps, in advance.

"I've opened an exported video sequence into Photoshop CS3 extended. (MOV, HDV 1080i60)."
do you mean you've imported an Image Sequence (movie exported from FCP as individual image files eg- tiffs)...
"In FCP6 the sequence had a time code of 0:02:03 whereas in Photoshop CS3 it is recognized as 0:02:02."
Where in Photoshop are you reading timecode??? Or are you just counting the individual images?
"It seems as if Photoshop is dropping a frame. Regardless, looking over my original MOV and the open Photoshop document I only have 51 total frames."
If the original movie was at 1080i60, and your clip is 02 seconds and 2 frames, that would imply you should have at least 60 images (29.97 (drop-frame?) / 30fps x 2 seconds)
"This looks like Photoshop and FCP6 see frames differently. When I export my video from Photoshop, Quicktime sees all 51 frames still there. When I pull the video back into FCP6 the timecode for the sequence is now 0:02:02 (just like Photoshop sees it) and it drops the last frame."
    Now i'm really confused...
"The frame is there! I can see it when I go over the video in Quicktime. For some reason FCP6 is refusing to show that last frame and will only display a timecode of 0:02:02 for that clip!"
Yup... you got me... I have no idea... I think there is a non-dropped-frame timecode conflict in the Image Sequence(?) export from FCP and way PS is interpreting these images...
I have the good fortune of working in PAL-land, so I'm not too knowledgeable on what i think is your problem... hopefully someone from NTSC-land will chip in and help you out.

  • Final Cut With SSDs: experiences or opinions?

    Hi all,
I'm looking to get a new MacBook Pro, and I'm swithering as to whether to go trad drive or solid state. I have (of course) read any number of opinions pro and con on any number of sites, and as such I am none the wiser.
Is anyone using FCS on the MBP with solid state? If so - what do you think?
    Cheers,
    d

FCP will be running off the boot drive. A solid 7200 rpm is more than sufficient for booting FCP.
I really can't see any benefit to running FCP off a SSD over a SATA at 7200.
The benefit can be in a SSD external SATA media drive.
