Finally upgrading... safest version of Tiger to run Logic
I'm finally upgrading to Pro 7 from Express 6. Will Logic Pro 7 work under 10.3.9, or am I finally forced to install Tiger?
If so, which is the safest version to update it to?
And are there any vitally necessary tweaks (like disabling spotlight and dashboard, which I might do anyway) to increase system performance and kill nonstop hard drive access (for indexing).

I can't speak for Logic's performance on 10.3.9, but regarding Tiger, which version os OSX is the "safest" is an impossible question to answer; however, people have their preferences about which vers. of OSX to run, and mine are 10.4.3 or 10.4.5. I'm currently on 10.4.5.
Do a search on this forum for "10.4." and look for other posts on this subject. Many people have posted their experiences with various versions of OSX and Logic very on the heels of various Tiger releases.
But there is one incontrovertibly important bit of software that must be installed (and which, surprisingly, doesn't come with LP) and that is ProApps 3.1 (available on the Apple website -- do a search). If this is not installed, expect Logic to behave badly. Very, very badly.

The G4 at 1.25 is the slowest mac that meets that but that has a memory speed of ddr 333.
If you put in the 1 Ghz g4 upgrade it will drop the memory speed to 66 which will kill your latency.
It will probably install and run but you will either have pops and cracks or have to set it to a 1 second buffer.
The video card is overkill as well. You wont see that much a difference unless you try to play 3D games on it, but in that case the fact that it is on the PCI bus will be the bottleneck.
If anything get one of those hacked nVidia 5200 cards so you can at least get core graphics going and take a few of cycles off the CPU.
Usually when an app. bounces in the dock and doesn't start its because there is not enough memory. If the app sees that parts of itself are getting loaded into virtual memory it will stop. -
I have Adobe Photoshop CS4 and have just upgraded my Mac operating system to Yosemite with the newest version of Java 2014 running. When I try to access Photoshop from Bridge or directly open it asks for a Legacy Version of Java 6. As I am a pensioner I cannot afford an upgrade does anyone know of a work-around for this problem?

I own Final Cut Pro 6 and have been running it on an older G4 tower. I upgraded to a MacPro tower and the app will not install. I get a message "Not supported on this computer" cannot believe this. Help anyone.

When I try to upgrade and install to iOS 5.1, error message prompt "operation stop running". I have tried several time but failed. Also, would like to know why always need to have wifi access in order to upgrade the version of iPad iOS, what is the purpose of 3G then? This is really nonsense using wifi + 3G iPad. need help ! The file is too large to download via 3G. There is a 20MB limit with 3G. The purpose of having 3G is that you have internet access everywhere and do not need to be near a WiFi hotspot or network.
Not every single thing that you do every single minute of the day on the iPad involves downloading files larger than 20MB. You can surf the internet all day long sitting out in a park somewhere with 3G - but not with a WiFi only iPad - unless you use a hotspot with it.
Try turning off your firewall and anti virus software while you try to download the iOS update. -

Sometimes the updater gets confused, so in this case, your best option is to go to [http://www.getfirefox.com www.getfirefox.com], and download and install Firefox 11 from there. You can just do it over your current install and non of your personal data will be touched.

if you have an Aperture 3 upgrade key, you will need all previous serial numbers (Aperture 1, your upgrade key) to unlock the trial again.
I recommend to make sure you have a working backup of your complete system, before you upgrade. Does Aperture 1 still run? Then also create a vault of your library and repair your library, like recommended.
Run the installer, it will give you Aperture 3.1, then immediately upgrade to the current Aperture version with Software update. If you could not repair your Aperture library while still on Aperture 1, do it, when you launch Aperture 3 the first time. Hold down the ⌥⌘ key combination, while double clicking Aperture to launch into the Library First Aid panel. Select "Rebuild database" from the panel.

Can't run installer - says can't upgrade current version of ipod
I have been trying to update iTunes. I have the most recent version, and the most recent software on my ipod (5th Gen. ver. 1.1.2 and am using the 6/28/06 updater). When I click on the downloaded file, I get the message "This installation cannot directly upgrade the version of ipod software found on this computer.Please uninstall the software and try again." Last night I went to "Remove programs" and removed all the ipod software. Still got the message. I then did a file search and removed anything I found with ipod, and went into msconfig and unchecked anything ipod. I still got the same message when I tried to update. I went back and installed the last (6/28) updater again so I could use my ipod with itunes again until this is figured out.
Any ideas?

I was having the same problem. I went into Control Panel and repaired quicktime, and now i am able to open itunes. hope this works for you!

im on os x 3,9.
Im getting to the point where i need to move onto os x 10.4 with some software i want to use.
What are my options ? :
1. What should i move on to Tiger - Leapord - whats suitable for my emac 800mhz?
Also am i limited to only upto a certain upgrade eg 10.4.3 or can i go upto 10.4.9 and onto leapard?
2.. Should i buy and install tiger on an external hd partitioned volume ? If i cant why not , because isnt it the same as cloning an internal ? If i could, the logic is i could keep my panther on the internal and also access a tiger OS on the external. this is a good solution for me.
3. I'm confused about all the different operating system install discs & pc compatability - am i right in thinking i need ANY PPC install dvd version - can i get these from anywhere ?

dApple has yet to formally release the minimum specifications for Leopard, and anyone who really knows what are likely to be the final specs would be under a non-disclosure agreement, so no one can say for sure if your eMac will run Leopard or not (although there rumors about greater than 800 MHz CPU clock speed, so I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Leopard with a 800 MHz model).
Tiger is available in two ways: as a retail black-label DVD for PPC Macs meeting Tigers minimum specs (this includes all eMacs), or model-specific gray-label discs for late model PPC and Intel Macs. The model-specific discs cannot be used to install on any other models --- Apple is in the business of selling the OS, after all. Whatever version OS is on the retail Tiger DVD, you can use the OS X Update Combo 10.4.10 (PPC) to get up to the latest version of Tiger.
If your external HD is formatted as Mac OS Extended, you can install Tiger onto a partition and switch between Tiger and Panther using Startup Manager. One cavet: Tiger makes changes to it's boot disc to support additional disc attributes; once you use a disc to boot Tiger, you cannot readily revert that disc back to an earlier OS without erasing and reformatting it. Also, any utilities, especially disk utilities like OnyX, that you use should be updated to Tiger-compatible versions (see e.g. Only use Mac OS X 10.4-compatible disk utilities with Mac OS X 10.4 volumes).
The first boot after upgrading will likely involve a double start as a firmware update is pushed through as well, so don't be surprised to see the screen go blank after the first start. Also, the first start upder Tiger will take longer than usual, with subsequent starts being much faster.

I've now installed the ad blocker, thrown away the unwanted files, and thrown away a copy of Firefox that Adware said had a problematic extension.
Things are better, but still slow.
Activity Monitor shows that with just Mail, Chrome and Excel running, 2.9GB of my 4GB RAM is used. Opening InDesign (always slow) increase that to 3.2GB. But the graph stays green.
Console shows several potential problems but I don't know if any are significant. In any case I will call my Mac store tomorrow to ask their advice about RAM.

Cannot install or deinstall upgrade to version 5
I am running Firefox 4.01 on my desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate.
Almost everyday Firefox comes up with a "This is embarrassing..." message. more or less independently of what sites I have visited. Don't you think it is time you did something about this problem?
On a second desktop, running XP SP3, I resisted for a long time the pestering to upgrade, but finally, having lost the important menu bar" File---History--- Menu---Help " , I downloaded Version 5.
When I ran the installation program, however, the program froze while checking the compatibility of add-ons.
So I de-installed Version 5 via the control panel, and under "Add and Remove Programs" Firefox is not now listed there.
However, it is still listed under Startup Programs, the properties showing it is in C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\Firefox.exe, though not showing which version.
Under Program Files I find listed Version 5. 0.1. 4205. Clicking on this program either under Startup files or Program files has no effect.
Yesterday I tried to submit feedback under" Firefox makes me sad".
I was asked to include the URL of the site with the problem. I find it amazing that Mozilla does not know its own URL!
When I clicked "Submit Feedback" nothing happened.
The same happened again today, so I am now trying the "volunteer" service, as it seems direct technical support from Mozilla is non-existent.
To add insult to injury my log in password was not recognized and a further delay has resulted from having to reset it.
I have now installed Chrome on my XP desktop.
I also have a netbook running version 4 of Firefox, also persistently pushing for me to upgrade to version 5.
But until my Mozilla problem on the desktop machine is fixed I do not plan to take any action with the netbook.
I also find it irritating that I cannot simply send an email, but have to fill in a form which does not appear in my Outlook sent mail, but has to be cut and pasted so that I can keep a copy of my message.

Your carrier is being silly. They can help you and if they cannot, they should offer (or you should ask) to have the issue escalated to RIM technical support.
I don't understand what settings are supposed to be changed after I do a factory reset and restore from backup.
A "factory reset" and "restore from backup" are two different things. What do you need help with here?
Is it possible version 5 doesn't work with Orange at all?

What is the relationship between these things:

Could you please ask specific questions about the above four things?
The first tells you how to downgrade your device OS and I don't see where your headed with the remaining three

Upgraded to version 7.3 - Library file can not be saved - Unknown Error-50
I upgraded to version 7.3 and now I get a pop up error message that says the I Tunes library file can not be saved. The program reports an unknown error occurred (-50). The Pop up error message comes up every minute or so or any time I click on any item in ITunes.
I tried to contact Itunes and they sent me a link to this forum. Can someone please tell what to do to fix this problem or how to reach a real person at Itunes tech support?

Many ppl are having this problem (myself included). I finally had to downgrade to 7.2 from a backup I had made earlier. 7.2, so far, hasn't caused me any problems so I'm waiting for 7.3.1.

I want to know if it is possible to re-direct the output of the list command in rman to an external file. reason beeing that in rman, when ai issue the command rman> list backup summary, I get a hell of infos (as mai db is arround 1.2T and we have ap
