Financial Reporting - Dynamically populate Prior Year

Hi,
I need assistance on building one of the user reports.
The report needs to provide data for the last 11 months including the current selection. For example, if the user selects "Sep" period, the report should give data from Oct 08 to Sep 09.
The Period dimension in the report is set to the "Current point of view" and Year is set to Current year (2009).
I have used the relative function to offset and populate the period. However, as in the above example when the data is needed for Oct, Nov and Dec "2008" the year still remains FY09 and thereby shows wrong data (Oct 09, Nov 09, Dec 09 data).
Is there a function or any other way available in Studio to dynamically change the year to prior year when Period hits Dec?
Or is there any other way of populating 12 months prior data?
Kindly assist. Any help is much appreciated.
Regards,
RS

Hi,
As per my understanding of this requirement I would like to give you one suggestion.
You take Years as well in POV and whenever user select time Period 'Dec' then he should kindly select year as prior year(FY08).
i.e whenever user select any month apart from 'Dec' then he should select year FY09 through POV window while running the report.
This shall not be a good solution for this but shall help to show some expected result.. :)
Thanks...

  • SSRS Matrix report. Variance expression by Month. Need to compare month from prior year to current month of current year VS2010

Please help.  I have a matrix report.  In the report I have row group  PO Type.  One the Column groups I have a parent group by Fiscal Year, and then a child group by Month.  When I run the report, I get two years of data back broken
out by month.  Please see below.
Now here is where I am getting stuck.  I need to take the variance between the current month of the current year, from the same month of the prior year.  So I need to show the difference between Oct , 2014 from Oct, 2013. November, 2014 from November
    2013... etc. etc.
In the example below, how do I create a column or row showing the variance for Contracts for October 2014.  I need to take the contracts for October 2014 which is 3 and subtract that from October 2013 which is 8.  Any suggestions? How do I do that
for each month?  Then I need to do it for the quarter... then the year?  But I'll be happy if I can just get the month working first.
    Any help will be appreciated.
here is what my rdl file looks like.
Here is what my report looks like when I render it.

    Hi Adrian_s2012,
According to your description, you want to compare values for the month of current year with the month of prior year and get the variance. Right?
In Reporting Services, we don't have any function to get this "Year to Year" Growth. In this scenario, if you data source is a cube, we suggest you use Analysis Services to achieve your requirement. If this data source is just from database, it will be hardly
to calculate the variance because we need to compare the values within every two different column group and matrix generate adjacent columns one by one. Even we make it by using custom, every time executing the long code when generating result
in a cell will reduce a lot of performance, we really don't suggest to do that in SSRS. Here is a thread with much easier requirement, please take a reference of that:

  • Financial Reporting making of Dynamic Reports v 11.1.1.2

    Hi,
I have recently going through designing of a dynamic report in Financial Reporting which consists of financial representation as follows:
There are some data which is there in the Schedules of accounts.
Now the user wants to a make a drill down of all the account codes there in the schedule like
    schedule 13 other income.
All the account codes in Schedule should bw drill down which I am able to make.
Now for each account codes they want a sorting in descending order to find out which entity is contributing to how much revenue for the oraganistion or
similarly for the cost which are in other schedules like 14,15,16 tc.
After that they want a insertion of cell text function for each cell having a combination of account codes and entity which is having a adverse variance and analsis
    for the same.
If someone can throw a light on this about how to do this.

I think you have already posted this problem on another post, I said it is possible it could be a ports issue.
Have a look at the following http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/epm-component-communications-11121-354680.xls
Select FR studio as the client and it should give indication to the ports that need to be opened.

  • How to get the End date of the dynamic period in Financial Reports

    Dear All,
I have a issue with the Financial Report, I want to show the text under the Heading in the Balance Sheet like 31 DEC 2008 but in this date should be the end date of the dynamic period what user select in the POV.
Can any one have any idea about this.
    Regards
    rao.

    There are 2 options:
    1. Use the POVAlias text function:
    e.g. <<POVAlias ("Grid1", DimName)>>
(you could also use POVMember if the items you want is the member and not the alias).
    2. Have a hidden column on the report referencing the POV selection, then reference this in the header.

  • Financial Reporting Studio: Formula for percentages in Dynamic report

    Hi,
I have a formula problem in Financial Reporting Studio vers. 9.20.582. I created a dynamic report with four columns:
    1. Column: Entities
    Entity A, Entity B
    2. Column: Accounts
    Account A, Account B, Account C
    3. Column A: Accounts
    Data for a selected period
    4. Column B: Formula
Percentage Account B to Account A and Account C to Account A per each Entity
My question is: Could I create a formula in 4th column that shows a percentage of Account B in comparison to Account A for each Entity (everything in one cell)?
Because when I use for example the Formula Percentoftotal([a], [a,1(1)]) it shows for second entity B the wrong percentages.
    I hope this was understandable.
Thank you very much for your help.

    Hi
Good question? I think, there is a solution.
You can use the concept of multiple grid here.
Please keep the referred grid at one place and use another grid where you want the formulas.

  • Financial Reporting: Current Month vs Prior Month Variance for all Entities

    Silly/Easy Question:
How can I set up a grid in Hyperion Financial Reporting to show these columns for all entities- Current Month NIBT, Prior Month NIBT, Variance
So, the report would look like:
Florida Current Month, Florida Prior Month, Florida Variance...Georgia Current Month, Georgia Prior Month, Georgia Variance...Ohio Current Month, Ohio Prior Month, Ohio Variance
All I can get it to do at present is:
Florida Current Month, Georgia Current Month, Ohio Current Month, Florida Prior Month, Georgia Prior Month, Ohio Prior Month, etc.
    Thanks!
Note: we have many entities, so hard coding them in the report is out.

Update: been working with Oracle dev on this. Seems FRS cannot produce a report such as this:
    ----------Entity-----------------------------------------Entity-----------------------------------------Entity
    ----------Curr Mo - Prior Mo - Variance----------Curr Mo - Prior Mo - Variance----------Curr Mo - Prior Mo - Variance
    Account
    Account
    Account
    Account
    Account
The data can be extracted in other layouts, but this is one we'd like to utilize for Balance Sheet Variance analysis and Tax ETR reports.

  • Suppressing a prior Year Month Column on Cross Tab Report

I have two cross tab report in the footer that compares orders booked against what was shipped by month.  I need to suppress the columns (Month) for the prior year but keep the Totals.
I have a pdf of the report

Try to add a formula as a column in the crosstab instead of a field. Create a formula like this
    if year()=year(currentdate)-1 then
    year()
    else
    month()
This works only for two years of data, means you need to have the record selection formula like this
    year()>=year(currentdate)-1 and year()=year(currentdate)

  • Report with Current and Prior Year

I'm looking to create a report with fields Report Group, Year, and Actual Dollars.  Where the Year includes the current year and the prior year (NOT user input).  The format would be:
    Report Group | | Year | | Actual Dollars
    Product Revenue | | 2008 | | $100
    Product Revenue | | 2009 | | $200
    etc
Sounds simple enough but I'm having difficulty getting it to work since I need the Year field in the report (and I'm new to WebI).
    Thanks for your help,
    Dave

    Hi David,
I'd suggest you use a Query filter (or a report filter) to retrieve only rows that match this criteria on years. Since you need two values, I may have to use the filtering operator 'in list'
Difference between those two is query filter will only retrieve to values where year = 2008 or 2009 from the datasource (so if you want to change the year values, you will have to refresh document), while report filters are active on the query output (which means that no refresh from the DB is required if you need to change values), which might bring a better experience if you need interactivity in the report. Moreover, if interactivity is important and you are working with WebI XI 3.1 SP2, you can embed these report filters into Input Control, and command the filter from a graphical widget like check boxes, to let user control which years he wants to view/ compare in the table (or chart).
    Hope that helps,
    David.

  • Monthly Sales Report - Prior year comparison

I am created a monthly sales report for Sales in Crystal 2011. I have a parameter prompting for a date e.g. 02/01/2014 to 02/28/2014. I would like to have the sales amounts beside this column for 2013.
I found this formula but I can only get my results from 2014.Anyone have an idea how I can do this ?
    Thanks,

    \\Current Period
    If pwformatdate({OEAUDH.TRANSDATE})
    in date(year(currentdate)-(if month(currentdate)<10 then 1 else 0),10,1)
    to currentdate
    then Amount Forumula
    else 0.00
    \\Prior Year Period
    If pwformatdate({OEAUDH.TRANSDATE})
    in date(year(currentdate)-(if month(currentdate)<10 then 2 else 1),10,1)
    to dateadd('yyyy',-(if month(currentdate)<10 then 2 else 1),currentdate)
    then Amount Formula
    else 0.00
the parameter for my date is :
    pwformatdate({OEAUDH.TRANSDATE}) >= {?FromDate} AND
    pwformatdate({OEAUDH.TRANSDATE}) <= {?ToDate} AND
    ({ICITEM.ITEMNO}) >= ({?FromItem}) AND
    ({ICITEM.ITEMNO}) <= ({?ToItem}) and
    {OEAUDH.TRANSTYPE} <> 3

    Hi Debbie,
    1) Modify the Record Selection Formula to;
    {OEAUDH.TRANSDATE} IN [cdate(year({?FromDate})-1, Month({?FromDate}), day({?FromDate})) TO cdate(year({?ToDate})-1, Month({?ToDate}), day({?ToDate}))]
    OR
    {OEAUDH.TRANSDATE} IN [{?FromDate} TO {?ToDate}]
This should give you current and previous year's data for the period chosen by the user.
    2) Assuming you have a group on the Date field set to print for each year, simply create a running total from the Field Explorer.
    Name it Current Year.
Choose 'Sales Amount' as the field to Summarize.
Choose 'Sum' as the Summary Operation.
Under 'Evaluate', select 'use a formula' and use this code:
    date_field IN
    [cdate(year({?FromDate}), Month({?FromDate}), day({?FromDate})) TO cdate(year({?ToDate}), Month({?ToDate}), day({?ToDate}))]
Set it to Reset at each Group For Year
    3) Create another Running Total and call it 'Previous Year'.
Everything remains the same from Step 2 except the evaluate formula:
    date_field IN
    [cdate(year({?FromDate})-1, Month({?FromDate}), day({?FromDate})) TO cdate(year({?ToDate})-1, Month({?ToDate}), day({?ToDate}))]
    Hope this helps.

  • Require two different Financial Reports for the Same Financial Year - 2011

    Hi Experts,
The financial Year of the client is from jan-Dec.The client needs different financial reports (P&L , B/S), one from Jan-Aug and another from Sept-Dec for the FY 2011 since the management of the company has changed from Sept-2011 onwards.  So when tried to generate the financial reports from Sept-Dec , system shows the carry forward opening balances of income and expenses from Aug 2011 which they do not want.  Since we have not done any closing activities at the end of aug-2011 this figure is bound to come.  So in this scenario is there any possibilities to get a fresh financial reports from Sept to Dec 2011 where there should not be any opening balances of expenses and incomes for Sept 2011.
Since transferring of balances from income and expenses to retained earnings accounts has done yearly basis , how can we do this for the periods also or any other method to sort out this issue.
Hope my question is clear. if not pls revert with the queries.
    Thanks in Advance,

    Hi RP,
I have checked F.54 . Everything is ok in that report expect the Profit and Loss which are two differnt line item in that report and also calculated fields do not display in this report. But anyway this report meets most of the requirements.
    Thank you very much.

  • Financial Reports

    Hi.
I am new to Crystal Reports and hope someone out there with experience writing P&L reports can help with this:  We are planning to use Crystal Reports a our reporting engine for all of our financial reports.   I am trying to distinctly identify columns that sit side by side on the same report.  We have an 18-column P&L report in which there is a column for every calendar month which is to be populated by either the  "actual amount"  or the forecasted amount,  a total yr actual/forecast column, a total yr budget column a total last year column, plus 2 variance columns.  (The first column is for the line item description.)  I am unable to get just the "actuals" to work on this report:    When I try to define each column as equal to the amount associated with a specific "GL_Period",  where "2007-12", "2007-11" are stored values in the GL_Period field, the previous column's select statement is overwritten with the current column's select statement, resulting in duplicate data, not comparative data.  We have also thought of creating a view, but 72 columns (the actuals columns for current year and prior year are actually each made up of 2 columns, a debit amount and a credit amount)  doesn't sound like the best way to go about this).
What really bothers me is I want to write this report using crosstabs, but what I run into there is crosstabs wants to sort the line descriptions alphabeticallythere is a  unique line # associated with each line description, I would like to present the line descriptions on the report but sort by the line number.  (I understand that you can "specify" the line number, but our "detail" 12 period  P& L report has 649 lines!!Its sort of a detail P&L trial balance by account and department)
If anyone has an easy solution to either of these questions, I would love to hear it.

The reports in the financial tab are exactly what I feel I should be creating--they are done in crosstabs.  However, I need something to bridge me from the tutorial crosstab report (which is not anything like a financial report) to the financial report and I didn't get enough information from chapter 17 on crosstabs to get there.  Most general ledgers these days are designed along similar lines.  Isn't there someone else out there who is creating financial reports in Crystal where it is fairly common to have several columns of information all related to the same row (year over year, budget actual, month to month, current month to year to date?
In the example below, the amount or "XX" fields come from the same table or are calculated.  I am using a budget/actual format instead of  the 16-column discussed above as the problem is the same:  I am going to the same field in the general ledger table, the "period" field, and attempting to select it differently for two different columns.  With the "current month" vs year-to-date, I am trying to add up all of the months selected for the year to date, but only use one month for the current month.  So far I can do either, but not both?  Should I set this up as 2 separate subreports that would be presented side by side (vertically)?   Still won't answer the 12 period question, though.Example:
Cur Mo Act   Cur Mo Bud  Diff      YTD Act   YTD Bud   Diff
Revenues        XXXXX                 XXXXX    (XX)        XXXXX       XXXXX     XXX
COGS                XXX                    XXX      XX        XXXXX       XXXXX    XXXX
SGA                   XXX                   XXX        X         XXXXX      XXXXX      XXX
Net Income        XXXX                   XXX      XX         XXXXX      XXXXX        XX

  • Help creating a report with Financial Reporting Studio.

    Hi,
Im new at Financial Reporting Studio so my question might be something very easy, for beginners.
Im trying to create a report with two columns where in each column there is the year dimension. In the first column there is the current POV for year, but in the second column I would like to set the prevoius year of the POV automatically, without using a prompt. Is there any function or way to do it?
    Tanks foy yuour help!
    Edu

    Use the relative function.
The first column will be set to use the User POV.
For the second column... see the tab named "Functions". Select the function "RelativeMember". For the Member row - select User POV. For the offset enter -1... that will automatically select the prior year.

  • Financial Reporting Question - Formula row Issue

    Hello,
I have a financial reporting question and would like to have your inputs in order to achieve what I am trying to do.
I have a report with two grids – grid 1 & grid 2. And there is a formula row in grid 2 that is “change between the two years” worth of data. The year and period combination is in the page of the grids.
    Formula row (in grid 2) = ((Grid1.[b,6]) - [b,6]) / [b,6]
The issue is when I change the Page selection in Grid 1 the formula in grid 2 doesn’t get updated values unless and until I make a change in the grid 2 Page selection too. If I don’t make any changes in the page selection in grid 2 it keeps the data (looks like it is still considering the previously retrieved/calculated values) as it is without any update.
How can I make the formula row in grid 2 dynamic so that it gets updated no matter what combination of page selection I make in either grid 1 or grid 2 or even if I just change something in grid 1 and nothing in grid 2?
Please let me know your inputs. Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Krrish
Edited by: Krrish on Dec 3, 2012 7:45 AM

Page POV will be specific to the grid. Why can't you try to have the POV at the report level. In the HTML view of the report, the report will give you a Drop Down to select POV for all Grids.Select All Grids option and then set the POV which will be same for both the grids (which you want) and all your formulas will work.

I am trying to build a waterfall / step chart in Financial Reporting Studio to visualize large movements between prior year and current year profit by profit type. For it, i require a 'running total' of profit type movement. I burst the profit type dimension out on row 2 and i want to keep a running total formula calculation
    e.g.
    Last Year
    This Year
    Movement
    Total Profit
    [Profit Type].Level1 drilldown
    Total  Profit
I want to keep a running total of the movement in Row 2. How can i do this?

Insert Formula Row and give it formula.

  • Financial Reporting - Planning 11.1.2.1 Data Source

We are trying to do salary planning, specifically new hire planning at an employee level. Is it possible to have an account of data type text that users could input into a form, and then build reports in Financial Reporting Studio that would display that text? I know there is an ADM driver that allows Financial Reporting Studio Data Sources to use Planning as a data source, but I wanted to survey for input on if and how well that works.

That's exactly what I did last year. Business wanted to see the Job description (they entered it on the form) of the new hires in a report.
In Workspace, create a Planning datasource and when you create your report, map your report to the Planning datasource.
You just need to login to Workspace > Explore > Tools > Database Connection Manager > New > Select Planning as the Type.
