FInd Feature with scanned documents

Hope someone can help. I have some documents that I am trying to scan so I can find specific numbers on the documents. I am scanning using a CanoSacan Lide 100 and it is capable of scanning in OCR and PDF files. Once the documents are scanned and I open up Adobe reader, the find feature cannot find the numerical text I am trying to locate. I have read that the find feature does not work on scanned images so how can I get this to work? Funny thing, when I scanned my test document, saved it and used the find feature the first time it worked - now I am having no luck.
Also, I came across a document referring to Adobe Acrobat 5 and picture capture. Does Adode reader have this feature - can't seem to find it.
Thanks for any help you give me.

Hi
Finally figured it out...I am doing my happy dance as I type. The problem appears to be that the document must be scanned as a TEXT OCR file FIRST then converted to a PDF file. The scanner cannot do both actions at the same time. So I scanned the document as a TEXT OCR file type and then went to the scanner menu and selected save as PDF. Once that is done, I switched to Adobe Reader and opened my file. Word of caution, if the text is too crooked, the FIND feature will not work accurately.
Hope this helps someone else who is trying to use scanned items and the FIND feature.
Thanks for trying to help.

  • Problem with scanning document to searchable pdf in HP Envy 4500

I just bought HP Envy 4500 , overall good printer, but I can't find option for scanning to searchable pdf. I already updated my desktop software and printer's firmware, but still there is no option "scan to searchable pdf". Do i have to download some other software from HP?

    Hello katiemac,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
When you are scanning with the ENVY 4500, how are you doing performing the scan? For example, if you are not using the HP software or scanning from the front panel of the printer you may not be getting all the features.
What is the Operating System installed on the computer, Windows or Mac?

  • Howto find PDFs with scanned content - not OCR'rd

I have several thousand PDFs, where most of them are normal PDFs.
But some of them contain just scanned images of a document, and they are not OCR docs, or even of a quality where OCR is possible.
I want so find these documents, separate them for the real PDFs so to speak. Is this possible ? Are there any tag or information in the PDF that says "Image file and nothing else!" :)
    Thank you.
    Regards Alexander

I'll take the font check as an example.
    > In Acrobat 8 Pro go to advanced>preflight
    > Click on edit
    > click on the plus icon below the list on the left hand side to add a new custom profile
    > give it a name and fill out the details as you like and save it for now
    > the new profile is now available in the list on the left hand side of the preflight dialog box
    > here click on custom check, click on the plus icon (the middle one from the three available, the tooltip should say: 'create new check and include it in the current profile')
    > From the group box select font
    > in the property box select font type
    > The info box will show the 7 types of font available
    > Where it says 'begins with' select 'is contained in list'
    > click on Add to list and add all available font types to the list
    > click ok and then save
This profile will check if a listed font type is part of the document. if it is it will give an error (as indicated by a red cross in front of the custom check) Since it lists all available font types any document containing fonts will get an error when preflight is run on them.
test the profile on a scanned document (containing no fonts thus no error) and a normal pdf (Containing fonts thus getting an error).

  • Problems with scanning documents

I have a Photosmart 5520 and am using a Mac.  Initially I scan the document and touch to preview.  The doucment looks fine in this view.  However, when I scan the document to my computer I get only parts of the document.  The file comes across as three separate items.  I am not sure why this is happening.  Do I have a setting wrong on the scanner?  The document I am trying to scan has signatures on the page.  The scanner is only picking up the signatures.
I tried to scan another document and the only thing that came across where the lines spearating the different blocks within the document.
    Please help!  Thanks!

Try scanning FROM your Mac. Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom. Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.

  • Can someone help me with scanned items?

can someon assist me with scanned documents?

Select the folder whilst holding down the control key - there will be a pop-up menu with an item "Compress "Test Folder"" (the name of your folder). This will create a zip file which you can attach to an outgoing email, leaving the user on the other end, the recipient of your mail, a zipped, compressed file which he/she can unzip and have access to your scans.

  • Where is the 'Find' feature?  It worked

I can't seem to find anything with Spotlight using Snow Leopard.  Since 1984 I have used the 'Find' feature with my Mac's and now nothing shows up when I use Spotlight.  Even though I can physically search for the item and find it exactly the way I searched for it but it will not show up.  What must I do?  Things just don't work like they used to.

  • Can I scan documents with Image Capture?

I can no longer scan documents with my HP printer now that I have Maverick.  I can scan pics with Image Capture.  Is there any way to scan documents with image capture or with some other software?

Don't feel bad you are not alone.  I have a HP photosmart C4780.  Since upgrading to Mavericks it has been difficult to use the scan feature except via image scan.  I spent well over a month on the HP forums trying to discern whether or not new drivers were being developed and essentially got the run around.  Very crappy service from HP.  I'll not purchase one of their products again.  It appears that my all in one (which I brought through the Apple Store) is obsolete.  Anyone got any advice.  I'm contemplating seeing how many pieces it will shatter into upon being launched from my window.

  • No permission to open or delete scanned document with HP OJ 4630

I've scanned things before with no problem, but today, I have a scanned document that I cannot open or delete.  I don't know who has 'permission', as the Security won't say.  I can't change it.  Do I have to keep this on the desktop forever?

Could it be the scan is still in progress so the file is locked?

I am not able to understand your requirement correctly. Are you trying to attach the Document as a Attachment to the Interaction record (or) trying to attach it as a Archive Link Document??

You would need the full version of Adobe Acrobat for that. Adobe Acrobat Reader cannot accomplish this at all.

  • Find feature Highlight Color and End of document alert

I am using Version 2.0.7 and noticed two problems with the text find feature that I hope someone else knows about a configuration setting or work around that will resolve the problems.
    Thanks,
Problem 1. Found search characters are highlighted in gray. This color is difficult to spot if not looking straight at the screen or if only a few characters are in the search. Is there a preference setting that can change the color of found text searches?
Problem 2. When reaching the end of the email, there is no alert message to ask if the find function should search backwards. Clicking on the find Next button causes the process automatically loop back to the top and begin again.
Is this a bug or the way the function works?

Thank you for responding to my query.
I performed the following additional analysis and confirmed the behaviors still exists. Please let me know these conditions can be duplicated.
Problem 1 - highlight text color
    A. Checked preference settings as recommended and confirmed Highlight Color is "Gold".
    B. Opened mail message, selected Edit>Find and typed in the search characters.
    C. Clicked on the next button in the Find window.
    D. Results is that the found text highlight color was "Grey" in the email message. What would be expected is the found text color to be "Gold".
Problem 2 - End of message foud text alert.
I read the initial description and found that this problem was misstated. So I am offering the following script to illustrate it:
    A. In the find box select a word or combination of characters that does exist in the message.
    B. Click on find button.
    C. Listen for the audio alert advising there was no match.
    D. Change the Find Box selection to a word or group of characters that occcurs multiple times in the message.
    E. Click on the Next button in the Find text window.
    F. Note that the find process stops at each occurence of the search characters. (as stated in problem 1 the highlight color is "Grey')
    G. Keep on clicking the Find button. The result is that there is no end of message alert. Unlike the alert in step C, the find process automatically loops back to the first match and continues as long as the Next button is clicked. What would be expected is an end of search alert for both unfound and found conditions.
