Find my iPhone doesn't Work on my 3GS - It Works Perfectly on my iPad2

I just got phone support from apple France where I am located for now but they could not solve the problem. Here are the main Problem elements :
1/ Purchased iPhone 3GS in France for use worldwide with on my Chinese Telco SIM ( CHINA MOBILE ) as I live in China
2/ Purchased iPad2 Wifi in same Location.
3/ Installed Mobile Me account on iPhone and iPad
4/ Installed Find my iPhone on iPhone and iPad without problems and started the Find my Mobile Page on my PC.
5/ iPad2 immediately located by app but iPhone NOT located
6/ Tweaked all possible settings in my iPhone to ensure Mobile Me works to no avail ( 3G and Wifi enabled and working, Mobile Me installed, logged in and running )
7/ Thought about ONE possible cause for the app not working : CHINA MOBILE may not allow positioning and it does NOT support 3G functionality on iPhone.
8/ Removed Chinese SIM and placed French one : does NOT work either.
9/ iOS on both Devices most current : 4.3.5
So; I'm looking for a solution to this.
Thanks,
Dieter,

  • Find my iPhone doesn't work

After having my first iPhone stolen, I decided to try the app "Find my iphone" on my friend's loaner iPhone 3GS to see how and if it really works.
When I turned it on, I ensured that these were all setup:
    - Location Services: ON
    - Find My iPhone: ON
    - Cellular Data: ON (3 Bars Service at the time)
    - WiFi: ON and connected to the router
    - Internet utilizing apps: ON and in use
Doing all this, I went to iCloud.com and decided to locate the phone, and test out the Find my iPhone feature.  After 5 attempts to locate and 1 attempt to send the phone a message, it still came up as "No Location" and then "Offline".
I was browsing the internet on iPhone's Safari App, while these "finding attempts" were going on.  What a miserable fail.
Now I'm wondering if whoever stole my iPhone 4S is actually browsing the internet and having a wonderful time while I sit here miserable, thinking that this feature actually provided a service that I could use to find my phone.  Appears to me, through my experience, that this is a total fluke.
My sister's Droid actually has a phone finding app that works.  It was very disappointing to hear that her non-Apple product topped the abilities of my iPhone 4S.  As much as it hurts, I actually decided that I will switch to that new Samsung sIII in the following week.  I feel like I got jipped by my favorite company

I am having the same issue. I have 3 iPhones in the house and I just lost one.
I hit find my iPhone and it found two of them immediately.
The missing one did not show and said it was offline. I tried to play sounds and I hit lock.
When I finally found it was in the house, full battery, full signal etc and wifi signal. By this time I havd searched other proeprties and got frineds searching for it.
I then put it in the same room as the other one, only a few feet from the router, so absolutely no connection issues.
I hit find it - got offline!
I hit play sound - no sound
I hit lock - nothing happened!
It did play a sound about 25 minutes later!
So karup.meyyappan you are not alone!
I checked out the troubleshooting page and there was nothing there that I had not tried. I am not whingeing - just want to know what is wrong so that if I do have a serious incident, I am ready!

  • Find my iPhone doesn't work/weird iTunes issues

So I authorized my wife's computer to play a few old DRM'd songs from my iTunes account on her computer. I also transfered over a couple games I bought for my iPhone as part of that authorization. Now suddenly when she tries to make an iTunes purchase on her phone it pulls up my account. Also when she tries to use find my iPhone it says no phone is registered to that account, yet I know I turned it on on her phone. So my guess is it thinks her iPhone is under my itunes account...yet I can't find that anywhere on the phone or in iTunes (iTunes still shows her iTunes account).
    Any thoughts?

i have had the same problem as all of the above. I have tried restoring on two machines, used two different cables, re-installed itunes on both. I have deleted every apple program and then re-installed it. I spoke to apple support yesterday who got me to create a new user on windows and login to that and it still is not working. I am going to tray a face to face with apple store to see if they cannot sort it out.

  • "Find my iphone" doesn't work properly

I'm having some real issues trying to find my IPhone that is in a specific location. It seems like it is totally whacking out bouncing back and forth from one location to another location 3 miles away then back to the original location. This is fairly consistent, however there are times when the GPS says it's in between locations. Then it will show the IPhone in a lake 600 feet away from where it was originally tracked.
I can track the IPhone anywhere else and it is very accurate except this particular location. It seems like the phone is moving and yet I'm not sure. There is commerce and power lines nearby. When I go to the second location away from all the junk it is consistent with the second location 3 miles away. Then when I move back to the initial location it jumps back. BTW, I did turn the WI-FI on and everything is set up correctly. What is going on???

  • Find my iphone doesn't work anymore

iOS six appears to have broken the Find my iPhone functionality. All it says is 'appears offline' when I try to find my wife's phone. Is it because FMI depends on map functionality? Both of our phones are iPhone 4's.
Please Apple, FIX the crummy maps. It's still horrible. And fix the finding function too.
My iPhone has become an embarrasement now.
When I pull out my iPhone in public, I feel like I'm pulling out a 2000 Motorola Razr.

    Nick,
We're users here, just like you.  Appealing directly to Apple not only is a waste of time (Apple is NOT here), but it really makes you look like a fool.
In order for a phone to be locatable with "Find my Phone", it needs to be on, have location services enabled, have the Find my Phone feature enabled, signed into an iCloud account, have the SIM card installed, and be activated. If ANY of these are not enabled, the phone can't be located.

  • "Find my iPhone" doesn't find itself.

    Hello,
first of all I want to excuse for my English skills and any mistakes in this text - I'm from Germany and still learning
But let's get to my problem:
As the headline says, the "Find my iPhone"-App. doesn't find my devices. It doesn't even find itself:
As you can see in the top bar I'm connected to my Wi-Fi network and of course to the internet.
As an additional information I want to say that it worked in the past - but I cannot tell you when or why it stopped.
I hope you got some ideas how to fix it for me.
    Sincerely,
    Jörg

Of course I tried locating it per web.
But fortuitously I found the solution today after waking up: There was a little switch at Settings -> iCloud -> Find my iPhone turned off. Now that I turned it on it works !
But thanks for all your quick replys anyway !!
    Have a nice week.
    Jörg

  • "Find my iPhone" doesn't find my MBP

When I run "Find My iPhone", it finds my iPhone and my iPad, but not my MacBook Pro.  It lists it, but then says "No location available".  But it's powered up and online.  Is there something I need to do tomake the MBP findable?

You might want to ask in the Mac forums instead of the iPhone forums.
If the MBP is using a wired connection to the Internet, it will not be findable. It must be on WiFi.

  • I lost my phone while it was turned off, so find my iphone doesn't work. Is there anyway that Apple have a failsafe where they can turn the iPhone on so it shows up. The phone hasn't been turned on since I lost it and while I was on the way to the airport

It happened on the way to the airport. I went for my pocket when we were checking in and it wasn't there. I'd turned it off to save battery for the flight and when we got home I checked the house and it wasn't there. I think it may have fallen out in the taxi but we called them and the driver driver said he couldn't find anything. It hasn't been turned on since I last turned it on. But I was wondering can Apple remotely turn my phone on in any way possible?

There is no way of communicating with a phone which is switched off, therefore there is no way to tell it to turn itself on.

  • Ad hoc connection doesn't work with my 3gs but works with my touch

I setup an ad hoc connection on my laptop following a guide on the internet.
I did this on windows 7 32bit, it worked for my ipod touch but for some reason it won't work with my iphone 3gs (upgraded with the latest updates)
I connect to the wireless network, it shows its connected (with the wifi symbol at the top in the iphone's status bar) but as soon as i try using the internet via safari or any other app, it reverts back to using 3g or edge networks. I've checked and after reverting it still shows wifi is connected but the wifi symbol is no longer in the status bar and judging by the speed of the connection it really isn't connected to wifi.
Any ideas why this is happening?
It's just so odd that it works on my ipod touch but not on my iphone 3gs... Can't be a windows related problem.

Did you ever get this fixed? I'm having the same problem and can't figure out the solution.

  • Find my iPhone stopped working when I restored to factory settings

I have an iPhone4. I set up my find my iphone account. Everything was working perfectly.
Then, one day I restored to factory settings and then restored from a backup. I didn't sign out off my find my iphone account, because I thought that it wouldn't give me any trouble.
Now, when I log in to me.com, or use the iphone app, my iphone can't be found.
I followed all the instructions showed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2734
But still, my iPhone can't be found
I even tried creating an account with other email adress (hotmail) and still, when I log in to me.com, it says that my iphone doesn't have any available location.
So, I guess that it has to do with restoring without logging out, or deleting the device. But since I'm using the same mobile me account I used from the begining, and the device still has the same serial number, there should be a way to remove every device from my mobile me account and register it again as a new one, or something like that.
    Any advice?

Fixed: went to Settings/iCloud, used Delete Account, turned phone off and on, Settings/iCloud, re-entered account info. Phone now found by Find My iPhone.
Additional details: when it wasn't working it always said "Offline".
    Phone is currently running 5.1.1.

  • Find my iPhone abroad?

I recently moved abroad to South Korea (still have a US mailing address & apple ID account via military APO), had AT&T unlock my phone, and got KT Olleh service/new sim card.  my phone is up and working, syncs with iCloud, etc, but when I try to use the iCloud "Find my iPhone" service, it reports no location for either my macbook or my iPhone.  They're both connected via wifi at least, and wifi/carrier.  Help?

For legal reasons Find my iPhone doesn't work for locating in Korea.

  • Can't "Find My iPhone" in Korea

I am traveling in Korea from the US and have discovered that "Find My iPhone" doesn't seem to work for either my iPhone4 or iPad2. I am able to send the alert signal and message but the location is unavailable.
It appears that Apple provides MobileMe service to Korea so I do not understand why these devices cannot be located.

Winston, you seem knowledgable, so I am reposting this question I put out into the community...

            Jun 16, 2012 1:15 AM
I lost my iPhone in London in the wee hours of the morning.  I had to return to the US a few hours later.  I tried using my "Find My iPhone" app when I got home, but the response was that my phone was not connected to the internet.  I called Vodaphone and had the sim card and handset blocked.  I called T-Mobile in the US and did the same.
My battery was low when I last used my phone.  I tried calling it from my hotel, but it went straight to voicemail.  I requested a lock on my phone using the app, as well as sent a message offering a reward.  So my question is really two fold:  1.) If someone charges my phone, will the "Find My iPhone" app work, sending me a message with a location?  2.) will it send the message offering a reward and my contact info?  Worried that by blocking the handset, noone will be able to charge it and connect to the internet.  Did I screw myself?  Argh.

  • Use a family iCloud account for bookmarks and find my iPhone - iOS 7?

Prior to upgrading to ios 7, I was able to use one icloud account as a family icloud account where I would only enable the find my iphone and bookmarks in Safari so that all of our bookmarks would by synced across all of our devices and our home family imac computer. In addition, through one login, I could use find my iphone to locate any device in our family.
With ios7, it seems only the primary icloud account can enable bookmark syncing and find my iphone. Anyone know if there is a work around? I don't want to make the family icloud the main icloud account on each device since it will require more icloud storage space to backup everyone's devices and it will also interfere with photo stream and documents/data stored.
Any ideas or suggestions? It was so nice to be able to sync bookmarks across all devices like that.
    Thanks
    Marco

In order for users to disable find my iphone they would need to login into your icloud account or if they wipe youe phone clean it will still ask for your apple id and password in order to activate the phone if they restore it so either they will get stuck with a useless phone
