Find My iPhone Suggestion After Beeing Burgled

To who it may concern –
I would like to make a suggestion to the “find my iPhone/iPad/laptop app” – Please Please take some time to read my email and perhaps implement.
Situation
Last week my girlfriend and I were broken into by forcedentry – the robbing thieves forced their way through ourkitchen window and ransacked our house.  Mygirlfriend is due to give birth in threeweeks and what should be a really happy time for ushas turned into a very stressful time. We arrived home to find that right from our carbeing stolen, my15” MacBook Pro, her 13” MacBook  and 16gb WiFi iPad (including chargers) had all been taken.
Although the house was insured the content was not – so ouronly hope to try and find our hardware is through the “findmy iPhone” which was on all of our devices.  I have been monitoring this on myiPhone and on the web since last week (since the break-in) waiting for ours to come on line and for the passcode I sent downto lock the devices and hopefully get a location sothat I could let the police know (who have given us a crime referenceand taken fingerprints).
On Thursday evening my girlfriend got an email from the findmy iPhone and said that requested lock had been sentto her iPad – when she told me I logged on to see where the device was and waspresented with a message to say “location services disabled” I was so so guttedand really upset . Then an hour or so later she got a second email to say thata remote lock had been sent to her MacBook and again logged on and this timegot a message to say location could not be found.  Now I am assuming that whoever has outiPads/MacBook’s wiped the devices when the remote lock was sent. My 15” MacBookPro is still pending a remote lock and has been in this state for a week now soam keeping fingers crossed it comes online. I have given the serial numbers tothe police and just pray my devices are found.
Suggestion For find My iPhone
I have given this some though since our house was brokeninto and all our prized possessions were stolen, also when the find my iPhoneapp sent an email to say the remote lock had been sent.
I think that as good as this service (find my iphone) is, you are missing  something – given the situation we havefound ourselves, what would be reallyreally useful and so beneficial for anyone who has something stolen, would befor when the device comes online and you have selected a remote lock &notify me by email when the device is found for the location and IP address tobe included in the email.  This smallthing would make such a difference not only to those whose device it is but to the police who can usethis location to fine stolen apple products.
The time it takes for a remote lock to be sent and theperson who has the device to turn off the device is less than 10 seconds - nowif you implement the change I have suggested (when an email is sent to say thedevice is online, include the location and IP address of thedevice at that moment time to the email), because the time is so minimal couldbe the difference to someone (my girlfriend and me in this case) recoveringtheir beloved Apple hardware.
If this is a viable suggestion it could be an opt in optionwith the cloud settings for the device.
Now I wait to see if our £2,500 worth of Apple hardware canbe recovered by the Police and look forward to the birth of our first child.
Many Thanks

Yeah I thought I was being optimistic - I thought they could getaround any privacy issues by making it an opt in service. Just very frustratingknowing that they used it and it was locked but cannot get the location!
Perhaps I should have not sent a lock?
Never mind...

i lost my iphone and reset it all through find my iphone and after locating it and getting it back i can not turn the phone back on how can i fix this

Unless you had enabled Find My iPhone on it before it was lost then there isn't any way to locate it (it can only be turned on directly on the phone, it can't be done remotely). If you did enable it then you could try locating it either via http://icloud.com on a computer or Find My iPhone on another device - but that will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPhone disabled on it.
If you think that it was stolen then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.

  • Find my iPhone suggestion and issue with find my mac.

i dont know if this has ever been brought up but this is a very serious and good point. Find my iphone which is under icloud can be toggled on and off as easy as a tap. So what if i lost my phone and didn't have passcode lock on. if someone wanted to steal it they could go to icloud and turn off find my iphone then ill never find it again. Doesn't anyone else think to turn it on/off it should be password or pin protected. I mean if i have to turn off passcode lock with a pin it should be the same for my find my iphone and the same with my computer.
which leads me to my issue with my mac. Every time i go into my settings i find that find my mac is some how unchecked even after i already checked it. does anyone else have this issue? whats the point of the feature if it doesn't even stay on?

Even if it was, nothing would prevent the thief from forcing the phone into recovery mode and restoring it as a new device, which erases that phone and all settings, including iCloud and Find My iPhone.
Don't know why your Mac keeps unchecking this setting though...

  • Does find my iphone work after restore

my iphone was stolen, after one day i could see it in icloud with diffrent name.
after a few days it was gone.
as i understand to change the i phones name you have to restore it.
so can it be that it was restored and i can still use find my iphone to trace it?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
The theft changed the Apple ID and you can't track the iPhone anymore. Report it to the police

  • I lost my iphone and cannot figure out how to open the "find my iphone app after I downloaded it in itunes

I lost my iphone and cannot figure out how to open the app "find my iphone" in itunes after I have downloaded it. Can anybody help?

Or did you mean you had downloaded it to your iPhone, and you were looking for the app in iTunes to activate it? If so, that is not where you would do it. You need to sign on to your iCloud account on your computer - that's where it is housed....
    Sorry if I misunderstood!

  • Can I keep track of the location of my lost iPhone using the lost mode in Find My iPhone even after the sim is removed?

My iPhone 5 is stolen, but luckily I had Find My iPhone enabled on iOS 7. The device is currently online(cellular is on) but location services are off. Is there any way to track its location.
Furthermore, if I turn on the lost mode and the thief turns off cellular data, would I be able to keep track its location?

Unless you enabled Find My iPad on it before it was stolen then there isn't any way to locate it. If it was never registered to your account then it won't appear on your support profile : https://supportprofile.apple.com/
The only other ways to find it that I know of (apart from on the actual device) are via the packaging, the backup on a computer's iTunes : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4061

  • How would i use 'find my iphone' to locate my husband's ipad?

My husband and i would like to be able to find each other's device, (iphone 4 and ipad) by using 'find my iphone'. We frequently lose each other.
How would we set that up?
    Thanks!

On both devices, go to Settings>iCloud, sign in with your Apple ID to create your account (if you haven't already done so), then turn on Find My iPhone.  After doing so, you can track devices by signing in with the iCloud ID that the device you are trying to track is using, as explained here: http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mmfc0f2442.  You can do this from a computer by going to icloud.com, or from your iOS device by downloading the free Find My iPhone app from the App store.

  • HT4623 just updated my iOS and now it won't let me past the screen on find my IPhone

I can't get past the FIND MY IPHONE Screen after IOS update...it's like the continue button and or arrow aren't highlighted and don't allow me to select them so I can't move on.

I do go thru safari and I get thru the log in into my account but when it comes to showing your statement it blocks it. I had no problems until I download the latest version.

  • Sold iPad is still connected to Photo Stream & Find My iPhone

I turned off iMessage and erased all content & settings before selling my iPad 2 last week. Last night I noticed some photos I didn't recognize in my iPhoto & iPhone photo stream. I also noticed that an iPad 2 was still showing up under a new name in icloud.com >> Find My iPhone. After calling the new owner and describing the photos in my photo stream, we established that the iPad was, in fact, still sharing content with my icloud account. He's willing to work with me to resolve the problem.
How do I disassociate the device from my icloud account?

I believe that should have done it, but it obviously hasn't.
Turning off iMessage wouldn't disable your iCloud account by itself (they are different accounts), it's the iCloud account that syncs photostream pictures.

  • Find my iPhone. Is this possible?

Is it that possible that, while locating an iPhone, Find my iPhone would show the location far away from the current location, if the phone wasn't in that location at all?
I tried logging in to Find my iPhone and after the login finished, it showed the location further than 50 miles away and still says "locating". After located it showed the actual current location. Is it possible that the phone didn't get to that location but it showed the incorrect location while locating for the new one?
Does apple keep logging the locations the phone send to it by any app beside Find my iPhone to make the phone faster to be located?

I think you mean this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3463431?start=15&tstart=0
It's a long one and I'm still reading.
Seems like many people have the same problem, except that mine just shows the incorrect location for a very short time.
    Thank you very much

  • Stolen Macbook Pro,Find My iPhone App, Erased it, What else?

Hi, my Macbook Pro was stolen. When I found it, I called the police, and a policeman asked some questions. I think I won't get my mac back but I still take some actions.
I use Find my iPhones app on my mac and received an email of notification from this application. It showed the detailed address. Then I called the police station. They checked the address and told me that the address is an apartment building, so they can't do anything for it.
I didn't have the orginal box of my computer so I tried to find the serial number under my Apple id account. But under My Products, my Mac was no longer there, I thought the mac should have been registered by the theif. What else I can do with the serail number? The policeman told me if I can give him the serial number, he can enter it in the system to track it, is it true? Will it work?
I called the Apple, they said the other way that I can get my serial number was to visit the store where I purchased the mac. Is it possible? I purchased the Mac a few years ago.
Because I use the Find my iPhone app, the thief has noticed it and the thief might change the setting so I found I can no longer track the location but I can see it is online. Finally, I decided to use this app to erase my mac (but it's no longer belong to me) Is it safe to erase my mac by using Find My iPhone?
After all these steps, what else I can do?
Will the theif also use Apple Support Communities?
    Additional question:
I know it might cost more than the actual value of the mac to find back the Mac or other similar stolen items. Most of people just accept it and it can be difficult for police to find it, either. However, if we all accept it and didn't take steps to deal with it, will it become worse? Because the thieves won't be punished and we paid more to purchase new products. Maybe it only happened to persons that you don't know, it doesn't happen to you. You won't take it seriously. Then what if it happens to you, will you just do nothing to contribute to a high crime rate and disrupt social stability?

    mnkun3 wrote:
So just accept it? Are there any successful examples that people get back their stolen mac/iphone/ipad ?
Plenty.  I read about them all the time in my local newspaper.
Like Kappy told you previously, move on and/or buy another.
    The good news:
If you have homeowners or rental coverage check w/them.  Most policies cover stolen property.  If your MBP was stolen from your car, make a claim w/your auto carrier.
If you purchased your computer w/a credit card, check w/them also.  You just may be covered for stolen items.

  • New iPad Air 2 with a persisting blank screen. Support site suggests a restore after turning off 'Find my iPhone' on the device. How can I do this with a blank screen?

New iPad Air 2 (December 2014) with a persisting blank screen. Support site suggests a restore after turning off 'Find my iPhone' on the device. How can I do this with a blank screen?

    Thanks JimHdk,
After a little more searching across various online resources I was able to cure it by holding down the home button and the on/off button for 10 seconds to restart it and it all came back with a clear screen.

  • After updating my iPhone 4 to IOS 7, I get the message to "Turn off Find My iPhone" but I can't get to that option on my phone.  Any suggestions

I updated my wife's iPhone 4 to IOS 7.  While trying to setup the new installation, I get the message " Find My iPhone must be turned off before Phone can be restored.  Go to iCloud Setting on your iPhone and turn off Find My iPhone before restoring your iPhone".   The problem is that that option is not available on the phone at this stage of the set up.
    Any suggestions?

I tried that but I still got the message "Unable to verify account information."  I saved it anyway and when I go to the Exchange email account it says "Cannot Get Mail" "The connection to the server failed."  We are running Microsoft Exchange 2010 and I was always able to sync my calendar and email before I upgraded to IOS 6.
