Find my iPhone suggestion and issue with find my mac.

i dont know if this has ever been brought up but this is a very serious and good point. Find my iphone which is under icloud can be toggled on and off as easy as a tap. So what if i lost my phone and didn't have passcode lock on. if someone wanted to steal it they could go to icloud and turn off find my iphone then ill never find it again. Doesn't anyone else think to turn it on/off it should be password or pin protected. I mean if i have to turn off passcode lock with a pin it should be the same for my find my iphone and the same with my computer.
which leads me to my issue with my mac. Every time i go into my settings i find that find my mac is some how unchecked even after i already checked it. does anyone else have this issue? whats the point of the feature if it doesn't even stay on?

Even if it was, nothing would prevent the thief from forcing the phone into recovery mode and restoring it as a new device, which erases that phone and all settings, including iCloud and Find My iPhone.
Don't know why your Mac keeps unchecking this setting though...

  • Mac Locked through the Find my iPhone app having issues with unlock

I was testing out the Find my iPhone app and locked my 2013 MacBook Air running OSX Yosemite thinking that it would just lock the computer and show a pretty message or something. Unfortunately that's not quite what happened.
When I turn on the MacBook and hold down the option key it asks for the 4-digit pin I made when I locked it. (I know what the pin is). If I don't hold down the option key then it just skips to the message in the 3rd image.
Once the pin is entered it asks to select which partition to boot up. I select Macintosh HD. (My Windows 7 partition seems to be working fine.)
Then the Apple logo appears with a gray background (something I would expect from Mavericks) and this message pops up momentarily before the MacBook shuts down. It doesn't show up long enough for me to select any of the options.
Has as anyone else had this problem and is there a solution available?

the lock screen you are seeing is not the Find my phone remote lock screen but the firmware password screen. Preventing unauthorised access to Start up options. Restart normally and see what happens.
If you get the same message, boot with the options key again and choose Recovery 10.9. Once booted open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions and Disk.
    Restart.
Failing this you could be looking at booting again and reinstalling OS X either from a Time Machine backup or a fresh install.

Apple and/or iTunes support can't locate it for you, only you can potentially locate it via http://icloud.com on a computer or Find My iPhone / Find My iPad on another device - but that will only work if it's connected to a network and the device hasn't already been wiped and/or Find My iPhone disabled on it.
If it was stolen then you should report it to the police. You should also change your iTunes account password, your email account passwords, and any passwords that you'd stored on websites/emails/notes etc.

  • I just recorded a video on my iPhone 4 and can't find it

I just recorded a video on my iPhone 4 and can't find it. I recorded a 45 minute video and I checked it as I was recording. As soon as I was done, I checked to view it and no video was available. This was very tough because I was recording a big day in my little girls 8 heard ole life. Please help.

I am technologically challenged, but trying...so with that said.
I have a little different issue where I can see the video on the iphone (4S), but can not see it when go to my iphone connected to my PC?  It did allow me to email about 2 minutes of the video, which I really was not expecting it to do anything because the file size is very large (45min video).  So it seems the file is there on the phone but I can not see it through the PC drive?  Any suggestions?  I need to burn the presentation to a DVD or save to external hard drive.   One background note:  I was not watching the phone the whole time, but I believe it stopped recording once it ran out of memory.  So I am wondering if the video session never "closed"?

  • Issues with Finder - reinstalling Leopard???

    Hi,
I'm having some issues with Finder. Sometimes, when I restart the computer, it takes a long time to start Finder. Besides that, every time I want to eject my Time Machine external HD, I need to relaunch Finder. If I don't relaunch it, it never ejects the TM HD.
Would you recommend reinstalling Leopard, but using the feature to erase everything? When I installed it, I didn't use that feature because I wanted my files/previous programs the way they were before. With a new installation (erasing everything), I'd have to install and configure so many things again and I didn't want that. But now, because of the issues with Finder, I'm thinking about reinstalling Leopard.
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers,
    Mike

Before you do anything drastic, repost your question in the Finder/Dock forum.
No, I am not being sarcastic - but you might find that it's a common problem and others over in that forum have a solution or else it might simply be an "issue" that a reinstall will not fix.
It would be annoying if you reinstalled Leopard and it didn't install properly.
Until you are sure about the Finder "issue" leave it alone for now.

    And good luck.

I haven't used Time Machine, but I wonder if you can temporarily turn it off so you can dismount your external hard drive. Note while your external hard drive that Time Machine is dependent on is not connected, anything you do will not appear on Time Machine, since it is reliant on that external hard drive for source information. The only question I would have, is if you remounted the hard drive is whether Time Machine would be able to recognize what it has backed up to it already?
Reinstalling Leopard shouldn't be necessary. I would also try to see if you are running low on disk space. Tell us how much space you have free on both internal and external drive out of how much space total?

  • I have the find my iphone app and I lost my phone and want to use it but how?

I have the find my iphone app and currently lost my phone and I am at work and would like to use the app now, but how?

I think I still have like 4.2.2 features, but I know I downloaded it to my phone I'm at work but now I don't know how to make the app work from my work computer. Is the iCloud account like the apple or iTunes account?
iCloud is Apple's new online service, replacing mobileme - http://www.apple.com/icloud/.  The web account page is https://www.icloud.com/
Find my iPhone is a feature of iCloud - http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/find-my.html
And again, the downloadable app has nothing to do with making your iPhone discoverable by find my iphone.  The app is used by a device to find another device which has had the trackable feature enabled in its iCloud account settings.  Simply having the app on a device does NOT make that device trackable.  In order to be able to find a device, you need to have an iCloud account on that device, and you need to enable the find-my-iPhone setting under that account - nothing to do with the app at all.

    so frustrated.

Well its defintiely nothing that Apple can activate to fix this. They would be able to troubleshoot with you though. This may be able to be resolved if its something software related.

  • TS3376 how can i tell if someone is logging into my find my iphone account and how can i find out who it is?

how can i tell if someone is logging into my find my iphone account and how can i find out who it is? Can I add a second layer of password security for Find My iphone?

Nobody can log in to your iCloud account unless you gave them your password. There is no other way.
If you shared your password with someone (not a good idea) and no longer want them to have access to your account, change the password and don't share it again.

i had the "find my iphone" app and deleted it and then my ipod was stolen. can my ipod still be located ?

Apple will not track it for you unless with Find my iPod. Again, whether you have the app or not doesn't matter, I believe you still had the service enabled. It doesn't hurt to try. http://icloud.com, click Find my iPhone after you sign in.

  • I cant find my iphone 4s and the power is off, can it be located still

i lost or was stolen (my iphone 4s) and I have gone to the find my iphone app, and it says its not set up.   I have used it before and it worked.  I am sure the phone battery is dead by now.  Is there any way my phone carrier can find it somehow?  I was hoping someone would turn it on so It can be located with the app.
Im not the most savy tech person so excuse me if this is something obvious just not to me

    thank you for response.
Been reading through the site searching for anything to give me hope that someone... may power it on and then the app locate the phone for me.
From posts, that is most likely not going to happen...
I dont have insurance so this is a no win situation, but should I stil call provider and report it missing? or should I just hope someone is careless enough to try to use it so it will eventually be able to be tracked?
Again sorry for the stupid questions, this was my first iphone and I am way behind on the technology

  • My sons iPod touch has disappeared from my find my iPhone account and it can't be located in the house does this mean someone has stolen the iPod and reset it?

HI my sons iPod touch has disappeared from my find my iPhone account and it can't be located in the house is it possible someone has stolen the ipod and reset it? Please help a confused mum...

Could be. The battery could also have died or it is no longer connected to the internet

No app on the iPod is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected, on a computer browser go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up or continue to show off-line.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    iCloud: Erase your device
    iCloud: Use Lost Mode
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.
    - Apple will do nothing without a court order

  • Find my iPhone won't work with locked iPhone or iPad screen?

    Okay,
I was showing a friend how cool "find my iphone" is and used the "Play Sound or Send Message" button to show her how it could find my iPad.  A few seconds later the iPad starts beeping in my backpack.  I open it up expecting to see a message "Oops, left my iPad at coffee shop, please call me at ______", but instead saw "Enter Passcode" box, which appears to cover the message I sent.
If I "cancel" the "enter passcode" box, I can see the message, but what with all the loud radar sounds I don't know that someone picking it up for the first time would think to do that.  Is this the way it is supposed to work?  What is the point in being able to send a message to a stranger who won't be able to read it because s/he doesn't know my passcode, and probably won't think to "cancel" the passcode box so s/he can see the hidden message behind it?

I have checked all of these settings and they are turned on.  I think it must have something to do with iCloud...maybe there is a conflict in the account settings?

  • I have lost my Iphone and want to know how to activate "find my iPhone"?  App on my Air book mac

I want to know how to activate the app "find my iPhone" in this air book mac.  I have to app down loaded on this machine as well as my iPhone and havent got a clue how to get it activated through "I Tunes"....Can I get some advice?

First of all, your lost iPhone should had been enabled the 'Find My iPhone' before you lost it.  If disabled, then there is nothing you can do to find the lost iPhone.
If your iPhone was enabled in 'Find My iPhone', then click the app 'Find My iPhone' in your airbook mac.  It would prompt yuo for an Apple ID and its password.  Key-in the Apple ID and password of your lost iPhone.  Thereafter, use the Map to locate your iPhone's whereabouts.  This function only works when your lost iPhone has been turned on and with either WIFI connection or 3G internet connection.  Otherwise, this said app does not work.
