Finder Right Click Woes - Intel iMAC 20" Core 2 Duo (NEW)

Okay, I was hoping someone can check this for me on their new iMAC. I have found an issue where if I right click (or control click) three or more times in a row on the desktop or any other finder window, finder performs a relaunch. I am hoping that its just a bug with the new iMAC. But, either way its rather annoying.

Thanks if anyone can assist. I have been on the phone with MAC support now for a little more than three hours. Next step from them is reload the OS. But, this is a factory installation and I havent had time to do much but copy stuff from my other MACs.

After performing the re-installation (per technical supports suggestion) every thing worked fine. Then looking at your post I really wanted to know what started this whole mess in the first place. So, I started StuffIt Expander and after the initialization of the application the issue came up again.
Thank you so much for pointing me in the right direction. You were correct. I had installed StuffIt Expander Deluxe 11.02 (which is the latest version). This application installs a contextual menu in the /Library/Contextual Menu folder. The file is called StuffitCM.plugin. By removing this file the issue is now gone.
Stuffit still works now even with this file removed. So, all is good.

That service is hard-coded to Mail and can't be changed through any user setting. Try this workaround:

If Library in Automator does not list Microsoft Outlook, the "Create New Outlook Mail Message" action should be listed in the second pane (along with all the other Microsoft application actions).

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

IMac 17" Core Duo acting slower than it should-

My father has a first generation iMac 17" Core Duo. It should be really fast. (At least compared to my PMG4 MDD..) I think it is rather fast, but sometimes it is really slow. Spinning ball while changing application, spinning ball while opening applications, spinning ball while performing operations in applications.. However, when I checked last night, the CPU was typically used about 20-30%. About 5 MiB free RAM, and about 100 MiB inactive.
I get the impression that the computer is way faster before the Office suite is launched. Dad is always running Entourage, and often both Word and Excel as well.
Is it likely that this is the explaination? That the computer is slower when an Office app is running? MS states that it "should run well under Rosetta", but on the other hand, they're known for their BS.

It has. Though I find it a little bit peculiar that it can have as much as 100+ MiB inactive RAM and still be slow.. I thought inactive RAM was RAM that could be re-used, like free?

Hi there! I have a 2006 Imac 17" core duo and the screen broke by accident. The repair costs are extremely high and thus I was thinking about buying an external display and hooking it up to the imac. Firstly, would such a thing be possible, and if indeed possible how would one go about setting it up?

I can't open a new tab unless I right click a link and hit "open in new tab."
I click ctrl+t, click the new tab button, right click the tab bar and hit "new tab", and even click "File" and hit "New Tab", but it still won't open a tab!
This has been going on for a week!
I know it may not seem like too much of a problem since I can still open a tab, but it's terribly inconvenient that I can only open one by clicking a link.

The Ask Toolbar is causing that in the Firefox 3.6.13+ versions. Uninstall that extension.
There are a couple of places to check for the Ask toolbar:

When I right click a link or pull down the new menu in Firfox 4 it twitches and disappears. What's the fix for this?

I downloaded and installed the new Firefox4 yesterday and when I right click links to open them in a new tab or copy something it will blink on and off (twitch) then disappear. I can still click where I saw the option and it'll work, but it's really annoying.
The pull down Firefox tab where the save as buttons, new tab, bookmarks and all that jazz does the same thing.
It's REALLY frustrating.

I had this problem and resolved it by going to
Options> Advanced Tab> General (on the same page) and unticking "use auto scrolling".
You can leave smooth scrolling on however :)

My imac 17" core duo 1.8ghz A1173 freezes after about 1 minute of running. I re-start the imac about a half a dozen times and it stays running and will re-start from the sleep mode and will continue to operate properly until I put it in sleep mode or it goes to sleep mode. If I turn it off, I must go through the same hassle. Advise/suggestions. Thanks.

Epson Perfection Scanner Woes/Intel iMac

Epson Perfection Scanner 3170, previously ran smoothly on old G3 and OS 9.2.2
I am trying to get my scanner to work with my new iMac - trying for the first time since purchasing the machine to use this scanner, which I was told by Apple was compatible. I did get it to run one scan this evening even though it kept quitting out; then it wouldn't open and told me to check the connections (fine). I am trying to "Scan to Application" - Photoshop for scanning photos into the computer, on a deadline, naturally!
Before anyone suggests that I do a search, I found this thread and followed instructions:

Uninstalled the Epson apps and prefs as per Joe Gramm's directions. I reinstalled from the Epson software CD, downloaded the 11928 driver from Epson (the latest one) and got the ESP3 patch as well (see thread, which I hope all installed where they were supposed to go).
When I press the button on the scanner that opens the Epson Smart Panel, nothing - no icons - are there for me to select. If I click on Epson Scan app. the scanner will preview and scan whatever is in on the glass but it does not "know" what to do with it once it's done. The JPEG doesn't appear anywhere. I keep waiting for the next window to open up so that I can select the tool box icon to select Photoshop as my application, but it doesn't open and I don't know what to do next. I always had an item in the Apple menu on my old mac that selected the scanner and would like one in the dock - shouldn't something be there?
I will be emailing Epson as soon as I am done here and would appreciate any help as soon as humanly possible as I have to make a reel for myself using portfolio pictures for an interview this weekend! GAH!

Also if your running Adobe CS3 on an Intel Mac then go to this site, if the TWAIN driver isn't working. I did Solution 2: and it worked for me. The latest epson driver is still PowerPC.

Imac 20'' Core Duo memory specs

Hey,
im thinking to expand my imac's total 1gb ram
and im really confused from what i've read about the memory amount a ram module
should have.(some say it can be expanded to 4gb(3gb used))
I know for a fact that it can be expanded to a sum of 2gb (2x1gb).
Is there a way to find out?
I bought my imac on 06/2006 but i cant be sure which imac is(early or mid 2006) as im not living in the states or in any other technologically "advanced" country.Forgot to mention that the model is imac 20'' intel core duo

Safari 6.0 crash when right clicking a link and choosing open in new tab

Hi all, just a general question. I admit i did not search the forums yet. Hopefully this little annoyance can be resolved.
When using safari on say CNN.COM i'll right click on a link and choose Open in new tab. safari randomly disappears. no crash warnings, just gone. I can open it right up and be fine sometimes all day. This has happened to me about 5x since ML was released (i wiped my laptop the day it came out)
This has happened on a couple of different website at different times of the day. only safari was running. No other apple apps have this issue.

i have only apple software on this machine
i do have adobe flash installed v11.3 updated today.
i do have lastpass enabled
i do have ad-block disabled
While i'm waiting for help from you guys i'll disable all addon's and try to remove adobe to see if that is the issue. Is there any other steps i can try like delete .plist file or maybe even trying a new user profile. I am a IT professional and am not afraid to get my hands dirty trying to get this resovlved.

Unable to right click a link and open in a New Window

I've been having problems with FF when I right click a link on any site, and I want to "Open Link in New Window", but it never happens. Then I tried to right click the same link and I "Open Link in New Tab", which works. What happened? Did the programmers/developers change something? I even tried it in "Safe Mode" with the same problem. Can anyone suggest anything? I almost tried everything imaginable, even running Windows 7 Ult SP1 in Safe Mode as well, with no help.

Note that such issues are likely caused by one of the extensions that isn't working properly.
So if it happens again then start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

WIth upgrade I no longer can right click on a bookmark to open in new tab, only the "open" choice if available to me. How to correct please ?

ICloud on older Mac running 10.6.8 - with Intel 2 GHz Core Duo

Do I understand correctly that I can't upgrade to iCloud from Mobile Me, with an older Mac running 10.6.8 (with 2 GHz Intel Core Duo)?

This will be the situation with Snow Leopard if you migrate your MobileMe account:
Your email, calendars, contacts and bookmarks, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud.
Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
You will be able to access email, calendar and contacts on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).
